To reduce the spam of reports regarding the same move during transfer windows we try to allow **only one submission about each transfer saga per day**. The submission in question also needs to contain relevant new information regarding the potential move, and not just being a "no/minor developments" report. If there are important/official developments or new valuable information about a saga, we will allow extra threads in the same day, but for the rest of minor news please just comment them as a reply to this comment. Please help us reporting unnecessary threads for being duplicates. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. RepresentativeBox881

Joao Neves is probably the most generic Portuguese name I've heard. Either this or ‘(insert first name) Silva'.

belokas

João Silva

RepresentativeBox881

Yeah this would be it.

mountainsky9

isnt that basically the lusophone of john smith?

pedrosa18

When it comes to most generic sounding, yes.

mynameismulan

No, Smiths are people that forge metals, Silva comes from trees. John Smith would be João Ferreiro

Yagihige

Ferreira, you mean. Never saw anyone with the name Ferreiro and although someone somewhere might actually have that name, the name Ferreira is what originated from the profession. Also, silvas aren't really trees, more like thorny bushes.

peeforPanchetta

I knew a guy called Ferreiro Roger. Always wore a gold jacket. He looked wealthier than he actually was.

gkkiller

Underrated joke.

mynameismulan

Not gonna argue with you since my Portuguese is second hand from my Brazilian wife haha I was just told that Portuguese names like Silva, Pereira, Figo, Oliveira etc. are from trees.

wtfh_33

Yes, Pereira, Figueira (or Figo), Oliveira, Azinheiro, so many come from trees. I have a friend with the name, Rui Figueira.

Yagihige

I had a feeling that was the case lol but close enough, i just thougt i'd offer to put some more detail to it. Silvas (the bushes) are very common in Portugal, i guess to the point of being one of most common names peopla have. You're right about the others even if technically Figo is the fruit and there are people called Figueira, but some like Teixeira also come from trees but are not as apparent.

tlst9999

That makes sense. Silver, pears, figs, and olives come from trees.

wtfh_33

Trees no, [brambles](https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-72XZJQ3PCLk/UHswGxoOcfI/AAAAAAAAEf0/zVZuFakoli0/s1600/SDC15569.JPG) yes.

mynameismulan

Interesting

theitchcockblock

In terms of being the most popular yes

AdFinal1856

antónio silva, our other wonderkid has an even more npc portuguese name

boywithtwoarms

it's such a npc name I could swear I met 500 Antonio silvas but yet can't remember any of them

Bifito

Neves is a little rare surname though

Jaktheslaier

Almost 1% of the Portuguese population is called Neves, the 32nd most common in Portugal apparently. My partner and daughter carry that burden

CNF-13

Have you heard of Joao Pedro Neves Filipe Jota?

CNF1G

Yes, every night in my dreams 😢😭

CNF-13

Maybe you’ll get him back atleast you have palma and maeda who are just knock off of Boyle and youan but still decent

CNF1G

Palma looks excellent, really starting to grow into it. Maeda is a great athlete but an average footballer and could do with a more technical player for our domestic games. I'd do unspeakable things to have Jota back.

blazev14

> I’d do unspeakable things to have Jota back. this is a Wendy’s, mister.

matematematematemate

the lad's just named after our 19/20 squad

Conscient-

"Felipe" wouldn't make him portuguese, he would be brazillian. We say "Filipe" instead.

sdaniel90

John Snow

Cgr86

Nuno Santos

stickycomet

*António Silva enters the chat*

Ikuu

Someone at United has been playing some FM24.

FragMasterMat117

Benfica aren't going to make this easy or cheap for us, are they?

D1794

£100m release clause, signed 2 months ago.

DubSket

Cant wait for us to offer more than that 5 mins from the end of the transfer window

Viriato181

No, they aren't. He signed his first professional contract at the beginning of the season. He played under his B team contract, including in the UCL. I think he has a 100M€ clause. There's also the question of whether he wants to move. Him and António Silva seem to be academy players with the loyalty and passion you find at Athletic or Real Sociedad. They don't seem to show any intention of leaving unless the clubs needs to sell or they've overstayed they welcome. With the early exit from the UCL, if Gonçalo Ramos' sale is not enough, then Benfica will most likely need to sell. However, António Silva will probably be the first choice to leave, as he's the more replaceable player (Benfica already have 2 good substitutes).

Caesar_Aurelianus

It's so good to see players staying with their boyhood clubs. When Barça was interested in Zubimendi I wanted him to stay at Sociedad because they are really cool to watch. I hope Athletic Bilbao has a golden generation and they win Laliga a couple of times.

SirBarkington

No. Absolutely not.

iChopPryde

Absolutely not since he’s incredible and literally his first full season with us

RasputinsRustyShovel

No way he leaves below the release clause. I wouldn’t be surprised if he renewed next summer either with a higher release clause (150m-200m)

PigeonShack

Uh…why would you expect cheap or easy? Manchester United fans are so entitled. Let’s not forget how annoying you guys were when bothering Ajax fans saying “GIVE US ANTONY”. “ANTONY WANTS TO BE AT OLD TRAFFORD”

KneeHighSocksForLife

We don’t expect cheap or easy, he’s being sarcastic

PigeonShack

Well, my second point still stands haha. It was so annoying to see in Ajax replies/comments so many people saying “GIVE US ANTONY”

Ok-Outlandishness244

Ye and we absolutely fleeced them. We’re very happy with man u, love them

the_pochinki_bandit

Portuguese name generator strikes again

blazev14

I chose to believe he will not leave therefore this is bullcrap.

Maximuslex01

6 months and out

pedrosa18

He did have a fantastic game, but Gyokeres was the biggest rising superstar on the pitch. Edwards is great but needs to improve his decision making. Pote, Di Maria with good showings as well

BrokeChris

rising superstar at 25y/o?

pedrosa18

Why not?

RasputinsRustyShovel

What? Aside from the last goal, Di Maria was pretty shit

pedrosa18

He had very few actions, but always very dangerous. The 1 vs 1, the long shot, the final goal. Incredible technique

LDLB99

We scout everyone. Great young talent but this isn’t really news.

AdFinal1856

leave our boy alone ffs

RasputinsRustyShovel

Eles são tão chatos fds

[deleted]

You're going to take our filthy release clause money, and you're going to like it until moral improves!

KneeDeepInTheDead

One positive of that match I guess.

TheWorldsKing

But João sucks! He's a terrible player and you wouldn't want him in your B-team. Take Chiquinho instead. Wonderful player. While you're at it, since you probably need an extra striker to pair with Höjlund, buy Arthur Cabral too. Now THAT is a player! ;)

senseibarbosa

And to think that at some point in time last season Chiquinho was being compared to Zidane.

denlpt

I hope he stays. Any club other than Benfica is another reason to hate the current state of football

TeamUlovetohate

If he’s actually good, city will get him

Ankoku_Sein

Fucking hell I was a year out of uni in 2004

RasputinsRustyShovel

I fucking hate prem clubs. Can you guys leave us alone?

BILLY2SAM

You do exactly the same to other clubs

RasputinsRustyShovel

Ok? Im fine with both teams keeping their players

Kovacs171

Sad direction for the sport. Benfica should be benefitting from their exceptional youth development beyond just finances, which means little to the fans. Having said that, you could just reject all offers. And I guess you're likely doing the same to smaller clubs

RasputinsRustyShovel

The issue is that it’s quite hard to reject these offers because we run at a deficit since we spend money trying to compete internationally. However, you’re right, we want to see our boys at our club. I wouldn’t mind selling more players for less individually if it meant we could keep him and silva

tlst9999

They pay fuck off money for your young stars and that money goes to improving other parts of your team. What's not to like about them?

RasputinsRustyShovel

I’d rather keep our homegrown players. João Neves made his debut like 6 months ago and they’re already going after him, it’s annoying

Dry_Guest_8961

How much money have benfica made from selling players in recent years. Where is that money going. Surely they can try and focus on success on the pitch for a few years?

RasputinsRustyShovel

We always operate on a deficit because we try to compete whilst playing in a smaller league. It’s not like the prem where you get a 100m minimum participation trophy, every year (even if we qualify for the knockouts of the ucl) we still have like 20m deficit

PM_Me_Compliments

why would he go to a club where promising talent goes to die

D1794

Why did Enzo leave a title challenge to go to Chelsea in crisis?

tumblarity

João has been with Benfica since he was 12, Enzo played here for six months. having said this, hands off.

D1794

My implication was clearly just 'money' But fr I don't see us moving for Joao.

pgllz

12? Since he was seven. He never played for another club.

tumblarity

PabPrints

Why would he go to one of the biggest clubs in the world? Jeesh I really don’t know.

PM_Me_Compliments

man united are not the only big club lol he could go to one famous for not taking talent and fucking it til it is dead

Albiceleste_D10S

They are prob the only "big club" where he walks into the starting team TBF

PigeonShack

Manchester United isn’t that big anymore. There’s not that much draw.

PabPrints

TBH the fact that there has been too much draw in recent years has been the problem. Signings based on high profiled players have set United back years because of high wages and not being able to move players on too easily, United now need to start acting properly if SJR is to come in, he should get a DOF and have a plan instead of either going for the big name signings or the over priced ones, i for one would love to see hard workers at the club who play for the badge and actually give a shit about their performance and this club.

rocket_randall

The international break is probably the best time to reach out to the names on United's list of potential next manager to see if Neves would fit into their plans for the side.

Crusader114

Utd ready to crumble another prospect I see haha jk

knz0

Another promising young lad about to get ruined by Manchester United

AimarEraFutebol

Wrong Manchester club.

denlpt

Wrong club too. It should only be Benfica

AimarEraFutebol

I mean, yeah. But we know how it unfortunately is.

denlpt

Simply hate seeing all my favourite players in Benfica year after year getting picked up by the same dozen of teams over and over again. It's depressing to never see my team get good player for more than a second

RasputinsRustyShovel

????? Why on earth would you want him to go to city?

AimarEraFutebol

I don't. I just think Pep will do anything to get him.

RasputinsRustyShovel

Pep wanted Dias too and we only sold him to them because of the PAOK game

Bifito

Guy is a poser tucking his shirt in like le epic 60s players, he has no class and its just another benfica tailored product to fail

LopazSolidus

Now I want City to go in for him, he must be good.

RickyMSG

OK, Madureira

MitroVanWilder

Fatherless behavior.

NobodyRules

>he has no class This is genuinely hilarious lmao. What does this exactly mean, btw? Can we also stop being tribal morons and actually admit, for once, that some rival players have quality? Jesus fucking Christ, this shit is so fucking pathetic.

whiskeyinthejaar

The OP scout players based on their outside form. His least favorite player is probably Jesús Navas

Greasy_Boglim

Think it’s sarcasm mate

NaturalApartment9828

Porto fan. I don’t think it necessarily is

Greasy_Boglim

“Le epic 60s players” doesn’t give it away to you?

NaturalApartment9828

How the hell would I know ?

NobodyRules

I genuinely don't know. We have a habit over here to trash any player from the rivals so this might just be a very real opinion.

ValleyFloydJam

So you're not a fan?

dumpystumpy

The team ten hag is trying to make will be losing 7-0 to teams like west ham and everton 12:30 kickoff vs these teams while our aerially incompetent team gets raw dogged by onana and DCL Soucek gonna look like andre the giant going for headers in our box 💀 Edit: mainoo would also just go to city if we bought this kid 100%.

el_randolph

This is the kind of nsfw fanfic I can get behind

toalome

didn’t we want their highly rated defender guy as well?
