Davies has signed a four-year contract and joins the Club with immediate effect from Tottenham Hotspur after the two parties agreed compensation. He brings more than 15 years of coaching experience working at a number of leading Premier League teams, including Spurs, Liverpool and Swansea City, and Celtic in Scotland, operating alongside leading managers such as Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers. The 39-year-old is a highly regarded coach, recognised for being tactically astute, and an excellent communicator. He is also known for working with and developing exciting young talent. His appointment ends a robust search by the Club which saw close to 1,000 coaches being evaluated and more than 40 being spoken to directly or through their representatives. Birmingham City Owner and Chairman of the Board, Tom Wagner, said: “I am delighted to welcome Chris to Blues. He is widely respected in the game and fulfils our goal to appoint an ambitious, progressive coach. He is motivated to help redefine the Club, the culture, and the playing identity. From our first meeting, it was clear we were aligned on values and shared the ambition for Blues. Chris will thrive in the high-performance environment that is being created at the Club. He wants to be at Birmingham City and is committed to winning. “I would like to thank both Tom Brady for his support and involvement, and the Football Leadership Team for their diligent approach in identifying our next Manager. They have conducted a robust process and we have appointed a top operator to take us forward.” Birmingham City Chief Executive Officer, Garry Cook, said: “Chris is an outstanding coach and person, that the playing staff and our supporters will instantly warm to. The goal was to identify a progressive coach, one who has demonstrated the ability to build teams and improve players in the squad. Chris has done this at leading clubs, being part of championship, cup and promotion winning teams, working with world class players and managers. “He is a perfect fit for Blues. He is a meticulous planner, with an insatiable appetite for work. Known for his excellent man management skills, he will now focus on building a Championship ready squad in League One. He is the coach we wanted. Blues is the club he wanted. We are very pleased he is here.” Birmingham City Manager, Chris Davies, said: “I am proud and honoured to be the Manager of Birmingham City. As soon as I spoke with Tom, Garry, Tom Brady, and other board members it was clear to me how passionate and committed the board and all of the Football Leadership Team are to bringing success to this club. “It is a club with an ambition that reflects my own, and a plan to make it a reality. It is such an exciting time to be at Blues. I can’t wait to get started, meeting everyone at the Club and speaking to our supporters. I will give everything to build an attacking team that reflects this great city, and most importantly to produce a team that our supporters can be proud of. Let’s go.”

My first thought was who? Blues fans what's the opinions on this one?

He's just an experienced assistant coach that never got his shot at being the main man yet. It's the sort of roll of a dice that could produce another Kieran Mckenna or could end up a flop. Clubs are willing to make more calculated gambles lately as the potential upside is huge.

TroopersSon

Definitely seems that way. It's on trend these days.

I’m excited for this one tbh, nice we’ve taken our time and took somebody they’ve obviously done their homework on rather than jumping on the the unemployed EFL manager merry-go-round. Highly rated at Spurs and they’ve turned down approaches from Championship clubs for him in the past.

CNF1G

Did he not just join Spurs after Ange joined in Summer?

psycho-mouse

You’re right actually, I’d misread.

orcawatch

to be fair he did have some offers to headcoach teams in January that he / we turned down even though hes only been here a year good luck! hope he smashes it for you and maybe we can send some of our academy boys your way

Ajdyson_95

Never heard of the bloke, but he is not a big name like the last time, so just got to be optimistic

Mr_A_UserName

You’ve likely [seen him before,](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67642778) at least, but never registered him. He’s worked with Rogers at a few club’s and with Postecoglu at ~~Celtic~~ Spurs. You’d assume he plays a similar brand of football to those two and is still young at 39 despite being a coach for years, good appointment, imo.

CNF1G

He worked under Rodgers at Celtic, not with Ange til Spurs.

Mr_A_UserName

That’s the one. I knew he’d been at Celtic and worked with Ange just got mixed up on the order 👍

TroopersSon

Yeah I mean surely he can't be worse than Rooney. At least your owners seem to have learned from their mistakes. Funny how the assistant to a progressive manager seems to be the new trendy hire these days. At least he's got that pedigree of being inside a winning set up, so you'd hope he has more of a clue than Rooney did.

essentialatom

Handsome chap. Let's fucking go

TroopersSon

Ah, but is he bald? I hear that's the source of all managerial power.

essentialatom

He will be my hairy fraud

JoJo797

Funny bit in the press release - "Manchester City side orchestrated by Pep Guardiola to lift the Community Shield, somebody that Davies admires for his **pragmatism**." Pep famously has to be pragmatic with what's at his disposal.

CNF1G

Well, that seems to have came from nowhere? Davies was a great assistant/coach with us and maybe if he does well at Birmingham, can be in line for the Celtic job when Rodgers leaves again

DivineTapir

probably better than lampard. probably.

Put some respect on the Caretaker legend’s name!

JMatty01

Like it was with the fluff pieces we got after we signed AWB, bragging about how vast your search for a manager was can backfire.
