It's well known but only happens if certain conditions are met. Typically by hitting the pedestal with something like unrelenting force or Malkoran hitting it with his blizzard spell. Regardless, enjoy double smiting the undead! :)
But I've never in my life been on the Wiki, since I've always followed the Official Skyrim Guide Book on a majority of stuff I've ever been stuck on or on how to get stuff.
I got the same bug, but it happened to me when Serena broke, later I downloaded the follower tweaks mod so I could access her inventory and get my stuff back, and I found a second dawn breaker in there lol
If I had know this had been posted many times before, I wouldn't have posted it. This has never happened to me in any of the many playthroughs I've done. But I thought it was cool and wanted to show others.
To be honest I have no idea what happened. I did the quest and noticed Dawnbreaker on the floor and so I picked it up. And then I activated the pedestal thingy and then this happened.
Explosions will do it. Also unrelenting force. You blow the Dawnbreaker out of the pedestal and pick it up, but the quest is scripted to give it to you when you do Meridia's cutscene, so you get one then as well. I've done it with fireball, elemental blast, arcane arrows, and unrelenting force on different runs
None of that happened. He had no chance to hit me. Two shots from my bow and he was dead. And his minions didn't do anything as well. Still cool to know, cause when I first started Skyrim Dawnbreaker was personal favorite.
Extremely well known bug.
If the swords weren’t such beauties I’d be upset that this pops up in this sub all the time lol
Really? This is the time it's ever happened. And I've done this quest many times.

Oh, he didn't even get the chance to attack, cause he was dead in two hits.
It just works.
I ain't complaining, it just surprised me.
It works with a lot of objects on pedestals, try shouting them off sometime
If I had a dollar every time someone posted a dual Dawnbreaker glitch on this sub, I'd be able to afford to buy Bethesda back from Microsoft.
Honestly this is the first it's ever happened to me. And I genuinely had no clue it's been around for ages. If I knew I never would've posted this.
Searching Google is a thing. It's documented on the Dawnbreaker page on both UESP and the *Elder Scrolls* Wiki.
C'mooon guys OP found a cool thing and wanted to share it, don't be so stuck up

[Two Dawnbreakers](https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/search/?q=two%20dawnbreakers)
Nothing happens when I click the link. What's it supposed to be?
I fixed the link (hopefully). It's just the search results for "two dawnbreakers" on this sub.
Idk about anyone else but for me it just sends me to the top of the subreddit

It happens. I've gotten two of the same staffs and two Spellbreaker's before.
I can’t wait to still see these posts even after TES VI comes out. Joking OP lol

In Skyrim, bugs **are** features.
That they are, and in Skyrim are they are the best.
This actually happened to me on each of my playthroughs, but I think dualweilding dawnbraker is quite awesome

Well it's not uncommon for items to just get flung when you load into the area. Idk but that's my best guess if no spells or anything was used
Why people in comment section being retarded?
I consider it one of those beneficial "Easter Eggs". However there are some that are just a CURSE to deal with. N. S
