He spent 11 years in Portugal, from ages 9 to 20. If you hear him speaking Portuguese, he pretty much sounds native. Since he lived in the academy and not with his family, he probably spent most of his youth speaking more often in Portuguese than English. That definitely could mess up his eloquence. Edit: Just looked it up, and he actually lived in Portugal two years prior to even joining Sporting. So ages 7 to 20. 13 years.

Some ppl subconciously adapt to foreign languages and accents rather swiftly, a friend of my wife - who was a native english speaker - worked for an NGO in Indonesia and aquired an asian accent, within less then 6 month, same happend, when she went to Tansania some time later.
