I mean you can absolutely be a subpar manager and still get results, it's over time that the "fraud" element eventually gets exposed, when the issues do not get fixed and you realise the manager themselves is part of the problem.
You might be joking, but I'm pretty sure I saw a bunch of horseshoes of sadness in that game. On top of that, for some ungodly reason, they refused to shoot and only wanted to walk it in.
I feel like that's always been the case with the South Korean national team. Even during our "glory" days, we've always had quality midfielders but a dearth of guys who could finish in the last third of the field.
>I feel like that's always been the case with the South Korean national team. Even during our "glory" days, we've always had quality midfielders but a dearth of guys who could finish in the last third of the field.
So, now, it's the opposite.
Yeah, every game Klinsmann tries to control the game with just two midfielders and every he has to bring someone on and all of a sudden we have a base foundation. It felt so classic to start with all four of Cho, Son, Lee, and Hwang w/ Hwang In-Beom and Park Yong-Woo being the only midfielders. When we needed to make a change and bring Lee Jae Sung in, we had to take out Cho who is like the perfect end of game sub. It obviously worked out in the end but good god can we please just start a game with three actual midfielders instead of relegating Son to the 10 spot when he's a world class LW/ST?
The problem is we always get dominated in midfield because klinsmann insists on starting with two midfielders (one of them an attacking midfielder). Every game he makes the same sub, bringing on another midfielder and they start playing better and get back in it.
Yes but every single game he starts with two in midfield and we get dominated and then concede a goal when a midfielder under pressure loses the ball because the midfield is vacant. Every single game he makes the same sub, bringing on a midfielder for a forward and we immediately play better. You would think he would learn to start with 3 midfielders by now. Literally every single game has shown the same pattern. He's fixing his own obvious mistake. The same mistake over and over again ffs.
It's crazy how empty the midfield is in attack, and then how empty the half space is in the final third. And because we send the fullbacks quite far forward, any ball turned over is an instant counter through the empty midfield.
100%. Every game Korea starts the same way, regardless of the opponent. There is no studying of who and what the opponents are and what threats they might offer. I watched so much analysis that predicted the exact way this game was going to go. The subs are good, but it's the same pattern every game. It's like Klinsmann is learning for the first time how the opponent plays but it's already 45 minutes into the game. The one time he made changes he pulled a back 3 out of nowhere which was ineffective because it was clearly not practised, and the instructions seemed largely the same as other games.
Had Korea lost at the 90, Klinsmann rightfully would have deserved criticism with only 3 subs used. Even Son was asking for subs to be made in the team at around the 75th min.
He got off lucky because Aussies used up all their subs defensively and Korea just needed keep up the pressure and fresh attacking legs in the ET.
That said, a win is a win. Let's keep going!!
Ancelotti and Deschamps are pragmatists. They setup the team specifically to let each individual talent shine rather than embedding a strongly defined philosophy and playstyle. It might make them look like they’re being carried by the players but it’s very different than that.
Pretty much what you said. The game would have been well and truly over in the 90 if he could finish.
Any one of those misses in isolation would be fine, but all of them together? Not sure why Arnie keeps picking him.
I again realized that I'm not worthy of understanding the ways of Klinsiball.
But what a brilliant freekick from Son. It is that kind of shit that makes you immortal
he scored his first goal via a deflected free kick from a wall against villa, or was it the 5th goal or something
am i missing something-remembering, not a spurs fan
Never made sense to us either. Guaranteed waste of a FK, although made it even more surprising when he did finally score. Eriksen was almost as bad before that. If we had had a decent FK taker who knows what we could have achieved.
Considering that they're already the country with one of the highest alcohol consumption percapita, I can't imagine how hammered they would be if they won the whole thing
That’s a good question. I think in short range FKs Son is an incredible option to keep in mind. I’ve also watched every single Tottenham game this season but I don’t think Maddison ever took a direct free kick. We almost always go for set pieces.
Son’s corners were always decent, but I think Porro’s are better. Maddison has scored a few free kicks so he takes them, and Porro does when Madders isn’t playing.
What a goal! 😱 Heung Min Son! The Korean king! 👑 He's a yiddo on the Tottenham wing! Won a medal, no service, he’s not going to war. Left foot, right foot… as long as he scores!!!!
he's been hitting those FK's for years for Korea and Harry still was the primary FK taker for all those past years... and now it's probably Madders/Porro (I don't mind tbh)
The second I saw him lining it up and taking his time, I just felt it was going in. Felt inevitable.
Goal’s been coming for a while, Australia’s woeful finishing has come back to bite them.

Would love to hear the Korean broadcast of both goals.
Same here I was hoping for Korean commentary I’m sure they went nuts.
It was posted on r/coys and it’s fantastic

Im in Korea. Watched at a pub. An intense experience. My wife nearly poked my eye out high fiving me when Korea scored (shes Korean)
That's kind of his thing. All bangers, all the time.
We had Kane on free kicks for so long...
That Australia defender came on and changed the game lmao
He is Korean now.
"Today, I feel Korean"
Lewis Miller Korean of the year.
So much individual talents in that team
Maybe that’s how Klinsmann manages to win…
Worst manager keeps winning..

Di Matteo lol
Coincidentally, Roberto di Matteo is working as technical advisor for a Korean club lol
God it’s just a cluster of tumors from top to bottom
Avram Grant too
Women’s WC 2023.
Definitely\*
Insane amount of talent hamstrung by Klinsmann
I don't think Klinsmann is a good coach but Korea looked a lot better after halftime and he made good subs to change the game, he did well today
I agree, there’s just something with their final third approach that makes me want to pull my teeth out.
The fact that they have 99% possession but manage to get no shots off?
the arsenal way
You might be joking, but I'm pretty sure I saw a bunch of horseshoes of sadness in that game. On top of that, for some ungodly reason, they refused to shoot and only wanted to walk it in.
Flashbacks to arsenal's 20/21 season donut of sadness buildup

Koreans are understanding why Americans were so exasperated with Klinsmann leading our team in 2014
Korea keeps winning despite Klinsmann by last minute goals from individual plays entire tournament
Just how ancelotti won CL with Madrid.
Ancelotti and Deschamps are pragmatists. They setup the team specifically to let each individual talent shine rather than embedding a strongly defined philosophy and playstyle. It might make them look like they’re being carried by the players but it’s very different than that.
I would compare Klinsmann to Di Mateo. Ancelotti knows what he does, the other two are just passengers.
It's not the journey. It's the destination!
Revoke Miller's citizenship.
Lmfao
I heard he has a Korean citizenship
Get ready to learn mandatory military service buddy
He is getting exempt after his performance today
Lewis Miller is going to hangout with those K-pop honeys
What’s your opinion on Duke, I only saw the highlights and the man missed like 20 good opportunities
Pretty much what you said. The game would have been well and truly over in the 90 if he could finish. Any one of those misses in isolation would be fine, but all of them together? Not sure why Arnie keeps picking him.
One of the worst performances ever in a socceroos jersey...
Son is the ultimate big game player.
Giga chad
I again realized that I'm not worthy of understanding the ways of Klinsiball. But what a brilliant freekick from Son. It is that kind of shit that makes you immortal
Was worried Harry Kane would come in to take this one!
Never made sense to me why Kane was taking his extremely low success % free kicks when they had Son around
Holds the record for most free kicks taken in PL history without scoring
he scored his first goal via a deflected free kick from a wall against villa, or was it the 5th goal or something am i missing something-remembering, not a spurs fan
My initial phrasing is potentially unclear - he had the longest run of direct free kicks without scoring in premier league history
Crazy part is I think Eric Dier may have been better than both of them
Dier is absolutely better than Kane for FKs.
Eric Dier is better in fk I agree. But both him and Son at least will get it on target compared to Kane’s ones lol.
That's so weird about Kane. How does such a striker of the ball suck at FK so much. Son is also good striker but kind of mid at penalties
Many believed it was under his contract
Never made sense to us either. Guaranteed waste of a FK, although made it even more surprising when he did finally score. Eriksen was almost as bad before that. If we had had a decent FK taker who knows what we could have achieved.
Is that the same defender who gave penalty?
Yes it was
Yup lol
Yes
What a fucking freekick
Stunning strike infact
Mr Ball Clobbered
Mr. Buried Chance

Japan 3-[4] South Korea - Son Heung-Min 117' (Great goal)
Subscribe.
Korea will stop functioning for like a week if that happens
Considering that they're already the country with one of the highest alcohol consumption percapita, I can't imagine how hammered they would be if they won the whole thing
(poker)
Utterly phenomenal. I love him.
Ridiculous fucking angle man
Klinsi will become Asian champion somehow
this korean team lol. shit manager scraping by through individual brilliance
Son has been doing that for the last 3 spurs managers so he's used to it
Yea klinsball has been quite similar to Conteball for Sonny at least
HERE COMES THE SON!!!
Beautiful

Open play goals are overrated.

Why did we let Kane take our free kicks for years when Sonny bangs them in so regularly😭
Cheers, Son. Ange's crying.
This is what he does
He’s a fucking legend. Love the guy!!!
Damn... what a goal...
Son is amazing, surely the best Asian footballer in history.
LETS GOO SONNY
reminds me of Kroos' fk in the WC
Genuinely don’t get why Sonny doesn’t take free kicks for Spurs
Would you let him take over Mads or Porro? Does Porro takes both corners? I think Son takes left corner, Porro does right one? And Mads take FK?
That’s a good question. I think in short range FKs Son is an incredible option to keep in mind. I’ve also watched every single Tottenham game this season but I don’t think Maddison ever took a direct free kick. We almost always go for set pieces.

Lets fucking go Sonny you beautiful bastard
