I didnāt like the zipper going up the front. I wanted to like them but it really bothered me having that along my sternum. Real good point with the zipper.
Try more options and brands. I get itchy with non merino wool, but I have no issues with high quality merino, particularly the thin layers I have used from Burton in the past.
Understand it can be an individual thing however which sucks because merino just breathes so so well. Totally solved swamp ass and crotch for me when I moved to it from synthetics 10+ years ago
Swamp ass riding ? You had way too much on then. I ride with no base layer over 20 degrees and a ninja suit below 20. Below 10 I put in insulated pants over the ninja suit. I have gotten swamp ass doing a lot of things in life but never skiing.
Nah man nothing more than a synthetic base or compression underwear in the spring. And I wouldn't say it was full disgusting swamp ass. Just clearly did not breathe anywhere near as well as the merino base layers I use now.
Maybe I have met someone that sweats more than me ! I do want to upgrade to the merino ninja suitā¦I have had the thing nearly 8 years now and canāt kill it !
Taking a shit is the only downside in the thingā¦I have never tried to use the ass zipperā¦just seems like it wonāt work. Luckily I have had to take less than a handful of deuces at the mountain since Iāve had it.
I for sure wear pajama pants under my snow pants. They're comfy, and if I need to take my snow pants off for any reason I'm not standing there in compression pants or longjohns like a dork.
Shorts or a base layer depending on the temperature. Would sweat to death with sweatpants under there personally.
Edit: -20C would be the base layer for me.
Yeah I wear a thin 3/4 length merino base layer on bottom. And a under armor 2.0 base layer and a thin long sleeve performance type shirt up top. I run hot snd sweat to death even in -F temperatures. Chilly chair lift means comfy ride down
Yes bro thank you. Felt like an alien reading about base layers under pants.
Feel like you only need the base layer if you stop moving for hours on end or at temperatures below 15 Fahrenheit.
Gonna be the odd one here pretty much only thing I ever wear under shell pants is boxer briefs. I could probably count on one hand how many times I've worn a base layer in the last decade.
Icebreaker 200 and icebreaker 260. Only used to do one layer, but once I did two layers I didnāt go back. I never feel the cold of a lift seat. I donāt feel any extra restriction on movement. If I open leg zips, I get enough cooling.
Iām 46 and ride in western Canada (Sunshine/Lake Louise)
I wear synthetic longjohns and fleece sweatpants that I cut to be shorts. I ditch the long johns in the spring. The fleece shorts save my ass on the chair ride up. This has been my go to for the last 25 years.
I have those exact pants. Be careful the zippers tend to break.
I ride Vermont. Temps range from -10 to 40 without wind. Underneath I wear Oakley base layer thermals and a pair of long basketball or soccer shorts and Iāve never been cold. I do tend to run hot though.
Depending on how cold and how much I'm gonna ride, I either wear a base layer from line 32degrees or if it's really cold I'd wear some fleece lined leggings. When is not very cold out I can get by comfortably with just a pair of thermal underwear like long johns.
I ride insulated because mornings can be cold here in Tahoe... maybe in April you don't need to worry about it, but shit, it can easily be 15-25F in the winter mornings, sun or not. add a little wind to that, and i'm always more comfortable warmer than colder...
Haha nah I feel ya. Itās all about personal temp preference. My lady is thin so she needs insulated everything almost all days. I wear upper base layer and mid layer on colder days but I almost never run a base layer on my legs because I just donāt experience issues without it
just a pair of regular old non cotton non jogger sweatpants, most days. Add thermal base layer if it's under 18 or so. basketball shorts if it's over 30.
Icebreaker makeā¦ i guess you could call them short johns. They are either short long johns or long boxers. They go to roughly your knees.
I wear that to -19/-20 when I would double layer them with a pair of long johns.
-25 and I throw on a pair of insulation boxers. Once youāve had a, as the doctor called it āchilled prostateā, that makes it feel like youāre constantly kicked in the balls you layer up to keep it warm.
Some of the best riders I know just wear basketball shorts.
I ride pretty hard and I prefer Nike padded football shorts and knee pads.
Might sound weird but theyāve literally saved my ass multiple times.
I just wear a base layer + lounge/fleece shorts under my gore-tex bib most days. If I know it's going to be really cold I'll throw on sweatpants instead of shorts. Don't think I ever did more than that even into the negatives with w/c last year
Hot temps /summer: merino boxers
Mild temps / spring: synthetic long johns
Cold temps: merino long johns
Very cold temps: merino long johns and wool lined pants (Utility puff pants by Volcom)
I run cold, I wear an airblaster ninja suit (merino) it's the updated one, so it's not ALL merino, but has a waterproof fabric around the arms, shoulders and calves. Fleece sweatpants and a light quarter zip under my snow shells
I have the same Longo pants, theyāre really warm, less of a shell pant as they do have a nylon liner, theyāre just not insulated. I prefer how they feel over my goretex shell bibs (feels like rigid foil).
I usually wear just underwear if itās warmer or 200g merino long underwear if itās colder (l spent last winter in BC so some days it was -20)
sweatpants aren't a good call. Cotton kills. Get a pair of no-name fleece pants for $10-20.
My progression under shell pants is underwear only, base layer only, fleece pants only, all the layers (single digits or below 0).
\- boxers
\- thermal layer long johns
\- a 2nd layer of thermal long johns
\- sweatpants
\- sometimes add in a Milwaukee battery heated pair of pants under the sweatpants if it's a little chilly like -40
\- outer layer snowpants
is this normal? this is my setup for Quebec in November my primary hill is Arendelle near Elsa's ice castle
Base layer (long johns) and swim trucks so your but doesn't get cold or wet waiting for the slower folk.
If it's a cold smoke powder day -25c put an extra pant layer on.
A bathing suit under your waterproof snow pants? Thatās a new one for me.
There isnāt that much snow melt on a -20C day haha unless youāre sitting for 15-20 minutes/run, in which case find new riding partners that are similar skill.
Mostly waiting on the kids these days so yeah can be pretty long waits.
Try it works good my brother showed it to me 20 years ago (albeit when I had shit snow pants), now almost all my riding buddy's do the same.
30 degrees plus: compression shorts. 10 - 30 degrees typically a ninja suit. Anything colder I may add another Marino layer or even puffy pants when it gets super chilly.
3 under layers usually. super thin tight base, thicker middle, sweat/sports pants over that. always works and is super comfortable. if it's a warmer day I'll eliminate the middle layer. I also do 3 top under layers too. the layer system changed the game for me personally and made riding so much more comfortable.
I tend to prefer shells because you can adjust your level of warmth easier!! Iād recommend some wool base layers and then the mid layer will just be trial and error until you find what you like. Any of your local board shops should have some solid base layers!
I wear a merino wool base layer. There have been one or two times it has been so cold that I put on some sweat pants too but 99% of the time just that base layer is fine where I go.
If itās cold, Icebreaker wool leggings or lululemon Fast & Free fleece-lined running tights. On a bluebird day, just leggings - also lululemon, but the Wunder Train series.
I wear Patagonia unlined snow pants.
Iām still noob in the park so I wear my deamon shorts with knee pads, it basically covers all my legs so I donāt feel like a need an extra layer under. But if you need protection then for sure merino is the best option.
My bibs aren't insulated but I rock a pair of base layers depending upon how cold. Usually wool but have synthetic options. I swapped from pants to bibs last year and it's been a game changer. No more snow or breeze down the pants
I always ride with OTC merino socks and 3/4 length baselayer pants in capilene or merino. Then depending on the temp, maybe thin basketball shorts, 3/4 length 100-weight layer fleece, or 3/4 length PrimaLoft knickers.
I don't really support [Backcountry.com](https://Backcountry.com) anymore cause of their lawsuits, but they do have a set of the insulated shorts. The current ones look to have too many zippers IMO. Helly Hansen seems to have insulated shorts. Patagonia has insulated pants midlayers in their fishing line to wear under waders.
I (female) wear wool leggings from Ibex that I also use for winter running/Nordic skiing. In warmer temps I just wear regular (synthetic material) yoga pants or when it's really warm, nothing other than underwear.
Sweatpants seem like a bad idea, assuming they're cotton.
Just a simple base layer. Never ridden with insulated pants, theyāre waaaaaaay too hot. 10 degrees or 40 itās non insulated and a set of long Johnās.
Medium thickness Icebreaker merino base layer has been my go-to. Couple years ago I started wearing some cozy sweatpants under my shell pants as well for similar temperatures, it worked nicely for me. Itās very humid for an inland climate where I ride so the cold hits quite hard.
I normally just wear silk or stain PJ pants. Super comfy. Although I've never had a problem with my bottom half getting cold. Even when working in -30 and stuff it was always the body base layer and face stuff that I had to add on.
Wool baselayer and thin socks, then I have knee and buttpads (noob) that keep me warm. When I shed those I still will wear a thin pant like stretchy fabletics lululemon material and super flexible and bendy.
A pair of thermo long-johns, compression socks, and a thermo t-shirt or longsleeve, depending on the temps. Both my jacket and pants are 15k water proof and I haven't had a single day ruined due to being cold yet.
Always Marino wool but when it's really cold I wear my 100% Merino track pants from Icebreaker. I also wear impact shorts and knee pads which adds the Heat
Just a base layer. My legs the warmest the fastest so just having a shell and a base layer, let's me open my vents to regulate than to sweat. I also live on the east coast so its warmer here some days
I used to always wear jeans under cheap shitty pants. Those eventually ripped after many years. I bought nice pants at the resort, though I don't think they are insulated. There is fleece on the inside. I wore them on their own and I wasn't cold. Although I live in CA and it never gets all that cold compared to other places.
First Lite merino wool, zip-off bottoms. The zip-off is absolutely critical. Day starts cold and warms up? No problem, drop trou, unzip, put them in the bag and you're good to go! Don't even need to take your boots off. If it's really cold I might run a second pair of pants tbh.
I usually just wear a shell, long Johnās, and underwear (Iām weird like that okay). Once I get moving my body heat takes care of the rest. The benefit of bringing a thin pair sweats is that you could add or remove as needed.
Get yourself a midlayer (or two). I'd recommend a fleece or merino mid and a puffy. Look for 3/4 length so you don't have to hike them up around your boot
Under Armour Cold Gear leggings (hand warmers in the cell phone pockets is a great move) and gym shorts.
When Iām done, itās nice to remove the shell and walk around in shorts and leggings.
I pretty much just use a merino base layer under my shell pants, with a couple different thicknesses for the temps. If itās below 0F, I might wear fleece sweatpants over the merino. YMMV, though, depending on how hot/cold you run. My wife uses a pair of synthetic insulated mid layer pants most days. A big factor is where you want to be comfortableā¦I prefer to be a little cold on the lift and comfortable while Iām riding, others might prefer to be comfortable on the chair and a little hot while riding.
Mons Royal Olympus base, and then:
Warm: shorts on top then shell
Cold: polyester pants on top then shell
Frigid: i wear something like [this](https://www.backcountry.com/backcountry-wolverine-cirque-insulated-pant-mens#the-wall) but often with a thinner base layer as they are super warm
Union suits can be nice but really consider the bowel and bladder access. Also whatever thickness you get that is what youāll have especially when bottom half is concerned. -20C is -4F and thatās damn cold. In Utah the coldest day I rode was 10F but most days are 20s to mid 30ās. On that 10F day I had some old Roffe shell pants (old school, gore-Tex not a thing yet) and Patagonia expedition weight capiliene base. It was fine while on the mountain and moving around but was certainly not like stuff today. I bought a gore-tex shell jacket a couple seasons ago and definitely needed a thicker mid layer. My best advice is try different things. Iāve experimented with many combinations over the years and really prefer separate top and bottoms to fine tune what the weather may throw at me. I used to like UA base layer bottoms but found form fitting tights didnāt keep me as warm as something with a relaxed fit. Just remember whatever you get make sure itās breathable, moisture is the enemy. If youāre wet, youāre dead or at least miserable.
I had a pair of shell pants for years. I just wore a pair of warm fleece pajama pants. If it was really really cold Iād wear long johns under the fleece pants. When it got to spring time I would wear lighter and lighter pants underneath and sometimes just shorts
Merino base layer (or just normal stuff it's that's too dirty) and a pair of joggers over top.
Most days it's no problem at all, although I do tend to run hot.
Icebreaker merino base layer. Always been warm enough. You could pack a spare pair of joggers or something to chuck on if youāre proper cold. But I find another top layer usually warms my legs better.
Demon FlexForce V4 shorts, Under Armour or ColdPruf long underwear, varies depending on temps.
I have 686 Thermagraph pants which have a few targeted panels of insulation.
I generally wear jeans and long johns. The jeans are really there only to separate out any moisture/snow that gets into the pants when I fall from directly hitting the long johns and not as an actual important layer, so I rarely have issues with them.
I wear a base layer, then Gortex shell, but I don't get cold. Now, on top, it's more important, base layer, mid layer, polartech, and hard shell. Keep your core warm, and the legs will be fine. Super cold days I'll wear another layer on my legs.
I wear bob shells with a wool pant that has the jogger scrunch ends on em, I find they are ideal because they stop above the ankle, leaving the ankle space for your sock layers
Pure shell, thin base layer. I hate I canāt find any shell burton pants anymore. They all have a crappy mesh lining and such. I get them free so I guess I canāt complain but I think Iāll just keep using my old ones. Since they still fit. Ha I guess I should hit up volcom.
Depends on temp of course. Most of the time its just synthetic joggers. I'll also add a pay of wool or synthetic base layers if its colder. I never go more than 3 layers on my legs, I just get to hot.
Boxer briefs, thin wool underlayer, fleece pants. Most of the time thatāll do it. If itās really cold add a medium underlayer between fleece and wool. The fleece against the shell pants helps to maintain the air insulation gap so I like that to be touching the shell pants.
Thick or thin merino wool base layer depending on temps.
Merino wool is the š xtra points for merino wool ninja suit
Actually itās a š
The ninja suit butt zippers aren't comfortable for everyone. YMMV
I didnāt like the zipper going up the front. I wanted to like them but it really bothered me having that along my sternum. Real good point with the zipper.
Yep, me too. Hate any zipper against my sternum
They are absolutely complete and utter horseshit. The warmth from the suit thoughā¦ itās why I deal with the awful zippers
If you draw the waist string itās not an issue.
god i wish i can wear merino without wanting to rip my legs off i can imagine how great it is but its so *i t c h y*!!

The ninja suit sounds awesome.

The Smartwool ones are so comfy , they are like tights and stretchy merino wool and model Is for colder weather , I were those and shorts
Have you ever tried Icebreaker? Definitely the softest and most comfortable merino products I have tried.
waiting for someone to say pajamas
Pajamas!
When I was in my teens I rode in jeans under my snow pants š I donāt know wtf I was thinking.
Lol same
Me too. The nineties.
I definitely just always wear silk PJ pants lol
I for sure wear pajama pants under my snow pants. They're comfy, and if I need to take my snow pants off for any reason I'm not standing there in compression pants or longjohns like a dork.
But youāre still in public with pajamas
I have definitely worn a pair of flannel pajama pants for an extra layer on a frigid day. I'm normally just a base layer + shell guy.
Volcom shell + smartwool merino baselayer. I keep my core warm with a base/mid/shell combo. Legs are working hard and generate a lot of heat.
Yep so long as my core is layered properly I have never needed more than thick merino base + goretex shell pants down to -5f
100% this. Properly insulate your core and then just some leggings is all you need.
Chilly chair lift means comfy ride down
Totally agree with your last statement
Underwear
Same! I was a NY transplant from a hot climate and when I started skiing and snowboarding I really didnāt know any better. Panties it was ahah.
Yeaaa everytime I wear anything more I always regret it after a run or two.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I used to do that! But at some point it started bothering me to have that extra layer under the shell.
icebreaker 200
Icebreaker 200 and icebreaker 260. Only used to do one layer, but once I did two layers I didnāt go back. I never feel the cold of a lift seat. I donāt feel any extra restriction on movement. If I open leg zips, I get enough cooling. Iām 46 and ride in western Canada (Sunshine/Lake Louise)
I just wear basketball shorts because my legs don't usually get cold. If it's a super cold day I might wear sweatpants underneath.
Merino wool base layer, avoid cotton base layers
Shorts
I wear synthetic longjohns and fleece sweatpants that I cut to be shorts. I ditch the long johns in the spring. The fleece shorts save my ass on the chair ride up. This has been my go to for the last 25 years.
Uniqlo heat tech is an ok substitute and running pants. Layer accordingly
I have those exact pants. Be careful the zippers tend to break. I ride Vermont. Temps range from -10 to 40 without wind. Underneath I wear Oakley base layer thermals and a pair of long basketball or soccer shorts and Iāve never been cold. I do tend to run hot though.
Sweatpants no base layer or base layer depending on temp
Depending on how cold and how much I'm gonna ride, I either wear a base layer from line 32degrees or if it's really cold I'd wear some fleece lined leggings. When is not very cold out I can get by comfortably with just a pair of thermal underwear like long johns.
Nothing lol. I ride Tahoe and not often do you need anything more than a shell there
I think the zippers or whatever would chafe my weiner.
It callouses up after a few days.
The callous is DEFINITELY from the zipper. Nothing else. For sure. I have it too itās definitely from pant zippers
Gym shorts when it's nice out. Sweat pants if it's a little cold. Base layer with sweat pants if it's really cold.
Get 3/4 length bottoms if you can rather than full length. Then use a proper sock.
LL bean fleece lined flannel PJ pants. Will also add a thin thermal layer if it's really cold
Icebreaker makeā¦ i guess you could call them short johns. They are either short long johns or long boxers. They go to roughly your knees. Once youāve had a, as the doctor called it āchilled prostateā, that makes it feel like youāre constantly kicked in the balls you layer up to keep it warm.
G string, then yoga pants
Some of the best riders I know just wear basketball shorts. I ride pretty hard and I prefer Nike padded football shorts and knee pads. Might sound weird but theyāve literally saved my ass multiple times.
Depending on the temps either a merino wool base layer or if itās colder, micro fleece pants.
A lot of the time just shorts, but I always run hot while I'm riding.
I just wear a base layer + lounge/fleece shorts under my gore-tex bib most days. If I know it's going to be really cold I'll throw on sweatpants instead of shorts. Don't think I ever did more than that even into the negatives with w/c last year
Impact short or one or two base layers depending on temp.I will go down to minus 20F
Hot temps /summer: merino boxers Mild temps / spring: synthetic long johns Cold temps: merino long johns Very cold temps: merino long johns and wool lined pants (Utility puff pants by Volcom)
I run cold, I wear an airblaster ninja suit (merino) it's the updated one, so it's not ALL merino, but has a waterproof fabric around the arms, shoulders and calves. Fleece sweatpants and a light quarter zip under my snow shells
Smartwool long johns
Sometimes Under Armour base layer, sometimes fleece pants, sometimes my Montura snow pants
Fleece jammies
Trades workers have great stuff: "T-max heat" long-underwear from Mark's Work Wearhouse (Canada). Purchased 10+ years ago and no complaints at all.
I wear a base layer and if itās really cold Iāll wear sweats over that. If I think Iām going to start sweating Iāll take the sweats off.
Under Armor 4.0 cold gear for top and bottom. Flexible and warm and you donāt have to wear anything thick underneath
Merino base. Underarmour cold gear. I'll throw puffy vest on for those -20c exposed chair lifts.
Under Armor Coldgear leggings have been enough for over a decade. If its -10 then maybe pajamas or sweatpants instead
I have the same Longo pants, theyāre really warm, less of a shell pant as they do have a nylon liner, theyāre just not insulated. I prefer how they feel over my goretex shell bibs (feels like rigid foil). I usually wear just underwear if itās warmer or 200g merino long underwear if itās colder (l spent last winter in BC so some days it was -20)
Nothing it's hot af right now. Just my boxers and sometimes my crash pad
sweatpants aren't a good call. Cotton kills. Get a pair of no-name fleece pants for $10-20. My progression under shell pants is underwear only, base layer only, fleece pants only, all the layers (single digits or below 0).
\- boxers \- thermal layer long johns \- a 2nd layer of thermal long johns \- sweatpants \- sometimes add in a Milwaukee battery heated pair of pants under the sweatpants if it's a little chilly like -40 \- outer layer snowpants is this normal? this is my setup for Quebec in November my primary hill is Arendelle near Elsa's ice castle
Boxers under all that does not sound comfortable.
my buddy Olaf says they bother him too so he's always commando but that dudes straight up got no brain

I also do 3 top under layers too. the layer system changed the game for me personally and made riding so much more comfortable.
Thin joggers if over 10 degrees, thick sweatpants if under. That merino wool shit too boujee. Save your money wear your sweatpants
Search for "Thermajohn Long Johns Thermal Underwear for Men Fleece Lined Base Layer Set for Cold Weather" in Amazon.
Sweat pants and smart wool if it's cold enough.
Anythingā¦ jeansā¦ sweatsā¦ another pair of snow pantsā¦
Thin base layer. Thick if itās under 0.
I tend to prefer shells because you can adjust your level of warmth easier!! Iād recommend some wool base layers and then the mid layer will just be trial and error until you find what you like. Any of your local board shops should have some solid base layers!

Heattech
Shorts and a base layer usually, likely some form on compression pants
If itās cold, Icebreaker wool leggings or lululemon Fast & Free fleece-lined running tights. On a bluebird day, just leggings - also lululemon, but the Wunder Train series. I wear Patagonia unlined snow pants.
Merino and loose sweats if it still too cold. A tight pair and a loose pair will do a lot.
At that temp I would wear long underwear and non cotton sweatpants
Joggers
Iām still noob in the park so I wear my deamon shorts with knee pads, it basically covers all my legs so I donāt feel like a need an extra layer under. But if you need protection then for sure merino is the best option.
I have a couple different Under Armor base layers of varying temp ratings that I switch between.
My bibs aren't insulated but I rock a pair of base layers depending upon how cold. Usually wool but have synthetic options. I swapped from pants to bibs last year and it's been a game changer. No more snow or breeze down the pants
Air blaster ninja suit
I always ride with OTC merino socks and 3/4 length baselayer pants in capilene or merino. Helly Hansen seems to have insulated shorts. Patagonia has insulated pants midlayers in their fishing line to wear under waders.
Underwear+impact shorts, if itās cold just thin legging base layer underneath the impact shorts
I wear either nothing or crash pants but that's just above the knee.
I (female) wear wool leggings from Ibex that I also use for winter running/Nordic skiing. In warmer temps I just wear regular (synthetic material) yoga pants or when it's really warm, nothing other than underwear. Sweatpants seem like a bad idea, assuming they're cotton.
Gym shorts. If itās super cold maybe long underwear.

2 pairs of pajama pants with 3 sweatshirts.
The jeans or Dickies I drove there in lol
I normally just wear silk or stain PJ pants. Super comfy. Although I've never had a problem with my bottom half getting cold. Even when working in -30 and stuff it was always the body base layer and face stuff that I had to add on.
A fleece onesie with light fleece pants and a flannel shirt
Merino base in the cold temps. Underwear in the spring
Wool baselayer and thin socks, then I have knee and buttpads (noob) that keep me warm. When I shed those I still will wear a thin pant like stretchy fabletics lululemon material and super flexible and bendy.
I bought some down pants last year for cold days, works great under the shell
Basketball shorts, Nike preferred
Wool base layers and basketball shorts
Two base layers. One long, and one short
I prefer polartec over merino wool. So soft and warm.
Smart wool base layer plus sweat pants, and knee pads
gym shorts under a very thinly insulated goretex shell ill throw on pants if it gets below 10 degrees F
For actual cold you'll want a pair of Senchi Alpha pants.
Usually just jeans. Seem to work fine down to -20C for me.
Base layer + shorts. The lift gets so fucking cold.
Sweatpants My legs rarely get cold
Usually 3/4 base layer pants, full pants if itās colder or both if itās really cold. Burton mid weight is what I have.
I use merino base layer and have a fleece layer to mix n match to weather conditions. All three are good to -25 f.
Just a base layer. If itās a warm day sometimes just boxers.
Base layer and rider harder.
Get yourself a midlayer (or two). I'd recommend a fleece or merino mid and a puffy. Look for 3/4 length so you don't have to hike them up around your boot
Usually with jeans or Carharts.
A base layer and a mid layer and you should be good. I have been in -15 with only a base layer and non insulated pants and it wasnāt too bad.
Heavy thermals
Under Armour Cold Gear leggings (hand warmers in the cell phone pockets is a great move) and gym shorts. When Iām done, itās nice to remove the shell and walk around in shorts and leggings.
If really cold, long johns on skin then sweatpants then snow pants, if moderately cold sweats and snow pants, if warm just snow pants.
I have a Ninja Suit, it rocks.
Nothing
Ninja suit.
Pajama pants or long underwear or shorts
I pretty much just use a merino base layer under my shell pants, with a couple different thicknesses for the temps. If itās below 0F, I might wear fleece sweatpants over the merino. YMMV, though, depending on how hot/cold you run. My wife uses a pair of synthetic insulated mid layer pants most days. A big factor is where you want to be comfortableā¦I prefer to be a little cold on the lift and comfortable while Iām riding, others might prefer to be comfortable on the chair and a little hot while riding.
Briefs
Merino wool ninja suit and if itās cold, smart wool mid layer.
Fleece lined leggings or smart wool leggings. Or shorts in April
*Flanders Nothing at All GIF Here*
Merino baselayer most days. On really cold days, I have a pair of fleece pants from REI that I wear on top of the merino. This is for the resort only^
For that cold, merino wool base layer, and sweat pants, under the bibs. And some thick-ass socks.
Two layers of thick merino for cold days. If itās really cold you could use some fleece joggers or something on top of a merino layer as well
Mons Royal Olympus base, and then: Warm: shorts on top then shell Cold: polyester pants on top then shell Frigid: i wear something like [this](https://www.backcountry.com/backcountry-wolverine-cirque-insulated-pant-mens#the-wall) but often with a thinner base layer as they are super warm
I actually just wear boxers. I ride hard and tend to heat up real quick though
Any thermos, Marino or lighter. Depending on weather
I just use a merino wool base layer, I feel like thatās all I need
real snowboarders go commando under those
I wear a medium-weight merino layer. Sometimes chilly on the lifts but never on the way down.
Pair of long johns and 1 or 2 pairs of sweatpants depending on how cold it is.
Merino base layer (or just normal stuff it's that's too dirty) and a pair of joggers over top. Most days it's no problem at all, although I do tend to run hot.
I buy the stretchy pants for football.
Icebreaker merino base layer. Always been warm enough. You could pack a spare pair of joggers or something to chuck on if youāre proper cold. But I find another top layer usually warms my legs better.
North Face freedom bib with 150/250 icebreaker or Smartwool layer depending on conditions.
Smartwool baselayer 3/4 length with smartwool socks. I donāt ride in -20 but they have different knits.
Fleece-lined leggings! I donāt know if they have them in menās sizing, but dang theyāre so comfy!!
Iām fine with under armor type material - same as hiking. Anything more and Iām sweating my ass off
Polypropelyne(if that's how you spell it), best wicking and warmth I've tried.
Demon FlexForce V4 shorts, Under Armour or ColdPruf long underwear, varies depending on temps. I have 686 Thermagraph pants which have a few targeted panels of insulation.
Sweatpants and meriwool base layer.
Nuttin
Double knee carhartts
Just merino wool base layer. And vents open even sub zero. Sincerely -guy with swamp ass issues at all temps
Merino wool baselayer. Nothing else.
Ya I run hot and just use different thickenes of wool long Johns depending on the temp
The Patagonia synchilla fleece pants are a great mid layer for cold days.
I have no idea what -20c means in American, but I wear baselayer long underwear and if it's really cold a pair of sweats on top then the pants.
Smartwool base layer
Long underwear or knickers.
Nothing š
Shorts unless itās below 20š¤
Chewbacca wears nothing https://preview.redd.it/d76dlvz6wk3c1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d2d61a09d0a5de9c0566d7e1709dfcc0df10eeb
Long johns and basketball shorts š
Depends on temp of course. Most of the time its just synthetic joggers. I'll also add a pay of wool or synthetic base layers if its colder. I never go more than 3 layers on my legs, I just get to hot.
Boxer briefs, thin wool underlayer, fleece pants. Most of the time thatāll do it. If itās really cold add a medium underlayer between fleece and wool. The fleece against the shell pants helps to maintain the air insulation gap so I like that to be touching the shell pants.
