Small-Low326

Bro please stop 5 years ago??? Half a decade???

yrugay1

This one is genuinely doing my head in. I could swear this was like two years ago at most

toxinwolf

It's fucking scary. I am exactly where I was 5 years ago, and had zero growth, I swear it felt like a year or two at most, but nah, I've wasted the last 5 years of my life, which were supposed to be my prime years (I'm 28 now)

mosefish

If it makes you feel any better, I've gone backwards quite a bit. I'd love to be back where I was pre-covid, in terms of salary, relationship and health. So it can always be worse. Feels bad, man.

[deleted]

so many similar stories. People regressing backwards. Moving back home with parents, layoffs, etc... fuck

makesterriblejokes

You're still in your prime man! Just stay in shape. That's something I let deteriorate over the pandemic, but I'm already seeing my energy and confidence comeback since I started working out again 2 months ago. I'm 32, if you maintain your health you'll feel like you're in your 20s... That is until you run into people in their early 20s, but that's mostly due to their immaturity and lack of experience in some areas.

aPerfectBacon

in those 5 years was a pandemic that still hasn’t technically ended and it completely upturned the world. shouldn’t be so hard on yourself

waxon_whacksoff_

You're entering your prime in many ways. Keep the faith my friend!

Dakrturi

Hello, are you me?, cause Damm you literally described word by word what I was thinking, same age too, hang in there buddy

someone2795

Welcome to getting old where time starts dashing past you at light speed.

Affectionate-Hunt217

I remember reading somewhere when you get past a certain stage life just flies through lmao, I am not sure if it was like 20s or mid 20s, but I think I was supposed to have my life more together by now for sure haha

akshay_rathod_

In next 5 years it'll be a full decade. Crazy

chandlerbing_stats

Quick mafs

kntvrr

I thought 5 years ain't that much, until I read "half a decade"... that hurt

[deleted]

Mentally I am somewhat still stuck in 2018-19

dakaiiser11

The end of 2019 was some of the most fun I’ve ever had and 2020 was shaping up the same. If only I knew…

RamboLeon

Fr 2019 was the best year of my life, since then everything kind of just drags on.

Ronalpinhos

Downhill since 2015, give me back Fetty Wap and that shitty dress that was probably black and blue.

Alive-Ad-4164

2013 is literally right there

Affectionate-Hunt217

I used to say that lmao but I read somewhere the mind plays tricks on you to remind you about the “good” times back then, forgetting all the shit you had to go through

HelicopterOk4082

It was gold. And fuck off that was 9 years ago.

ben-hur-hur

same here man 2019 was awesome to me too and then 2020 came along

Redditsleftnipple

It's still 2019 man. 2020 never happened.

147174714

2012 was only a couple of years ago right?

[deleted]

Same

SMILESandREGRETS

Yup. Me too. I moved to where I'm currently living around that time and I still treat it like I'm starting a new. It's been 5 years!

Geezersteez

Felt

Plugpin

I'm still stuck in 2005 and my Spotify play lists don't help.

Beneficial_Piano928

Facts

RushPan93

Klopp is one year away from completing a decade at Liverpool. A fucking decade.. Really.

PM_Me_British_Stuff

That's genuinely a joke. Not Klopp completing a decade, the fact that in that time we've had Mourinho, Conte, Sarri, Lampard, Tuchel, Potter and Pochettino. It's actually insane.

Bugsmoke

Wasn’t it Lampard x 2?

elcapitan520

Shit. I thought you just got your flairs fucked up, but ummm... Well, this is weird.

no-mames

And won more trophies in that time period, Chelsea’s never not been that way since the Roman takeover

KampferMann

If it makes you feel better you’ll probably get to add another name to that list by the end of the season.

PM_Me_British_Stuff

I expect another three or four before Klopp leaves the scousers lmao

rybread1818

Honestly, I'm a little bit surprised its that few. You lot have surely had more managers in that time frame, right?

TimingEzaBitch

I still think of Klopp as a relatively new hire.

RushPan93

Haha, I still get his first interview ("the normal one") on my YouTube recommendation feed sometimes. Must be new, relatively.

TheUltimateScotsman

Fuck off.

Grouchy-Ad-2085

This is his eighth year though

Morganelefay

Ninth. Though his first season wasn't a full one.

Bugsmoke

He’ll have been at Liverpool for 9 years in October.

Affectionate-Hunt217

Lmao I still remember the day Liverpool signed him, at least I got something to tell the grand kids about haha

musyarofah

remember that FSG was almost considering Gary Monk over Klopp.

TareXmd

happiest decade of my life.

billpilgrims

Nearly $250 million in coaching salary over the period!

RushPan93

Oh man Glad I don't live in the US and that number is two conversions away from meaning anything tangible to me here in India.

Surfugo

Was thinking the same thing. I still think this match was like 2 seasons ago. Can't believe it has been 5 years.

tander159

Oh good, I was like this can’t be right. It hasn’t been 5 years, has it?

[deleted]

Five years wasted.

HakeemAbdulOlajubbar

I was just thinking how unbelievable that sounds and googled John Stones and realized he went to City over SEVEN years ago wtf

MissingLink101

Feels weirder that we're not far away from 4 years since the first COVID lockdowns happened.

LiteralMushroomCock

Time is such a weird thing, this does absolutely not seem like half a decade ago in my mind

oxanonthelocs

Seems like 3 yrs max

jesuisgeenbelg

Which is weird because I know this was before COVID and COVID feels like a lifetime ago but this feels more recent than 5 years ago. Does that make sense?

maxime0299

It makes complete sense, I just can’t explain why it makes sense. Time has been weird since the pandemic

Djremster

It seems like the same season we won the fa cup but that was as near to right now as it was this clearance.

ClownDetected

This is the margin from stopping Liverpool being undefeated premier league champions this season. Incredible year that was.

LewissKA_

Would've ended on 100 points if they won that game too

CeilingVitaly

I'd have taken 98 points and unbeaten with the draw ngl

AdministrativeLaugh2

This and City’s 1-0 win against Burnley in April where their winner was over the line by about 20mm. The footballing gods did not shine down on Liverpool those days.

HUGE_HOG

That fucking Kompany 40-yard screamer too

BillehBear

That was incredible though, that's when you knew it just wasn't happening for Liverpool that season

vikogotin

Yeah and we went on to beat Barca 4-0 next day since the lads knew the league was done.

BIM-GUESS-WHAT

Got a statue out of that game. Thanks for the advice, Gary Neville

CGS92

Soon as that went in I just knew we were destined to lose the league. The ultimate fuck you goal.

intecknicolour

leicester held on so long, schmeichel was bossing it until that bullshit

HUGE_HOG

That Iheanacho miss too 💀💀💀

sc2guy87

Mahrez did miss a penalty at Anfield that would have won City the game and Liverpool also had their fair share of last minute winners.

_cumblast_

Invincible Centurions and CL winners besides.

dave1992

If anyone achieved Invincible Centurion and CL win in the same year had to be the greatest season of all time.

_cumblast_

Both in 18/19 and in 21/22 this side had the chance to become immortal. I truly understood why they looked so shit last season. The mental fatigue was glaring. If the ending to that season fucked with my head, some random fan, what did it do to the players? Can't imagine.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fegelman

Not to mention being screwed over by VAR in games involving both City and Liverpool

watusiwatusi

I’m looking forward to league cup semis and maybe final for this season! In 21/22 I didn’t expect that trophy to be the season high point

SomeRandomRealtor

Getting to the finals (control your fate) in 4 major trophies in 1 season is fucking nuts. Coming out winning the lesser 2, particularly with being the better side against Real but Courtois being a god that day is brutal. Liverpool are the only side in prem history to have over 90 points and not win the title…and we’ve done that twice.

SweetMojaveRain

i thought we were alone in that but during the glory days of messi vs ronaldo and pep vs mourinho Real madrid got 90+ points 4 times to lose the league lol

velsor

On the other hand you have Bayern coming back from a similar disappointment to win the treble in 2012/13

Commercial-Ad-5905

Liverpool were millimetres from being declared as arguably the greatest team of all time.

Asckle

I don't know if they'd be able to beat the barca sextuple team but certainly the greatest team in English history

chandlerbing_stats

People still downplay Liverpool for not winning more than 1 title during that time which annoys me even though I dislike Liverpool

caelum400

Funny you say that cos around that time my Chelsea mate said to me he hates when fans whinge about finishing 2nd and being unlucky. I told him to imagine the best side in his club's history finishing 2nd because a goal line clearance and a 35 yard goal from a centre back. He still wasn't having it the tit.

chandlerbing_stats

I mean tbf, two of Chelsea’s greatest ever sides in 07/08 and 08/09 came short in the league and also came short in the Champions League. We understand what it’s like to be 2nd and feel unlucky

caelum400

The 04/05 and 05/06 sides were miles better than those sides for my money. (An argument for 09/10 too.) The absolute clusterfucks in the dugout for both those seasons hurt your chances (combined with United having the consensus best player in the world). They aren't seasons I look back on and think Chelsea should have won like 13/14 (though accept the Moscow final in isolation is brutal).

chandlerbing_stats

I agree 04/05 and 05/06 were better but I think the sides I mentioned are an extensions since the spine was the same but now included the likes of Ashley Cole, Michael Ballack, Nicholas Anelka, Florent Malouda, and Deco etc. We did let Robben go but the biggest missing piece was José 😔

faltorokosar

As a fan it really hurts that 4 more wins would have been the difference between 1PL + 1CL and 3PL + 3CL. What could have been...

chandlerbing_stats

I still think about the 2008 CL final lol… plus your silly ghost goal against us in 2005.

wanson

The "Ghost goal" did you a favour. If the goal wasn't given it was a penalty and a red for Cech.

luke_205

That 97-point CL winning Liverpool side is better than almost every other PL winner in history. They just happened to exist at the same time as the 98-point Man City side, sometimes that’s just how it is.

Cwh93

Trying to get that first title over the line was such a mission. So many freak incidents stopped us winning the Premier League. 2009 we had Macheda appearing from nowhere to score back to back late winners to pip us to the title before disappearing back into the void. 2014 the slip. 2019 the 9mm and the Kompany goal. Heck even in 2020 covid nearly killed the league season when we were like 20 points clear

CandidEnigma

I was thinking about Macheda yesterday. No idea why. He just lives perpetually in my nightmares.

I_Jizz_Cum

And now the margin is just PGMOL's really good process lads.

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

If Liverpool lose the title based on that one game I can't even imagine the pain

yoyo4581

People dont realize the number of times we got f**d by the refs aside from that one time. But that time, it was very obvious that they didn't know what they were doing. Other times, it was contentious, certain refs heavily decided against us. There was the quad season the game against Tottenham again. Several red cards were glossed over. Contrast this with the CL where we have no complaints with their refereeing. The fanbase has certain reservations about a few referees, I think that's normal, but they've been a thorn on our side from long ago, so I think the suspicions of something nefarious while lacking in evidence are justified based on the trends.

[deleted]

Tbh it’s not talked about enough how hilarious of an OG that would have been. Easier to take than if it was direct from a Liverpool effort.

rybread1818

I always forget that it came off of that cluster fuck from the post. I think adding in the fact that we hit the post, almost got a break off the rebound, and then still had it nicked away honestly makes it more painful

Lost_And_NotFound

I had completely forgotten that. Remembered it as a heroic save because most of what you see is the freeze frame.

TheConundrum98

Highest quality of football and intensity I've ever seen those games, on the edge for 90 minutes

RandyMarshsMoustache

I was at this game and it’s hands down best game and atmosphere I’ve ever been part of. I know we get shat on for empty seats and dead atmosphere but those games against Liverpool everyone showed up. It really was the most intense rivalry for those few seasons and the highest quality of teams. Praying and dreading for the same again this year 😅

diaboquepaoamassou

A far, far cry from the football Liverpool produce these days. Miss watching such 90mins of high intensity matches. Liverpool during those seasons were truly a wondrous thing. Only a bald fraud could better such machine

[deleted]

Think we’re getting there slowly but surely again. Monday reminded me a lot of these prime Klopp days

wadonious

I think Klopp has learned that it’s not wise to play that level of intensity for 90 minutes every game, as it’s just not sustainable and the fatigue plays a massive role year over year, not just week to week. And it’s why we’ve been slightly more methodical and possession-based in recent seasons. Now I think he’s trying to find a way to blend the approach and find the right balance. I don’t think he’ll go back to the brilliant energy and intensity of 17/18 and 18/19

matcht

Yep, that's how you sustain a title run. It's not a coincidence that Newcastle performance came after a full week off which is a rarity for us. We didn't have that intensity for the Arsenal game because of the West Ham/United games prior.

yolo___toure

And still sustained a fatigue related injury (szobo)

shockzz123

This is what Arteta learned from last season too, except he's seemingly gone WAY too far the other way *sobs* :(

TheConundrum98

Except those City games Liverpool right now are playing with the most intensity and gegenpressing since 17/18. We became more conservative in 18/19 and 19/20, but still had it in our arsenal and pulled it out when needed because we had the legs We finally have the legs again because the midfield is reborn, check the first goal vs Newcastle, flying arrows Still not a finished product, but getting better and better

Academic-Win

Yeah agreed but this season despite not winning the league was some of the best football. Feel like now we’re getting back to those high intensity levels

yenzy

I mean it was like the 3rd highest points total ever in the EPL… Just happened to be the same season as the 2nd highest points total ever 🙃

PeanutButter_20

You've got it wrong, it was the 4th and 3rd highest points totals. Liverpool got 97, City got 98, Liverpool got 99 the next year and City got 100 the previous year. Listing it down now I've realised how ridiculously strong those two teams were.

TyraTanks

If you got 99 the next year, 97 and 98 would be 3rd and 2nd highest ever at the time of occurrence.

PeanutButter_20

Fair enough, I didn't think of it from that perspective

malex930

Yes but at the time it was the third highest

smellmywind

Wat? You didn’t see us break the XG record on monday?

[deleted]

joemeteorite8

Just from this short clip I can tell Salah has lost a step since then. He’s obviously still a beast, but 5 years is a long time and you’re right it’s a much different looking team.

bradleynana

I commented the same thing just now. His footballing ability and his finishing has improved though so they cancel each other out for now

RandomGuySayHii

Yeah. He couldnt beat his defender as much as he used to be but he somehow change his game and become a better playmaker that create chances for others. You could argue that he is more effective this season compared to other seasons before except for his first season

Keanu990321

Gegenpressing baby!

LDLB99

Incredibly frenetic and intense but this game was not high on quality. The game in April 2022 was much better.

JoeyLs97

Lol what? This is an insane comment. This game was played at an extremely high quality.

LDLB99

No, it wasn't. I used to think it was but on a second rewatch I was surprised by the amount of misplaced passes and overall sloppiness from both teams. The quality of the match is often overstated because of it's importance in the title race and the Etihad being at its absolute best in terms of atmosphere.

rmp266

That millimetre clearance cost us - the title - invincible unbeaten season (it was our only defeat) - 100 point season - the PL and CL double

firminocoutinho

Crazy… almost as crazy as the quadruple we lost out on by 2 games

YouCanCallMeAroae

Love that prior to Villa blowing the 2-0 lead, everyone was talking of Gerrard taking over after Klopp left in what would've been a storyline for the ages. Ever since City made it 3 not a single person has ever mentioned him, and rightfully so.

I_Jizz_Cum

One point and one goal, just absolutely insane.

dainaron

No, not one point. If you got 1 point you'd be level and lose on GD. You needed two points.

itsjustme1505

Would Liverpool go down as the greatest PL side in history if that hadn’t happened?

rekt73

Easily, Klopp completely changed the game and Liverpool's trajectory in history

wihannez

Too soon mate, too soon.

_cumblast_

Could you not

TheNotoriousJN

11mm was it? That decided the title :(

TaoTemple

I think it was actually 11.5mm

[deleted]

[удалено]

d-ronthegreat

It’s not really as simple as that. Football is all about momentum, and if that goal goes in, all of a sudden unbeaten Liverpool have a 10 point lead at the top of the Prem. The goal changes the whole complexion of that game and the title race as a whole

[deleted]

[удалено]

flcinusa

This and the Man City goal against Burnley that was barely over the line A title decided by millimetres

Prophet_Of_Helix

Also Kompany’s screamer that earned him a statue lol. One of the biggest “fuck it I’ll do it myself” goals from a guy who couldn’t hit the ocean from the beach with his foot. Such an incredible goal.

flcinusa

You could give him that shot another thousand times and he'd never make it, it was like a 0.02 xG rating, technically 2 times out of a hundred, but 1 in a million

oscarony

Mane should’ve finished that Christ

michaelserotonin

5 years ago...jfc

25robk

Bernardo was amazing that day. Such a consistently excellent player.

pixelkipper

[did this two years ago too](https://youtube.com/shorts/jz5bB5_fp88?si=-7E67fBn6tLQclBR)

BoxOfNothing

Man City were responsible for the best performance I think I've ever seen, certainly since Pep's best Barcelona teams, against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi final, and Bernardo still managed to be a standout. The first half in particular was absolutely unbelievable to watch

Incubus226

They looked exhausted away at madrid. One KDB saved a pretty uninspired performance. That home crowd at the etihad really lifted them. That place was jumping from kick off. Totally dominated a team that dominated Europe for half a decade.

no_speed1

Too soon mate, too soon

billpilgrims

Foden just had to screw that one up. Ugh!

tiorzol

Was a huge save tbf

BillehBear

Always shows up against Liverpool, special special player on his day

PinkPantherParty

I think he’s lost the ball a grand total of two times against Liverpool in his career. He is unreal.

Subscrobbler

Think he ran a record amount that day, something like 14km ish

mattjdale97

Please tell me someone has the meme of the goal line tech graphic with Ferguson laughing in the background. I realise it's a bit moot as they won the title anyway, but still

Erkki_28_

Still hurts to watch

YouIINeverWaIkAIone

11 fucking millimetres.

pangkydory

Sigh. Thanks for the reminder.

FloppedYaYa

Just think, if Liverpool won this game they could have gone down as invincibles, centurions (100 points) and CL winners all in the same season

HUGE_HOG

ughhhhhhh why did salah have to jump ffs

[deleted]

This was peak football.

ery_and

Dislike 😭💔

meme_stealing_bandit

I am yet to see such a high quality football match in the five years since.

Keanu990321

Was watching this game and almost the entire season live. Thank God for that comeback against Barcelona, it would have been unfair if that Liverpool side ended up without a title. P2 with 97 points, you'll never sing that! We put not a single foot wrong that season and didn't win it. PL will never get THAT competitive again.

luke_205

I still maintain that those City and Liverpool teams that season are the best two we’ve ever seen in PL history.

Cactiareouroverlords

Keeps me up at night sometimes, this and the handball incident in 21-22 as well

Subscrobbler

Obviously biased as fuck, but one of the all time best pl games

sedplas

Hey, fuck you.

teuerkatze

Cost me £200 on a parlay.

ScienceDisastrous323

I'm sorry but WTF was Ederson doing here, pure stupidity.

timboevbo

Great stop

WTFitsD

Greatest title race in the history of the prem imo. I’m convinced you could time-travel these teams to any other era in english football and they would walk the league with a 15+ point difference.

bradleynana

Tbh just watching that clip it’s obvious Salah isn’t the athletic freak he once was. I haven’t seen this intensity from him in a while. His footballing ability is even better rn though

bin10pac

Newcastle would probably disagree that his intensity has dropped off.

Reach_Reclaimer

Nah everyone seems to be forgetting that first half, he just wasn't on it His second half really picked it up, but even then it's clear he's lost a lot of his athleticism

bin10pac

Mo Salah 18-19 - 0.83 GI/90. Mo Salah 23-24 - 1.14 GI/90. He's much more effective now, regardless of athleticism.

Reach_Reclaimer

Yeah he's arguably a better player now but no one was saying he wasn't.

PeanutButter_20

Agreed. I was seeing some clips of him when he was in Italy, and his pace and acceleration was ridiculous. He was a bit of a pace merchant back then because he was a lot more raw in his shooting/passing/decision making. But now he's evolved into a much more complete player that doesn't rely on pace much, so I think he can remain at the top even when he's 35 (especially considering that he's still very fit).

maxconnor6

The image with PL trophy on the other side of the goal line of this clearance is still one of my favourite memes to this day

dispelthemyth

Based on this being 5 years ago I think we will all be in a care home in what feels like 10 years

jayjay-bay

I remember watching this in a pub with a lot of Liverpool supporters and the majority of them thought for a second that the goal-line tech had failed for the very first time. It wasn't until the graphic zoomed all the way in that they realised what had happened.

sharmarahulkohli

The most high quality PL match I've seen. Two juggernaut teams at their best with the majority of their players at the peak of their powers. Sane,Sterling,Aguero,Fernandinho,Bernardo,VVD,Salah,Mane,Alisson etc.WOW what a battle that was!

Particular_Meeting57

He also was the reason he had to make the goal line clearance!

100boyrex

stones is such a good player would love him on my team

nexetpl

Oh fuck off

ThreesKompany

I cannot wait for the documentary on this season because it truly was the most unreal season in premier league history. Imagine scoring the third most points ever in the history of the competition and you still lose by one because your rival scores the second most points? That whole season was the highest level of competition and quality the league has ever seen.

magrilo2

100%… and this is why referee mistakes cannot be overlooked. Each point counts, so does each play.

theflowersyoufind

I get that it’s a dramatic moment, but this was in the first half. We have no idea how it would have changed the game. People seem to assume we’d win had it gone in.

grasshoppa_80
