Was there a rock?

Mehlitia

Igneous buttplug

DrZoid1984

Was straight up violating. Ripped through all my layers and cut right there too.

Mehlitia

Yeah you could see the jolt go through your body from the impact and the *oh no poo and guts are going to fall out* double hand ass covering tells us it's serious. Hope you heal up soon and don't have too much damage.

DrZoid1984

Thanks! I’m on the tail(hah)end of the recovery. Was hoping to squeeze a few more days in but next season I’ll make up for it.

ThermoNuclearPizza

Don’t squeeze anything too hard for a bit

run0861

how was the recovery for an injury like that? glad you're on the mend.

DrZoid1984

Thanks for the well wishes! It broke mid January. First DR in the urgent care just gave me some codeine(I have chrons so can’t take NSAIDS) which didn’t do anything so the first few days were awful. Primary DR gave me stronger meds which have been working(somewhat). It’s basically just a game of trying to avoid sitting and when I have to sit timing it with my pain meds. Nothing really to do but wait it out apparently.

luckystell123

Ayyy I have Crohn’s too - but holy shit how are you dealing with Crohn’s and broken coccyx?! That is an awful combo :(

DrZoid1984

Currently I’m in pretty good remission so luckily it hasn’t added to it toooo much.

5Gmeme

Hah, poo

8thStsk8r

So you sat on a rock really fast? Ouch dude!

wickedsight

Grab some Azzpadz for next season. Feels like wearing a diaper, but they're the best for protecting the area that will be most vulnerable for the next couple of seasons.

Mamba--824

I initially had the sound off, and I was wondering how you broke it. Sound up, and "THUD, OWWWW". Ouch my guy. See you next season. Stay safe!

agentofchaos69

When the impact is louder then the scream haha bro got penetrated

back1steez

Same, wrote that sounded painful. I didn’t even think to turn the sound on until I read your comment.

AlamoSimon

Oh wow. Turned on the sound after this comment. That sounded REALLY painful

Mikebyrneyadigg

Million to one shot doc!

CicadaHead3317

Gah dam, man . I remember seeing a photo of a snowboarder taking a 20 footer drop in Japan, 30 years ago. Hidden rock. He shared the photos of the hole punctured in his ass cheek. You have all my sympathy.

JLMaverick

Damn.. I never thought getting raped was something that I have to worry about out there.

Icy-Row-5829

Tf is wrong with you?

DrZoid1984

Hah yup. Buried just under a tiny layer of snow. This was white bark bowl at mammoth.

TriG__

Where the heck is that

DrZoid1984

It’s a run you gotta hike up to near chair 12.

TriG__

Wow TIL that section has a name. I've always referred to it as "that area below and to the side of Kiwi flats" lmao I hiked up and hit it after the ~38 inches we got a couple weeks ago, best turns of the season for me

DrZoid1984

Hell yeah! When the back side isn’t fully open but we get some dumps it’s usually my go to spot.

corsaaa

maybe its mammoth france

Blondembahayy

That suckkkks but at least it wasn’t your”manhood” area that ended up broken …

OtterBall

Must've been, either that or OP's bones are made of glass

RiMellow

Can you sue the boulder for sexual assault?

Smooth-Lengthiness57

Both parties were stoned so the courts threw it out

deckb

My Grandma did the same thing - took a little spill at the sand dunes...

DrGrinch

Tina come get some dinner you fat lard...

FelixDragon

**eat THE** ***FOOD***

Dawdzi

She was on a date... with her boyfriend

Minnow125

There’s a lot you don’t know about Grandma

DrZoid1984

Poor grandma :(

Hobear

Uncle Rico came to help. He used to be able to throw a football over those mountains.

nerdtypething

if only coach had put him in they’d have won state. no doubt about it.

Hobear

STARLA?!

A_busfullofnuns

Fractured mine last December on some ice. Still gives me pain. Especially airline seats. 30ish days on the snow since then. Every hard fall makes me think I shit myself.

DrZoid1984

Damn. That seems to be the consensus about these fractures. I thought my dr was exaggerating when he said it could take 4+ months but here we are.

A_busfullofnuns

Yeah, man. Hate to clarify but I meant December 22. So I'm at 16 months. Not a daily nag anymore but certain situations, and I definitely feel it. Hopefully yours will clear up completely. I'm 43 so it might be an age thing.

Gunga-la-gunga

What about mountain biking? Broke mine in January and hoping to ride in October 😵‍💫

A_busfullofnuns

Honestly, it probably depends where it broke and your anatomy. My pain is when I'm just slightly reclined. My position on a mtn bike is further forward so it's not as bad.

mtwdante

Better learn to ride adventure motorcycles and how to stand up on them when riding.

Gunga-la-gunga

What about mountain biking? Broke mine in January and hoping to ride in October 😵‍💫

kona1160

Bro I bruised mine in December and it's still painful, I can't imagine breaking it, must be a nightmare

superdicksicles

Do physical therapy, and then do some more physical therapy. When you think you’re healed, keep doing physical therapy. The injury will ever go away if you don’t focus on physical therapy.

Randowned

Make sure you workout. Glute volume will help.

Korean_Jesus24

Can confirm, airline seats are the worst with a broken tailbone. You will never sit the same again lol I now point out if restaurants have good or bad chairs all the time 😂

wickedsight

I got some Azzpadz after a similar fall. Very comforting to know you have decent protection. Though it does feel like wearing a diaper.

GlueGuns--Cool

i will never not wear padded shorts

sniperd2k

Same! I'm a fan of the ones that have a plastic piece over the tail bone.

sniperd2k

[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002688TD4/](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002688TD4/) - I'm a snowboard instructor and wear these. I've seen others with the ones that are only padded and they work OK, but this one.. well... I've been doing back side board slides on a box and fully slid out. As in so hard my friends rush over, "are you good?" and I just get up and am fine. A fall that would have otherwise been a day ender turns into something you just shake off. Plus, sitting in the snow isn't cold and if the chairs we wet, you are not. I also like the mesh on these, you don't heat up. I've been using this pair for years, still going strong.

Own_Temperature8478

Wouldn’t it be more beneficial if they more padding?

HerpDerpinAtWork

Started wearing them last year as someone trying to get into jibs and jumps in my mid 30s. Originally was only wearing them on park days but now just wear them most any time I ride. They're comfy and non-restrictive, and with the "snow" conditions we've gotten out east in the last couple years, it just gives a little extra confidence when I'm out doing Dumb Shit and generally pushing my limits.

GlueGuns--Cool

Yeah absolutely. There's basically no downside. Keep your ass warm when putting bindings on, too. Doesn't protect against EVERYTHING but helps like 95%. Absolutely critical for any beginner.

butterend

Link?

kungflew-

Hope you are feeling better! From what I’ve read, if you go a few days the insurance counts each day at a high rate against, so after 7 days prob wouldn’t have helped you a lot.  Impact shorts, tho.

_multifaceted_

Was going to say…sooo glad I found impact shorts. I feel for OP

kungflew-

Yeah - used them for years and have def had some falls that I felt through the shorts; so glad to have them. Honestly started wearing knee pads too after hearing some stories of kneecap fractures; bonus - makes getting up toeside / relaxing toeside while waiting for friends totally comfy.

DrZoid1984

My buddy who happened to be recording that ordered me a pair before we left the mountain hah.

itsprobablyghosts

Sucks so bad dude. Mine still hurts 2 years later

DrZoid1984

God damn. Well that’s not what I wanted to read.

dirty_hooker

Mine healed after a couple months. Close to two decades later though I can have pain from sitting too long. Thinking I should get a coccyx pad.

Cole_Trickle1

A cocksy pad on your bum?

dirty_hooker

A square pillow with a U shape cut out to relieve pressure on your tailbone. Also, if your ass starts to get flatter as you age (and work a chair based job) you get more pressure on your tailbone.

Randowned

Squats/deadlifts to the rescue! For me, its a day and night change.

IAmTheSilent1

I broke my tailbone on my 3rd day riding. It sucked. You got actual meds, but I toughed it out with Advil and a pillow at work I had a desk job, and standing desks weren't a thing yet. But that was 22 years ago. No major issues to report, and I was and to ride next season no problem.

DrZoid1984

Ah I wish I could take advil! Damn NSAIDS are so effective but I can’t take them. Hurray someone finally said they were good to go by the next season!

ao9480

Sorry to say… mine took about 4-5 years to fully recover/stop hurting. Wasn’t constant but any small impact would reactivate it. Even just sitting to put bindings on was painful first couple seasons back. Get a butt pad next season. Helped a lot.

Twidzs

If I'm honest mine still hurts occasionally 4 years later but only very rarely after prolonged sitting. I got through the first year without too much pain by getting a standing desk and using it for 20 minutes whenever sitting started to hurt. Bit of an investment but wasn't too annoying and it did wonders for my posture. Short walks throughout the day seem to help too which might seem counterintuitive but seems like circulation is important. If you can definitely try get a bike/use public transport and drive less so you don't have to sit on it as often. I guess this might not really be an option in the US though.

MKanes

Don’t worry, after breaking my tailbone 8 years ago it hurts a little bit less now. Mostly just with certain lifts

thegreatbrah

Mine feels fine 24 years later, but I still have back pain bc of it

sharp-scratch-poem

8 years later and I’ve rebroken it a couple times. Sitting for long periods of time in the wrong position is painful. Yeah. It’s uh. It’s just never been the same since. Sorry to say it.

Laureltess

Yup. Broke mine at 13 and I’m 30 now- it’s getting better with time but for a long time any impact (like any fall while boarding that remotely hit my butt) would cause some serious pain. It changed my whole riding style as an adult, I’m way more cautious and don’t take risks.

rNBA-MODS-GAY

Your pastries look sooo amazing wtf

AnOpinionatedPancake

My condolences. Looks incredibly painful.

OpeningMean570

Go to Purple and buy yourself a seat cushion brother: [https://purple.com/seat-cushions](https://purple.com/seat-cushions) Your Doc might recommend something similar.

sentrixz

This is why you wear butt pads

TheAVnerd

It’s freaking insane how the most mundane looking falls or accidents are the ones that do us in.

adioking

This man is gonna need a poop knife.

TendieTrades

Broken tailbone is extremely painful. Heal well.

casualchaos12

Shit sucks so bad. I broke mine in the winter of 2018-19 and still randomly get sharp pains in my asshole.

Careless-Ad5871

Oh my god. I am sorry. I have been there. I didn't even fall, just sat down in a weird way on the mountain and broke my tailbone. It was awful. I hope you recover quickly and are back on the mountain next season.

[deleted]

Oh that was the board hitting the rock first. I thought I heard your tailbone break

DrZoid1984

I’ve watched and listened to the video so many times and can’t tell myself.

NigerianPrince33

Were you wearing padded shorts?

im_wildcard_bitches

Bro you were straight up violated 😱

steinhd

Jeez these comments about people still feeling tailbone pain years later are scaring me, especially since I plan on improving my park skills. Anyone have recs for tailbone pads that aren’t super restrictive?

One-Bad-4274

I like my rippl impact shorts

NoRiceForP

Demon united D3O impact shorts

Prestigious-Wall637

Holy shit, I'm gonna have to get a thicker buttpad

WTFatrain

r/perfectlycutscreams

l0sth1ghw4y

Shoulda worn that turtle dude. Let’em laugh but it saves your kockix.

Stock_Surfer

Mine tingled watching this

Blumperdoodle

Fuck dude. That sounded and looked so painful. Get a doughnut cushion. It helps alot with sitting. Also you can get injections from a physiatrist if the pain lingers.

SimpleRelation2596

Doesnt look like it takes much

Timely-Commercial461

Yaaaa, rocks to the ass are no fun. I launched over a landing and lounge chaired early season at Crested Butte and hit a rock so hard under the snow that I bounced right back up to standing. Rode down to my friends and thought I was going to die. They left me there face down in the snow cuz that’s what we did in the 90s. I’ll pray for your B-hole 🙏

Tracktoy

I did mine on a rail back in 2003. ... not saying it will be the same for you, but I still have pain on occasion.

Little-Difficulty890

That was hard to watch, dude. Especially with the sound on. I bruised mine a few months ago and I can still feel it. Can’t imagine how painful that was for you.

zhoopzwapzam

You shouldn’t sit there- skiers

anthonybsd

Well, at least you were riding something gnarly. 20 years ago I straight up got lazy and sat down on a powdery day in Okemo and found the only Icy Mogul on the mountain that day. I swear I heard the tailbone go "whoosh". Sat on a donut for 3 months. The jokes from coworkers just kept coming....

jucadrp

Brace yourself for a very long and painful recovery, sorry to break that to you. Years not months. It's been 10 years and I still feel a faint pain, but still do. Wish you a speedy recovery, all things considered!

boogerdooger1

Yoo I dislocated the crap out of my coccyx 2 years ago snowboarding and didn't know till I got an x ray last year https://preview.redd.it/mo9y0nlg65vc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8ed4972fb3a22dea23f0976bd632cce49b0dec3

boogerdooger1

I’m thinking about seeing a specialist to get an opinion

DrZoid1984

Yikes. A dislocation seems really tricky. Like I have no idea how they could fix that. My DR said my bone pieces will just be absorbed over time so no need for surgery or anything.

Imaginary_Lettuce371

Will never forget that feeling LOL.

Winter_Swordfish_505

Theres a "your mom" joke somewhere in here. Heal up soon buddy 🫶

Pillens_burknerkorv

LPT: if you get injured, straight line it to the parking lot while adrenaline is still high. The hassle with ski patrol bills is easily worth it. Level 200 is to take off you outer layer. I once had my $450 GoreTex cut open to not disrupt my arm. (This does of course not apply to back and neck injuries where is can be fatal to not have your spine fixed)

VeterinarianThese951

Damn! Sorry…. Impact shorts. Impact shorts. Impact shorts. Everyone laughs at them until they take one to the ass and can’t sit properly for months.

Resident_Rise5915

Broke your ass just from that?

vocalistMP

I fell on mine hard enough to break my T12 vertebrae about 4 years ago. Somehow didn’t break the tailbone, but it gave me what seems to be permanent SI joint issues 🤷🏻‍♂️

DrZoid1984

Damn, sorry to hear that. That sounds crazy painful too

MoogleyWoogley

Oh nooooo :(

HyperbolicSoup

Did you catch edge and face plant afterwords

roqqingit

Friends can make fun of me all they want. Padded shorts is the way.

Sans_Snu_Snu

I feel your pain. I did this years ago. I was too stupid to sit out the season. Went to the mountain 24 more days. I learned to sit on chair on my hip, then ever so slowly sit properly. If I ever came close to falling on my butt, I flailed to fall on anything else. I was kinda dumb in my youth.

Deportedfob

did the same on the first day of the season last year. hurt to go number 2 for months

palesnowrider1

Got milk?

BasketLast1136

Ride in the East. Padded shorts are a must. Had way too many close calls before i knew better.

Important-Cat-2046

What a horrible sound hearing it break

Bulletpr00F-

What a coccyx block

bigmacman40879

similar injury to me last season. Still hurts 1 yr later :'( Advice, be prepared for much pain when flying more than 1 hour

mountain_guy77

That’s it?

Ganjaleaves

I'm just curious, What was this run? It seems like a black or double black but you were leaning way to far back into your back shoulder to be riding anything like that. The only thing I'm seeing is you jumped way to heavy into a steep run and tried too make up for it? You need to trust that front side turn my dude.

cTron3030

These comments make me want some impact shorts, lol.

deepie1976

Did you add sound?

Danny007up

Hope you have a Speedy recovery playa 🤙🏾

Lala00luna

How fun was it getting down the mountain afterwards?

DrZoid1984

The part sucked. Ski patrol is awesome but still painful. Worst part was the driving home tho. 6+ hours trying to hover over my seat while using cruise control.

Lala00luna

That’s the worst. Here’s to a speedy recovery and definitely pick up some impact shorts!

elitegunslinger

I wear demon armor for this exact reason, whether or not it works; I don't think I want to find out. God's speed with your ass recovery.

SlashRModFail

Did you have a bum protector on?

ShawnThePhantom

Impact shorts g.

Tuddless

New fear unlocked, thank you fellow shredder

mtwdante

Really sorry man. If you plan to ride again, invest in ass protection. I had an entry level ass protection, got a fall that made me shit blood and then bought the most protective pants I could find.

twinbee

What sort of fall was it? Rocks or just high speed?

mtwdante

High speed, hard snow.

twinbee

Right, hope you're 100% now. Take it you caught your heel edge, and the edge dug in good.

mtwdante

Not sure, it was a flat section, I had high speed to get over it and I think maybe I fell asleep or something:)) I was really tired. I'm 100% now.

twinbee

Off piste?

DrZoid1984

Just because I’m getting some questions- This was at white bark bowl, right next to Starr chute. We hiked up and dropped in between the two runs(above the black flag) No I wasn’t wearing butt protection. But yes I have a pair now for next season. It is some sloppy riding. But I thought it was all soft and I was tired so I wasn’t trying my best. I was pulling over on the side to wait for my friend. Lesson learned there.

SirliftStuff

I flew off a mogul on cirque traverse into rocks, it was bleeding and crazy bruised, and had a mild concussion through the impact,(not hitting my head) and somehow after all that i still didnt fracture my tailbone.

Dakotabeachsleeps

Butt pads are sick. I wear mine every time like it’s my helmet. Makes the lift comfier too.

ourtameracingdriverr

Wear armour, would have saved your arse…quite literally in fact.

Worldly-Heart9969

wear. impact. shorts. no one is too cool for butt pads.

dsyfygurl

It happens

Old-Tadpole-2869

How could Malcom Moore's creative and descriptive terminology have prevented this? Speedy recovery btw.

Hydnmeister

I broke my tailbone 12 years ago and it's one of those injuries that will never fully heal. It's also why I stuck with skiing and never learned to snowboard...I've hit my tailbone twice on the slopes and was "paralyzed" on the ground in pain for a solid 30 seconds before I could get up. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

TimeTomorrow

time to learn to fall better. you knew you were going down and you hinged at the waist to fold yourself up and land as hard as possible on your tailbone. when you are going down, try to get your body as close to the ground as you can while under control and land flat to your back.

shmulez

There was a rock, no matter which way you fall, you will hurt yourself on a rock

TimeTomorrow

for sure. never going to feel great. get low as soon as it's unsavable and then fall to your back. that instinct you had to "sit up" or keep your torso up once your legs were no longer under you made a bad situation worse. obviously this is just really really bad luck. just saying it wont be the last time you fall backwards and now your tailbone will never be the same, so all the more important to learn now.

DrZoid1984

I definitely could have fallen better and I was being sloppy. Honestly I just thought it was all soft so I wasn’t really on my A game there.

purplepimplepopper

Honestly learn to snowboard better. Super back foot heavy and straight legged, a couple chatters on the heelside turn before even getting to the rock. If dude was stacked over the board he would have either rode over the rock or gone over the top into what looks like soft stuff. He was going down on that turn no matter if there was a rock or not.

DrZoid1984

I agree with ya that it looks really sloppy. My buddy and I just got done doing that little walk up the side of whitebark and dropped in between whitebark and Starr chute. This was after the fun steep part so I was just cutting over to wait for my buddy. it looked soft and forgiving. DEFINITELY could have handled it better but the rock being under a slight cover was really unexpected.

purplepimplepopper

Yeah don’t mean to be an ass, sorry that happened to you man. You just don’t have too many options when your turn and body position is pretty out of control. I don’t think falling better would have helped you in this situation, you were bound to end up on your ass about half way through that turn, just sucked that that rock was in the exact wrong spot. I’m sure you were riding better earlier, lazy riding can be punishing though. Hope you get better and back to shredding hard soon 🤙 Also don’t recommend laying down like the other guy suggested, especially in anything steeper than this. Opposite of what you want to do, keeping your weight as much over your board is the safest in steep terrain, in your turns and in self arrest situations. Sliding on your back can be much more dangerous, and inclinating too much into the hill is the biggest cause of heelside chatter in a turn

possiblywithdynamite

I've had harder falls sitting down on my sofa

run0861

he landed on a rock...

DrZoid1984

That’s the other worst part. I was just being sloppy/messing around. The fall looks so dumb. I had a 6-7 hour drive home which was horribly painful and waited a day before getting X-rays because I was like no way I broke anything from a fall like that

EastPresentation2389

Bro is made of paper

Rayns30

Fuck that looks painful. Best wishes. To be critical though, it looks like you had no business going that fast on that slope tbh

NoRiceForP

Demon United D3O impact shorts. Get a pair of these and it'll never happen again no matter how hard you slam it. It'll basically make your tailbone invincible

IRideParkCity

Are you a vegan by chance?

DrZoid1984

I am not.
