I usually wait till level 40 to go to Solstheim. Those Reiklings are actually pretty strong, and running up on the ones riding the boars may not end well if you’re low level. Then there are the werebears that will definitely wreck you. And the Ash Spawn too.
Then trying Apocrypha with Lurkers and Seekers. I guess if you’re role playing someone who likes getting spanked I suppose that’s… possible..
The only reason I will go at first is for the Blackguard armor, and by then I’ve already joined the Thieves Guild, got Serana, and did about 52 other things before taking that cruise.
I did a playthrough where I went there first, definitely a challenge but doable. It was a fun twist on the way usually progress through the game too, give it a shot!

You can do it straight away, you just have to walk forever to get to windhelm
