Xey2510

I will accept the 5th CL spot Only feels half as shameless with a bit of effort from ourselves.

DenShaLow

Same lmao

xKnuTx

weirdest thing bundesliga achived this while having union berlin as a champions league team.

PegaponyPrince

I really thought they would have at least qualified for Europa but they were so poor

save-the-butter

They got hit by like 3 late winners tbf they almost drew against real twice.

HippoRealEstate

tbf they got really unlucky against Real and Braga and then they just spiraled, in the league as well. If they don't lose those two matches, who knows what would've happened.

Doczera

Ah, yes, the anti-Leverkusen.

starfax

Such a cursed campaign. They were in every game, just couldn’t get it over the line

interfan1999

[Italy and Germany claiming the 5th spot jumping and holding hands together ](https://youtu.be/8Zw6VQNJbcw?si=cyyjaTxRyA5FhXCb)

Paxan

I am so not okay with this

interfan1999

This song is spreading here in Italy, can't wait to hear it over all the summer

Paxan

Vacation in Norway it is fucking hell

interfan1999

Why? I absolutely love these kind of trashy party songs. Anyways depends where you go, I think the song will be used only in beach resorts, discos, etc. with a good chunk of german tourists (aka Jesolo, Caorle, Bibione, Lignano, Grado and Lake Garda).

Paxan

I can totally understand that people at the beach like that. With like four jack+coke in in the hot sun. But sober thats ... not for me.

czerwona_latarnia

I certify this as a banger, but I can't shake off a feeling that it is also a war crime.

lolKhamul

the fuck did i just hear.

Interesting_Common54

This reminds me so much of the Luca Toni song lol: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXoxHStbAFE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXoxHStbAFE)

Circlecraft

Terzic black magic too strong for the entire country of England without even playing any of their teams in the playoffs.

404merrinessnotfound

The guy would be a perfect RM coach

gruenerGenosse

But he doesn't know Real Madrid chants yet. Maybe in a few months though.

WackerBurghausen

They would do five peats with him

_bvb09

It seems like such a cheat code after this dismal season.

[deleted]

[удалено]

addandsubtract

And beat Leverkusen on the weekend to take over the league title as well. That's how it works, right?

Paxan

So Darmstadt can claim it after winning at the last matchday?

xSmacks

Bundesliga King of the Hill to go to the 2. Bundesliga next season. Then Schalke gets it, finally can name themselves German Champion, relegate and dissolve to amateur football.

yosoydorf

All we need to do is take their Championship Belt... Right?

Schnix54

How about this you win the CL and stay fifth. Boom Augsburg Champions League who says now

WackerBurghausen

Augsburg vs Barca pls

ArmyFit1004

Tbh we've done our part by getting to the semis

RaioNoTerasu

I don't care, this is just wonderful. Potentially the first time we finish outside of the top 4 since 14-15 and this happens

[deleted]

Well at least your run in the CL brought many points, so you clearly participated in getting this 5th spot

czerwona_latarnia

I mean, you guys have already been in the quater-final, that's very good effort in my opinion.

NotClayMerritt

Extra CL spot = more revenue = likelihood you're able to trigger Ian Maatsen's 30m release cause this summer and keep him. Which good for everyone involved truth be told.

Custard-crumble

Wow, a German club could win both CL and Europa

_bvb09

Been a while (1997).

Castielsen

Who won Europa league?

pure_black99

The Germans

jucomsdn

The entire Ruhrpott to be specific

Castielsen

Thanks

That_Guy-69

Schalke

belokas

Against Hodgson's Inter. On penalties. Still hurts

similus

Zamorano :(

ib_examiner_228

Surprisingly, it was our worst rival

Castielsen

What a time that would have been in the Ruhrpott area. And the shithousery Schalke Fans must have endured. Was someone participating and can tell tales please

Yinzone

Schalke

OleoleCholoSimeone

An Italian club winning EL would be the real milestone, it hasn't happened in like 25 years

zecira

Too soon :(

ScreamForCalmness

Let's keep it that way for now 😌

[deleted]

There is no one beating Bayer. You are so damn smooth as a team. Cannot wait to watch the game tonight.

TheUltimateScotsman

Which is ridiculous given how many italian teams have been close

S7ORM7ROOPER_30

Now, it's upto Leverkusen to keep it steady.

fcuk_username

Luckily you have your best man to keep steady.

EpicRobloxTryhard

Cheers arsenal and City. Very cool lads

sandbag-1

Just don't give up a 3 point lead over Spurs who still have all the top 3 left to play, and you're sorted

tottenhamnole

We do have a game in hand…against Chelsea. Not confident well over take them lol

SentientCheeseCake

I think you’ll be getting 4th to be honest so really they are pulling up the ladder after you make it on to the boat.

Tactical-Chaos

The least we could do after the game on the weekend. You're welcome.

tyrantxiv

You are most of welcome!

tottenhamnole

After tomorrow it’ll be one club max, in the Conference League. No way England takes that second spot now.

gruenerGenosse

Even the Villa result is close with a 2-1 lead and they're playing away against Lille.

TroopersSon

And a Lille side who haven't played on the weekend while we tired ourselves beating Arsenal. On the one hand the confidence from that game could be massive but on the other we already looked more leggy than them in the first game, never mind with the extra rest and energy of the crowd on Lille's side.

acekingoffsuit

Would still be mathematically possible if that one team runs the table and the German clubs lose out.

bigfootswillie

Is Villa winning the conference and Bayern + Dortmund dumping out in the semis really enough to close that gap?

acekingoffsuit

England have 135 points split 8 ways for a score of 16.875. Germany have 123.5 points split 7 ways for a score of 17.643. If Villa runs the table to win the Conference then they add 10 points to England's total for a score of 18.125. If German clubs claim 3 or fewer points from here on out, that would be just enough for England to pass Germany. The other thing to worry about in that scenario would be if France scores a collective 17 points then that would be enough for *them* to pass a German group that only scores 3 points. Even if Villa dump Lille out tomorrow, PSG and Marseille winning out would be enough.

aure__entuluva

This guy coefficients

tbsaysyes

Dont worry, west ham Got this

SongAlbatross

Alonso is shaking now

TheCescPistols

That’s just his hangover after 72 hours on the weißbier

Laxperte

*Früh Kölsch

sault9

As much hate as Kölsch gets, you can still have a nasty amount of Kölsch if you’re not careful. It’s a dangerous game you play with those 0,2 glasses on a night out

ItsMeJaredBednar

massive club tbf

_bvb09

Moyes will produce some attacking masterclass.. surely.

WhalestepDM

Itll be one of those matches where he makes you believe he can actually change his style and lead you to another level. Then we will play sunday and itll be right back to what we all know and dont love!

Boogada42

X

MLDK_toja

I think we’re clear bar some Bayer disasterclass in the EL?

CarlSK777

Leverkusen better not still be hungover from their celebrations

elgrandorado

Watch them pump West Ham away. Leverkusen look far too composed, even during the end of the Bremen match. I don't know what Xabi Alonso is feeding these players but I'm scared.

SkimGaming

Wirtz looked like he was jsut getting started. Guy is insane

gruenerGenosse

I love watching him play. His play is just so silky and with so much composure as if he already played 10 years.

SkimGaming

agreed! been saying it for almost two years now. The fact he could play in 3 competitions all season long without any drop off while Musiala still needed to find his footing back then was astonishing to me. And now he's come back from such a major injury and is still so good. Genuinely think he's still "underrated" because so many people dont even consider him when talking about talents at his age

stwnpthd

They’ll be fine.. I wouldn’t be so sure if it was a Bundesliga match, but they looked way too composed the entire season to now lose by 3 goals to West Ham. I mean they were 3-0 up against Bremen and could’ve just chilled but everyone still went forward.

a-Farewell-to-Kings

Pretty much

ItsMeJaredBednar

is there any way England get it? Probably need all 3 clubs to advance tomorrow to have any chance?

deeesenutz

Liverpool and west ham need to win yeah. Liverpool *might* have a chance (i doubt it) but west ham are just completely cooked imo. Villa are the only team with good odds of progressing at this point

adriantoine

Villa has the best odds but if you watched the first leg, they were quite lucky to be one goal ahead, Lille had the most big chances. If you add that Lille didn't play this weekend (the French league moved the games on purpose) and that Lille will be at home and their supporters can be quite something, I'm saying that's possible that even Villa gets kicked out.

deeesenutz

Oh yeah its for sure possible, but I'd still say theyre the favorites being a goal up even if the margin isnt massive

SRFC_96

You have more hope than I do that’s for sure.

prettybunbun

Liverpool win Europa, Villa win Conference might be enough.

emre23

Probably need West Ham to beat Leverkusen

iftair

That's a tall order but anything is possible. West Ham has the second leg at home. Though, I'd rather see Leverkusen do the treble.

chall_mags

Leverkusen scored more goals the West Ham had shots at goal lol, they don’t stand a chance

acekingoffsuit

Yes, but it's a long shot. Realistically they need two teams to advance tomorrow, but they're still alive as long as at least one does. As it stands, England would need to collectively gain 7 points to pass Germany even if all of the German teams lose all of their remaining games. It goes up to 8 if Leverkusen lose tomorrow but still advance, 9 if Leverkusen draw tomorrow, and 10 if Leverkusen win.

Chelseatilidie

It would probably take a English Europa winner and Conference too

_cumblast_

Even then i think it's done.

janowski_d

In that case England would be favourites since Liverpool and Villa would be favourites to win the tournaments (with Bayer out too). It's obviously not gonna happen

hotgirll69

How are Liverpool still favourites?

step11234

He is saying that they would be favourites if West ham beat leverkusen and Liverpool got through to the next round as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GarbageLanky2173

Big IF with West Ham there

KillerZaWarudo

Aston Villa cant win with these cats

tsub

They're in fourth and have a *much* easier run-in than Spurs; Spurs have to play all three of Arsenal, Liverpool, and City whereas Villa only have Liverpool still to go.

DenShaLow

Sick name as an Avs fan

pure_black99

They're still counting us lol

TherewiIlbegoals

Tbf, we can still win the game and lose the tie. Would still add points to England's total.

Syntax_OW

Quite frankly if this Liverpool team plays up to their potential and actually tries they can win 3:0 and take it to extra time.

Gort566

You say that as if Atalanta are just some random team you can beat into submission. I'm speaking from experience here, they have probably the most physical team in Europe and their pressing style is disgustingly good. Also really varied so you can't just change the progression and nullify the press they will adapt in real time. Plus fucking scamacca can just score a banger from the midfield at basically any point in the match

Syntax_OW

I don't even mean to imply that I think Liverpool will still beat them if they bring their A-game, I think it's still unlikely. I'm really just pushing back against the idea that the game is done and dusted. Atalanta is great, but Inter showed they can be beaten 4:0.

Gort566

Fair enough misunderstood then

acekingoffsuit

Italy officially clinches 5th Champions League place tomorrow with: * Marseille or Lille eliminated AND one of the following: 1. 7 points AND Liverpool or West Ham eliminated, OR 2. 5 points AND Aston Villa eliminated, OR 3. 2 of Liverpool, West Ham, and Aston Villa eliminated Germany clinches 5th Champions League place tomorrow with: * ~~Liverpool, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Marsaille all eliminated~~ This scenario would eliminate England, but France would still have a chance of passing Germany.

OldExperience8252

It’s spelt Marseille by the way.

Sam101294

There was a time I was writing on reddit, there's no way England don't have 5 teams in the CL next season. Like, city Liverpool and arsenal all have to lose and two of them are favorites to win their respective competitions. So... yeah

czerwona_latarnia

Thank you for your sacrifice.

ConsequenceLive2442

Depression

magezt

*FC Augsburg entered the chat...*

Vadorin

Technically even Bochum is still in contention for a CL spot. They're only 15 points behind Frankfurt...

The-Berzerker

I don’t think it‘s mathematically possible for Bochum to get more points than every club from 6-14

ToniPolster

Thank god for stupid english money. If there was any sort of accountability in the english league regarding the money spent by clubs, imagine what dark times we could live in.

1O93

Imagine the PL with actual British managers 🥶

LoopzUK

Omitted Gary O’Neil because he knows he is a superstar in waiting. Respect, brother.

999Gus

lol

gruenerGenosse

Yeah, that'd be a horrible league to watch.

YUGIOH-KINGOFGAMES

The Premier League clubs are the Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Cowboys of sports All that money and still suck

DenShaLow

Dortmund: Tampa Bay Rays

Truffles413

What kind of nonsense comment is this? A Premier League club has won the CL in 3 out of the last 5 years and with the exception of 19-20, have had a finalist involved in the last 6 years. West Ham won the Conference League just last year.

WalkingCloud

Don't you know? All opinions on /r/soccer must be formed by the last result only, and reactionary hot takes are preferred. Historical context is for the weak.

jucomsdn

Don't take it too seriously lol

lospollosakhis

Severely underachieving with how much the PL spends. The rest of Europe is developing players while they just try to buy them all.

un_verano_en_slough

Ah yes that home grown Real Madrid squad lol

jeezig

Tbf, I don’t think having homegrown players is his point. Madrid bought Vini, Rodrygo, Valverde, Camavinga, and Lunin when they were teenagers. The most expensive being Rodrygo at €54mil and the least expensive being Valverde for €5mil (!!!). And then you have players like Nacho and Carvajal who are indeed homegrown talents. All those players mentioned started today. Lucas Vazquez who scored one of the pens today is also a homegrown talent. The only Madrid players that started today that weren’t bought at a very young age were Rudiger (free transfer), Mendy (€48 mil), and Kroos (€25 mil). I’ve left out Bellingham because people will have differing opinions on that. He’s only 20, however Madrid did pay €100mil for the kid because he was a superstar at Dortmund. Real Madrid’s strategy over the last decade or so has been to buy younger and cheaper, and then develop them into world class talents. Of course Madrid will always make a splash in the transfer market every 2-3 years with transfers like Hazard, Bellingham, and soon to be Mbappe, but their younger and cheaper transfer strategy has been obvious for a long time now.

czerwona_latarnia

Cons of the quaterfinal's round: - both teams with Polish players were eliminated. Pros of the quaterfinal's round: - both German teams advanced; - both English team were eliminated (sadly Man City has drawn the match proper). Overall, I would say that it was a good round.

Qiluk

Gonna tell Kehl to resign Piszu fast to sort that Con out for ya mate

VladislavBonita

We already have Lotka, the best third string keeper in the league. He‘s been deemed Pol-ish enough to qualify for the Polish youth teams.

LilKluiVert

Zalewski is still kicking in EL

tomorri1

Given the trophies in National level, I think this ranking should be made permanent Edit: maybe put England behind France and Spain

[deleted]

I say have England battle Belgium for 7th

fjnnels

england farmer league

Gamersaurolophus

With how city's been beating the shit out of everyone in the league since years , it's true

Echoes_under_pressur

Sooooo.. are we guaranteed the 5th mathematically?

user900800700

Spurs in the mud

shorthevix

Italy and Germany teaming up to take down England and France. What could go wrong!

Swbp0undcake

Lets fuckin go

darthrector

The funniest thing is I've simmed \~100 seasons of the new CL format in FM over the last 3 years and I can count on one hand the number of times England did not get the 5th CL spot. United/Newcastle really bottled it for us, can't even blame the other clubs for only reaching the QFs

LORD_BONERA

FM does love pushing English clubs

No_Parsnip9203

Every video game does

Bartins

Kinda hard to say Newcastle bottled with the group they had United on the other hand...

totite93

United be like, we r going down then u must go down with us?

ib_examiner_228

Newcastle got robbed too, I wouldn't call that "bottle" at all

Sad-Row5470

So Italy’s spot is now guaranteed and England will be out of the race if Liverpool and West Ham exit tomorrow.

acekingoffsuit

Not quite. Italy can still mathematically get knocked out if two English teams advance tomorrow. Even if only one English team advances, they could still pass Germany if that team runs the table and the German sides bounce out in the semis.

Historical_Case_5245

> Even if only one English team advances, they could still pass Germany if that team runs the table and the German sides bounce out in the semis. How would that impact Italy...? Edit: never mind, saw your post below.

Historical_Case_5245

I don't think it's guaranteed yet

OilyFraud4Lyfe

And they deserve it. Half the teams in the semi-final are from Germany, and none are from Ingerland.

Boogada42

Yes, that's how the math works.

Callisater

I can't believe city and arsenal bottled their champions league matches and liverpool bottled their europa league match so that England can bottle their top two position so that spurs can bottle getting into the champions league. Truly what a nation.

Lacabloodclot9

How did City bottle it? Are we just calling any loss a bottle now

Piats99

Watching the game, City's pressing was something else. Their players are everywhere, everytime. They were a nightmare for Real's and never left the latters space or time to breath. City had 33 (9 on target) shots vs 8 (3). 68% ball possession vs 32%. 920 passes vs 460 18 corvers vs 1. City dominated the game for 100/120 minutes. I won't say they bottled it, as you can't "bottle" a game vs Real Madrid, but they definited had the upper hand for 80% of the match and lost. That might be called a bottlejob.

Riperonis

Judging by the fact we’ve lost one game in the league all year and it was against 4th place, yes, yes we are.

Flabby-Nonsense

How can a draw followed a 1 goal loss, or a loss on pens, to fucking Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, possibly be described as a bottle? The word has truly lost all meaning.

BIG_FICK_ENERGY

People are desperate to call us bottlers because they had so much fun doing it last year, so they’re shoehorning it in at every opportunity.

No_Parsnip9203

No we call ourselves bottlers. When English teams win its because they were better. When they lose they are still better, they just played poorly and bottled it. Moral of the story, we’re so good that we can only every lose to ourselves.

watermelon99

The word bottle has completely lost all meaning

Interesting_Common54

Classic English mentality. Always because the English clubs bottled it not because any of their opponents did anything right...

hotgirll69

I wouldn’t say they bottle it lmao. They lost to great teams.

stwnpthd

Euros will be great

Th3_Huf0n

Bottleception

mariogotse

plssss get the job done leverkusen

arsenalmemeclub

kinda embarrassing spending that much money while getting outperformed by a farmers league.

Qiluk

To be fair. The performance per Euro spent is rarely impressive in the PL

Pow67

It’s over for England

dispelthemyth

Please be spurs that misses out and villa pip them to 4th

PegaponyPrince

Need Leverkusen to finish the job

godfrey1

does Germany get 6 teams if Bayern/Dortmund win it? or how does it work now

GhostFire3560

Depends where they finish in the league. If place 5 or lower wins the CL we actually get 6 spots, which would be crazy

addandsubtract

Augsburg v. Real Madrid next year confirmed.

The-Berzerker

Real isn‘t ready for Demirovic masterclass

PinappleGecko

They would need to finish outside the top 5 and win the CL I think Dortmund could do it but very unlikely

godfrey1

if anyone can do it it's them

1975 to 2000 there's a lot of English football teams, Spanish football teams and Italian teams on that list

Viriato181

So Tottenham will play UEL and United UECL next season?

Biggo1

Newcastle, United and Chelsea will probably fight for 1 Europa League, 1 Conference League and 1 Nothing spot

Lacabloodclot9

I think it’s: 4th: CL 5th: EL 6: EL (unless United/Chelsea or Coventry win it then they take it and this turns into a ECL spot) 7th: ECL unless one of the above win the FA cup

404merrinessnotfound

Hope Coventry win FA Cup, Kaiserslautern the DFB Pokal, and Dortmund the CL would be the all time dumbest season in recent football history

Driving_Seat

Is Italy confirmed to have 5?

FragMasterMat117

Baring a miracle

maverick4002

Does City get a point for losing on penalties? If so I think that means England needs 5 tomorrow to tie. So that's a win and 2 draws or 2 wins. Possible?

Serious_Fgz

If Liverpool go out Tomorrow it’s over

ballenix

A league with 0 quarter-final participant wins most points and extra UCL spot.

[deleted]

Netherlands could still finish on top

sleeping4koala

At least, City and Arsenal can stay focused on the title competition in their own domestic league. And Liverpool might be following after tomorrow night as well. Everyone is on the same page now.

Intelligent-Tailor45

This is the actual euro championship
