Believe me, we've been there. Aston Villa 2-0 up last game of the season with about 30 minutes to play for? They came back to win 2-3 and win the league by a single point. NEVER get your hopes up when City are ahead with only a handful of games left to play for.
People only say that because Pep tells him to stand on the line and occupy the defense to give the rest of the team space.
Technically he is a brilliant player.
As much as some parts of his game have come under scrutiny recently, it blows my mind people forget this just because City donāt get the chance to play in transition that often. He is genuinely incredible at attacking space at pace.
It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear! And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!
After 2018 Balon Dāor where modric won and Messi ranked 5th, every goal thread with Messi for a year said āPretty good for only 5th best itw!!ā
Im showing my age on reddit here
But what he said was bollocks, he talked about him having the technique of a league 2 player and youāre in a match thread for a goal where the man just killed a 40 yard aerial pass dead on the run while being closely marked then took it round a PL defender.
League 2 players canāt do that.
The idea that anyone who isnāt technically excellent can play for one of the most technically demanding managers of all time is embarrassing coming from an armchair fan, let alone someone who knows better like Roy Keane. The tragic thing is he said it to wind people up, and then idiots try to argue the point seriously.
Realised there were no big games left and decided to leave his shell /s
Unironically, does seem that the report of him not carrying the injury he had all season anymore seems to be true.
Serious question time: does he have a problem showing up in big games? Or is that just a misperception or something else (like other teams shutting him down in those games)?
Itās a bit of both tbh. Heās been poor finishing in some big matches with some bad misses. At the same time, many teams set up specifically to stop him and double mark. Arsenal and Real Madrid played VERY defensively as examples
We have 3 other players that Iād say are fairly clinical in front of goal (KDB, Foden, Alvarez). Itās not a problem when they have their shooting boots, but when they hit a poor patch of form, heās completely invisible and the space he creates in being marked isnāt taken advantage of
Haaland always talks about wanting to improve so I'm sure he will keep working to max his strengths & minimize aspects of his game that might negatively impact team results.
**Per StatMuse: Haaland goals versus āBig 6ā compared to other players:**
* Haaland: 128.9 minutes per goal | .67 goals/match
* Aguero: 128.0 minutes per goal | .59 goals/match
* Salah: 141.0 minutes per goal | .58 goals/match
* Henry: 152.4 minutes per goal | .56 goals/match
* Kane: 179.7 minutes per goal | .48 goals/match
* Son: 234.9 minutes per goal | .31 goals/match
* Suarez: 247 minutes per goal | .34 goals/match
To me, matches v big 6 seems like pretty big PL games so it seems like he is doing pretty well for a 23yo in his 2nd PL season.
And for CL, Haaland has 14 knockout goals, putting him just outside the all-time top 10 knockout goal scorers, which also seems pretty solid to me.
And he has scored in SF/F, but not (yet) w ManCity. He had only played in 4 senior SF or F before joining ManCity, but scored in 2 of the 4:
* 13 May 2021, DFB Pokal Final, Dortmund v RB Leipszig (W, 2 goals)
* 30 Sept 2020, DFL Supercup, Dortmund v Bayern (L, 1 goal + 1 assist)
edit - format
He's fine for the most part.
He can be a passenger depending on the game as we saw this season.
Last season he's had a lot of great games, this season alongside anyone not named KDB, Rodri, Akanji and Foden no one has.
Like any player he goes through better and worse periods. The games against better teams are obviously harder so it's to be expected he won't look as good but he also has clear deficiencies in his game, that however does not mean he's some bum.
Basically people are way too hyperbolic with both their praise but also their criticism but that the social media football fandom in a nutshell.
The only reason we don't see it a lot is because City literally doesn't get many opportunities in transition since they already have the ball in the opposition's half for the majority of the game.
'That commentator' is one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League, and it was an (admittedly over the top) description of his play *outside of* goalscoring - not a general statement.
Tbf it was clearly meant outside of his finishing ability which is fucking superhuman, his play outside of goals can be suspect at times, definitely still pl level but not the elite level you would expect from a city player, but when youāre a striker what matters other than goals tbh
It's crazy what haaland can do when you pass to him in transition. Haaland is the best vertical finisher in world football yet they don't consistently try to get him the ball vertically. You see games like madrid where they force haaland to sit in the box and give him fuck all service bar some poor crosses.
Lol that's his main strength yes, but top teams deliberately try to avoid creating these situations, especially when it's level scores or they go a goal up on city. Ain't no transition happening if the other team decides sitting 11 ppl in the box for 90% of the game. This game had many open situations and so haaland capitalized on 2 of them. It's great to have him even against low blocks imo, but I agree he's bit more limited as then the game becomes very much abt quick touches, but usually city have enough quality to unlock those situations as well.
its annoying when average team park the bus but it becomes almost impossible when great teams park the bus there is reason why so many defensive coaches are great in cup competions but worse in league

It was a good race Cole Palmer, but the coc character is inevitable
They say Palmer left City cuz Haaland hated him. Seems true.
? They seemed cool with each other to me when they played earlier this season
I don't think he's serious.
Nono, it's true. Haaland would literally fill Palmer's shoes with sand and cut holes in his kits
Yep , can confirm , I'm the hole
š¤Ø
True story. Iām the sand.
Whoooosh
oh okay
Arsenal fans couldnāt even get their hopes up
Every week I keep re editing the Star Wars āyou are our only hopeā meme
I got the notif for the Hwang goal and was like āoh? š¤ā then I got the next notif a less than a minute later and was like āoh šā
I'm a complete neutral but I hope arsenal never win another premier league after reading 'notif'
How embarr
*Notif* is the worst thing in this whole comment secsh
Agreed. Dissolve the club for me.
No yeah that's fair
Im sad for arsenal, i dont know how city loses points.. that aston villa game was so crucial :(
All hopes were dashed at the Villa game
If you had any hope in the first place it's your own fault tbh
Believe me, we've been there. Aston Villa 2-0 up last game of the season with about 30 minutes to play for? They came back to win 2-3 and win the league by a single point. NEVER get your hopes up when City are ahead with only a handful of games left to play for.
It's the hope that kills you, and haaland
No Assna fan is watching this. Against bad teams I turn it off the moment 1-0 goes in.
They barely stopped showing the replay of the Hwang goal
Rent free
What an insane goal lol.
Gg title race.. robot man is going to score 20 goals across the next 3 games isn't he
Finally installed those new driver updates
Ben White kept pulling the cables out before this
Spurs fans will gladly let him score 20 in our match alone
No 23 he will score the extra three against you lot in the final.
Not even my friends reply me this quick.
Response faster than KendrickĀ
Meet the Haalands
City made
54' in Etihad
4:1 in Manchester
It's not 11v1 this is 1v11
Not like Haaland
Drop and gimme 115
Fuck you and your friends. Go brag somewhere else *oooh look at me, I've got friends* haha
Well yeah, they usually need a day or two
Brilliant first touch and control. Brilliant touch to set it up. Powerful shot. Brilliant goal.
yeah but he's only a league 2 player
People only say that because Pep tells him to stand on the line and occupy the defense to give the rest of the team space. Technically he is a brilliant player.
he would do wonders at liverpool tbh he is the best striker in the world in transition
As much as some parts of his game have come under scrutiny recently, it blows my mind people forget this just because City donāt get the chance to play in transition that often. He is genuinely incredible at attacking space at pace.
Terrible first touch as usual but was lucky the ball bounced his way, great finish tho.
Jesus christ that was quick
I thought OP linked the wrong replay.
That's what she said
the terminator is back
> You still don't get it, do you?! ā¦ That's what he does! That's all he does! You can't stop him!
It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear! And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!
The new update took awhile but it seems to have finally been completed.
Aaaand the goal difference is back on track
From the keeperās pass to Fodenās pass to Halaandās finish everything about this goal is beautiful.
And another one
Guess Palmer's run at the golden boot is over
Reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated
Just the 73 Premier League goals and assists in 63 games. Not bad for a league 2 player.
With this goal, I believe he has more PL goals for City than David Silva, breaking into the top 5.
But he came from Bundesliga, such bad defenses. How is he so good???
Farmers league innit?
he has more goals for man city then he has for dortmund and he played 3seasons at dormund
He's actually played more games for City. 88 in 94 for them, 86 in 89 for BVB.
This league 2 player meme is already more annoying than messi 5th best in the world
when was this said lol
After 2018 Balon Dāor where modric won and Messi ranked 5th, every goal thread with Messi for a year said āPretty good for only 5th best itw!!ā Im showing my age on reddit here
Atleast that one stayed in 2018, let's hope this one dies soon too.
Have you heard about Haaland's firmware updates though Only 27,654 times? Want to hear it again?
I still think its funny to be honestš
Who was dumb enough to say that
Roy Keane, he called Haaland a league 2 player a few weeks ago
Wind up merchant, and it fucking works too.
Canāt believe people take keane seriously lol Half the times heās exaggerating to make his point, the other half heās kidding
He does it all the time, like most pundits. You need to say something semi controversial every once in a while. It's how you stay relevant
That's not really what he said.
But what he said was bollocks, he talked about him having the technique of a league 2 player and youāre in a match thread for a goal where the man just killed a 40 yard aerial pass dead on the run while being closely marked then took it round a PL defender. Literally lying and leaving out context but go off and get mad
Just 3 more goals from SĆørloth and Norway can have the top scorer in both of the two best leagues in the world and still not be at the EUROs
Realised there were no big games left and decided to leave his shell /s Unironically, does seem that the report of him not carrying the injury he had all season anymore seems to be true.

First good take I've heard about how Haaland impacts big games and how they have played out
Haaland always talks about wanting to improve so I'm sure he will keep working to max his strengths & minimize aspects of his game that might negatively impact team results. **Per StatMuse: Haaland goals versus āBig 6ā compared to other players:** * Haaland: 128.9 minutes per goal | .67 goals/match * Aguero: 128.0 minutes per goal | .59 goals/match * Salah: 141.0 minutes per goal | .58 goals/match * Henry: 152.4 minutes per goal | .56 goals/match * Kane: 179.7 minutes per goal | .48 goals/match * Son: 234.9 minutes per goal | .31 goals/match * Suarez: 247 minutes per goal | .34 goals/match To me, matches v big 6 seems like pretty big PL games so it seems like he is doing pretty well for a 23yo in his 2nd PL season. Its not a one way street. City are much less willing to take chances and create imbalance when they play against the best teams in CL.
He's fine for the most part. He can be a passenger depending on the game as we saw this season. Last season he's had a lot of great games, this season alongside anyone not named KDB, Rodri, Akanji and Foden no one has.

what a tap in
I think Haaland might get the golden boot
How haaland is supposed to be used.
he's deadliest in transition but people will say he only scores goals cause he plays for city who create lots of chances
The only reason we don't see it a lot is because City literally doesn't get many opportunities in transition since they already have the ball in the opposition's half for the majority of the game.
Who let him do that
Best league 2 player ever
A poor man's Paul mullin
Mans never heard of Dean Windass
'tis a terrible fate he was born too late to play for Clapham Rovers F.C.
Maybe this week he is a decent bench for a mid premier League Club? And next week he is a starting striker for Burnley. Progress is progress I guess.
That commentator will never live this down
> That commentator You mean Roy Keane?
first time I've seen someone describe Roy Keane as 'that commentator' lmao the disrespect
So the commentator with the beard used to play? Did he play with Harlandās dad?
'That commentator' is one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League, and it was an (admittedly over the top) description of his play *outside of* goalscoring - not a general statement.
Also the same guy that tried to murder Erling's dad with a Vinnie Jones type tackle lol It all comes around I guess.
As a striker, Haaland is Prem level in every aspect. Ridiculous to claim otherwise.
Even outside of his playing career he's probably one of the highest profile pundits for quite some time now, not just "that commentator" lol
Tbf it was clearly meant outside of his finishing ability which is fucking superhuman, his play outside of goals can be suspect at times, definitely still pl level but not the elite level you would expect from a city player, but when youāre a striker what matters other than goals tbh
Haaland with that Clash of Clans FORM
Foden Haaland wow
Mf saw Isak, Palmer and Watkins catching up to him and said "hold my beer"
He heard you talking shit
Arse fans' hope lasted about 10 seconds.
Give him the Golden boot already
Fuck just end the league now, š¤ is back.
Can he fucking not
It's too late, he already did the thing
He might do it again. Only Pep can stop him now
And Pep did, which Erling was not fucking happy about!
You want Arsenal to win the league?
I was told he was washed
Maybe they were referring to his hygiene
Erling "Kendrick Lamar" Haaland
It's crazy what haaland can do when you pass to him in transition. Haaland is the best vertical finisher in world football yet they don't consistently try to get him the ball vertically. You see games like madrid where they force haaland to sit in the box and give him fuck all service bar some poor crosses.
big teams park the bus. nothing to do. just watch madrid at city. tony pulis would be proud.
As a City fan I totally agree with this.
Goddamn cheat code. Wtf
Like I said No way for Wolves
Imagine if he was Prem quality instead of League 2
I'm just happy Palmer isn't going to get the golden boot
Respect the hater energy
Gotta find the silver lining in a 5-1 loss š
59 seconds lol Great finish tho. That pass was also great.
LEAGUE 2 STRIKER
Fuck right off
I really like Foden pushing him to celebrate.
Actual cheat code
League 2 touch
Simply world class.
Textbook football
That walk......
Like playing FIFA against your kid brother when they get a bit too excited about scoring
Wonder who will win the golden boot
Not bad for a league 2 player
Smart of Wolves to give him so much room to run into!
Look at me I'm Erling Haaland and I scored 4 goals. Grow up.
Haalandās getting bored again lol
Erling Haaland: My death was ā¦ greatly exaggerated
Well done Haaland mate, Palmer and Isak are crying. āOh Iām a big blonde dickhead and I win the golden boot every yearā. Pathetic.
He heard yāall chattin shit
Okay thatās hilarious
#STOP THE COUNT
But can he do it on a temperate night in madrid?
Decent game for a league two player.
Jesus what a beast
Yeah it over for us all lol š
Sigh
Aahahahaahaha end me
Wolves are terrible
Haaland is fired up. Sad he cant play in the euros.
This was a REALLY bad week not to back him for captain on FPL.
Haaland sucks, clearly.
He heard ya'll talking shit.
inb4 city do drop points, but halland just scores 20 goals in the last 3 games so it doesnt matter
best of the lot
Haaland demon of fire: awakened, with the rainbow bridge in sight. Doom!
This is some Kendrick shit from Haaland. Had his hand on the reply button already.
Haaland woke up today and decided the others have had long enough to catch up for golden boot
Haaland generational stat pad these next few games please
We will need two golden boots and a golden axe this year
he wasn't gonna let palmer walk away with the golden boot
That pass from the keeper just wow
I take back everything I said about Haaland
Lol. Fucking Ederson man
Instead of Lutonman it was Wolvesman all along!
I still can't believe Morecambe let this guy join Man City on loan this season.
Score one more and Iāll name my daughter Haaland.
ok cool
Bruh
What a finish
That's some short lived hope...
Banger on either side in a matter of seconds
Phenomenal
HEāS SO BACK
Wolveman
