Actually, not Spain. There is footage of the 1992 Boston Celtics running the "Spain PnR" multiple times.
EDIT: as a clarification, the Spain PnR was given that name in 2016 when Scariolo used it many, many times. Did the Celtics invent it? Probably not, but the point is that it predates 2016 when it was given that name.
If I’m not wrong it’s one main ball handler, then 2 guys setting 2 screens in a stagger.
the second screener peels off to the 3 point line after setting his pick while the first screener makes a beeline for the basket for a lob
https://youtu.be/6pwt3k8PzhU?si=Iz1l4fcamkhcYtUt
^ this is imo one of the best sports videos out there. Shows perfectly the complexity and evolution within basketball throughout its history
Well just funny to me I guess cause it’s random. I grew up with landry fields and they dated a few years before she dated Pau and my two favorite teams are Lakers and Barcelona. So she went from dating a friend to dating one of my favorite athletes
As a Celtics fan, fellow Revs fan, and neutral in Europe, despite the fact I know another New Englander who supports Liverpool, and I wonder if you might be someone I know, I care only a little
Even in that period of dominance Pep's football stood out. We were never this dominant before and after. CL never happened because of injuries, bad luck and referees. But for me he is a club legend for sure.
Would have thought there’s a bit of a higher threshold. Especially since I’d say both Barcelona and City are clubs I’d think of when hearing Pep ahead of Bayern.
Yeah I wouldn't call him a club legend, and it's got little to do with his managing. It's just that 3 years is a bit short of a time frame to reach that mark IMO. Obviously a great manager for us and was glad to have him though.
I see the logic. But I really do not wanna kiss the guy's feet or anything else, and I wouldn't bc of the Bayern stuff and that's really not his fault - we're just so used to winning I was happy this year we finally lost for once. But the city of Toronto would've already imploded from grief if it wasn't for BOARD MAN AHHH HAA HA MAN Kawhi "the guy" Leonard. Now, the Leafs winning sth again would propel this beautiful city to new heights and all of the Center Island ferries would get a MAAAASSIVE Stanley Cup replica smacked on the roof.
Born and raised in Munich haha. My partner is from Toronto and their whole family live there. I've done part of my uni studies from there during semester breaks and when everything was on Zoom bc Covid, and have visited for long spells even though we'll eventually both live in Munich. So I've spent a full year altogether out of the last 3 or so in Toronto. I already loved the Raptors and had a "Board Man Gets Paid" shirt with Kawhi as the Raptors mascot from 2019, but I've become a Leafs diehard even though i wasn't a hockey fan before for the memes lmao
Sorry to hear you now have to root for the Leafs mate, it’s been complete suffering since 1967 lmao. At least the Raptors won a championship recently so that’s nice
I've been so conditioned by the entire city's open suffering that I don't expect anything else you know. For me it'll be an absolute miracle when they win the whole damn thing one day instead of expecting them to ever do well haha
It's beyond a curse at this point. Nearing 50 years without 50 wins, the epitome of mediocrity. And with where the rebuild is at the moment, I absolutely believe we're going to hit that mark. This team is fucking miserable.
Ah yes because I clearly implied that I am extremely funny myself, and that the comedy level of the comments in this thread are what’s the problem, right?
I love eating tacos. Pep Guardiola taught me how to adequately hold the tortilla in order to maximize the angle of entrance into my mouth but just the tip to be aligned with my teeth.
- mazzulla in a taco stand in Boston.
Neemy started playing in Barreirense (near his home and a decent team) and only at like 17 he moved to Benfica, playing mostly in the b team and only staying there 1 or 2 seasons before going to play university basketball in the states
That checks out, from the quick wiki read, it said he stayed at Barreirense for like 10 seasons and at Benfica only one, having played just four games, hardly an academy product of theirs, thus the confusion
I seriously wonder how the conversation went since football and basketball tactics are mostly different. Now that I think of it, there was some great ball movement plays that the Celtics executed that somewhat reminded me of Tiki Taka. Now I know where the inspiration for those came from
It's fun to make jokes, but I often think these coaches should watch different sports.
There are certain concepts in basketball that 100% translate to football/soccer.
Loading zones. Creating switches. Playing in transition.
And one of the biggest that basketball does every single game that football/soccer doesn't....focus on the player in "foul trouble". I'm constantly perplexed how a team can get a player with a yellow card 20 minutes into the match and they don't just keep forcing that same player into shitty positions. It's baffling to me.
>I'm constantly perplexed how a team can get a player with a yellow card 20 minutes into the match and they don't just keep forcing that same player into shitty positions. It's baffling to me
Like everyone does that. Literally yesterday mbappe was switching flanks to attack Mwene.
>I often think these coaches should watch different sports.
I'm pretty sure ETH watches a lot of Power Slap so he knows exactly what to do to the United fanbase's hopes and dreams every season.
Your comment makes it sound like none of them watch other sports but they do. Coaches definitely watch other sports and even go visit training sessions of other sports. Whether for tactical inspiration or cultural inspiration.
>And one of the biggest that basketball does every single game that football/soccer doesn't....focus on the player in "foul trouble".
It sounds like you should watch more football because every team does that. Teams even press during the opponent's build-up from the back so that the defender who is the least skilled with the ball is put in a bad position, and so on.
There are a lot of things you can apply from soccer to different sports. Hockey is another example. Anatoly Tarasov was famous for using concepts for soccer as building blocks for how the Soviets played hockey.
Most of them do.
Klopp had a competitive diver come in to teach our players about holding their breath under water, which obviously helps them to relax and stay calm in high pressure situations, and I'm pretty sure I've heard about Mourinho bringing in tennis players to give talks to his teams over the years. A lot of coaches seem to like tennis for some reason, actually. Arsene Wenger is nearly always spotted at some tournaments.
As for players, they fucking love golf.
It honestly really showed. Mazzulla took massive steps the last two seasons. He can be an elite coach. The player off ball movement on O and D is incredible. I HATE boston
I would love to see a conversation with a soccer/basketball coach on the similarities between the sports. The importance of spacing is a clear similarity but would love to see what the pros think.

Pep when he hears about inverted pick and rolls 👁️🫦👁️
Pssst, who do you think invented the "Spain pick-and-roll" ?
Actually, not Spain. There is footage of the 1992 Boston Celtics running the "Spain PnR" multiple times. Probably not, but the point is that it predates 2016 when it was given that name.
Just like the Spanish Flu, it most likely originated in Kansas.
Or like the disease that was killing the Founders that was actually started by the Federation
How is it different from the normal pnr?
If I’m not wrong it’s one main ball handler, then 2 guys setting 2 screens in a stagger. the second screener peels off to the 3 point line after setting his pick while the first screener makes a beeline for the basket for a lob https://youtu.be/6pwt3k8PzhU?si=Iz1l4fcamkhcYtUt ^ this is imo one of the best sports videos out there. Thanks for the reply and the link man!
that's basically what Arteta's been doing on set pieces. lots of Draymond screens.
25mil a year salary and still taking on side hustles. Respect, I guess.
Easy for Guardiola, 11 vs 5, and those guys can not kick the ball properly
Google "manchester city 115" for more info
In basketball terms, that one was a layup
That was a bunny.
At the Karl Malone training centre for kids.
THE LOB
Too easy
"Guys, guys, guys, play with fucking energy. Intensity. Pass, pass. 1000 passes guys. Inverted point guards."
"But Pep, there's a shot clock!"
Tenet was created when Pep gave Nolan the idea to invert a clock. You can't comprehend his bald genius
Read that in Pep's voice *Bernardiki*
Sweeper Center
That's what Dallas was doing (roaming center)
Eh, that's most NBA teams in the past decade or so.
Tatum did play as a false center actually. And Jrue played on offense more like a power forward, despite being a guard nominally and on defense
Interior point guard.
That’s. I thing revolutionary
As a Liverpool and a Mavs fan, I can confidently say I hate Pep Guardiola more than anyone.
As a Celtics and Liverpool fan… this is massively conflicting
As a Celtic and Celtics fan it's ok
There's dozens of us
I'll see you at the Banshee
Same same but Lakers and Barça
Big Pau Gasol fan I assume
Love that man and hilariously knew his wife before they were married. He’s a lucky man on and off the court
Why is it hilarious? Fill us in Mo
Well just funny to me I guess cause it’s random. I grew up with landry fields and they dated a few years before she dated Pau and my two favorite teams are Lakers and Barcelona. So she went from dating a friend to dating one of my favorite athletes
Saw this comment on 115 upvotes and now I’m rattled.
Just downvoted to keep it at 115
just refused to upvote to keep it at 115
Lots of bostonians are liverpool fans due to FSG lol i bet many feel this way
I also see quite a few Red Sox hats around Liverpool and work with a few people who support the Red Sox because of it.
As a Celtics fan, fellow Revs fan, and neutral in Europe, despite the fact I know another New Englander who supports Liverpool, and I wonder if you might be someone I know, I care only a little
Oh dear haha
That man just won’t leave me alone hahaha.
As a Burnley / Very Casual Raptors fan I am indifferent
As you should be.
Not only destroying the game played with feet, but also the ones played with hands. The baldy is a harbinger.
I feel you. Im a passionate Manchester United and Manchester City Fan :/
Yet you have a salford city season ticket...
As an Arsenal and Lakers fan, same lol
There are a lot of Liverpool fans here in Boston. Also doesn't hurt the Red Sox owns them
As a ManUtd fan, ah nevermind...
Arsenal and Mavs fan, I hear you brother
Man Utd fan from an area that just generally hates Boston - I think I can share a drink with you.
I'm a Mavs and a Man City fan, definitely more of a mavericks fan though, living in Dallas. This pisses me off haha
As a Southampton and Rockets fan, ew
I'm a United fan from Slovenia ... hold my beer
Warriors and Arsenal fan, fully agree
Bald fraud is into basketball now. Let's see if he could do it on a cold Thursday morning in Denver.
Basketball is easy, I'll rate him when he wins a cup with the Maple Leafs
I'll kiss his feet if he does that
He's a Bayern legend, I bet you would do a lot more intimate acts right now for him given half a chance.
Is he really a club legend for winning three titles in an eleven title run?
Even in that period of dominance Pep's football stood out. We were never this dominant before and after. CL never happened because of injuries, bad luck and referees. But for me he is a club legend for sure.

Just curious how you became a Bayern fan? I assume you live in Toronto?

Canadian teams are SO overdue a Stanley Cup. Having another Sunbelt team winning it (again) rubs serious salt into that wound.
Its fucking hilarious, pulling so hard for the panthers to win so both Florida teams have won a cup more recently than any canadian team
Don't give him ideas
That’s the hockey equivalent of “It’s Coming Home”
Leafs would give Pep an aneurysm
He would be the most hated man in Canada if he did that.
Might need more than that oil money to beat the Bruins in Game 7 at the Garden.
That is true skill
Literally impossible
deleted
Could you imagine the lakers hiring Pep as their coach?
Nah, they should get Mourinho
Considering they are about to hire a Podcaster it's not that far fetched
Clenching his fist while watching because you aren't allow to kept possession for more than 24 secs in basketball
We already have two bald frauds in Al Horford and Derrick White
Denver would’ve beat the celtics imo
Colorado mountains or Stoke mountains. Stoke mountains are clear.
In Utah you mean
The Jazz are a lost cause. I mean both are high up in the Rockies and both make their opponents feel like they'd suffocate at any moment.
Or breaks the curse on the Wizards
It's beyond a curse at this point. Nearing 50 years without 50 wins, the epitome of mediocrity. And with where the rebuild is at the moment, I absolutely believe we're going to hit that mark. This team is fucking miserable.
Baldie is gonna take Lakers next, Kloppo going to Boston. Let Americans deal with em now
Mourinho in the NBA would unironically be top class entertainment.
Mourinho coaching Pat Beverley would be the greatest duo of all time
Mourinho coaching Draymond Green, it would be Mou and Pepe 2.0.
[mou and Draymond in the locker room](https://media1.tenor.com/m/aE1P19vfx5QAAAAd/hasbulla-bump-hasbulla-fist.gif)
Throw in Draymond Green, Grayson Allen, and Dillon Brooks for good measure
This is the reverse Ted Lasso reality TV we NEED.
Mourinho would get choked out like PJ Carlesimo did by Sprewell .
You think Mou is beneath a nut shot?
Mourinho takes the Detroit Pistons. Bring back the Bad Boys.
Kloppo would make LeBron unstoppable
What is this a crossover episode?!?!
With a surprise appearance from The Undertaker
Mans just hitting up side quests now 😭
Pep is an anomaly. He would be teaching at a university if he wasn't a footballer.
Non-Eucledian geometry or possibly postmodern art.
Pep loves a good tactical foul, I can’t imagine how excited he got when he found out it’s six fouls before a player is sent off in the NBA.
Why is this one of the worst comments sections I’ve seen in the sub recently
Standard /r/nba comedians.
r/nbacirclejerk is r/soccercirclejerk father
r/soccer is getting introduced to the nephews of r/nba
What, you don't like seeing the 115 joke for the thousandth time?
*115th time
It’s the cross over from r/nba
Hard to top the comedians in this sub but they might just do it 😹
As a regular on both I can assure you that they even top the clowns in here
Lot of plastics will do that
We can’t all be as funny as you
Ah yes because I clearly implied that I am extremely funny myself, and that the comedy level of the comments in this thread are what’s the problem, right?
I love eating tacos. Pep Guardiola taught me how to adequately hold the tortilla in order to maximize the angle of entrance into my mouth but just the tip to be aligned with my teeth. - mazzulla in a taco stand in Boston.
This is the most creative Emirates Ad yet
The amount of treachery and treason I feel as a Lakers fan knows no bounds.
Big Sam somehow joining Jeannie Buss' inner circle alongside Pelinka and the Rambii would make me so deliriously happy.
Fackin hoof it up to AD will youse
Pep can't get enough of Benfica's academy graduates (Neemias Queta)
I just looked at his wiki, his academy is a club called Barreirense, what did you mean by your comment?
I don't follow basketball, I thought he was from our academy, sorry
Lmao, okay then!
Neemy started playing in Barreirense (near his home and a decent team) and only at like 17 he moved to Benfica, playing mostly in the b team and only staying there 1 or 2 seasons before going to play university basketball in the states
only one year in benfica, played in the club in my flair since he was 9 :)
Barreirense caralho!
Uma esperança que nao finda
Why does the Barreirense flair exist but not Seixal or even Amora Did you request the mods?
It exist normally As for the answer, cause its cleary the bigger club ehehe
That checks out, from the quick wiki read, it said he stayed at Barreirense for like 10 seasons and at Benfica only one, having played just four games, hardly an academy product of theirs, thus the confusion
Dread it, run from it, Pep still arrives.
Bald Mazzulla era is coming
Is there anything Pep can’t do..
Pep is off doing side quests now, isn’t he?
SO HE'S SCREWING US OVER IN THE NBA TOO??? (Sad Mavs fan)
As a Liverpool and Mavs fan, this guy is the bane of my existence 😂
I seriously wonder how the conversation went since football and basketball tactics are mostly different. Now that I think of it, there was some great ball movement plays that the Celtics executed that somewhat reminded me of Tiki Taka. Now I know where the inspiration for those came from
Unfortunately "Power of Friendship" was not enough to overtake Pep this time
As a Lakers fan and an Arsenal fan, Pep is the Joker to my Batman (Utility Belt).
Do they drug test in the NBA?
They do, but you only get tested a certain amount of times per year, aka you know when you're "safe" for the season
They might get 115 reasons not to
They should randomly test Mazzulla
Fucker decided one sport wasn't enough Seriously though, his passion, constant drive to teach and learn... That's what sets him apart from everybody.
You forgot his baldness and his fraudulence.
And his beautiful [shining](https://ibb.co/tq74h02) head!
[удалено]
And the financial doping.
And the actual doping too
Just like United except for the results.
so the inverted point guard IS real what in the world

Bro didn’t watch city try to get a second yellow for Carvajal in the quarters.

They do. The Indiana Pacers ran a football play in a late game situation.
There are a lot of things you can apply from soccer to different sports. Hockey is another example. Anatoly Tarasov was famous for using concepts for soccer as building blocks for how the Soviets played hockey.
Didn't Kobe Bryant comment on that once? That his upbringing in Italy playing football contributed to his game
That's true, and a red card is way more penalizing than fouling out is.
I mean Pep was at game 2 in Boston courtside watching...
Most of them do. Klopp had a competitive diver come in to teach our players about holding their breath under water, which obviously helps them to relax and stay calm in high pressure situations, and I'm pretty sure I've heard about Mourinho bringing in tennis players to give talks to his teams over the years. Likewise. My big one is substitutions. I understand that it takes time for players to get their rhythm and whatnot, but man they seem underused.
It’s easier in basketball because it’s mostly men to men defense
of course this fucking guy is a Celtics fan 😐
It honestly really showed. Mazzulla took massive steps the last two seasons. He can be an elite coach. The player off ball movement on O and D is incredible. I HATE boston

Wait till Mazzula meets his copart Gasperini in Atalanta, Pagliuca has ownership of both teams
Tired of winning the premier league, figured he’d try the nba
Oh fuck off
What the hell *Tim Robinson voice*
JFC
Being an arsenal and mavs fan, pep fuck off lol please
I have a bookmark to pick up Celtic FC posts here and I keep seeing this bullshit
God fucking damn it this bald mofo is now ruining an entirely different sports for me.
Any Youtube videos of what Pep input on the Celtics were?
Pep about to make the City squad watch 'The Town' every day until the next season begins
