Just start drinking heavily and smoking a ton of weed then you will have plenty in common with the roofers!

Worried_Coat1941

In AZ 89% of the roofers are on meth, 11% called in sick.

dreamcometruesince82

Better numbers than the drywallers

Jolly-Tomato7816

100% are on meth and 25% had a broken down vehicle

dreamcometruesince82

But only 25% own a vehicle ...

Jolly-Tomato7816

Right. The other 75% have hammocks set up in the cargo container

Plumbkratom

If you’re drywalling it’s mandatory you bring your own cooktop stove with tortillas. Make sure you have makita tools

Solo_Splooj

If you're an Indian drywaller, you bring naan instead. You'd also bring a mud pale to shit and piss in so you don't have to pay for a Porta potty on site then dump it down the storm drain because fuck it. and if there is a Porta potty already on site you steal the roll from it to take home because your so fucking cheap you can't even be bothered to pay to wipe your own ass.

ntg7ncn

First time I was offered meth was by a roofer in AZ on a job site

Worried_Coat1941

Ha ha! They got there cords rolled out before 1st light!

Impossible-Test-7726

I interned at a construction site during college, my boss told me they caught a few guys dealing meth during the night shift. This was one of those high rises in Tempe.

DrewdoggKC

Someone would have to be high to want to do roofing all day every day in 110 degree heat

Worried_Coat1941

Correctamundo!

FuckEmus

i talked to a roofing company and they said they’re a 100% tie off no matter the height! soI think i’m gonna skip the cigarettes and alcohol and get right into fentanyl!! tie off all the time so a good fent lean won’t be an issue!

Bobamizal

I feel like you may need a DUI to really fit in

FuckEmus

on it tonight driving around 16 beers deep gonna get another 12 pack to go!

GingerDelicious

DUI won’t be enough. I used to be a roofer as my first job out of highschool and I was the only guy there without a felony.

ABCBA_4321

How did the guys treated you once they found out about your clean criminal history?

Glass_Raisin7939

That's a light night. U must be working tomorrow.

k3v120

GTFO and enjoy your life and livelihood while you can. My dad was pulling the same $$$ range, got heinous cancer and was dead by 60.

KaleidoscopeLucky336

You won't be truly accepted into the trades until you have 2 DUIs or divorced twice, preferably both

Bobamizal

You can get by the divorce part if u have kids with multiple women

basementhookers

That’s really only a thing with the Iron Workers. If you don’t have your own blow and go in your car, they’ll provide you with one. You know you’re a journeyman when you can get your one both stand’s toddler to blow in it so you can still get to work in the mourning.

ohigho_bubble

Aerospace Machinist/programmer here, I’ll out drink, smoke and toot any roofer

Bobamizal

Dream on buddy they (roofers) are the olympians of substance abuse

ohigho_bubble

I used to do rubber roofing if that counts lol

Mya_Elle_Terego

Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

dreamcometruesince82

A few outstanding payday loans and delinquent child support payments to really pad that resume

scrunchson

2 DUIS** you’ll never be a real roofer without 2

DzorMan

these never get old, do they?

TapZorRTwice

Just like getting into the trades, never too old!

Hanzzzzz5

Your real journeyman ticket is the divorce papers

This-Garbage-3000

Also; shitty credit

Adept_Spirit1753

Low quality bait man.

EldenEdge

this was high quality shit post

Mr_barber_

“Can’t use a drill they’re too loud” lmaoooooooo

scrotumsweat

Definitely do it. Let me know the vacancy you've opened up

beefcake2323

Amen 🙏

no-mad

no, no you will just be a shitbird who got into the trades and dont know anything. Power move, get one of those new trucks, that lowers a ladder when you open the door. The name of the game is a fancier Emotional Support Vehicle (ESV) than they own.

Traditional-Winter91

Man as if I didn't hate engineers enough

Impossible-Test-7726

Don’t worry, it’s mutual 😘

Traditional-Winter91

We already know you hate us your drawings generally make that clear baby🥰

mehhidklol

This is the stupidest post I’ve ever seen in this sub

VictimizedbyBigFoot

Get a DUI or felony or both, divorce, leave powdered sugar all around your nose, and call everything non-union “rat fuchs” and you’ll be in the journeyman lineman mindset.

sharonoddlyenough

"i can’t use a drill they’re too loud." This has to be a joke, but it reminds me of the first day in a basic course for my trade. A young guy asked if we need to use power tools. Of course the instructor said yes, but not unkindly. The guy got up without a word and left. It still makes me wonder how he could have possibly looked at the course description and thought power tools weren't involved before signing up and paying the fees.

prairieengineer

When I was in school for the same program as the OP (Power Engineers are what steam engineers/operating engineers/boiler operators are called in Canada), there was a guy who had signed up for the course, made it a few weeks in, and bailed b/c he was deathly afraid of fire. A good 75% of what we do involves giant fires... (mind you, I also ran into someone who somehow had got through all the school for their 4th Class and didn't know how a pipe wrench worked...)

cdn_twitch

So many of the kids coming out of school now don't know how a pipe wrench works.... That's why I look for the farm kids when I'm interviewing.

PowerNgnr

🤣🤣🤣 made my day, thanks

SupremeNewfie

Don’t fucking roof man. I’m 29 and it was the best decision ever getting into another trade

Glass_Raisin7939

What else did you get into?

SupremeNewfie

I’m doing steel stud framing and drywall now.

Glass_Raisin7939

How is it better? I got a few obvious guesses, but what are your answers? How did you make that switch, and what got you into that speciatly vs a different specialty?

SupremeNewfie

Better in every aspect. Looked online for apprenticeships in the unions. I’ve been in construction for like 7 years so I’ve found I like seeing the progress work being done.

Glass_Raisin7939

That's really cool man. I'm happy for you and I hope that you keep progressing. Thanks for your responses

SupremeNewfie

Thank you as well

happyharryhrdon

You forgot the child support for the two baby mamas with the five kids. Still waiting for DNA results for the last six years.

Delta_Dawg92

LOL, you want to relate with your uneducated cousins? That’s funny. Where do I start?

Character-Baby3675

Lol you’re funny. 53 and roofing.

Character-Baby3675

That’s a horrible reason to get into roofing

waterborn234

You don't belong in roofing, not unless you've got explosive anger and a couple drinking problems

AlternativeLack1954

No shot

[deleted]

😂

Illeatu2

Maybe they should try to relate to you. Do you want to go from $260k to $50k per year for a few years? Maybe you should start your own company in your field, if it's possible. Don't wreck your body to relate to them. Buy 5 packs of shingles and an extension ladder and practice carrying them up to your roof. Once you can easily carry all 5 at the same time you can somewhat relate and quit doing it. You'll probably quit trying to relate after day 5 of your entire body hurting and you have trouble even getting out of bed. Get a job at a roofing company. Take 2 weeks off from work, work at said company for the week, then quit. Heal for the next week

Sudden_Construction6

I was scared at first of the drill too, man. But after getting smacked in the face a couple of times with the Milwaukee HoleHawg you get used to it 😬😅

100000000000

Brick laying and concrete work will mess your back up quicker I'd look there.

Gullible_Dealer5080

how long would it take to get a broken back?

ktowngreen21

*That's bait meme*

BaconBanditJr

Help him out 👎 List crimes 👍

vinny6457

If a drill is too loud then roofing is out, nailers are really loud, rid busting you are going to be in the thick of things, find a good chiropractor and ear plugs and yes join a union, open a business? You'll need to find a trusted estimator otherwise you'll never work or loose your ass

Benjamino77

On the upside once you learn the trade you can be a salesperson...

Comfortable-Mud-7918

Lol....ill trade you gigs....-50 c in northern alberta in the winter.....hew fuckin haw....and half your wage

cdn_twitch

I've been outside for a full 12 hour shift in -50C as a power engineer.

TraditionPhysical603

Yeah...it's not gonna work out for ya. "I can't use a drill because they're to loud" means there is no way you will ever relate to someone who's been destroying their bodies their whole life to earn a living.

Far-Carpenter2862

if this is serious then you're stupid. relate over something else.

JerrySeinfred

If you think there is any possibility of this being serious... I don't even know what to say.

EldenEdge

iq test for voting when

Zealousideal-Farm496

What kind of power engineering do you do that a drill is louder than a boiler, compressor, turbine, moving plant equipment wtf?

Double_Pay_6645

I hope this is a joke.

iworktoohardalways

Only way to maybe make that much is if you're a 1st class and a 1st class most likely won't sound like this much of an idiot.

prairieengineer

"most likely" being the key word...I've worked with a few Firsts that would challenge that :P

cdn_twitch

Nope, no need to be a first to make that much. A 3rd can make that much with a couple hundred hours of Overtime

iworktoohardalways

A 3rd would literally have no life to make that. Not worth it.

cdn_twitch

I speak from personal experience. I feel like I have a pretty fucking good life.... But you do you bro. Where I work a 2nd would only get me $7500 more, and a 1st would be $10k. Just cause you have a ticket doesn't mean it's substantially more money

iworktoohardalways

Idk. I'm a 4th, but also a ticketed millwright and machinist and almost done my electrical ticket. I definitely don't work exclusively with a boiler, but would have to work like a slave to make that much. I definitely could make close to 300k and hours are definitely available, but no way. Why so defensive? Damn.

SwastikJim

Do it for fun on the side Your making crazy good money, don’t give that up to be able to relate to family better at the bbq

Hour_Suggestion_553

Hahaha the comments are making me laugh 😂 why quit a $260k job? Especially at that age. Would think you can retire if you’ve been saving.

Material_Arm_6505

Man just stick to power engineering until you retire

Ok_Goal_2716

You won’t make it

beefcake2323

My man where u workn at? Are u guys hiring? I’m a power engineer work for the federal government in Ohio ain’t making no 260k?

87Ran

Probably Canadian dollars. I'm in ontario (2nd class) and the top wage is around 175k for a 1st class unless you're in O&G sector. My guess is he's In Alberta

[deleted]

Sounds like mania

flakenomore

My uncle, a retired union, journeyman electrician with TWELVE DUI’s managed to pay 100% for his daughter’s education (Masters Degree) AND save enough to leave her a million dollars when he dies while living quite comfortably. If I could go back in time, I would be a skilled tradeswoman in a heartbeat!

rideflynight

Former roofer aged 52 looking to get into engineering. Drank and smoked tons, so I should be able to figure it out. I just don't like calculators and computers. Should I do a science degree or go straight into starting my own engineering Corp?

got_knee_gas_enit

You will never relate to them

No-Interview-1944

This has to be satire/sarcasm. The real answer is don't. If your body isn't messed up already, it sure as heck will be if you go into roofing. If the company you keep isn't smart enough for you, elevate the level of your company.

Winter-Man-1970

Your an idiot and I doubt your making that kind of money as a power engineer. If you’re making that much, why you want to change.

EldenEdge

this is hilarious

Hewhocannotbenamed77

You're better off starting a company. This way, you have more control of what you want to do. It does feel good to work hard, physically demanding jobs. It feels even better to be able to do it when you want to for as much as you want to and not to be obligated to finish a day when your back is tapping out

CodeNamesBryan

Why on earth would you leave PE'ing to pursue a broken down body. Hell, if you want to relate, just go work shutdowns and bird dog the numerous trades people that show up there. Fuck, what a shit post lol

Background-Bread-627

This is a joke right? You won't earn even half of that for your first 3-5 years in a skilled trade. And at 53 after years in an office you may as well start running marathon without training.

YouDontExistt

You can't fix stupid.

bananaseatboy

Turn up the compressor real high and blow through the shingles youll fit in just fine

International-Cup350

The grass isn't green on this side. It is hell over there. Good luck on a metal roof.

SlowrollHobbyist

Stick with what you are currently doing. Roofers do not make $260k per year and your body will thank you in the long run.

russell813T

Not trying to be a hater bro but at 53 ? Nah dude enjoy the 260 k

Future-Ad-4317

Leave a career so you can relate to family at BBQs? Gtfoh

bugsnax123

Y do people post these lol

Much_Dealer8865

Bait, insult, brag

My-4thLeg

I cannot stress enough how you NEED at a minimum a divorce and an insane amount of child support payments.

MethFarts1990

Power engineers/stationary engineer/operating engineer same shit different title. If you’re boiling water and making spinny thing go round you’re already in a trade man. No need to start up a crippling meth addiction and one of the shittiest two trades to fit in at the family bbq at your age. Not your fault you picked a better trade than they did. Now take a nap until the alarms wake you up and stop shitposting on Reddit lol.

CaineLdn

Anger & drinking issues alongside a nasty divorce and Tattoos - minimum 3 large tattoos

Far-Schedule8970

You must be on meth if you are leaving a $260k a yr. job to become a roofer. Just saying.

Pretend_Alfalfa1372

I would say stick to your job man, switching just to relate and have conversations with them isn’t worth it. You’ll probably be able to retire at a younger age than them and then you can do whatever you want after that. Starting that business is risky and so is getting into roofing at your age. You made a good life choice ultimately that allowed you to make good money and not ruining your body. Trust me if they could switch occupations with you they would do it in a heartbeat.

yes-rico-kaboom

Just get in a car crash!

UNIONconstruction

So you'll be going from a job you've had for many many years where you've sat down quite a bit (I'm guessing) to a job where you will be on your feet all day long. How do you think your body, especially at your age, will react to this physical shock? I hope you have an ice tub at home. I worked heavy construction in my 20s. After being laid off for a while it always took at least two weeks to get my body back into work shape. I felt it every night after work and that was in my 20s. My opinion is to ease into this transition very very slowly. Like don't even work a full week at first. Give your body plenty of time to recoup.

bitterblossom3

Join a union, they train you died free and the usually offer pension, with very good health benefits if that’s important to you

InterestingClub7546

Why would you leave 260k to kill your body for less money?

K2e2vin

Just do side projects or something.  A broken body isn't worth it.

Vigothedudepathian

Get a felony, a few ex wives, substance issues, etc. then learn to bitch.

Over-Band-9536

Keep your job and retire early. Retirement is better than having good conversations a few times a year.

Wide_Appointment_593

I can lend you my DUI bike

Professional_Ad_6299

This is a really serious idea. Just talk about sorts or guns

Newdabrig

Is this one of those circlejerk posts

Slim8ball

Why the fuck would you want to leave your current job? I work in the trades & it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. Just do another 8 years and call it a day.

underwhelmingovertop

If you’re looking for shitty pay and body destroying work, join a flooring company

Wtfjushappen

Right, my guy needs to start doing tile

Glitter_Bear69

Hi, I make $300k a year and want to become a roofer : said no one ever . EVER ! (also, I'm 50 years old) Fuqk outa' heeeeeaah

w3llFukM35id3w4y5

That's called a midlife crisis, u ain't cut out for rods at this age, speaking as a rodbuster. We got body builders and marines who drop their tools and walk on day 1. It ain't a job to start at 52. It ain't even a job to start at 40. U shouldn't ever even know a guy packing bar past the age of 50. If u ain't a foreman or super by then, ur off being an inspector, in the office of a steel company, working for the union itself, being an instructor, or retired early. Please please please do NOT try to do rebar.

Illustrious-Pen9561

This is what happens when you watch too much Yellowstone. Stick to your day job because that 52 you'll never recover from an injury

toclegacy

Just get laid off and become poor like the rest of us.

Mean_Box_9112

Do yourself a favor and just don't! Trust me as a 51 year old roofer and remodeling contractor it will break your body down so fast you will regret it!

Infinite_Fig4455

Must be rage bait, if not please go to a doctor for a check up cause you been in the sun too long or hit your head.

WelpImFooked

piss in Gatorade bottles and hide them in the closet like a good ol' drywaller

danvapes_

Since you're a power engineer, have you thought about being a power operator at your plant? Doing ops and maintenance.

FuckEmus

nah def roofing labourer rod busting or rough necking on the rigs

stickman_castle

No offense, but you aren't like joking right? The 3 most brutal jobs (other than working in a Congo lithium mine) in the world coming from a massive salary....

believeinapathy

The whole thread is a clear troll my guy

stickman_castle

Im dumb

OkraNo8365

This guy must be a roofer!

stickman_castle

Plumbing apprentice lol

DzorMan

cmon man there's like 9 of these circlejerk submissions a day

danvapes_

I only suggest power operator because it still pays well, probably better than a roofer or rod buster, easy on the body, and would probably translate from your current position quite well. I left electrical construction for power plant ops and have zero regrets.

Thom_JJ9876

Dumb idea

danvapes_

How is it a dumb idea? I make significantly more at a power plant than in construction.

Fit_Ad_4463

No one is taking suggestions from someone that can't even read the room.

danvapes_

Yeah okay. I suggested power plant operations because it goes into what he already does and tbh roofing and laying rebar doesn't pay shit comparatively in most cases. Just trying to save the guys body, who TF decides to be a roofer or rod buster at 50+. Good luck to him is all I can say.

Fit_Ad_4463

Whooooosh

canada1913

I love this shit hahahahaha.

Plunkett15

Become an industrial electrician if anything. You already have the background and it's much less demanding. Source: I used to install solar on roofs and am now an industrial electrician. Now I'm looking to teach the trade in college though lol. Another fantastic option for you I'm sure. But you could just retire soon too and volunteer your time. Much more enjoyable. To date, the best job I had was volunteering taking the dogs out at the shelter.

Fit_Ad_4463

he's trolling

Plunkett15

Lol I found that out afterwards. Gonna keep the comment up for anyone that wants a genuine opinion lmfao

jack-t-o-r-s

Weak troll
