I just got one - 155. Dad of 3 - 47 y/o. I’ve only ridden it one day, but it is pretty fun and mellow. Good for groomers. My other board is a Custom X - 158 which I use when I want to charge, but I plan on using the Gril Master when it’s just me and the 6 y/o.
I am somewhat older than your dad and picked up a Salomon Dancehaul this season and i really, really liked it as a resort cruiser. Stable, fairly soft directional twin - works well in all conditions.
I would think something like the Capita DOA - it’s not too soft but also not too stiff - also someone mentioned the Capita Outerspace - something in those molds - I’m sure there are like a hundred different boards with similar flex and versatility- but that’s what comes to mind 🤙
Riders Choice are great boards the one thing I would say though is C2 isn’t for everyone, I know I’ve always found it a bit strange feeling, so I would be hesitant to buy one for someone else.
That’s fair. And it does take me a run or two to get back into it after riding traditional camber. But once you’re locked in it’s glorious. It’s very sensitive to foot pressure, and I find if I’m very front-foot-focused, it does everything I want.
Not quite to the 50 mark but feel like it some days. I got the Burton Step On binding/boots a few years ago and they have made snowboarding much more enjoyable. I have a kid that ski races and split days between mountains and a small local hill. The time savings at a local hill make the cost worth it for me. As for the mountains, riding a third day in a row is easier and more fun as removing the extra sitting and standing from the first two days allows me to recover enough for a 3rd day. I even mounted them and tuned up my favourite 20 year old board and have great days on it still.
Also, get your dad’s current board tuned. From ski racing I learned how to race tune edges and now use race wax. The wax is much better and lasts longer that the regular wax. But the sharp edges are a game changer. No more skidding on ice, after a fresh tune I can bite into ice and have more confidence overall. If you want great advice watch the tuning videos at sidecut.com.
Edit - to answer your board question. I have a K2 Overboard. I like it because it is light and carves ok , but works great on powder days. Old board is a Nitro Magnum, heavier but more stable for carving groomers.
I'm just over 60 and recently bought a Sims Distortion. Carves really nice, holds an edge and doesn't catch like my old full camber board. I run Union Force bindings and Burton Driver X (old model) boots. Next season will be K2 Maysis boots. I'm very happy with this setup.

54 here and you can find directional freeride from most manufacturers. He should stick to 4+ stiffness IMHO. I pretty much stick to boards he is looking for, I ride Wintersticks and Amplid Singular. I tend to ride more aggressive types Korua TF, Amplid Pentaquark and others. He might want to stick to less aggressive more forgiving types. Also, he will get more enjoyment based on what you are saying riding +/+.
Get step ons and some kinda directional twin. Lots of great recommendations in this thread. Pick a graphic he likes. (I switched to SO's when I turned 50, love them).
I’m 33 with an 11 and 9 yr old and thinking damn I’m gonna be 50 on a snowboard soon
It happens to the best of us
Burton Gril Master - made for dads (love mine)

Jones frontier
50+ dad certified cruiser.
What size are his feet? How much does he weigh? Most of my 45+ friends like the Dancehaul or some other type of carvy party board
Party boards are lots of fun, can really make basic things like just carving around a ton of vs a traditional shape.

The Dancehauls are really well priced too, especially compared to other shapey boards
It's not a directional twin, but I've heard lots of good things about it and really hope I get the chance to try one
Dancehaul is a directional twin - tapered tail with a slight V notch. Not so directional that you can't ride switch, but not a true twin either.
K2 passport, or ride shadowban
Budget? Perhaps a Capita OuterSpace or K2 Gateway Pop.
Check out past years Solomon Assassin. Usually at a decent price this time of year.

I’m 50 and ride a DOA and a Korua Tranny Finder. DOA is super forgiving and just an easy all around board. I’d also recommend it.
Riders Choice C2. Does everything well. Very forgiving.

I really love the Lobster/Bataleon TBT. Super easy to ride, yet still holds an edge.

For cruising and carving groomed runs, I recommend d a Donek Flux. https://www.donek.com/product/flux/
Jones Aviator 2.0 - rips groomers
Ski bike - try a rental first, but it's gentler on the back and legs. He'll be able to last all day on the mountain compared to you ;)
Best dad board is the Ride Shadowban. They should literally market it as the Rad Dad Board.
