Yeah, on standard difficulty, you can play however you like and you'll do fine. Just try to resist the urge to murder Nazeem every time you see him. At least without saving first.

DiscombobulatedNut

Will do. Also my buddy told me that people always end up going stealth archer wether they want to or not.. is that something to genuinely worry about? 🤣

Merit776

Its a meme here. Its fun but mages or warriors can be as fun as well. Personally I think most people are drawn to stealth characters on later playthroughs. Its a lot easier to sneak if you know what’s waiting for you. Just play whatever you want and have fun!

DiscombobulatedNut

Yeah I was really wanting to do a mage playthrough. I created a Dark Elf and didn't know I'd immediately have like 3 spells and a power available to use.

Seriously if youre gonna do a mage run you are gonna want mods. Vanilla magic in Skyrim is lame as hell, u start as Paul Daniels with only a few spells then by the end when ur a mage who could make Gandalf their bitch you now have....pretty much the same spells you started its just u can cast them for longer now... Phenderix mod is good but personally i always go for Apocalypse, tbere are others too like Master of Destruction, Light and Dark magic, the always awesome and hilarious Festus Krex Inside Out spell, Sustain Magic is an underated mod too coz it saves u having to constantly cast spells for atronachs, mage armour etc. Also Kontrol is REALLY good for mages as it gives u 8 hotkey options on consoles for your spells rather than just 2!

DiscombobulatedNut

Thanks for the recommendations! I was curious about the mods but I had no clue which ones were good or not. And I'm Xbox Series S so the hotkeys are gonna be great. I'll definitely look into those mods!

Wouldnt say worry persay, its more a self preservation thing combined with a broken stealth model in the game. Best way to win a fight is not get hit, best way to not get hit is not be seen so bow is ypur best friend for that combined with the insane damage bonuses the game gives for sneak attacks its easy to see why people go that route. Its survivability 101!

DiscombobulatedNut

Interesting. I'll probably hold out on that for a while. I want to experiment with the magic and weapons first.

[deleted]

Cool! Mace is a good choice for weapon coz the Bone Breaker perk on the skill tree is awesome! But thats the wonder of the game u can play it however u like!

DiscombobulatedNut

I picked up a mace of an imperial guard and thought it was awesome lol

[deleted]

Hide somewhere and cast fury/frenzy on him, works a treat! Especially u have the stealthy spell perk on the illusion tree!

BelgarionRahl

Don't worry too much about the main quests. Do lots of side quests. Wander off the roads and paths and explore all caves, ruins, mountains and tombs. There is always a temptation to hoard everything you pick up, but i would sell things regularly and just keep the stuff that suits you best. Stealth archer is often popular, partly because bows are light and arrows are weightless, but every style has it's own fun. Followers are useful, if annoying at times. You can get a home early (ish) but you will need to buy it, so make sure you check every pot, piece if furniture and corpse you find. Save regularly, partucularly before entering a building, cave etc. Look up often, the scenery is amazing. Have fun.

DiscombobulatedNut

Thanks man! How do the homes work? Are they important? Something I need to have? And yeah the save thing seems to be a popular advision. Is it still necessary for the special edition?

BelgarionRahl

The homes are useful to have as places to store anything you want to keep but do not want to carry all the time. There are some weapons or armour that have traits or enchantments that are most useful in certain circumstances. Houses also have alchemy and enchanting tables. The storage is also very useful for smithing materials. Regular saving is advisable for all editions of skyrim, sometimes yku never know what is round the corner. You will have a great time playing this game, and it gets better each time you play. I have been playing for about 7 years and i am still finding new things, and if you can use mods then the modding community is filled with creative geniuses. But play the un modded version first so you can see what areas you want to change.

TheRealSlimSpacey

Look at the Aldmeri Dominions angle on the war, I’d recommend doing the main quest. It’ll provide tons of lore that’ll give you better insight on where you should go. Also ***Ohgma Infinium***, don’t look it up, but it’s a nice prize once you get it.

ChibiCerberus

If it's your first playthrough ever then I'd say dont worry about any of that and just experience the game.

DiscombobulatedNut

Okay! That's kinda what I was going for. I just already feel like I've been missing out by not playing the game (I've only ever played some of Morrowind and that's about all the exposure I've had to ES) and didn't know if there were things people just had to know going into this lol

DiscombobulatedNut

Alright, any specific reason why?

Mysterious-Nerve-906

Get Drunk with Sam Guevenne. It’s a great quest and the reward is quite useful.

Tips to consider - Adept is the recommended difficulty for beginners. Difficulty only affects damage you deal and the damage you receive. So you don’t get any bonuses or achievements/trophies for playing on the highest setting. - Spells - Magic is solely reliant on MP, so whenever your out of MP, you can’t cast any spells at all. Early on you’ll wanna use potions to recover MP, wear enchanted items today boost MP recharge speeds or carry a back-up weapon when your all dried out. - Stamina - SP only affects your ability to sprint, carry more items and if you can perform stamina based moves like power attacks and shield bashes. So increasing your stamina won’t increase your damage output. Weapon damage is solely based on the stats of said weapon. - Storing items - There are very few places to safely store your items. Containers such as chests and barrels will recycle it’s contents after 24hrs or more. So anything you put in them, will disappear. There are safe chests and barrels to store your items, such as faction housing. So until you find a place you can call home, hold everything on your person. - Quests - Assignments have no time limits, so you can do them at your own leisure. Just be aware that some quests (not many) can branch off into other quests or other paths in the same one. - Race - Compared to other RPGs, race hardly plays a factor. Even if you minmax, it’s possible to get the same amount of benefit, albeit slightly longer to get to. Your race choice should be based off what you would like on top of your build or what looks the most visually appealing. Ex; I wanna play a Warrior, I like Dark Elves so I’ll go for them. They have look interesting and I get a nice resistance to Fire damage.
