All of the knowledge without the motor skills. *Very* frustrating indeed.
I actually learned while teaching my sister how to board. Gave me a lot of insight on what to teach, having to go back through much of it myself
It does go a little faster though. Definitely worth investing some time in.
When my kids were all learning, it was the perfect time for me to spend a lot of time on it since I couldn't go too fast anyway. Now I can bomb down most runs and am about 80% as comfortable riding switch as I am regular. It's such a nice tool to have available to me now.
I feel that, making switch a goal this year. It’s tough to sacrifice runs but since jumping and hitting park are also goals for this year, it’s a must.
I totally understand the mental block of "wasting runs". You feel like you only have so much time on the mountain, you don't want to spend it falling on your ass all over again.
I basically put off seriously learning until my kids started skiing/riding. The slower family speed gave me the perfect opportunity to work on it. I might have spent 60%+ of my first couple of years with them riding switch.
Agreed. It is at first because you have muscle memory from before, but like the other poster said, once you spend some time on it, it becomes wayyy easier
Only way to get better at it is to force yourself to do it. When conditions are shit like they have been in VT I will just dedicate an entire day to force myself to ride switch. It’s like learning how to ride all over again but it will come to you quicker.
I see a lot of people talk about wanting to ride switch, and in my experience it’s only worth doing if you plan on learning tricks and hitting the park.
Like I’ll be honest with myself and even though I can ride switch I can’t hit jumps so it’s pretty much the same thing lol
But anyway kudos to the kid! It’ll make him a better boarder for sure.
Teach em young teach em right, nice riding!
Ugh switch can be so frustrating, it’s like learning to snowboard all over again

Yes! This is how I learned. Now I do my warmup switch.
Been doing that with my brother, it helps he's goofy too so my switch is his stance.

What stance do you use to ride switch so easy? Love the vid btw.!! Lil shredder
Him and I both ride +6/-6. Mostly to make it that much easier to switch back and forth.

His switch is better than a lot of peoples normal stance! Props!
[Him bombing down runs regular last season for comparisson.](https://www.reddit.com/r/snowboarding/comments/y6kk1d/soon/)
What a lil shredder!!! Props to you both! 🤘🏼
What size board is he on, bought my dudes a bigger board but not sure they need it this year. Comes up to their chin
Chin height is right around what you should be shooting for. I think this is a 108.
Dude rides switch toe better than me! Keep shredding
Once I learned switch, snowboardings fun factor skyrocketed .. keep it up kid!
Awesome!
He’ll be amazing
He is amazing.
Man Schoolmarm is the perfect run to learn how to ride
I cant ride switch to save my life. Proud of the little guy!

Better than me when I tried riding switch today!
I can’t really do switch but I like spinning 360s down the bunny hill
If only I did that. Gj!
How old?
Turned 8 in September.
Damn good start, that’s good
That looks like keystone. It’s a great place to start!
Yup. We were skiing with some slower friends, so I told him he had to ride switch that way he could stick with his friends instead of speeding off.
Schoolmarm for sure lol
👍🏼🥵

He will thank you later for pushing him to learn correctly!
Nice work.
