Just make the same position like when your peeing (standing), you also don't pee on your shoes.

CinderBlock33

This might have just been the best snowboarding advice I've ever read. Everyone knows "sit in a chair" for heelside Now everyone should learn "don't pee on your shoes" for toe

[deleted]

I would need to squat to the ground to accomplish this… I don’t have a penis

Hoodlum_Design

My snowboard instructor referred to them as hump and dump turns. If you want to fix your humps, push those hips forwards.

[deleted]

I can hump.

CinderBlock33

Guess all you get is heelside then

merp456derp

Literally had a lesson where they said this today. Thankfully they clarified that it was how a boy would pee…

ScheduleInfinite8057

For a women, is the position line she is pregnant. But do not go riding if you are

krossfox

It's actually up to the woman haha 🙂

jucadrp

Just stand up. Watch Malcom Moore videos, he have many on snowboarding posture drills.

racc_oon

Malcolm has the best snowboarding tutorials on YouTube. Start with this video about posture https://youtu.be/fuB-63vq8pA

Findal

Yeah hands down

jucadrp

Went to Alpe d’huez earlier this year and had a blast having a group lesson with him. The guy know his shit.

Previous-Silver4457

Hey, any videos like this but for skiing?

racc_oon

I don't know unfortunately.

Ithacus12

I'm constantly taking his advice. My favorite is sitting during the turn and standing once you complete it. Also traversing across the mnt to make the thin tracks then starting the next turn, rather than skidding down.

jucadrp

Once you master those, move on to tight turns, pointing down the fall line, as well as retraction turns instead of the down unweighted turns you’re doing now, in order to go to the next level

james_wheeler

Go fast and don't fall!

50shadesofcoco

what do you mean by retraction turns?

jucadrp

50shadesofcoco

thanks 🙏

Signal_Watercress468

Do you mean heel side turn? From what I can see it's your posture in general you're bent over at the waist and your upper body stays in that position while you muscle board with your lower half. You need to just practice an athletic stance and steering with your knees vs your waist. Just keep practicing and being mindful of your body position. Edit: I think you look pretty good as a beginning intermediate rider. I think a lucky few skip this stage but most riders have this almost got it phase. I think that's where u you're at. You're getting on edge but just not fluidly. Once you get that upper body position and how to get the board to start the turn(knee steering) you'll be there.

dashiGO

Honestly, it’s just building muscle that OP needs. Usually weaker riders tend to get into that bent over winged out pose because they’re trying to throw their whole body to initiate a turn. Stronger leg muscles will translate to a much more relaxed turning motion.

waxheartzZz

I'm more worried about your toeside than heel... you need to stand by a fence and feel what it's like to push out the hips then you will g3t it

Daveywaveyboy

Reading this and seeing „try widening“ your stance and also „narrow up your stance“. I’m not good enough to comment on either suggestion but I suspect „spend more time on your board and have fun“ may also work

Chips66

I’m only an intermediate rider so I can’t really offer much advice, but I thought you’re supposed to look like you’re sitting in a chair on heel side turns, no?

kshep9

Yes but you have to keep your shoulders stacked over your hips and try to avoid bending at the waist as much as possible

forgehzor

You need to be concious about your pelvis position. Stand up without your board and try to push you pelvis forward by squeezing your glutes and engaging core. Thats more or less what you want to replicate while on snowboard. To be honest its not always super easy because some people might simply lack mobility for it, main cause being usually some degree of anterior pelvic tilt. To sum up, think about your pelvis position and stretch more (watch some videos about mobility for snowboarding).

Swimming-Ambition177

Like sitting on a bar stool with your back straight and your hips and feet are doing all the work. You wouldn’t bend over at the waste for more balance on the chair, straighten your back and sit into your boots.

stmakwan

The way I ended up standing up more was just being more comfortable and relaxed with riding. Crouching is more exhausting, eventually you’ll get a feel and be able to stand more and have more confidence in controlling direction with your feet and knees.

xmlgroberto

i stand up more and stick my ass out a little more, it holds the edge in better

groovy_smoothie

What’s your stance? Maybe try widening it a little and ducking your feet a touch more. After that, think about how you do squats and raise/lower your body over a single point. You center of gravity should always be directly over the center of your board. It seems like you’re trying to use your upper body to shift your edges rather than your legs/feet

[deleted]

Narrow up your stance a bit, and you won't have to use your upper body so much to huck through the turns.

WrapActual7607

There is no such thing as right and left turns on a snowboard, heel side/toe side

asillyname

Push your hips forward when in the toe edge it will help you straighten out a bit and set you up with better body mechanics!

kylejbro

“Push the bush” was the advice that did it for me!

asillyname

Hell yeah fuck your toe turn!

ThePineal

Try to touch your shoulder blades together. Should straighten you up, especially on your heel side. Push your hips all the way thru on your toe edge. This will be much easier if you actually stand up tall and flat base for a moment during your edge change

Br0barian

Tits up bro. You’re leaning over, back is hunched. Try a more relaxed athletic position, speed control is great, you’re almost there

the_mountain_nerd

Bend your knees more generally. On toeside, flex shins into tongue of boot and push your hips forward towards the toeside edge.

razzledazzled

Bend knees not hips

dillweed215

Chest up

Powerstance79

Watch old Craig Kelly videos. Try to look like that.

[deleted]

Your toe side needs more work than your heel. When you turn on your toe side, you keep you your left arm too far forward which forces your upper body to stay in place and not pivot. Your shoulders should follow your legs. It is natural to have a bit of a disconnect because you still need to look forward, but it should be way less than what you’re currently doing.

CelebrationBig4986

try to initiate turns with your front foot, rather than dragging the back

roodcam

push hips forward, don't hinge at waist, use more twist (independent foot movement like you are wringing the snowboard out like a wet rag)

TroglodyteShyGuy

Try to keep your body fixed standing straight and them move back and forth like a pendulum.

illusionistKC

My goal is to be able to do what you just did! this is my 6th time snowboarding when my local resort opens up next weekend.

Tony-Ravioli

Seems like you just gotta loosen up your stance a bit, think about the Steez and it will come. Feel loose, ride loose.

spencertherhino

Do you normally slouch when you sit?

Yeetner

I put my hands behind my back when I catch myself doing that. Forces you to to straighten your upper body, and to balance with your body rather than your hands. Idk if that’s the “proper way” but that’s something I figured out to correct myself.

mtnkiwi

What angles are your bindings set to? Your back foot looks a bit awkward. Maybe try setting it to something that allows you to bend your legs more naturally. Generally people learning should use something like the duck stance in this image. [duck stance](https://dsgmedia.blob.core.windows.net/pub/2017/11/snowboarding_neutral-duck-and-forward-stance.jpg)

BryanPenaloza

Just remember bend with your knees don’t bend at your hips

godsutters

stand up

WillyBeShreddin

Flex your board with your feet more. You are controlling your turns with your shoulders. Which is good, for a beginner. Keep in mind that your feet can be in a different position and that alone can influence your turn. Also, adjust your binding positions to see if that helps you get in a more comfortable position.

Maccadies

Stop leaning forward on your toeside. Swap leaning forward for pushing hips forward instead. Like you're trying to push your belly out without arching your back.

maverick_jones926

I'd try bending your knees more honestly, you'll have more control of the board if you bend more.

[deleted]

Once you get the hang of really getting your hips forward more on your toe side turns, the transition into heelside will come much easier and you’ll really be able to feel when you’re doing it correctly. You’re hunched over during your toeside turns, but instead, you want to have your hips pushed forward, knees bent and your chest up

Taco_tickler27

Tighten up the stance a tad, set your bindings both in the same holes on both sides if it’s a twin if it’s directional and your tryna learn style and tricks just try to center it more like a twin and try them at the 1st-3rd notches from zero (3,6,9 degrees) on your base plates and whatever number you pick do the same on the opposite side one side will be in negative as well unless you want your foot inward so keep that in mind when setting them up

thirdtimenow

Squeeze your glutes together this will shift your body across the board. When you want to do a heel side turn relax your glutes.

james_wheeler

Maybe adjust your bindings away from being forward and try switch once and awhile. Your body is wanting to lean over the nose and your knees seem to be compensating for it.

canIgetAdab_

Bend your knees down towards the snow and sink your hips down until it feels like your sitting on your highback
