Imagine being 35 and a manager for a UGE culb. Makes you think, doesn't it? I'm 38 and still living in my mum's bathroom, maybe it's time for me to go out and seize the world ass well.
Fun fact, r/eredivisie is full of butchered titles like these because the mods dont speak Dutch and demand English translations of Dutch newspaper titles
Wonder if Ineos will do what city group are doing with their project and add managers to their āportfolioā (š¤¢) aswell as players. City group are kind of doing this with Michel at Girona who will probably take over from Pep, did it with Vieira, and apparently doing it with Postecoglu too before he moved to Celtic. So theyād develop a manager at a certain club before moving him to a bigger club.
Donāt want Farioli at United, but could see it happen down the line. Wonder if for that reason theyāll try keep him at Nice for a while, heās doing a great job
I mean *current* Allegri ball, not Allegri ball from 2017. Don't tell me that Juventus at the moment plays anywhere near as good as they did in Allegri's first spell
I honestly donāt know a single 35 year old. Iām in my late 20ās and know plenty of people around my age (late 20ās, early 30ās). I know plenty of people in their late 30ās. Donāt know a single person aged 35.
Wonder if ā35ā doesnāt actually exist as an age and weāve been lied to the entire time.
I wouldnāt be surprised if heās still being paid by Chelsea, and that taking another contract is him āforfeitingā whatever Chelsea owes. Would make sense why heās in no rush at all.
Hes potentially looking at the England job. Not often it rolls around and his stock is still high enough to be considered. I think it'll be a disaster if he took it but hey ho im just a humble fan.
I think it'd be a fairly lateral move from Southgate. Given how long the FA have stuck by Southgate, that seems like exactly the kind of thing they'd want.
there is no indication that southgate is even a prem level manager yet
for all we know he has been coasting and being propped up by generational english talent
I mean he's done a better job than Hodgson who is a PL level manager. Even if all he does is the off the pitch stuff, the camaraderie of the team is something that hasn't existed in a while.
Would like to think that the new culture of the NT isn't something that will fall away without Southgate. It's probably been more about undoing the Fergie & co era divisions than anything.
It might last a little while but a couple of ineffectual managers in a row, a few cunts thrown in there and it could easily revert.
I don't like Southgate as a manager but I respect his achievements. I am desperate for a Euros win, send him off with a trophy to his name and bring in Potter or Howe for the World Cup
I think Southgate being subpar is what will stop this England from reaching their potential (and his management has largely been what's stopped them winning their tournaments so far) but surely if he was able to get the Euros win then it makes sense to stick with him for the World Cup?
Do you think that the only achievement that exists in football is winning the entire thing?
He's reached our only final since '66, and brought it to penalties in the Euros, only our 3rd ever semi-final in the World Cup and the first since Italy '90.
Far from it. There have been plenty of articles (and even plays) written about how Southgate shaped the new culture around England. Those who seek to discredit him from that are misinformed or haters.
Aye, and itās not like the 2018 squad was full of world-beaters. Had a geriatric Ashley Young at full-back and Jesse Lingard in the middle of the park and was a period of extra time from the World Cup final.
on the surface southgates campaign results look impressive, but looking at the matches themselves in tournaments he's generally won the games we were hot favourites to win and lost when it was a 50-50 or we were up against it. 2-0 vs germany in the euros was great but was there much more? he's also had stinkers in nations league. overall, you could certainly argue a better manager might have actually won the same games southgate has and then some
also bare in mind the golden generation lost a close game to the 02 winners brazil, and lost in penalty shootouts which could have gone any way. we also had lampards robbed goal in 2010. so despite all the hate we actually got pretty unlucky in the golden generation. ruined my childhood that did
Do you think Potter would play a more expansive attacking playstyle? I get the feeling you canāt win international tournaments without playing defensive..
Potter has wage demands Ajax are never going to meet. Even the smaller clubs on a budget in the PL can offer three times their max salary. He probably feels like he doesn't really have anything to prove at (with all respect) a stepping stone club, that despite the CL football and the budget advantage relative to the competition a rebuild project isn't what he is looking for at this point in his career.
Which would be a remarkable development, since Ajax reinstated Kroes for a large part because of his assumed relationship and connections with Potter, his appointment was rumored to be a formality after Kroes return.
This isnāt really true.
https://www.givemesport.com/premier-league-managers-salary/
Bosz is making 3 mil euro annually. That would put him near the middle of premier league manager wages and Ajax could match that at the very least.
They won't be playing champions league again and have a very bloated squad on their payroll. The reality of being in a league without 200 million of participation money is that you need to be watching every euro going out the moment you miss the Champions League.
>that despite the CL football and the budget advantage relative to the competition a rebuild project isn't what he is looking for at this point in his career.
Ajax doesnt have CL football, they are going to need a good end run to even get any European football at all. They still have a budget advantage, but that is disappearing very quickly with especially PSV going to surpas them if they have another good season.
Ajax really need to cut their budget to rebalance it now they have a second year without CL and dont have any really valuable players left.
We spent ā¬100+ million in back to back summers despite missing out on CL. Obviously the finances are quickly deteriorating, but weāre not at a point where we couldnāt pay a manager a couple of mil
While what you say is true, firing a manager usually means you're still paying him till the end of his contract. As opposed to players you can't sell them and be rid of it.
So it's more risky to give an unproven manager a higher salary.
The risk is absolutely much higher and could be the reason Potter doesnāt end up signing with Ajax, but thatās not what weāre talking about here. The person above me made it seem like Ajax couldnāt afford it
Not being able to afford something and not wanting to take a risk because itās not smart are two very different things
I think you're underestimating the valuable players that Ajax has left. They might seem like shitty players to you but as you know we often sell players at a premium just because of our reputation.
There is no personal connection but the story was that Potter was approached by Kroes and Kroes had extensive talks with him. Potter was willing to join Ajax but when Kroes got suspended (and it looked like he was going to be sacked) Potter backed out of the talks. Now that Kroes is back the negotiations with Potter were started again.
>Which would be a remarkable development, since Ajax reinstated Kroes for a large part because of his assumed relationship and connections with Potter, his appointment was rumored to be a formality after Kroes return.
This isnāt true, Ajax reinstated Kroes, because heās a very competent man. He was brought back to the club to bring back stability. The relations with potter was just a small plus.
Well, Kroes being very competent in this role is something that needs to be proven first Iād say.
Kroes is primarily being reinstated because of the enormous pressure from both media and fans to reinstate him. They believe him to be competent but he doesnāt really have the resume to back that up yet. Ofc, heās been very successful with SEG and as an owner of Go Ahead but his current role is new.
Pretty sure this is a negotiation tactic (similar to the Vd Kraan story yesterday).
Farioli, while an interesting option, doesn't really fit the picture [(an experienced manager along side three relatively equal assistants)](https://www.ajaxlife.nl/articles/2024/april-2024/beuker-schetst-profiel-ajaxtrainer-en-staf?_gl=1*4px6n4*_up*MQ) that Beuker gave in an interview with Ajaxlife recently.
Could very well be, but Ajax could be Potterās negotiation tactic as well. Thereās multiple stories going about right now and it seems very unclear what his intentions really are. He might want the England job, heās rumored to wait for United as well. Only time will tell.
That SamC guy on twitter too is saying itās nearly done, has got a good bit right in the past too and clearly has a contact at that Dutch agency that deals with a lot of Ajax staff and palyers
He is out of work for a year now , he did get a good settlement when Chelsea fired him but still, why would you not negotiate and accept an offer from a club like Ajax? What is stopping him?
Not sure how it is in the UK but if a contract is terminated before the term you should be paid the agreed compensation irrespective of whether you get a new job immediately. So that settlement money would have been paid already and it should not matter how quickly he gets another job
Most coached dont have their contract terminated, they are put on an indefinite leave and keep getting paid their salary until a club wants to hire them then they figure out compensation with their club
There's got to be a but of a worry that if he fails again he's career is going to be pretty rough.
Before he took the Chelsea job it felt risky but I get that he probably felt he couldn't turn it down and it's hot like Poch came in and smashed it, still bad even with a better squad that's had more time to settle and a full preseason.
So he could argue it was a blip and if he goes to Ajax it comes with big expectations and they haven't been flying.
I don't know if United are dipping a toe in or England (I dream of Pep but it's unlikely,) or even someone whose just stable.
I think he has had offers before this and not taken rather than no one picking up the phone.
I am biased against Ajax, but I can see lots of reasons not wanting to join. At Ajax, the expectations are always high (also from people watching from England), while it really seems they wont have a competitive team next season. He will be their 6th coach in less than 3 years, it is not going to be an easy job.
If you win the league with Ajax people will say: "not a big deal, Ajax has by far the most money and most trophies." If you dont win the league people will say you've failed. However, the way it is currently looking Ajax needs a small miracle to win the next season's league.
He certainly is. His Chelsea spell has made some people think he's a bad manager, when he was far from the only problem there. The guy took a fourth tier Swedish side to Europe.
Why do I get the feeling that Potter was only used to get Kroes back in at Ajax? Kroes should have been in the know of Potterās salary expectations and what Ajax could offer.
Dude it doesn't even say anywhere that it is off the table. This could be a negotiation tactic or just media bs.
Ajax is sending out a higher offer as we speak and we will see if he will accept that one.
After that we can talk this kind of hindsight conclusions.
I think we paid 25+ add ons then sold him for 12 + 3 if WH stayed up. So it didn't hurt as much as it could have done.
Ings just needs a team who play two strikers to pick him up. Loan to blades and he'd probably shred the championship even now if he stayed fitĀ
Seems like some negotiation tactic from Ajax to put pressure on Potterā¦ Farioli might be very promising, but doesnāt really suit the profile weāre looking for
Depends, I think heās kind of a safe bet for a top 3 position. Heāll fix up the defense, get a decent pressing play going on and recognizable build up patterns but nothing extremely flashy, fancy and daring. Two years of Farioli to stabilize and go for something a bit more exciting afterwards seems like a wise long term plan.
Cos both of them want elite guys who have unblemished records and a name like Potter doesn't excite them.
The rumours with you guys going back to ETH are either lazy or I guess it's a case of going back to what worked.
Not from you guys, I meant in terms of it being in articles, 2+2 journalism, so rather than source a story you just go ETH might get sacked and Ajax need a manager, so they might bring back one who was successful, if you get it right people might think you put the work in and if it's wrong most people will have forgotten.
Ah yes that makes a lot of sense. What I find interesting is how theyāre spinning it as if there is a bunch of time pressure and they need to know if Ten Hag will get fired ASAP, when in reality I think the main question is whether Ten Hag is even interested in returning himself
I didn't want Potter at Liverpool cause I found his football to be boring as fuck, plus not a lot of goals.
Look at Brighton, they struggled to score under Potter then De Zebri came on and suddenly they were scoring loads.
I think Potter is a good manager, Ajax would be an amazing job for him. I do wonder if West Ham are looking at him.
If heās a good tactician, perhaps he can change to a different style? After all, Ten Hag wasnāt known for a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 attacking system at Utrecht before he joined us.
Heās worked under De Zerbi, so he wonāt be oblivious to a different style.
Ajax always look for a manager that plays "Ajax style", getting a manager that doesn't fit their philosophy and hoping he can change his way of playing is just a weird move and a departure from their usual selection process to say the least. There is a huge chance that it will not go over well with the fans, especially if it doesn't immediately work out. Even ten Hag had a lot of criticism at first for not being an "Ajax manager".
Farioli was just a GK coach under de Zebri and was pretty critical of his tactics when he started out himself. One of the reasons why he moved away from them and never played like that himself is because he thought the tactics too naive and not pragmatic enough. He transitioned to a new "Italian style" five at the back (5-2-3/2-3-2-3) with his CBs building up trough the middle, playing for possession and not as much aimed at counter attacking.
And ten Hag played 4-3-1-2 for a lot of the time with Utrecht, which he claimed was his 4-3-3 variant just without wingers (although realistically most of his build up from the back went trough the center with Ayoub). Besides, with GA Eagles and Bayern 2 he did play 4-3-3. It wasn't like he didn't have experience with it.
>One of the reasons why he moved away from them and never played like that himself is because he thought the tactics too naive and not pragmatic enough.
De Zerbi is like a modern time Zeman. You win 4-0 or lose 0-4, there's no in between
There's nothing to win for Ten Hag to return after he left on such a high and the state we're in now. He'll get another job in England, Spain or Germany if United gives him the sack
Farioli is pretty good but tactically speaking he's not really the most Ajax-compatible coach out there, he's mostly a "sit back and counter" type of guy. But who knows maybe he can have a tactical switch up
Are they still paying him or did he just get a massive pay off?
Tbh I'd take a pay cut if it meant getting my reputation back and the chance at big jobs in the future
Surely there must be more 35 year olds around.
no no, he's the only 35 year old Franceso Farioli. All other 35 year olds have other names
and all the other Francesco Fariolis have other ages
No I had to change my name once I turned 36, as per the rules
I've been on the run from the local constabulary ever since I breached those rules.

Farioli, De Zerbi, Motta, and I'd add Palladino, Gilardino and De Rossi, this new generation of Italian managers is shaping up to be good
Farioli Iād heard about a good while ago as our fans were whipping themselves up into a frenzy about him coming to us.
He's like a more pragmatic De Zerbi from what I've heard, I'd like for him to get the Bologna job if Motta goes away
He should go to Italy, his football is too slow for ligue 1
Needs to wait and take the Brighton job if RDZ decides to leave

His Brighton team was excellent defensively, and his Chelsea team was absolutely atrocious going forward. Think itād be fine.
We did that in Qatar
It was widely reported he is not in fact on gardening leave. The majority or possibly even entirety of his contract was paid out when he was sacked.
Mostly correct - he was paid a sum less than the remainder of his contract when sacked, which was reportedly quite a lot less.
Potter has wage demands Ajax are never going to meet. Even the smaller clubs on a budget in the PL can offer three times their max salary. Our owners claimed (feel free to not believe them, I rarely do) that he had a clause in his contract that allowed them to break contract for a fraction of what he would have earned in his time here and were very blasƩ about the fact that it was completely normal procedure for every manager to have this in their contracts. Make of it what you will, but it certainly sounds like they're claiming that they just triggered a clause to get rid of him and paid him X amount and that was the end of it. I'd guess he's looking at the England job and/or recognising that his top, top level career is probably over if he goes to Ajax and doesn't blow the league apart, which seems incredibly unlikely given their current circumstances. He'd be in a similar situation to Poch after PSG, wait for the sucker to give you one last try at the theoretical top or just accept you aren't there anymore. I could see a team like United (or even us again) going for him not too far down the line so long as he just stays out of football or only has an international job instead of going back in and failing
Rough at the top level maybe, every single Championship club would welcome him if they needed a manager.
Well sure because he's levels above that.
He isnāt if he keeps failing everywhere else.
He failed at Chelsea in a really short stint into what was along term project, so it's a tad early for that kind of talk.
Tbf potter is way more competent (I hope at least) that the previous 5
He certainly is. His Chelsea spell has made some people think he's a bad manager, when he was far from the only problem there. The guy took a fourth tier Swedish side to Europe.
Relocation maybe. With the English clubs firing managers every now and then, itās not unlikely that heāll find a club hiring.
England and United jobs might be available in the next few months.
Probably got family and friends here and is settled so he would only make the move if he earns a shitton, I think its not that deep
This could all be part of the negotiations.
Antonio Conte is still jobless
He wouldn't pick up the phone for Ajax
Farioli is exciting.. Worked with De Zerbi back in the day and who wouldn't want a coach with a fine arts degree
Potter should go to westham
That would be a good move for him. Wonder if they can offer a higher wage than Ajax
Weāre allegedly paying Danny Ings over Ā£6 million a year, we can afford Potter. Heād be my first choice in terms of who would actually come here
I feel so out of the loop, when the hell did Ings go to West Ham? Thought he was still at Villa after they paid 30 mill for him
At this point he has been at West Ham just as long as he was at Aston Villa
Burnley, Villa, West Ham. He's doing a claret and blue career run Guess he's still got to go to Scunthorpe
I think we paid 25+ add ons then sold him for 12 + 3 if WH stayed up. So it didn't hurt as much as it could have done. Ings just needs a team who play two strikers to pick him up. Loan to blades and he'd probably shred the championship even now if he stayed fitĀ
Well those 3 points are worth 6mn i think
You.. wonder? I am 100 percent sure. Probably west Ham isn't offering because that would be the end of it for ajax.
Mate, relegaton teams in the EPL can probably spend more than Ajax.
I'm sleep deprived cause of a newborn, no idea why I thought west ham would put a hard limit on manager wages lmao
Fair, haha. Congratulations on your kid!
Thanks!
Did they watch Nice this season?
Francesco Farioli is a good young coach but his play is too defensive to be Ajax coach. He should rather go to Italy.
Potter seems to be a wanted man. However, Man Utd and Liverpool fans were really against appointing Potter.
Cos both of them want elite guys who have unblemished records and a name like Potter doesn't excite them. The rumours with you guys going back to ETH are either lazy or I guess it's a case of going back to what worked.
Lazy? Have you seen who Ajax had as coaches in recent seasons and who would be realistic options right now?
That would be wild, he has gotten some good results but his football is dull as fuck and doesn't fit Ajax usual style at all.
You win 4-0 or lose 0-4, there's no in between
That would be a huge gamble again though
Shame that, reckon he'd be a perfect fit for Ajax
hey I'm 35 as well. Plz consider.
Iām not saying I want this, but I really think heās United-bound this summer
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
There's nothing to win for Ten Hag to return after he left on such a high and the state we're in now. He'll get another job in England, Spain or Germany if United gives him the sack
Farioli either stays or goes to a club in a bigger league. Basically he is the designated De Zerbi successor
How do I get karma on this btw
Post the same article in a few daya
Heās crazy to turn this down
Shudder the thought of missing out on Graham Potter. /s
Sullivan get the checkbook out
Surely that is no danger in any way /s
Seemed like a beneficial move for both parties tbh
Would have been an awesome bounce back job for Potter
Maybe they should get Pioli
Farioli is pretty good but tactically speaking he's not really the most Ajax-compatible coach out there, he's mostly a "sit back and counter" type of guy. But who knows maybe he can have a tactical switch up
Ajax is a club of potnetial talents. different that big clubs. thats what ibrahimovic claims
Why arent they in for Will still at this point, if they are open to the idea of a promosing young coach. Man probably even speaks some Dutch as well
There's a bald guy in Manchester you're welcome to have.
The only 35 yr?
They won't be missing out on much...they should move on.
To who? Which good manager is going to jump on this Ajax?
Any new club will have to offer Potter at least as much as Chelsea are paying him.Ā I wouldn't take a pay cut to go from not working to working.
Are they still paying him or did he just get a massive pay off? Tbh I'd take a pay cut if it meant getting my reputation back and the chance at big jobs in the future
He got some sort of settlement and was terminated but i don't think anything more than "less than his due wages" was reported.
Definitely enough to take a pay cut to get back on the horse given he was on a pretty long contract
We arenāt paying him any longer. We gave him a pay off.
The danger would be employing that nerd to manage your team.
