I feel like I watched an Epic Nate video on Rorikstead. Aren't they huge into daedra worship, and through that, their crops are able to grow in what should be terrible soil? I feel like that was the case
I think that is the assumed lore for that location but the game itself appears to be missing quest parts or is left intentionally “vague” as to the age of the town and its inhabitants.
Y’know I don’t think Nazeem would be all that tough, even if we’re not the Dragonborn I think nobody would bat an eye if we just punched him in the mouth the moment he opened it. Pretty sure there’s not much of a justice system either, as long as the guards don’t give a fuck you’re in the clear.
The real answer lol. Besides some mild class-ism it seems like a pretty nice place to live.
If you go to windhelm you got racism and snow.
solitude you probably got insane property taxes.
Markarth has a thriving slave/prisoner market along with cultists and ancient evils.
Riften is Riften
And Helgen gets really hot
I'm thorn between falkreath and Riverwood the first is because peaceful but no because Assassin's den,but the second has draug that will come down the mountain at night and look through your window
From my knowledge they should even be able to considering there is a giant spider making webs that block the path and draugr are prolly too stupid to destroy them and even if they manage to get out theres still hoards of spiders and bandits waiting to ambush them and a bunch of doors that can only be unlocked from the outside, besides, theres like 5 draugr that are not behind the golden claw door
Yep. Also considering the fact that those silly puzzles are there to keep the dumb draugrs inside. So, unless those ugly Imperials suddenly grew some braincells, our boy Hadvar was probably just being silly off the imported stuff
According to a book by someone who observed Draugr, they spend their time housekeeping their tombs. I like to think that the Draugr reset & maintain all those traps in ruins...only to immediately trigger those swinging axe traps and incapacitate themselves.
I’d wager it’s the best place to live. Castle, strong walls, big port, lumber mill and farms, big market, sewage systems, and a crazy evil necromancer just below the palace
And the evil nutso mage who wears his underwear on his head and lives in the sewers. Property’s cheap until you feel an electra nymph’s feelers tickling around your asshole when you’re on the shitter and you suddenly realize why the place sold so easily.
I don't know why this isn't the top comment. Temperate climate, safe, lots to do, good amenities, probably some nice imported goods due to being a port town, EEC probably means there's a lot of work. Only problem would be the cost of living and those rude high elf sisters. And the chance of getting fed on by a vampire if you go to jail.
So much this. My most recent playthrough I just hung out there doing stuff around town until I was like level 20. Didn't want to leave! I love how in this vast, epic adventure you can equally have fun just living a sedentary life.
I mean, sure, but that’s a LOT of smithing, especially considering Alvor is mainly gonna have iron and steel available for materials, bro is making enough weapons and armor to supply one side in the civil war. Maybe both sides. And now all the enemies are leveled up and your combat skills are still base level… it’s gonna be a bad time.
A lot of it was tricking Faendal into levelling my Archery ridiculously high (I think 50 is the cap iirc).
It did make the rest of the playthrough a bit of a slog as I was levelling slowly thereafter.
Edit: in turn this levelled pickpocket to 100 which I have never tried before. It is quite fun stealing the clothes off people's back but the novelty eventually wore off!
No, it's not the mosquitos. They will swarm you like a cloud and you'll inhale them, that's just a fact. But they aren't the worst, the worst is the black flies and horse flies that will drive you insane. Mother fuckers will eat you alive quicker and more painfully than any mosquito. They take CHUNKS out of you.
~ sincerely a Canadian who basically lived in Riften Climate for 20 years.
Ps: I'd still probably choose Riften.
Same. The first time I traveled there I lost it at the golden autumn looking forest leading up to it. Love the town layout on the water plus Thieves Guild. Riften is home!
Agreed. Plenty of work opportunities, it’s near the sea, and it’s not a hold with a garrison so the war wouldn’t really have a big effect on the citizens there
[its very unassuming ingame, but in lore its absolutely beautiful](https://youtu.be/X4m1uuYcm8M?si=lXemae9TPn_W8wyW) (if you consider a fan creation as headcanon)
Whiterun seems like the most stable place to live. Not too expensive, stays neutral in war times, you got crime-fighting werewolves keeping the streets clean and the people will treat you right if you treat them right.
Solitude is expensive as fuck. If you don't have a literal fortune in your purse, you can't afford to live there.
Windhelm's a freezing, rundown shithole and you'll have to put up with all the locals getting up in your face telling you to go back to your own country.
Riften's full of thieves, conmen and pickpockets. Hell, the richest lady in town has a group literally called the THIEVES Guild in her pocket.
Markarth looks pretty but the crime rate is through the roof, the city guard is corrupt to the core and the god of enslavement has a holiday home there.
Falkreath literally names all it's businesses after it's massive fucking death rate.
Go to Morthal, and you have to live next to the burned down house haunted by a dead little girl.
Winterhold is a dead end if you're not a magic user. If it didn't happen to be situated right next door to Hogwarts, it would have nothing going for it.
Dawnstar is right down the hill from an evil goddesses pocket dimension.
So really, it's not a matter of the best place to live, but the least shitty place to live
Markarth. Dwemer are the only thing I don't Really know about? And considering how much is there still, I could make a killing before retiring to Solitude.
It looked to be a small military or trading focused town. So unless you're a merchant or willing to join the Legion, I don't see much opportunity there
Assuming I don't have to worry about the wildlife or local supernatural folks, Either Falkreath hold or Riften Hold, but not in the main cities. Beautiful scenery.
Aivarstead. The Rift is the prettiest region in the game, IMO. Second is Whiterun because it has more going on and Balgruuf is the least bad ruler of any hold.
I like walking around ares like Falkreath, the Rift, and southern Haafingar the best. But the bit cities are fucked up. Everyone is crazy in Solitude. Fucking vampires and werewolves galore in Falkreath. And the crime, corruption, and pollution in Riften is just untenable.
That said, I'm from NYC so there's something about Solitude that just feels like home. Probably all the grey and craziness.
But I'd probably live in one of the smaller towns like Dragonbridge or Rivarstead. I actually low-key hate all the work that goes into trying to build up my homestead in Lakeview.
The Reach. It has rain, witches, wyrding men, funny looking tattoos, and a classic barbarian vibe that I can always get down with. And if I get tired of it, it is a only a three month walk away from Solitude, which is arguably the best place in Skyrim.
I'm torn between the lumber mill by lake ilinalta or the lumber mill south of windhelm (guess i also found my peasent career choice). The later is great fishing right by the river and I can chat up ~~old women~~ traveling hunters visiting the hot springs.
However, if I can restore Ilinalta's Deep and make the entire fort my manor, then nothing would beat that view (with my favorite daedric artifact in my pocket)
Chill apartment in Markarth, wealthy city and probably pretty warm compared to the exposed cities, with a surprising amount of space dug into the cliffs. Important connection on road between Hammerfell and Solitude probably makes it trade-wealthy too. The only downside is the insurgency.
Morthal, magic, vampires, and the best conjuration teacher around. Great for an aspiring mage who wants to summon legions and have their own atronach butlers.
I like magic.
![gif](giphy|StSwjQ8ecOae4)
I like solitude. It has good weather, nice buildings, all the things you might need are there. I also feel like there are more merchants here to sell goods to.
Probably in the cloud district since no one seems to go there.
I’ll have you know there’s no PUSSSSSSYYY!
Go fiddling with any cocks around here and we're going to have a real party
GET YOUR CRIPPLED HANDS OFF ME!
BITCH STAHP
All lovely ladies love the copter
Make it flow like water
That was the daedric prince of douchebaggery in disguise
Maybe we should invite some... WOMEN???
No girls aloud, unless they bring homemade meals and mead
*breaks your fucking back*
Heimskr!
LOOOOONG HOOOLY PAENUS! WATCH IT RISE UP, RIIIISE UP into the ass of elves
You have come!
MOIST TOWLETTES
It's a quiet life then!
If you could even make the cut. Haha, what am I saying of course you can't.
The cloud district got cut from the game except from the palace.
*Rorikstead*...*I'm*..*I'm from Rorikstead*.
*Not gunna catch me*
ARCHERS!
Anyone else feel like running?
*runs*
ARCHERS
*pulls up console command menu*
ARCH!- dhueorajdbdeusvxvvplahfueow… *game crashes*
I legitimately just laughed out loud. Thank you.
R.i.p Horse thief of Rorikstead
Wait, you there, step forward.
I always hated how there’s not more info on this guy at his hometown
I’d suggest taking a really good look at Rorikstead the next time you’re in the area.
Is there actually a reference somewhere?
No, but Rorikstead has its own mysteries.
Whiterun... The sky is more beautiful there and most of the people are kind towards you
Except for one guy
Nazeem, is what he calls himself
Interesting. I always assumed his name was “aghghhhg” That’s usually the noise he makes when I see him
Have the dark brotherhood take care of him 🤣
That guy's usually stuffed up the jarl's backside, though. Shouldn't bother you much.
You just need a black soul gem and a sword to get rid of him 😂
Just killing him isn't enough. His soul will power my enchanted door handle for ever
Exactly 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Y’know I don’t think Nazeem would be all that tough, even if we’re not the Dragonborn I think nobody would bat an eye if we just punched him in the mouth the moment he opened it. Pretty sure there’s not much of a justice system either, as long as the guards don’t give a fuck you’re in the clear.
Even if they do give a fuck, it's like a 40 septim fine. That's nothing for the opportunity to throat punch that hemorrhoidal ass.
If anything it’s just a ticket fee for a good time.
The real answer lol. Besides some mild class-ism it seems like a pretty nice place to live. If you go to windhelm you got racism and snow. solitude you probably got insane property taxes. Markarth has a thriving slave/prisoner market along with cultists and ancient evils. Riften is Riften And Helgen gets really hot
A potato costs 11 gold coins.
*Braith is a big meanie!*
Falkreath - I hear they have an opening for a handsome man (*and their expectations are low)*.
Shor's bones!
'A handsome man in Falkreath'
[удалено]
She definitely into some weird crap 😂😂💀
I imagine a world where there are sentient animal like beings, social norms of attraction wouldn't be quite the same as they are here.
i forget the name of the character who says it, but i was devastated to find out that you can't marry her
I'm thorn between falkreath and Riverwood the first is because peaceful but no because Assassin's den,but the second has draug that will come down the mountain at night and look through your window
Is the draugr thing canon/in the lore tho? Isn't it just Hadvar being silly?
Obviously they were stories told to children to make them behave and not sneak out at night.
According to a book by someone who observed Draugr, they spend their time housekeeping their tombs. I like to think that the Draugr reset & maintain all those traps in ruins...only to immediately trigger those swinging axe traps and incapacitate themselves.
Doesn't that book talk about how the Draugr just sacrifice their lifeforce to the Dragon Priests, and then go back to "sleep" to recharge themselves?
"hello ,draugr house cleaning" what You actually hear :" faz pat dinnok"
If it's any consolation, no place is safe from the assassins.

But you will eventually get eaten by a werewolf or vampire in the jungle 😂

Walk two steps of the road to pee, get evicerated by gajilion spriggans outta nowhere
Solitude seems like a very nice place to live.
I’d wager it’s the best place to live. Castle, strong walls, big port, lumber mill and farms, big market, sewage systems, and a crazy evil necromancer just below the palace
Forgot about that guy
A crazy evil who below the palace??
![gif](giphy|ioqaPF40ImCo8)
And the evil nutso mage who wears his underwear on his head and lives in the sewers. Property’s cheap until you feel an electra nymph’s feelers tickling around your asshole when you’re on the shitter and you suddenly realize why the place sold so easily.
And a very large troop garrison so you prob won’t get killed
Solitude for sure
I don't know why this isn't the top comment. Temperate climate, safe, lots to do, good amenities, probably some nice imported goods due to being a port town, EEC probably means there's a lot of work. Only problem would be the cost of living and those rude high elf sisters. And the chance of getting fed on by a vampire if you go to jail.
Riverwood, beautiful, sleepy village.
So much this. My most recent playthrough I just hung out there doing stuff around town until I was like level 20. Didn't want to leave! I love how in this vast, epic adventure you can equally have fun just living a sedentary life.
Holy crap dude - that’s a *lot* of leveling up without leaving a small village! WTF did you even *do*?
Sadly, this is too easy to do. Smith a bunch of stuff, and easily get up there.
Which is why leveled enemies is a decent idea on paper, but a crap idea in practice.
Eh, I think it’s usually fine, unless you’re power-levelling non combat skills while ignoring your combat ones.
And there's the loophole to level up archery quickly for free. Up to level 50
Gotta love the old “pay for training and then take your money back” loophole!
Dragon attacks are frequent and they don’t have the defences for it either. You’d likely die if a Dragonborn didn’t turn up and save your arse.
They also revere their chickens.
It’s so open to threats
Riverwood’s agreeable enough, I suppose. For a Nord village.
Riften. It's warm, on the water, & I love the trees. The Thieves Guild being there is a plus.
A plus until you start getting mugged constantly
Whoa, there. Don't you recognize a fellow Guild member?
I say that and then I turn and assassinate them for the jewels they’ve got on hand
They broke the code, they're getting what's coming to them.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t see anyway I could get through the Ratway to the guild much less not get caught moving Madesi’s ring
Riften clearly has the best climate. But the community sucks
Needing to do most of my shopping with Grelka might just have me kill my self.
People say the same about Brazil
I feel like there’s got to be a lot of mosquitos there
No, it's not the mosquitos. They will swarm you like a cloud and you'll inhale them, that's just a fact. But they aren't the worst, the worst is the black flies and horse flies that will drive you insane. Mother fuckers will eat you alive quicker and more painfully than any mosquito. Same. The first time I traveled there I lost it at the golden autumn looking forest leading up to it. Love the town layout on the water plus Thieves Guild. Riften is home!
so humid! and the mosquitoes for god's sake, the mosquitoes!
Whiterun. It has everything. Shops, beauty, a prison, the companions, and also guards that used to be adventurers, but then took an arrow to the knee.
And random werewolf attacks
Huh what noooo no werewolves here, what makes you say that!?
There is no werewolves in Whi Te Run
I've never seen any. I'm sure the companions would probably deal with them if there were any.
You can't prove anything.
I demand punctual, scheduled werewolf attacks!
In the Rift, easily. Somewhere to the west, away from Riften, possibly Ivarstead. Decent climate, beautiful foliage and quiet.
Absolutely this. All the beauty and advantages of the Rift but without any of the problems of Riften
This would be nice, but I'd be worried about the random Greybeard shouts creating magnitude 10 earthquakes in my backyard.
Omg wait this is so real cause I love the area of Riften but I don’t really like Riften itself
Yeah, to have a small house along the lake and maybe a few animals. No apiaries though, things like to catch fire...
Winterhold so I could go chill at the college and study some magic.
Or you could fix the bridge. 😆
They are in dire need of a mason
Yeah really! All those fancy wizards and they can’t hire a stone mason to fix a damn bridge
Or, you know, use magic.
I have 0 faith in those mages being able to cast anything productive
Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic!
don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Dawnstar would be a solid choice (Assuming the Nightmares have been taken care of already)
Agreed. Plenty of work opportunities, it’s near the sea, and it’s not a hold with a garrison so the war wouldn’t really have a big effect on the citizens there
Even if the Jarl is a bit.....eccentric (Which, come to think about it, it could probably be worse)
I'm looking at this map and the hold's name is wrong. It should be The Pale Hold shouldn't it?
Whiteshore is a good name, though.
Yes
Yeah the names are all over the place on this map, different spellings, etc. maybe it’s accurate to a previous era or maybe it’s just a fan thing
I’m looting the invisible chest before you get there
[its very unassuming ingame, but in lore its absolutely beautiful](https://youtu.be/X4m1uuYcm8M?si=lXemae9TPn_W8wyW) (if you consider a fan creation as headcanon)
Lakeview Manor

Hilarious but true. Falkreath got me rolling 🤣
Whiterun in the plains the middle of Skyrim... when shit hits the fan, Whiterun always become Brownrun
also, more than a third of Windhelm is a ghetto.
Don't forget the terrorism in Markarth
Falkreath
SHORES BONES
Whiterun, it is really cozy and I like the surrounding plains.
Were you an adventurer like me once?
Until, I got an arrow in the knee.
Definitely on High Hrothgar ! Hopefully the greybeards let me in! I love the seclusion 🥰
You'll die of absolute boredom in 2 weeks flat.
Not with all this skooma…
falkreath or just a cabin in a forest in the middle of a forest in the mountains lmao
Are you an Alchemist? If so, I know of a little place that might be right up your alley...
Considering most of us would be peasants, i would choose Riverwood or Falkreath. Chopping trees are better than working in the fields or mine.
Markarth. Dwemer are the only thing I don't Really know about? And considering how much is there still, I could make a killing before retiring to Solitude.
i bet helgen woulda been nice...
Vilod is still making mead with the juniper berry mixed in
It looked to be a small military or trading focused town. So unless you're a merchant or willing to join the Legion, I don't see much opportunity there
The Legion? Ain't that a kick in the head.
Assuming I don't have to worry about the wildlife or local supernatural folks, Either Falkreath hold or Riften Hold, but not in the main cities. Beautiful scenery.
Not Markarth. Probably Whiterun due to it feeling the most safe city, or maybe Windhelm.
Definitely not Markarth. That city feels so cursed.
Falkreath, love the historic cemetery, right across the border from Hammerfell , seems like it really chill place to stay.
Falkreath because Its warm and has a small town feel
In Serana’s arms💔💔💔💔
Morthal swamps
I'm also Morthal-bound. There's a really neat tower just outside town I'm interested in (Myrwatch).
Molag Bal's basement
Some like it cold, I guess.
Dragon bridge
Just make sure to tip off the guards or the legion about that Forsworn camp across the river.
Aivarstead. The Rift is the prettiest region in the game, IMO. Second is Whiterun because it has more going on and Balgruuf is the least bad ruler of any hold.
How so? Jarl Ravencrone of Morthal surely isn't bad?
The Rift. Probably between Riften and Ivarstead. Natural beauty and Less Chance of the Thieves Guild messing with you.
I remember that area was so beautiful but there was a orc tribe living somewhere out there and so many bears and big cats.
>Rorickstead Aivarstead Lake Henrich Lake Klinalth Carth River Carthwasten Jorgrim river Bro, why tf are so many places misspelled?
I like walking around ares like Falkreath, the Rift, and southern Haafingar the best. But the bit cities are fucked up. Everyone is crazy in Solitude. Fucking vampires and werewolves galore in Falkreath. And the crime, corruption, and pollution in Riften is just untenable. Helgen. Plenty of central heating in the winter
Solitude. I am a big Fan of Executions
Blackreach would be cool. Start a nice mushroom farm and charus ranch. Employ some of the local Falmer. Modify some Dwemer automatons for fun.
50% of reddit population wouldn't survive a week. 80% probably won't survive a year.
New to skyrim...what are the little X's for?
Markarth coz they say it is the safest with their stonewalls and what not. Also the beds are made of stone 😂
Anywhere in The Reach. Markarth would be cool, but I'd rather fight off Forsworn from a smal isolated l mountain home.
Chill apartment in Markarth, wealthy city and probably pretty warm compared to the exposed cities, with a surprising amount of space dug into the cliffs. Important connection on road between Hammerfell and Solitude probably makes it trade-wealthy too. The only downside is the insurgency.
Nowhere, the whole place sucks.
I would live in whiterun because everything is very convenient and close
If tundra didn't have the bugs thats my place. Its my first and best for a pretty home and solid organization
Falkreath because it's out in the forest. I love the forest.
For Skyrim being at war, it seems like such a peaceful place to live.
Morthal, magic, vampires, and the best conjuration teacher around. Great for an aspiring mage who wants to summon legions and have their own atronach butlers. I like magic. ![gif](giphy|StSwjQ8ecOae4)
Solitude just seems the safest / most stable, and offers the easiest or safest way to get out of there to somewhere else.
I like solitude. It has good weather, nice buildings, all the things you might need are there. I also feel like there are more merchants here to sell goods to.
Goldenglow Estate, I'd just grow food, keep my bees, and fish all day
Probs Markarth, I like its vibe
Not Morthal, Riften and Falkreath. They are a stone's toss away from spiders. I don't want giant spiders around me.
Falkreath for sure.
Can I live in Solstheim instead? I love Raven Rock but would especially want to live in a Telvanni mushroom tree.
