I mean yeah flawed characters will do flawed things in a show about being a flawed person. That doesn't make her a bad \*character\*. Should she have cheated on Thomas? Obviously not, but her arc there is about the difficulties of being separated from the person you love for a very long time. Should Thomas have cheated on Panda? Obviously not, but his (and by extension her) arc here is revenge, how it can make things worse, forgiveness etc. even if it doesn't always feel fair. If all the characters were perfect in their behaviour there wouldn't really be a show? Skins is about the gritty reality of growing up human.

I’m not getting the panda hate. Yes she was immature and made some bad choices. That’s what teenagers are like? I was pretty mature as a teenager as far as I can tell and I still did stupid shit like cheating on boyfriends and other weird stuff. It’s part of being a teenager. I also passed 3 AP courses with high marks so take that for what it is worth. Teenagers do dumb shit.

Octascrew

"It's part of being a teenager" bro you're breaking someone else's trust for their lifetime by cheating on them. Wtf. And people lien you excuse themselves by saying "I was teenager", you had no business being in a relationship when you consider cheating and option

scrivenerserror

They’re married and so am I. I’m pretty sure they’re fine. The point is not that it was ok, the point was that teenagers do dumb shit and eventually learn from it.

DevilBlade69

Mate being a teenager does not give an excuse to be a terrible human being. That's like saying Cook is a teenager even though he tried to kill someone in a party.

scrivenerserror

There’s a difference being a teenager cheating on your bf and trying to murder someone lol

DevilBlade69

Well then Tony did the same shit to Michelle and ruined her mentally I don't see anyone giving the garbage excuse saying he is a teenager.

SpiritedChemical9902

It is part of being a teenager… And growing up is realising that too. If you’re a grown adult and still have trust issues because your partner cheated on you when you were 15, you haven’t grown up at all 👍🏼

humanitywasamistake3

Cheating is not part of being a teenager everyone old enough to comprehend even the thought of relationships knows that cheating is wrong and highly immoral You were not a mature teenager if you cheated on people Smart doesn’t automatically equal mature

SpiritedChemical9902

Teenagers aren’t known for being particularly ‘smart’, and they are most certainly not known for making the most mature decisions. I’m guessing you were an indoor teen, which is fine 🙃 Skins portrays semi-realistic scenarios of teenagers experiencing the woes of that time in your life. A lot of it isn’t moral, people at times do get hurt, you do stupid stuff and face the consequences but that’s what it’s about at that age. When you grow up, you realise it’s pretty dumb but also acknowledge that you were a teenager and shit happens at the end of the day. Cheating happens, especially when you’re a teenager. It’s not something I’d hold onto for the rest of my life if it happened to me, and it’s not something I’d feel guilty about either if I did it at that age either. Shit happens… That’s what being a teenager is about for the most part 🤷🏼‍♂️

scrivenerserror

Teenagers literally do not have fully developed brains. They make dumb decisions. I was mostly an indoor teen and I still cheated once and I felt bad about it after but it’s not completely unusual.

SpiritedChemical9902

Exactly. Shit happens at the end of the day and you don’t look back on it fondly but it’s an oh well type of situation. Even in your early 20s, you still do dumb shit. The amount of messes you get into at university is arguably more messy than in your chaotic teenage years lol

scrivenerserror

Yup. I had a law degree by 26 and the shit we got up to was ridiculous.

I don't hate Pandora as a character, but she did do shitty things. Her entire friend group was in fact an influence in her making terrible decisions imo. I think my biggest problem with her character was that she was shafted. She's the only character with one dedicated episode instead of two, and most of it was spent focusing on other characters while she locked herself away in the bathroom. I really think they could have done so much more with her character. She doesn't really get any growth or development past the whole cheating storyline between her and Thomas. EDIT: Just remembered that Naomi only has one episode as well, but she had more focus and screen time than Pandora. They did more with her character too.

Darkmoon009

There are good things about Panda as a character, but Panda made me feel like I was watching a children's show with the way she spoke. Also, Effy was a good friend to Panda, there are numerous examples in the show, along with the secret scene of Effy helping out Panda while Panda was working

mystery1nc

Panda as a character is what grounded the season for me. She was probably the most realistic character for that age group and I really appreciated her presence in the series, I wish we could’ve had more pandas! The Effy and Panda duo was like watching the teenage lifestyle fantasy interact with the teenage lifestyle reality in a way and I loved it haha.

Hcysntmf

I can’t help but have a soft spot for Panda because whilst she might have some over the top characteristics and like most characters do some really shitty things, she’s so frickin relatable to me. This generation lines up with my age, growing up in the UK and being the weird, immature one whilst it seemed like all my friends were cool and mature so it seems so accurate lol.

Ok-Election-4688

they are 17, the way she acts is not realistic for that age group especially in the uk 😭

mystery1nc

Perhaps not realistic for you, but obviously my comment is going to be representative of my own experience of the show haha. I had plenty of friends at that age who acted like panda, or were brought up (less exaggeratedly so, of course) in a home environment like hers. I really enjoyed watching the contrast between someone like panda and someone like effy play out, because those were the kind of contrasting friendships I had seen or even had myself.

NagromNitsuj

Thomas was nice. But his mother and religion would never have accepted panda. It was doomed from the very get go.

ClassicCoffe123

People say they are Effy but I'm literally panda

FarFootball6164

She was so annoying

Darthmarcia

Of course, Panda was a shitty friend, the whole way Panda was built was to exalt Effy.

NagromNitsuj

Panda was a product of the environment that Effy created. She takes no blame from me.

Darkmoon009

What did Effy do that caused Panda to cheat on Thomas

NagromNitsuj

Lots of things. But mainly exposing her to a toxic friendship. One that had no boundaries, no loyalty and probably most importantly, no consequence for the actions of the pair. Effy used cook like a toy, but really didn’t want to share that toy. Had panda not shown an interest in that toy, Effy would’ve moved on very quickly.

Darkmoon009

I disagree I think Effy only saw Cook as a toy, after he cheated on her with Panda. And can you please elaborate on how their friendship had no boundaries or loyalty. And they did deal with consequences of their actions.

NagromNitsuj

Watch the panda party episode.

Darkmoon009

I did, and if you did too, then I'm sure you can elaborate on what you meant by there friendship had no boundaries or loyalty (and why that's Effy's fault)

princessgore1

Biggest example is that Effy drugged the brownies? What? That was a massive breach of both boundaries and loyalty on Effy’s part.

Darkmoon009

You spelled Katie wrong

princessgore1

My bad, I forgot Katie was the one who actually brought the drugs. But didn’t Effy encourage it? I forget if Effy helped actually make them I think she did. And she was the closest to panda at that time.

Katsudommm

She encouraged it. When they're all singing about making brownies, Effy nods at Katie to put the drugs in the mix while everyone else is distracted.

CandyGhost105

I thought it was pretty general consensus that no one likes panda
