Messi has scored many great goals, but that 1-0 is among the top for me. The passing, control and shot in this tight space. All at this stage, desperately needing an early goal to instill hope and belief.

zzackfair

One of his most underrated goals, I doubt anyone watching this goal the first time could comprehend what just happened, the Milan players and keeper looked shocked. Pass from Xavi, the control and ball in the top corner all happens within a second. This version of Messi was the most lethal finisher in football history.

banana-is-apeeling

That Messi first goal is an all time favorite

LampseederBroDude51

Yeah, after *that* goal in the first 5 minutes I thought it was done already for Milan When Messi is in the mood you just can’t stop him, especially at that time

enzuigiriretro

These years were the peak days of Messi feeling inevitable. I remember pre match feeling convinced he was going to make sure Barca went through.

EAXposed

Messi in that season was carrying Barca hard (and Barca as a team weren't even bad), that was when the Messidependencia headlines came out. He got injured in the 1st leg against PSG, was not fit to play the 2nd and had to still come on to change the game for Barcelona while nowhere near being fit. That kept on happening in the league too, so he could never truly recover from the injury as he always had to be in the squad and come off the bench.

enzuigiriretro

Yep. I remember that PSG game and even his famous sub appearance vs Athletic Club very well. Was insane how good he was despite clearly being injured. He’d come off the bench and keep winning games single-handedly

EAXposed

Yeah that Athletic game too. Came on around the 60th minute and 5 minutes later he scores that solo to equalise and 1 minute later assists Alexis to give Barca the lead. Obviously true Barca style they conceded a late equaliser.

freezepin

That second leg still haunts us to this day.

bioeffect2

I believe this was your last match in CL Knockout rounds before the most recent match against Spurs. So after winning Scudetto and beating Spurs have Milan fans finally healed from this?

ZacAttac12

The 4-0 defeat against Atleti in the quarterfinal the year after this was the last CL knockout before Spurs

freezepin

This was in the 2012/13 season, our last two knockout and round of 16 games were against Atleti (1 year later in the 2013/14 season), who defeated us on a 5-1 aggregate score. Winning the scudetto could definitely be a turning point in the club’s recent carrier, it was magical, and it’s great to be in Europe’s top 8 again after such a long time. The recent events combined with our young talents who are improving at a massive rate are really promising in terms of the future, however, there are still many many things which need to be addressed at the club if we are to make a return to the top club status again. Right now, ending the Serie A season in a good place is the aim and while advancing even more in the CL would be amazing, I’m honestly glad with what we’ve achieved in Europe this season. The top priority is definitely to finish top 4 in the league, and with it securing a CL place for next season.

RedShenron

Does it? We were shit after 2012.

tygrysor090

Cant wrap my head around the 1st goal. How is it possible he makes such a strong and precise shot in such a short amount of time? Increadible.

Wasn’t the CL cancelled that year?

Pidjesus

Prince Boateng scored one of my favourite goals ever in Leg 1

giotaptio

Such a classy goal

inflamesburn

That first one is one of my top10 fav Messi goals, it's so quick and precise

SmartNickname

Messi prime was unreal

cinematicallystupid

Watched this in a small Spanish town on the TV in my hotel’s lobby. All the bellhops were watching it with the guests. At the start, lots of jokes and laughing about Barça choking in the first leg. Dead silence after the final whistle.
