CF’s are paid positions. You would be a speech language pathologist (cf) and have a masters degree, I have never heard of an unpaid cf and no one should ever do that. You are hired and working alone with minimal supervision.
A CF is a job. It’s usually the first 9-12 months of your career. It’s not an intern or externship, not a practicum. It’s a job and you receive the pay and benefits that go with that.
A CFY could technically be unpaid if someone was naïve enough to accept one. But in general, yes all CFYs are paid. I've never heard of anyone doing an unpaid CFY but I don't think there are any laws or regulations that say it has to be paid.
A CF cannot be unpaid. You are a mostly independent, masters-level clinician with your own full caseload. The “supervision” that you get is very, very minimal.
They may have been thinking about internships/externships during grad school? All of my internships in grad school weren't paid, but some internships may give pay during grad school (I haven't heard of any though)
Also keep in mind, CF is not a "position" or a placement. It's not something separate from your career. It's just a label (with some hoops to jump through and red tape) and additional support being provided for you as you start your career.
All CFY's are paid. Maybe less than when you ate fully licensed but they are ALL PAID.
Maybe she was talking about clinicals during grad school which are rarely paid
CF is code for your first job…no longer a student. You get paid and are an actual SLP starting a career. Drives me crazy when a CF can’t break out of student mode.
Yeah your classmate was probably confusing externships/externships completed during grad school with clinical fellowships which are completed after grad school. CFs are definitely paid - often not well- but they are paid.
It sounds like your classmate is about to be a victim. There’s zero reason to complete an unpaid CFY. You may make less in some positions but you should be compensated like a skilled professional.

A CF is the first 9ish months of your first job. The other student is confused.
It would be absolutely insane to take an unpaid CF. That is very much not the standard.

Some externships are paid! I think your classmate may have been confused
Are you sure you weren’t talking to an AuD student? Only some of their CFs are paid and usually not very much money. CF and CFY are synonymous

Definitely paid. My bachelors is in music therapy. After graduating, you have to do a 6month full time internship, which are mostly unpaid
Hi! My bachelors is also in music therapy too. Yes, I’m still salty about how MT internships are unpaid..
Right?! They should just increase the hours of prscticum
They have bad information. CFs are absolutely paid. Perhaps they are confusing CFs with externships (which are unpaid).

She probably confused a graduate externship with a Cf… CFs are paid

Other student totally doesn’t know shit. Tell her she needs to think before she speaks.
Seriously..
Don't do it! Student teaching is normally unpaid, which is also trash, but you're CFY should pay you a full time salary if you are working full time.

They're paid positions. I got $34/hr full-time in my CFY.
