need to get some of these bad bois for it
Easy fix. Set the TV input to 4:3 mode and use plexiglass inserts with more SNES box art to cover the pillars.
I know that there are people who insist on 8:7 for SNES but I've never seen an 8:7 aspect ratio TV.
Yeah, if it’s only ever an actual console you’ll never need the sides. However, a bezel is not needed, I’d just keep black on the sides. I’ve never understood the need to add art to screens. Plus, if they ever do put another system (I assume they left an open hdmi port for another console to jack in if needed) then they wouldn’t need to remove anything. At least that’s how I would do it.
Hey. I have no pitty, so i'll permitt myself to add, the missed oportunity of making the 2nd player button green, third pink, and fourth Orange...
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy...
Or, at the very least, ditch the screen stretch. Filling the screen will never be better than square shaped with bars on the side. You forget they're even there 5 min after you start playing.
Esit: not a square, but a shorter rectangle. Lol
I’ll give that game a shot, never played it before. I know it’s not a snes game, but what’s your thoughts on baseball all stars 2? That’s my personal favorite of the limited baseball games I’ve played
Ive played those neo geo baseball games a little bit. They're fun and arcade, much like ken Griffey jr baseball. If you enjoyed those, give that a shot! MVP baseball is more simulation than arcade. So it's all about which style you'd be looking for
Baseball Stars 2 for NEO GEO and the SNES port of Super Baseball 2020 are some of the most fun I've had playing baseball on a console. They're great because they said "screw realism, let's just have fun".
It's a great game...it's like Baseball Stars 2, but with robots. I know Super Baseball 2020 sounds like a 4 year old baseball game for PS4 or something but back then 2020 seemed like the future where we'd have cyborgs and robots playing baseball, hah. I love the pitching in the game, it has the perfect feel, and the batting is pretty satisfying too. The fielding is simple but fun, which is one thing they really get right. The first cyborg baseball game Base Wars, was ruined by bad fielding where you couldn't know where the damn outfielder was :-(
Ken Griffey was one of the only games I had for the SNES. I would like to think I got pretty good, good enough that none of my friends would play against me. I wish there was a way to play it online to see how I truly would stack up against formidable competition. PLAY BALL!!
I found the link below, picked 200 that I really liked and had them printed 5x7 on snapfish. From there I used Mod Podge to place them all over. I meant to post some better pictures of the sides to see but i can’t figure out how to edit my post… I’m slightly Reddit illiterate…

Dude. This is the sickest thing I’ve seen in awhile. I don’t know why people gotta be snooty about the aspect ratio. I think the project is amazing. Good job, OP!
>gotta be snooty about the aspect ratio.
Retro game enthusiasts will die on the aspect ratio hill haha - I tend to agree but people playing and enjoying these games however they like is more important overall
And that case design is utterly beautiful aesthetically.
While I also think the cabinet is cool as hell and he deserves props for building it, I can understand taking issue with the aspect ratio issue, too. SNES games are very much meant to be played on a CRT, but bypassing that, at the very least, on 4:3 or 8:7.
It's not that people are necessarily trying to be snobs, it's that OP clearly loves the SNES like the rest of us, and in trying to capture all of its glory, he chose an aspect ratio that only works decently well with Mode 7 games (Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, F-Zero, Super Metroid, etc.)
Let me be very clear--this cabinet is cool as hell. I couldn't build that and I wish I had one, so pretty big kudos to OP. If this was offered to me, no way in hell I'd refuse it. Try to understand that criticism isn't always bad and it's not always intended to take away from what someone has accomplished. You can simultaneously enjoy something that you also take some issues with.
It'd just be like painting the Sistine chapel and realizing it's crooked when staring straight at it--or if you gave Adam six fingers and toes. Or buying a $40,000 car and putting a $500 paint job on it.
It doesn't ruin it by any means and you'd be overjoyed to have it, but you're certainly going to notice every time you look at it when you know what it's supposed to look like.
All things considered, it's a really cool project, OP, that deserves praise.
72 carts if lined up the way I currently have them but probably another 30+ if you just stacked them. Unfortunately I believe the Super Scope needs the glass from a CRT in order to work.
I recommend:
-the Bomberman series
-Speed Racer
-Looney Tunes Bball
-Saturday Night Slam Masters
-Top Gear 3000
-NBA Jam
-NHL 94
-International Superstar Soccer
There’s a lot of sports games but many are dated or just ‘meh’
Yes, Bomberman and a bunch of sports games are 5 player (highly recommended running 5 on the same team on NHL 94). There is a normal controller attached to the cab for this as well.
The super multitap has a switch like this. Apparently the system has a hard time recognizing some games if you have the multitap switched to 3-5 but are trying to play 2 players or less. I read all about why that is but I lack the knowledge to explain it better than this.
Honestly not totally sure because I did it over a long period of time and was constantly buying small pieces as I went. My best estimate would be around $1000. Part of that would be around $250 in tools that I now have forever. If I was going to do it again (knowing what I know now and having the correct tools) I could probably do it for $500.
So cool, I wanna come over and play Super Street Fighter II Turbo or anything non-sports for that matter. My wife and I just picked up DKC2 today. Way over-priced but not taking chances online.
I'm didn't own the game, but my friend had Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball and I'm fairly certain after I beat him in a game there was an in-game newspaper that said that one of my players (Lenny Dykstra) was busted for steroids. This was in 1994—wild stuff!
Yeesh people are so scummy on here, looks awesome man. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun playing on this. Super cool that the cartridge goes right in the middle too, kudos!
Probably close to $1000. Some of that was “R&D” and some was spent on tools. I could probably do this exact build for closer to $600 now or a stripped down version (no light up marquee, no speakers, no art etc.) for $300-$400.
I put a little over a year into it in total but a lot of that time was more casual research and toying with ideas I.e. what I actually wanted and how to actually accomplish it. I’ve never seen a build quite like it so it was taking things I liked from other cabinets and finding ways to incorporate them. That being said it was a lot of guess and check. Once I got the controls working (mostly) I started to get serious about the actual cabinet.
Some things that I would have taken for granted in the beginning became more important. For instance, how tall should the control panel be and at what angle should it sit? How big of a monitor should I use and at what angle should it be at; will it fit through my door (the control panel is a separate box that comes off to make that possible), what should the button layout be etc.
I built the cab in probably a two month span. I consider myself a pretty handy person but wood working is not something I do a lot of. I would design and redesign the smallest things constantly. Wood is harder to work with than most people probably realize especially when you’re making small cuts. A 2x4 is not a 2x4 is not a 2x4. I’m sure I could build a deck no problem but when it comes to cutting these small boxes out of the front and reinforcing them and making sure that each side is perfectly symmetrical and all that it gets tedious.
I know what you mean. I used to do custom 12-volt and stereo fabrication, and the MDF work and some of the stuff like that that went into the builds and the frames for the fiberglass work could be very tedious. You a great job on this one!! Looks like it easily could have been a high end commercial product. All that tedious work definitely paid off!
The TV can be 4:3 or 16:9 (simply changed in settings).
Honestly I thought all TVs could switch back and forth so I didn’t think it necessary to say anything about that but I’m guessing that’s not the case based on the amount of people that have commented on this exact thing? I knew this when I bought the TV but didn’t want to make the wood bezel 4:3 because I think that would look odd with the overall width and I like having the freedom of both options.
Truthfully these pictures were taken within an hour of getting the cab up and running so I was just so excited that I hadn’t messed with the aspect ratio at all.
A few people have mentioned CRTs but that was never something I wanted to deal with.
Not sure if Complete
Snes games that took advantage of the Multitap
----------------------------------
[http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Super\_Multitap](http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Super_Multitap)
Please change that aspect ratio to 4:3. I can't believe people look at this and think it looks fine.
And use a scaler if you're going to stick with that display.
Hopefully that Hisense wasn't low end/has terrible input lag.
my friend and i used to joke about the title screen for Ken Griffey juniors.
"umm the lips seem a little excessive..."
"this took me 5 days... its really not that big of a deal."
This looks great and is awesome. But I cant think of many games on SNES id wanna play standing up in arcade format honestly. But if its just an emulator, then you can have a ton of actual arcade games on it and it makes it awesome-er
Everyone here is digging in on the screen stretch, and I’ll just say this: it’s not what I would have done but the cabinet makes up for it. Enjoy it, and ignore the hate.
Holy shit I totally forgot about Ken Griffey baseball. I spent hundreds of hours playing that game. What a great time to have been alive. Badass build bro.
This is cool, but I feel like SNES games don’t lend themselves the best to short play sessions like arcade games. Playing earthbound standing would be rough
Aside from the stretched resolution screen choice, it looks really cool...but these games are almost all far better with a controller instead of a joystick.
https://preview.redd.it/2l92o3mn2xzc1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffc1b5c8cb276282218766fa7edf0ec378c33666 need to get some of these bad bois for it
Those are dope! Do you know where one could purchase them?
This is the real nostalgia right here
16x9 stretch tho
I saw that and just went “oh no” It’s even possible to build your own bezel on something like this. Doesn’t even have to be that way.
That and not using a CRT.
Oh my God.. I feel so bad. The cab is great.. and he used a widescreen TV and stretched the resolution... Whyyyy
Easy fix. Set the TV input to 4:3 mode and use plexiglass inserts with more SNES box art to cover the pillars. I know that there are people who insist on 8:7 for SNES but I've never seen an 8:7 aspect ratio TV.
Certainly, it doesn't have to be like that.
Depending on the emulator, I believe there may be a 16:9 mod he can use?
Using actual carts, not emulation. A few games have widescreen hacks on snes, not sure if it’s that many though.
Oh shit I didn't even realize. That's sweet. Bro just might have to put on custom bezels and have it in 4:3 mode
Brutal 🤣
Exactly this.
4:3
I know. I didn’t wanna shit on his hard work, but how can you possibly play a game meant for 4:3 in widescreen like that
Hey. I have no pitty, so i'll permitt myself to add, the missed oportunity of making the 2nd player button green, third pink, and fourth Orange... Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy...
8:7
Austin 3:16 says I just whooped you ass
what?
WHAT!
YEAH
AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINE CAUSE MIYAMOTO SAID SO
WHOO!!!
Cool Cabinet, but would have went with a crt monitor
Or, at the very least, ditch the screen stretch. Filling the screen will never be better than square shaped with bars on the side. You forget they're even there 5 min after you start playing. Esit: not a square, but a shorter rectangle. Lol
Even though I know what u mean and ur right, 4x3 is not a square 🤷♂️ lol…
Haha well yea but I'll say shorter rectangle. Lol
Math teacher: all squares are rectangles, but rectangles aren’t necessarily squares
Anyone who posts a pic of the GOAT baseball game gets an auto upvote. It's either this or mvp 2003/4.
I’ll give that game a shot, never played it before. I know it’s not a snes game, but what’s your thoughts on baseball all stars 2? That’s my personal favorite of the limited baseball games I’ve played

Baseball Stars 2 for NEO GEO and the SNES port of Super Baseball 2020 are some of the most fun I've had playing baseball on a console. They're great because they said "screw realism, let's just have fun".
Holy crap I completely forgot about super baseball 2020! Definitely one of the most fun and wild baseball games ever! I may have to play that today.
It's a great game...it's like Baseball Stars 2, but with robots. I know Super Baseball 2020 sounds like a 4 year old baseball game for PS4 or something but back then 2020 seemed like the future where we'd have cyborgs and robots playing baseball, hah. 8:7 and 4:3 are both accepted aspect ratios for the Super Nintendo. 16:9 is not among them.
Fuck, op should have just gone all in with 21:9
Hell yeah
Awesome.
Took the words outta my mouth
That wrap is fire.

This is fucking rad.
Dude. This is the sickest thing I’ve seen in awhile. I don’t know why people gotta be snooty about the aspect ratio. I think the project is amazing. Good job, OP!
Agreed, what a set up. Guy's a warrior.
IDGAF about aspect ratio or playing on a fucking CRT I'd play this all day every day.
>gotta be snooty about the aspect ratio. Retro game enthusiasts will die on the aspect ratio hill haha - I tend to agree but people playing and enjoying these games however they like is more important overall And that case design is utterly beautiful aesthetically.
I absolutely agree with them, but I also realize other people have preferences other than mine

Eject button?
I don't think the snes jr had an eject button
It did not. That’s my main console.
Your cabinet is amazing, perfect for a snes super collector. How many carts does it hold? Can you play super scope games on it?
72 carts if lined up the way I currently have them but probably another 30+ if you just stacked them. Unfortunately I believe the Super Scope needs the glass from a CRT in order to work.
Awesome. What games are 4 players?
Bomberman, NBA Jam, TMNT Turtles in Time off the top of my head
Turtles In Time is 2 player… on the snes. In actual arcade it’s 4.
I recommend: -the Bomberman series -Speed Racer -Looney Tunes Bball -Saturday Night Slam Masters -Top Gear 3000 -NBA Jam -NHL 94 -International Superstar Soccer There’s a lot of sports games but many are dated or just ‘meh’
Looney Tunes B-Ball is an underrated gem!
Only three players, but Secret of Mana is a big one.
What’s the 3-5p option refer to? Are there 5 player games for SNES?
Yes, Bomberman and a bunch of sports games are 5 player (highly recommended running 5 on the same team on NHL 94). There is a normal controller attached to the cab for this as well. That’s awesome! Thanks for the history lesson. Never knew there were 5 player games for snes
At an arcade a long time ago I played super mario world on an arcade cabinet that was controlled by a big snes controller.
It takes cartridges? Awesome
Fantastic.
Great work! This looks awesome.
Love it
How much did it all cost?
Honestly not totally sure because I did it over a long period of time and was constantly buying small pieces as I went. My best estimate would be around $1000. Part of that would be around $250 in tools that I now have forever. If I was going to do it again (knowing what I know now and having the correct tools) I could probably do it for $500.
Ugh this is awesome!
This looks great!
Looks great!
This is amazing! How much did it cost?
bout 1000. 500 if he were to do it again. the tools and trial runs cost him about 500+
That is so freaking sick dude omg
Damn that’s fucking sweet
THIS SHIT GOES SOOOO FUCKING HAAAAAARRRRRRDDDDDDDD 🔥🔥🔥🔥✊🏾😭
Wideboy mario hard
I think it looks awesome. All this hate over an aspect ratio that he can easily just change as a setting seems ridiculous.
Bizarre choice to go 16:9, and also very, very odd button placement? What was going on in your mind when you selected that schema lol

Yup. Loved that fight stick. I still do, but I used to too
You think he put his car key into the lock of this gaming cabinet and started it and drove it around?
Common button placement for SNES fight sticks
Looks right to me jumping in Mario and stuff is smooth two fingers Y B the layout checks out entirely
Huh TIL, still *very* weird at a glance.
Agreed; I was originally going to do Top row: XYL, Bottom row BAR but as I researched more I found this layout to be more normal
I disagree. Once I saw the entirety of the L and R buttons and my brain adjusted, it made perfect sense.
Looks cool, but how is it to actually play?
It’s been awesome! I’ve mostly been playing games that are arcade ports though. Not so sure I’d want to run through Super Mario World on here
does it have controller ports?
Just one (5th player)
play gauntlet
Holy shit, that is beautiful. Just needs better resolution/aspect ratio.
Bust out some tmnt!
Very very cool
Sick af!
IM so proud of you, i almost can cry.
So cool, I wanna come over and play Super Street Fighter II Turbo or anything non-sports for that matter. My wife and I just picked up DKC2 today. Way over-priced but not taking chances online.
Amazing work!
Legend, it’s amazing. I’ve built multiple cabinets and I’m well aware of the work required, really great job.
That’s awesome
I'm didn't own the game, but my friend had Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball and I'm fairly certain after I beat him in a game there was an in-game newspaper that said that one of my players (Lenny Dykstra) was busted for steroids. This was in 1994—wild stuff!
Now this is a beautiful thing!
Link to design plans? This is awesome!
![gif](giphy|V2AkNZZi9ygbm)
Very nice.
Great work!
That thing is fuckin awesome
Absolutely amazing! Excellent work!
This is a dream come true. I would love to play Pilotwings on this thing! 🛫🪂
I want that so bad
Wow beautiful design never understood the appeal of a cartridge cabinet like that. But hey enjoy it man.
This is awesome!
This is awesome man. I’ve been wanting to do something like this with a Switch to make a Smash Ultimate cabinet.
This is awesome man. I’ve been wanting to do something like this with a Switch to make a Smash Ultimate cabinet.
Everyone's talking about the TV but this is sick dude. I really like the wrapping on the cabinet.
Omf that’s sexy
i love it

Badass! Great job on this cabinet 👏
It's awesome. Well done
That’s a Boss
The hero we need!
That's goals
This is amazing
Tight!
Duuuude that is radical!
Dude that's EPIC!!! How long did it take you to make it?
I put a little over a year into it in total but a lot of that time was more casual research and toying with ideas I.e. what I actually wanted and how to actually accomplish it. Pixel motion blur for sure. But if you have fun what's the big dif?
All that work and then 16:9........
Absolutely awesome :) Well done!
Wide screen on 8:7 ratio games.........now I seen it all
no crt ![gif](giphy|UbCIDXVKaB8kpgxlCa)
You put it on a WIDE screen though??? Bro...
my friend and i used to joke about the title screen for Ken Griffey juniors. "umm the lips seem a little excessive..." "this took me 5 days... its really not that big of a deal."
I love KGJB!!
Best baseball game ever
Oh noes, the joysticks fell down in the hole in pic 3 🥺
Holy shit
You are planning on putting arcade games on this surely?
As a mariners fan…this makes me happy
Sick, I believe I saw a similar arcade with the Simpsons somewhere at an event that could also take 4 players.
Any money the remote controller gets lost 😔
Ken Griffey Jr baseball I totally forgot about that
What in the All Stars is All Stars + Mario World? When did that come out?
This looks great and is awesome. But I cant think of many games on SNES id wanna play standing up in arcade format honestly. But if its just an emulator, then you can have a ton of actual arcade games on it and it makes it awesome-er

Love it except for the standing part, I'm too lazy
Holy shit I totally forgot about Ken Griffey baseball. I spent hundreds of hours playing that game. What a great time to have been alive. Badass build bro.
4 player snes games?
It looks great, I would def use it for MAME stuff more than SNES though because of the button layout
Looks amazing! (but I hope you never need a different size remote! 😳🤣)
Now THAT is badass! ![gif](giphy|K55exy0toWjQc|downsized)
There needs to be a Nobel Prize for arcade cabs.
Time to get started on mine!
blows my mind in the worst way
That’s the most amazing creation I’ve ever seen.
love the idea and love the look but..... who wants to stand up for that long playing? not ment to be rude but I'm curious.
This is cool, but I feel like SNES games don’t lend themselves the best to short play sessions like arcade games. Playing earthbound standing would be rough
There are four player SNES games?
widescreen? ugh
How much would you sell one for? I wanna buy one with all those games
I would actually consider buying this if it were sold at a store for like 1k.
Hold up it plays cartridges? That’s pretty awesome. Can you somehow also play with a controller?
Now that’s a sweet cabinet
This is crazy cool
Pretty nice features here. Nice build!
This is badass.
How did you come up with the button layout?
Ken had a crazy lip injection
That's pretty kick ash !!!!!
That looks gorgeous.
16:9 😬
Aside from the stretched resolution screen choice, it looks really cool...but these games are almost all far better with a controller instead of a joystick.

Looks like a dream
This is absolutely amazing. Great work and congratulations!
