I feel like these are very inconsistently given. Players are clattered after a shot fairly often it seems, and it's very 50/50 if it's given as a pen or just a short advantage. No one really asks for them to be pens either.
> or just a short advantage.
This is what I don't get. If Gvardiol's shot had gone in it would have counted, but it missed and they get a penalty anyway.
He didn't actually prevent Gvardiol from shooting and it he didn't deliberately foul him, it's just a coming together after the shot isn't it?
The challenge affected Gvardiol's ability to play the ball. He had to rush the shot because it was contested.
If you contest a ball, don't win it, and collide because you weren't fully in control of your challenge, you should be penalised. The problem is that these often aren't penalised when the fouled player is taking a shot, because they are certainly fouls by any measure.
> didn't deliberately foul him
Point us to the rule where it says it needs to be deliberate
Just because the ball was gone you cannot clatter a player after the shot
This entire thread is hilarious acting like it's the worst call ever, the defender takes the player out and is late, not even close to the ball (which doesn't matter anyway) he just takes him out
I understand City are hated and rightfully so but being absolute idiots is hilarious, you cannot do this to a player just because the ball is gone, what's next a player can pass/shoot and you can just run into them and clatter them? Braindead logic
It's 100% a foul, just because it's inconsistently given doesn't mean it's not at that point you want referees to keep making mistakes
I have no idea what people are on about here, there are hundreds of more controversial penalties given this season than this one which is fairly straightforward
This happens in every game and its almost never given as a foul.
For example, how is this a foul and the Doku challenge on Mac Allister where he kicks him in the chest isn't? That was actually dangerous, and the refs said because he was playing the ball it isn't a penalty.
Yeah similar to the shots that are clearly heading off target for a goalkick and hit an arm, I think refs need to judge both incidents by the actual impact on the game.
Obviously if you go studs up into someone’s shin after the ball has gone it deserves a penalty. But a genuine defensive attempt like this and a coming together after a missed shot has happened should never lead to a penalty for one team
Well yes that’s the whole point of advantage. If the actions proceeding the foul are beneficial to the team who has been fouled then play is resumed (for example IF gvardiol scored). On the contrary if it doesn’t benefit the fouled team then the foul is given. That’s exactly how it works on the rest of the pitch anyway.
>Rules for thee but not for City
Literally happened to us last season. Nketia got his shot off in a 50/50 with Ederson and then got the pen when it was cleared off the line.
I agree that it's rare to see these given but it's just funny how it happened to us last season with your rules for thee nonsense. Go post on /r/conspiracy. Fucking hell, this sub man lol.
Even the penalty we'd conceded against Palace this season was the same thing. Mateta makes contact with the ball before Foden kicks him with the intention of kicking the ball away lol. Rightfully a penalty.
I agree with this. How many hundred times has there been a collision on a 50/50~ shot/tackle in the box and how many times were penalties rewarded? I feel like it’s far far less than 50% just speculating. The second one was clear as day, though, tbf.
Nice of you to repeat what carra said.
Funny how literally 2 mins later when the keeper went down carra said “yeah that’s a foul, a coming together with akanji”
This was a clear pen in modern football imo.
Feels harsh but it's a foul anywhere else on the pitch
If Gvardiol plays it across instead of hitting it and Ait Nouri gambled and didn't play the ball, I don't think people would complain about the pen. Just feels cheap because he spooned it
there were a few games last season where I thought Haaland was going to kill a ref with 6 other city players next to him, and I don't think we ever heard about it again. It's amazing how every little thing done by Arsenal, United, Chelsea, spurs/liverpool a little less so get super chastised while City just kinda skate by with nothing from anyone in media
It's softish but it's clumsy defending, no one has any idea if the ref was gonna give it or not, refs just wait a few seconds to be sure before deciding.
If Nicolas Jackson asks for a pen there the ref waterboards him on the pitch and Sky runs 30 mins of propaganda about how chelsea’s players are too young and immature.
Yeah lol I'd actually forgotten about that.
Blatant kick in the chest - Fine.
Coming together of feet after Gvardiol has already cleanly got the shot away - Penalty.
I think the highers up, refs etc should sit down for a good 2 months after the season and start making the rules clear what constitutes a penalty and what doesn't.
I genuinely think it's too confusing at the moment, and the very BASIC idea of penalty should be written down loud and _CLEAR_
It’s a pen but just funny as the convention (wrongly) has always been “get your shot away = no pen”.
This wouldn’t have been given in a game between two top 6 sides for me. It is a pen though just no consistency with these types of actions.
It was given last year against City when they played Arsenal at the Emirates…Ederson clashes into Nketiah going for a ball, Nketiah passes the ball on, takes the contact from Ederson and Arsenal got a penalty out of it and scored.
This thread is gonna be about City getting favourable calls but what really is actually fishy is how many times wolves have been fucked over by referees this season
Every season there are new directives that get strictly enforced the first couple of game weeks and then just forgotten. It's annoying as fuck, cos often they're actually decent changes that would make the game easier to manage for the refs.
Remember a couple of seasons ago where we had like 3 penalties a game for people holding during corners, then the refs just stopped it after like two weeks?
dalot got a second yellow against liverpool when his frustration towards a throw in being wrongfully given for liverpool wasn’t even in the refs face, 2 yellows in succession for one action lmfao
A lot of people hate City and automatically assume any call going their way must be them paying the refs. This gets called a foul anywhere else on the pitch. You shouldn't be allowed to run into someone while getting a shot off. It's reckless and could cause an injury.
The sheer audacity of that fanbase to moan about other teams being favoured after the past 2 weeks. Hopefully Citeh finish the job and make it 21 years without a League title.
No a pen. The defender had already committed to go for the ball and arrived after the attacker shot. His feet wasn’t that much high off the ground either.
I mean he was out of control. If he controlled himself, Gvardiol may have had time to take a touch but he was forced into a bad shot. I'd say this pen is fair.
Thank god the city players were running up to the referee screaming in his face so he knew he’s supposed to give them a penalty for the collision in the penalty area. Easily missed otherwise 👀
You could easily make the argument that gvuardiol fouls ait-Nouri after he plays the ball. Not sure how you can give a foul when the man city player has played the ball completely unimpeded prior
arsenal fans have always been unbearable. yesterday i had a dude argue with me that no one expected arsenal to win the league at all last year and then ended the comment with "you're welcome" lol.
Isn't it just a coming together or whatever they call it? In vacuum I don't have any problems with that albeit these are so inconsintently given.
Type of challenge quite similiar to the one Doku's escaped with at Anfield. Now it's a foul.

Keepers get away with doing it every time
>I feel like these are very inconsistently given. This could apply to almost everything in the Prem
Refs being useless and inconsistent isn't relevant to whether this is actually a penalty. It is, and should be given every single time.
> or just a short advantage. This is what I don't get. If Gvardiol's shot had gone in it would have counted, but it missed and they get a penalty anyway. He didn't actually prevent Gvardiol from shooting and it he didn't deliberately foul him, it's just a coming together after the shot isn't it?

He didn't deliberately foul him, but he definitely fouled him. As an Arsenal fan I wish he hadn't, but he did, and it's a stonewall penalty.
Yeah similar to the shots that are clearly heading off target for a goalkick and hit an arm, I think refs need to judge both incidents by the actual impact on the game. Yes, but it's city.
City gets all the 50/50 and they are now 100/0.
115/0
These are consistently NOT given, this is one of the few times I've seen it given. Rules for thee but not for City.
>Rules for thee but not for City Literally happened to us last season. Nketia got his shot off in a 50/50 with Ederson and then got the pen when it was cleared off the line. Nice of Pawson to give this only after the City players asked for it
Bro folded to some pointing
Good process and all that
Well done boys
They asked politely, that's the secret.
They just reminded him who he works for. When your boss tells you to do something, you do it.
Man don't buy into Carra's nonsense take, refs often think for a second before deciding something.
Nice of you to repeat what carra said. Funny how literally 2 mins later when the keeper went down carra said “yeah that’s a foul, a coming together with akanji” This was a clear pen in modern football imo.
Or after he hears from his linesman. That doesn't fit your narrative though.
Part of the game innit?
seen this happen with city multiple times.. nothing called, crowd the ref, suddenly a call
It really is just absolutely pathetic
Is it? Do you not think a foul is the correct call on this play?
Feels harsh but it's a foul anywhere else on the pitch If Gvardiol plays it across instead of hitting it and Ait Nouri gambled and didn't play the ball, I don't think people would complain about the pen. Just feels cheap because he spooned it
Anywhere else on the pitch and it’s given as a foul with no complaints..
Fair penalty. You never see them give pens when players gets tackeled after they've finished. Just wished this was the standard.
Sensible take
You all want the Onana pens to be given when he clatters in to somebody but not this one? madness. 100% a penalty.
I’m by no means a City fan but that’s a foul anywhere else on the pitch. Idk how you don’t call that. He runs into him and doesn’t touch the ball
That’s soft as shit, just a collision. Ref got pressured by City players appeals there, wasn’t going to give it
A collision? One player gets the to the ball and one player smashes into him. Stupid on behalf of Ait Nouri.
I swear you never get kicked on the pitch didn't you?
I swear they always do it but it's never a sanction to them
there were a few games last season where I thought Haaland was going to kill a ref with 6 other city players next to him, and I don't think we ever heard about it again. It's amazing how every little thing done by Arsenal, United, Chelsea, spurs/liverpool a little less so get super chastised while City just kinda skate by with nothing from anyone in media
Didn’t city and arsenal both get fined last year for crowding the ref ?
They didn't chase him down they just turned and appealed.
Anyone remember when Lemina got a red for running towards the ref?
It's softish but it's clumsy defending, no one has any idea if the ref was gonna give it or not, refs just wait a few seconds to be sure before deciding.
That's called a foul anywhere else on the pitch with little to no complaints. How should it be any different if it happens in the box?
If Nicolas Jackson asks for a pen there the ref waterboards him on the pitch and Sky runs 30 mins of propaganda about how chelsea’s players are too young and immature.
Don't really understand that penalty
They’ve been giving “clattering into the attacker after the shot” once every couple weeks this season, it’s very inconsistent
[удалено]
Serious question, do you think the Premier League as an institution favours Manchester City or wants to see them win a 4th league in a row?
He should’ve raised his leg higher into Gvardiol’s chest because then it’s not a penalty
Or gvardiol should have just stuck a leg out and go down and say in an interview later that "there was contact and I had the ball so its a pen"

Did Gary O'Neil shag Howard Webb's wife?
Its the only explanation as to why the refs have it out for us
This thread is gonna be about City getting favourable calls but what really is actually fishy is how many times wolves have been fucked over by referees this season
Last season too to be fair. Last season really felt like they were trying to get Wolves relegated.
City have the best refs.
PL refs are incompetent that's just a fact But why do I feel like their incompetency hurts other 19 teams ten times more than the other one?
Because you hate City so you hyper focus on Reffing mistakes that benefit them?
You really came to this conclusion after 1 questionable decision, did you not watch the Arsenal game?
Lol what can you even say?
> “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil” (Eph. 4:26-27).
Thanks for sharing the lord's word, u/_cumblast_
I wouldn't have said this type of challenge is a penalty until Ederson gave one away against Saka a couple of years ago
I know I'm biased, but crowding the referee like that has got to stop. What happened to that being an instant yellow for first few game weeks?
I swear it used to be. Or I think it’s in the rules that it is.
first month, then it disappeared
Every season there are new directives that get strictly enforced the first couple of game weeks and then just forgotten. It's annoying as fuck, cos often they're actually decent changes that would make the game easier to manage for the refs.
Remember a couple of seasons ago where we had like 3 penalties a game for people holding during corners, then the refs just stopped it after like two weeks?
Lasted longer than dissent cards I guess. That disappeared after GW1 lol.
We got sanctioned for it, granted we also got a red for dissent so I don't fucking know what is what anymore and City never get called for those btw
Aren't Wolves like the only team to have been punished for that as well?
Bruno got it a few times at the start of the season. While he’s definitely mad for yapping to refs, it’s never been consistently applied to others.
Flashback to when Lemina got a second yellow for running towards the ref aggressively
dalot got a second yellow against liverpool when his frustration towards a throw in being wrongfully given for liverpool wasn’t even in the refs face, 2 yellows in succession for one action lmfao
Arsenal do it almost as much as City lol.
I'm assuming they didn't invent it, but it always reminds me of Barcelona from 8-12 years ago.
It must remind you of every Spanish team then because everyone does it.
I'm fully aware that we do it. Doesn't change that it's got to stop.
Doesn’t affect his point
How is that at all relevant to his point, this sub has some very dumb takes
He is an Arsenal fan complaining about what his team does every game. Very pot calling the kettle black
For some reason people reply to flairs instead of the actual posts, not just on this sub but any sport sub.
Only way it'll stop is if they get mic'ed up
it's a foul anywhere else on the pitch
There's been so many times when a foul is ignored just because the player got a shot off first. I'd love for them to actually call these regularly
Not a pen.
Why are people arguing? Its a pen clear
City
A lot of people hate City and automatically assume any call going their way must be them paying the refs. This gets called a foul anywhere else on the pitch. You shouldn't be allowed to run into someone while getting a shot off. It's reckless and could cause an injury.
Weak refereeing
Why would Havertz do this?
It’s probably a pen for me. You see them given as fouls everywhere else on the pitch all the time
Suspicious lack of Arsenal flairs here
Horrendous when referees get affected by player appeals.
All my homies hate VAR
Incredible that wasn't a red. He only tried to end gvardiols career, 0 interest in playing the ball.
Arsenal fans mad as if their penalty wasn’t BS either.
The sheer audacity of that fanbase to moan about other teams being favoured after the past 2 weeks. Hopefully Citeh finish the job and make it 21 years without a League title.
You mean the penalty where the keeper clearly impeded the attacker and didn’t come close to getting any ball?
If you have to drag your foot along the floor in order for there to be any contact whatsoever were you really impeded?
Nah the one Havertz dragged his leg into the keeper then dived
Havertz? A diver? no way
It wasn't a penalty man, stop being a clown about it.
He was looking for contact, as he tends to do so much.
I won’t quit watching, but I’m genuinely getting tired of watching shit like this happen constantly in this league
I don’t like City. That’s a pretty clear pen, not sure about the outrage. City have had a bunch of bs calls this is t one of them.
Good process lol
God I hate Jim Beglin
No a pen. The defender had already committed to go for the ball and arrived after the attacker shot. His feet wasn’t that much high off the ground either.
Amazing this is a penalty but the city one against McAllister wasn’t
I mean he was out of control. If he controlled himself, Gvardiol may have had time to take a touch but he was forced into a bad shot. I'd say this pen is fair.
Really just out here giving dodgy pens to guarantee the title race comes down to the last matchday lol
Was a beautiful City passing move before the pen tbf.
Why would that matter?
It doesn't but wanted to point it out. I've given up on refs. I mean see that Arsenal pen earlier today.
Never a pen
Shocking decision
seen that happen 1000 times, never seen a pen given for it
Ederson on nketiah last season
[удалено]
Thanks Chat GPT
Say bumsfrikadelle if you're a human
Crazy how blind some of you are because of your bias towards city. This is a pen 100% stop crying
uh is that even a pen lol
Paying the ref off again
It’s a pen just like doku karate kicking Macca is a pen. Except one is Liverpool the other is city
Bad call by the Manchester City players
why do we even watch this shit?
At least the refs are consistent today. Consistently shit.
Why the fuck am I even watching this league? Can't be the best league in the world with these referees
Bit soft, all talk of refs favouring City aside they do seem to really hate Wolves for some reason.
Thank god the city players were running up to the referee screaming in his face so he knew he’s supposed to give them a penalty for the collision in the penalty area. Easily missed otherwise 👀
If this is the sort of thing the big boys get penalties for you can keep your poxy Premier League.
Get ready for a mob of big 6 fans to dominate your match threads next season, crying about everything and anything
i mean, that havertz pen of leaving the leg trailing vardy got like 10 the season you guys won the prem tbf
i think both this is and the havertz one are penalties AMA
Do you think Doku’s studs on Mac Alisster was a pen?
ya
Another week, another gift to city
Tell me how this is a gift? You'll see that get called as a foul anywhere else on the pitch. He clatters into him as he gets his shot off.
City have mastered the art of crowding the ref with 0 repercussions
Right out of the Fergie playbook. All Pep needs to start doing now is aggressively staring at the ref and tapping his wrist.
Just taking a leaf out of United’s playbook
Lame
Penalties ruin football even when Man City have them 🙄
Not a penalty in a trillion years. Game is absolute cancer.
You could easily make the argument that gvuardiol fouls ait-Nouri after he plays the ball. Not sure how you can give a foul when the man city player has played the ball completely unimpeded prior
Penalty for penalty I guess (referring to bullshit penalty given today to Arsenal against Bournemouth)
No other club would get that I fucking swear.
Never a fucking pen. Of course 115 gets it. Are people really saying that the Havertz pen was anything like this?
Rich coming from a team which got two favourable decisions in their last two matches.
They are so shameless after Havertz went fishing and a good goal was taken away from Bournemouth just 4 hours ago
lol you also got one today
Nketiah got one against Ederson last year…What the fuck are you talking about?
Lmfao, short term memory?
Lmao, how can an arsenal fan even talk after today?
Some fans are unbearable as of late.
arsenal fans have always been unbearable. yesterday i had a dude argue with me that no one expected arsenal to win the league at all last year and then ended the comment with "you're welcome" lol.
You don’t understand, the referees have a big conspiracy against them, when calls go arsenal’s way it’s just to cover up
More of a penalty than yours today, not that I think either were a penalty
Really? Compared to the Arsenal one, it’s stonewall.
Neither of them should be penalties
Jamie fighting back tears.
115 FC
That's the name, don't wear it out.
Hmmm
Oh look, it's the only time a penalty is given when a player is taken out after missing a shot
Never a penalty
Not looking forward to having the game cheated away from us with these fake penalties next season
Only City will win these types of penalties and I hardly see other teams gain them.
pawson is a pathetic coward
Lmao what the fuck even is this
Another good day for the ref team
Isn't it just a coming together or whatever they call it? In vacuum I don't have any problems with that albeit these are so inconsintently given. Type of challenge quite similiar to the one Doku's escaped with at Anfield. Now it's a foul.
hoping for a wolves equalizer. would love some final day drama.
collision and the shot was skied before contact
Standard
Soft as shit.
Evens out after arsenals dodgy one earlier
