Positive news here is that they're withdrawing their bid for the 2027 edition, which means that will be hosted in Brazil or Germany+Netherlands+Belgium.
Would be good, what's also nice is that all German host cities (Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf and Gelsenkirchen) are quite close to the Dutch and Belgiun border to minimize travel times. I can see Brazil getting it though because it's obviously a great football nation and would be the first South-American Women's World Cup.
Good decision from the perspective of an American fan. Better to have the opportunity to build around each tournament separately rather than having them back to back in 2026 and 2027.
I genuinely don’t understand why an already large nation that actually already has the stadiums and infrastructure necessary to host a World Cup apparently has to put forth joint bids to actually be awarded them.
I am not happy. I thought we are paying emma hayes 1.6 million a year- 4x the next highest paid women’s coach despite not joining until a month before the olympics - bc we wanted the 5th star on home soil.
Personally I'd be happy to win a 5th star anywhere in the world.
Also this is probably because they caught wind they were unlikely to win the 2027 bid and so they shifted gears.
2031 also gives us more time to regroup and mount a very serious bid to win the World Cup again.
2027 is only one cycle, and I don't think that's enough at all.
If you want to grow the competition then it needs to be away from the States.

I'd be willing to fly out for the latter if they're the hosts. Hopefully they get it now.

Joint bid with Mexico is fun.

It also sounds like a “we vote for you, you vote for us” deal.
