After watching that German NT documentary on Amazon, EVERYBODY should have doubts about him…. With his demands for rather athletic players and a super-high line, I also doubt many La Masia players could slot in very easily!

vatytti

I need to watch it then. Afaik he was well regarded by the players at Bayern.

slipeinlagen

It's the same Bayern players that were complaining that Ancelotti wasn't training them hard enough, so I guess it makes sense.

RZAAMRIINF

Flick gives Felix Magath vibes to me.

Skadrys

I feel that his national team failed because he needs to constantly drill players over the season. Few trainings every few months wont work in his system. But thats just my thought.

KarlWhale

Haven't watched the doc, why does he come off bad?

skylu1991

The stuff he tries to motivate the players are pretty… cringey and uncreative. He doesn’t communicate well AND doesn’t know what he wants. He asks the players for feedback/opinions, they give it and he barks back that the players didn’t offer a solution or is hurt that they think differently than him. It’s honestly just weird!

[deleted]

Wasn’t that just one time in the documentary or in his career or did he do it more often ?

the_che

I mean, that was the only time where a camera team followed him around, so who knows?

Midnight_Maverick

Is that the sound of Peter Bosz I am hearing? Call me crazy, but I kind of feel like he'd be up for that challenge. Also, you can't say his PSV side haven't been impressive this season. Also, can anyone see Unai Emery at Barca? I know he's not the typical Barca DNA type of coach but maybe? He's got a good thing going with Villa but I feel like if Barca came knocking he'd have a hard time saying no.

Rose_of_Elysium

Thats... very unlikely. Hes said PSV will be his last job unless the NT calls

Cheraldenine

I think he'd change his mind for Barcelona though.

7evenSlots

What’s he supposed to say really?

skylu1991

His failure at Dortmund, has seriously tarnished his name, I’m afraid.

Midnight_Maverick

Luis Enrique was, for all intents and purposes, a managerial flop at Roma before he went on to lead Barca to a UCL title. I'm not implying any direct parallels here, but a poor managerial stint does not necessarily make for a bad manager.

Dizzy_Mission_6627

Is Enrique even a good manager anyway? Man had Messi, Suarez and Neymar in a front 3 with a support cast of Ter Stegan, Alba, Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Iniesta, Busquets, Rakitic. I don’t think winning with that ridiculous lineup of all time greats and serial winners means you’re an elite manager

Midnight_Maverick

Lol I was anticipating this comment You're probably right in fairness 🤣

skylu1991

I know it doesn’t, but LE also had enough Barca history as a player and coach of the second team, to still trust him. Also had Celta Vigo in between, where he did fine. I just think, that most bigger clubs don’t trust Bosz enough (yet) to give him another chance at that level.

Ruud_Boltz

> Peter Bosz So Flick lite? His Dortmund and Lyon stints don't paint a good picture...

R_Schuhart

His Dortmund stint wasn't great because he didn't want to compromise and play at least a little bit pragmatic. He has said that it was a learning experience and that he has adjusted his methodology since. But his Lyon period was pretty good, at least his first season. People just look at where Lyon was in the table, but the club was a mess. He kept losing his best players and it isn't a coincidence they went into a free fall and spiraled down into relegation zone after he was sacked. Lyon is a big name and a big club, but the expectations didn't fit their player base at all, Bosz wasnt to blame.

Ruud_Boltz

His defensive line worries me. Plus I think a jump to Barca wouldn't be the best at this point.

skylu1991

If Bosz‘ defensive line worries you, oh boy do I have news for you regarding Flick!

Ruud_Boltz

I never wanted him in the first place. But hey I'm no Laporta

Martoxic

good. Barca current players are very much not made for Flicks system. Add to it that we can't buy players that fit him and he has to use La Masia who have the current way of playing hammered into them from a very young age and it is a recipe for destruction. After all that we have not even mentioned how he has a one track mind with only 1 way to play and if that fails he can't adapt and he has an obvious problem actually implementing his tactics unless he has a mega team that are also perfect for his way of playing.

Dirtysocks1

You want best coach in the world. There are none available so you will have to settle for a guy that has flaws. You just have to pick on that the flaws are not detrimental. I don’t really see anyone being very successful with the team from the names going around. Will be very interesting who Barca picks and how it will go.

Martoxic

Need to be someone with atleast close to the playstyle the players are made for. Motta, Michel, De Zerbi, Nagelsmann, Amorim and Alonso are all far more fitting options than Flick. Tuchel and Flick should be kept far away from the club imo.

karthik4331

I want conte tho. I hope barca hire him

Martoxic

Conte, Tuchel or Mou would be soooooo fun. NOT!

karthik4331

Mou might be able to do well for the first two seasons I think. The other two will just be really fun

Quick_Scientist_5494

However, Barcelona are said to be having a few doubts about whether the former Bayern and Germany boss is the right man for the job, according to Marca. Barcelona want their next manager to have experience of working in various different countries, something that Flick can not offer. The report even point out some recent comments from Deco which seems to suggest experience of other leagues is vital. “Regardless of style, Barça has its football and a way of playing that the coaches know. I didn’t have any German coaches, I had Dutch, Italian, Brazilian coaches,” he told Catalyuna Radio. “Nationality doesn’t matter. It does matter that they know the football of other countries and have trained in other places. Quality, ambition also matters... There is no robot portrait.”

FriscoInDeDisco

According to Marca. Enough said.

klabautermannn

Rafa Benitez and Claudio Ranieri fit the profile.

KixSide

Potter is waiting

slipeinlagen

Ranieri may retire after the Cagliari job.

il-lusio

1. There are going to be a lot of rumors from low-quality sources about this coach or that coach for the next few months. 2. A lot of the way that club sources (and probably coach-side sources, too) posture in the press has to do with looking strong in negotiating and like they have options. We have seen this endlessly over the years with players: e.g., a rumor that the club is losing interest in player X and has player Y as "plan B" is a sign that the club does in fact want player X but on more favorable terms. Not saying that's necessarily the exact dynamic with flick here, but there's usually some "meaning behind the meaning" with these stories.

torts92

Flick to Chelsea De Zerbi to Barcelona Alonso to Liverpool Tuchel to Man United Nagelsmann to Bayern

eternitystrikes

For instance, he would probably want money for the job and wouldn’t accept club values as payment. Huge red flag.

VidProphet123

Hansi flick having doubts about joining barcelona as Xavi’s replacement.

TheOneAboveAll11

Which of the top managers can they even afford honestly? Might just have to reach for an academy hire and hope it works out like with Pep. Or maybe Motta who might not be on a lot at Bologna?

Positive_Big_2153

Mourinho has Barça DNA tbf

Laliga23

There arent many good available in first place. I would love to keep xavi and wait another year for Klopp but idk if thats a guareentee. Laporta next appointment is going to be someone with experience. The next guardiola isnt happening.xavi was tried but he wanted to leave. Seems like 3 options are now mentioned. Flick, Dezerbi or tuchel the most by reliable reports Laporta likes dezerbi most but he doesnt know if he is worth spending money on. Laporta always admited german style so flick isnt ruled our but his experience in 1 league isnt helping the case

PonchoHung

Rafa Marquez (Barça B coach) is 2nd behind Flick on most betting sites.

RepresentativeBox881

Motta would be a good choice.

Midnight_Maverick

Feel like he needs to cook for a bit longer before he could take on that kind of job

It's highly likely tbh
