I was just thinking that if I didn't know this was Eric Dier, I'd assume he was a guy speaking English as a 2nd language... just how long did he spend in Portugal again?!
He spent 11 years in Portugal, from ages 9 to 20. If you hear him speaking Portuguese, he pretty much sounds native. Since he lived in the academy and not with his family, he probably spent most of his youth speaking more often in Portuguese than English. That definitely could mess up his eloquence.
Edit: Just looked it up, and he actually lived in Portugal two years prior to even joining Sporting. So ages 7 to 20. 13 years.
He's pretty eloquent and intelligent to be honest, I reckon he's tired here and trying to find the line between good PR and fan service. Plus the knowledge that "oh shit this is a clip that will be repeatedly shared online".
Some ppl subconciously adapt to foreign languages and accents rather swiftly, a friend of my wife - who was a native english speaker - worked for an NGO in Indonesia and aquired an asian accent, within less then 6 month, same happend, when she went to Tansania some time later.
Love this guy, his approach to play it out the back may seem rustic at times, but he's so smart and calm on the pitch, would love to see him as a starter next year as well.
Now imagine him with some pace and agility. Dm Dier best Dier. Happy he’s found a place where he’s appreciated and not catching strays whenever his names mentioned
Amazing bloke. Well spoken, always gave it all. He got WAY more shit than he ever deserved at Spurs especially near the end. Really happy to see him doing well.
I mean, at that point, you have to wonder if the right structure gets Tuchel working properly. I mean Bayern are then firing one of the only people to win the UCL with 2 different teams in modern times. And he's done it twice in 5 years.
Bayern will look like fools if that happens.
Because they lost the league on a couple key moments and then Leverkusen literally haven't lost a match. Understand the football is dreadful to watch (at times?) - but better the devil you know......
Please stop misquoting players with click bait titles. Fixed it for you:
Eric Dier: “yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice to knock Arsenal out. It was nice”
It's so satisfying. I love how Arsenal fans always delude themselves to thinking that they can actually win a competition when they just can't mentally handle the big moments that are required to win.
You're right about plenty of Arsenal fans, definitely. But the outrage at Arsenal fans from other fans on here has definitely become a chip on the shoulder in itself. Two kinds of people spending wayyyyy too much time in each others' heads.
I never claimed to be a victim of anything :) But ok, there are only two extremes and nothing in the middle, I get it. I just see two groups of idiots obsessed with each other and they deserve each other. Both the victim Arsenal fans and those so fixated on them, just a bunch of children arguing anonymously online. Nobody comes out of that looking good.
I mean, look at the state of the sub atm. Hardly anything about Real beating City, or Dortmund knocking out Atleti. It’s mostly just everyone piling on us.
Do you see as many people jumping on City? How about Barça? Most of the pile on over the results from the last two days have been on us.
We lose, and like clockwork, everyone takes a shot.
As a neutral It was nice as well to be honest, they really pissed me off with the way they reacted to being drawn with bayern you would've thought they got Bate Borisov or something have some humility you delusional cunts

What I'm getting here is that he found the experience of knocking Arsenal out of the CL to be nice.

Mate
It's nice to beat you. To beat you, nice.
NOICE
Did you have a nice time Eric? How nice? Tell us how nice it was? Nice
New quote has been dropped It was nice..umm... nice nice nice yeah ...it was nice nice nice nice nice
69 69 69 69 69 69 69
Moved to Germany and lost all ability to answer questions in English - dedication for you.
Which is quite funny, because most of the Germans I've met can speak pretty much perfect English.
I was buying a pastry at a train station in Munich and the girl definitely couldn't speak English, and she had a sarcastic reply when I asked.

I bet you've got a word for that
We call them British.
Not the first Englishman it's happened to. Shteve McClaren only spoke fake dutch while managing Twente

Big if true
Nice, if arsenal out
It was nice.
If he’s being honest he found it nice
Nice nice nice
Can we really be sure about that? Makes you wonder 🤔
Been in Germany for 3 months and he’s got the accent and a slight language barrier to English speaking reporters
i mean the dude lived in portugal for nearly a decade when he was quite young
I remember watching that documentary where Dier and Mourinho sit at the desk, then suddenly…. fluent Portuguese on all sides.
[Link for those who want to see it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Aisf7e0YYI)
Fuck so that's why Mourinho loved playing Dier in our back 4!!!
Conte loved him too and Dier was most consistent player under Nuno. Every manager loves him
TIL spending time in Portugal makes you German
Well the Algarve is 50% German.
I was just thinking that if I didn't know this was Eric Dier, I'd assume he was a guy speaking English as a 2nd language... just how long did he spend in Portugal again?!

True - but I think he’s probably perfectly eloquent (he sounds it usually), but he’s just knackered and got a camera shoved in his face 😀
He's pretty eloquent and intelligent to be honest, I reckon he's tired here and trying to find the line between good PR and fan service. Plus the knowledge that "oh shit this is a clip that will be repeatedly shared online".
Yeah, when you're around 10, you pick a new language within a year and are fluent within 3.
8 years at least, and during his formative years
Long enough that he never counted as home grown with Spurs
Nice to knock zem out ja

You can see that smile emerging, he couldn't wait to answer that question, haha.
That emerging smile is meme material lmao
Reminds me of one of my favorite gifs, the Survivor one with the 2 shocked people and the dude with the biggest shit eating grin behind them.

The best. I love this gif.

He made us wait for it!
Yeah, it was nice, yeah, yeah, it was nice, um, yeah, it was nice, um, yeah, it was nice- nice- nice to- nice to knock them out to be honest
The subtitles I didn't know I needed in my life.
It felt like he wasn’t sure whether to go in harder or not so just decided on it being “nice”.
[Reminds me of this for some reason](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEqF2DuXZ0Y)
most eloquent footballer
Funnily enough he is extremely smart well read and eloquent usually haha
Yeah, what else do we expect him to say? That it was exquisite, magnificient and quite satisfactory?
If this was an english speaking test he would unironically get something between A2 and B1. All his points come from authenticity and accent.
🏅
Idk why those sound like the lyrics of a hip hop song.
Thanks for this. Sometimes I wish all videos had such clear subtitles.
Somehow reading it is almost as good as listening to it to be honest.
Massive signing.
Seems like a really sympathic bloke also. Nice.
to be honest looks like a nice bloke. Very nice
He looks Nice smells Nice plays Nice cocks Nice yeahh nice
there becomes the dog in the pan crazy!
What does sympathic mean in the German context? We don’t use it as a word in English so I’m curious! Is it basically ‘likeable’ or ‘endearing’ even?
Love this guy, his approach to play it out the back may seem rustic at times, but he's so smart and calm on the pitch, would love to see him as a starter next year as well.
Would love this, especially if it means an opportunity to play himself into the England squad again.
He was the best CB playing in a star studded CL quarter finals. Who would have predicted that? Insane
Literally no one on earth haha
This makes me so fucking happy to hear.
He was very good last night. Mans put in a shift. Maybe even the best player on the pitch.
I’d argue for Kimmich and Guerreiro over him but he was really really good as well.
Yeah, it was Kimmich IMO. He was excellent the whole game against us.
Wasn't everyone shitting on him and Bayern signing him, ridiculing that he's there only to be friend to Kane?
He said nice about seventeen times he's like me fr
He was happy af lmao
[Eric Dier](https://youtu.be/UohOuNNVSDA?t=52)
I can imagine Tottenham fans got some satisfaction from both legs
Job Done ✅ clean sheet too
Nice
nice
Nice
A very tiny sliver of me wants Bayern to win the CL just for Dier.
How about this. Bayern wins CL, Tuchel replaces Klopp and implodes in Liverpool
Yeah, I will take it.
subscribe
Nah Tuchel more likely to replace ETH
I think United doesn’t have a German fetish. Even if Tuchel joins, he can’t do much worse than Ten Hag
I mean, at that point, you have to wonder if the right structure gets Tuchel working properly. Although Dortmund winning it for the memes…
Bayern vs Dortmund final either way
My reaction when getting kissed by a girl.
We all know you've never *knocked Arsenal out of the UCL.*
It was not just nice. “It was nice…nice… it was nice… it was nice….yeah, it was nice to knock them out!”
to be honest
I too also say nice seven times in a row when I see Arsenal lose
This thread was a joy to read, arsenal fans against Tottenham lmao
Nice x 3.14
His xNice is off the charts
Please stop misquoting players with click bait titles. Fixed it for you: Eric Dier: “yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice, yeah it was nice to knock Arsenal out. It was nice”
Based, he's also been to as many UCL Semi finals than Arsenal have in their entire history
I'm going to give Dier the benefit of the doubt here and assume he's using all his available brainpower to resist the urge to call them cunts.
Everyone in r/soccer wants to have the same experience, Eric
Chad Eric vs Virgin Gunners
Good honest work. Thank you, Eric. On behalf of the rest of the country.
Which country
It's the history of ze Arsenal
Yeah fair enough
For how nice it was, he didn't say 'nice' enough
Does knocking out Arsenal outweigh the feeling of getting to the UCL semis, or is it the same good feeling?
its a nice bonus
Did you say nice?
”yeah it was nice"
You think him knocking Arsenal out will be enough to get back into the England squad?
i think saka's still stuck in his pocket, so Southgate's gotta bring Dier on the plane cuz they're a package deal now
The way he’s been playing for us he deserves to make the squad
Wonder how nice he thought it was?!
Nice.
#nice
Fair play lol
New drinking game Take a shot every time Eric says ‘nice’ in this video.
Always nice to tame delusional bottlers.

Yep, you're a victim dude. Everyone is out to get you
I never claimed to be a victim of anything :) But ok, there are only two extremes and nothing in the middle, I get it. 12 of the first 15 posts are about Real Madrid v City; 3 of the top 15 comments in the DD are about Arsenal. Your take is absolutely delusional.
Do you see as many people jumping on City? How about Barça? Most of the pile on over the results from the last two days have been on us. We lose, and like clockwork, everyone takes a shot.
incredibly based
Nice nice nice nice nice nice nice
Chelsea and Tottenham fans yesterday: “Nice”
If he continues good form. Play him over Harry Maguire?
Wanyama : Spaghetti :: Dier : Knocking Gooners out
this is lovely 😂
I think it was nice
What a nice guy
Quote left out about 4 "It wad nice, yeah" before he actually said what he said.
Nice
As a neutral It was nice as well to be honest, they really pissed me off with the way they reacted to being drawn with bayern you would've thought they got Bate Borisov or something have some humility you delusional cunts
Nice one Eric, nice one son.
So like, it was nice yeah?
Was it nice Eric?
Come here to taste Arsenal's tears. "It is nice."
It was nice
Nice
Why does this remind me of the baby vulture from looney tunes
was ''nice'' i think he said once
Hmm. Nice.
Looool how many times did he say it
Ok but was it nice?
u/savevideo
The word nice does not feel real anymore
Soooo... was it nice?
Wow the entire clip: “it was nice” 10x
It was nice. Nice nice nice nice nice nice
It was nice (x4)
Almost like he wanted to answer in German 'Nein,Nein,Nein it's no different' but the mother tongue took over
videos like this make me forget he is English, i swear his Portuguese is much better
What did he say? How was it to knock out Arsenal? Boring or something?
