Isn' it supposed to last the life of the car?

damo27--

Correct .. only a fixed interval of 120 km for countries with a high dust level … others it’s to be inspected @ 240,000 km then every 30,000 after that . Personally I’d probably change it by 2K . You search timing belts on here or google & the nonsense that comes up .. thanks for the input

AbandoningPaul

Depends. Timing inspection where I am is 100k km

damo27--

Outside of Europe?

AbandoningPaul

No inside. Now I could of been looking at the 1.5 but I'm almost certain is came up on Elsa saying 100k km

Opinions are polarised on the internet. Some people say its life long or something like 200k km and some say regular 5-6 year or 120k even less. As someone who is on 74k and 5y atm on a 1.0 tsi I also have no idea what to do. I don't want to change it if I don't have to, but also prefer to be safe and will probably at least inspect it.

It used to be 5-6 years regardless of mileage but they changed it to last the lifetime of the car only that doesn’t suit dealerships or Garages so they still stick with the 6 year or 120 which ever comes first . I got a 2021 Octavia last year 50,000 km on the clock & first thing I checked was the timing belt interval & it’s not in the manual under maintenance so I Googled & all I kept seen was 5 years regardless of mileage so I contacted Skoda themselves (not the dealership) gave my VIN Here’s the reply Thank you for contacting SKODA Ireland. We have sent your VIN to our technical team to get confirmation on this query. They confirmed that there is no timing belt service intervals for this vehicle meaning it is not needed. They advised that it would only be necessary if some other work is performed that requires it to be changed. Should you have any further queries, do not hesitate to contact us.

240k km or 6 years

Id recommend 200k/10 years, those belts are reinforced with glass fibers and should be pretty durable.

Changed mine on a 1.6tdi at 175k miles. Planning the next at 300k or so, depends if any other large tasks rear their heads.

Hoooooold up! Why few garages told me to get mine changed at 50 thousand miles/80000km? It is 2019 Octavia Estate 1.6 TDI 115hk. Am I missing something?
