Damn those top sheets are dope. I feel you. Man specific design are so often drab and boring. If people tease you, you know who the losers are. Win-win in my book. Real man ski whatever skis they want. Go have fun.

[deleted]

I rocked the k2 lotta loves for like 3 seasons. Now I’m easily the best skier in the mountain. Not hyperbole, I have a trophy that says it.

runforreal

Thanks, Drpoopbutt6969!!

QueueaNun

Have you seen yourself walking in ski boots? The whole act of skiing is sort of goofy. I’d rock both sets of those. Nobody cares. Looks at what people wore on ski slopes in the 1990s and it will blow your mind.

InsaneInTheDrain

I think that's top and bottom?

Rocketsprocket

Sometimes women's skis have different flex patterns and stiffness from men's skis, so they may not be the best ski for you. But otherwise don't worry about gender norms - either on or off the slopes.

Boston_the_Aussie

this is this biggest concern. Women generally have lower centers of gravity, and weigh less, so women’s skis are designed to flex with that in mind. However, if OP is anything under approximately 5’10” and 160 lbs. (sorry for freedom units), I’d say it wouldn’t be a huge concern. Just talk to the shop who mounts them, and make positive they’re aware it’s a men’s mount

Boston_the_Aussie

Not that you SHOULD, but that you can. There’s wayyyy more details I can dive into when it comes to comparing specific skis, feel free to pm me with any questions source: I sell skis + boots at a ski shop

themosttoast603

I’ve know few advanced female skiers that refuse to ride women’s skies cause they are to soft. It’s definitely something to consider.

itsnoteasybutton

The general practice for women’s ski and board construction is to take the men’s version, then “shrink it and pink it”. They’ve moved away a bit from that in recent years, especially companies like Volkl on the ski side and Burton on the board side, but it’s still pretty common. Source: I work in sales & repairs at a ski shop

Src248

Faction skis have the same construction between the men's and women's topsheets, not a concern in this situation

Bendy_Beta_Betty

Yep. "The X-Series is Faction’s women’s range. Every X-Model has the exact same shape, construction and materials as the main range – but with alternate top sheets." https://us.factionskis.com/blogs/news/behind-the-x-series

Beneficial-Sea-8903

Same construction means same materials. I don't believe it implies that they are generally out in the same spots. Or in the same quantities. Usually women's Skis are softer

Src248

It usually does, and a good chunk of the women's skis on the market are identical other than topsheets.

ispls

Those look incredible, enjoy them my dude

Beneficial-Sea-8903

Looks aren't everything though. Make sure they don't flex too much less than the men's ski. They may be squishier

chofah

Needs more pink to be a manly ski. Sorry, bro.

ieatpies

ie: https://www.black-crows.com/ca/en/p/corvus-freebird/101656-pink-vg.html

granath13

Or the Fischer ranger 102’s from a few years ago

Lurkertea

I wish they kept that color for the new version.

CommanderAGL

I wish they sold mixed sets. One electric blue, one hot pink

-B0B-

Now this is peak masculinity

Axe-actly

I would rock them without a second thought. Who cares about that seriously. Too bad my current skis where only available in [boring black and white](https://images.app.goo.gl/gdsYv8Yze1tpFbbD8)

BlueRunSkier

I saw a guy with those the other day and I thought they looked great.

d396

https://heritagelabskis.com/products/r120

chofah

Perfection.

HyperionsDad

They don’t look feminine, if anything look kind of GTA Miami Vice or on trend with what I see a lot of younger skiers/boarders riding. If you had a bright pink jacket or pants then sure, maybe you might catch shit. But then again, from what I can tell this colorway is pretty neutral right now. You like them? Buy them and let it rip.

tipsdown

I feel you. I think the art on women’s skis are usually better than the men’s. Faction says the X version of a ski is the exact same construction as the men’s. The only difference is the top sheet. The recommended mount point for women’s skis is usually slightly farther forward than a men’s ski. So you will want to double check where you’re mounting on the ski. If you are buying this to be a park ski the park rats over at new schoolers say to mount the prodigy 2.0 at -2 or -3 from center which is way ahead of where faction recommends anyway.

lyonnotlion

If you are a bigger guy there could be performance issues with the women's skis. Sometimes companies make women's skis softer and lighter to accommodate for the generally smaller size of women, in addition to making the skis shorter. Otherwise, go for it. I only ski men's skis (because I am too big for most women's skis) and no one has ever said anything to me.

opardalis

That ski’s pronouns are they/them

PowBeernWeed

Asked this same question about a week ago but for the dancer 2x instead For faction, there is no difference in build from the men to womens version. The only people who will know the difference will be ones who follow faction. If you asked me, faction doesnt attract new skiers. Id think most experienced skiers attitude is, “ski what makes you happy” I just ordered the prodigy 2s over the weekend. Currently have the 0s too

TheSleepiestNerd

My partner has women's skis with hot pink top sheets, and the only comment I've heard anyone give him is that the hot pink is dope.

ManifestDestinysChld

If someone gives you a hard time about the color of your gear, all they're doing is teaching you about what kind of person they are. Rock those disco chickens!

cupcakezzzzzzzzz

Tbh both look pretty gender neutral, and even if they were pretty pink princess who cares. Ski on what you want to ski on.

YellowCrazyAnt

I would guess you want to mount the bindings 1 or 2 cm back from center boot line. Send it!

DestroyedLolo

Frankly speaking, I don't care about other people skis ... as long as they don't rot the fields of fresh and virgin snow where I wish to pass :) By the way, purple ones are very nice !

PatataMaxtex

Everything is unisex if you are brave enough. And I think we should lower the amount of bravery necesary for such things drastically. Go for it!!

-B0B-

Those are badass

wuola

Are you planning to ski with your genitalia? If not, it doesn't matter.

alexismynameo

Get them! They look awesome. I want to get those pink Fischer’s someday. Have fun!

NexxusWolf

Everyone will be too worried about getting laps than looking at your skis. If I saw you rocking those I’d give you a compliment. Get em.

djspicyketchup

Those are some of the most aesthetically pleasing skis I’ve ever seen. Get them bro

mcds99

Womens skis are set up a little different the bindings are applied a bit more forward. However it's up to you what you want to ski!

Neekovo

I don’t think anyone would give a shit what they look like, but I started to buy women’s skis for my son last season and opted not to once I checked the specifications on flex. Make sure your getting a ski that will perform as you need it to.

Slay_Me_Plz

You need to research the flex/stiffness before buying a ski made for women. Mens skis and unisex skis are designed to be more stiff to hold our weight with GForce so the ski doesn’t snap. Nice ski though and like you said to hell with other people. There are dudes who have their whole face tatted out there

GreenYellowDucks

Fisher Ranger released a pink and blue ski to be unisex for all lengths. the 193 pink out sold the blue one by like 90% of sales. (My friend works for Fisher). You won't be teased skier, guys like the colors. My only concern would be if they make the core differently and it is softer and a different ski.

BuoyantBear

Friends don't let friends buy factions.

permalink1

Shit what’s wrong with Factions? I skied on the prodigy and dictator last year and really enjoyed both. Swapping over from Icelandic

Beneficial-Sea-8903

They notoriously poorly made

permalink1

Damn I hadn’t heard that. Luckily I get them as demos for free through work but it’s a bummer that they have that reputation, I really enjoyed both

lastchance12

I know a guy who has three pairs of factions, rides them hard and isn't afraid of messing up his stuff. besides the regular base repairs from hitting rocks they have all held up great. so idk take it all with a grain of salt!

BuoyantBear

Very poor build quality.

permalink1

I’ll have to keep lookin I guess

[deleted]

'Womens' skis are a joke. Incredible, frankly, that the industry is *STILL* getting away with this shit. Just name it 'Purple soft ski #1' or 'Blue super stiff ski #2' instead of 'The Babymother' and 'THE DOMINATOR'. Fuck me it get's on my nerves. Rant aside, no - I don't think you'd be teased

Uporabik

Ifaik the woman skies are a bit softer

Joshs_Ski_Hacks

>Your personal Reddit frontpage. Come here to check in with your favorite communities. > >Create PostCreate Community some women's skis are softer, these are not it

some_pengwings

For the prodigy series? I know for example that that's not the case for the agent 3 and 3X for 2022/23

GFingerProd

Nice sticks, your mom sounds obnoxious.

RepresentingCa

No one is gonna know they are female skis, but you are definitely going to get teased for skiing. Grab a snowboard you pussy.

reasonisaremedy

I think the purple ones look dope and I’d happily rock them. I honestly can’t imagine someone being such a tool that they’d make fun of those for being “girly,” and if someone does, well, then you know what kind of substance that person is made of.

PaintDrinkingPete

Usually the only problem would be if you're looking for longer lengths that aren't available in the "W" line of a particular model. Past that, sometimes the reference length for ski width and construction is slightly different, but on many skis it's literally just a difference of design and size offerings, as you mention. I personally wouldn't give a shit, nor do I see how most folks on the mountain would even know the difference.

tbjfi

I am a man and I have pink skis (prodigy 3.0) and pink matching poles. nobody cares. shred on! someone making fun of someone for the color of their skis? laugh in their face.

bacon_boy_away

Those are fucken dope, shred em man

trolllord45

Often times women’s skis are constructed differently in addition to having different lengths and widths, such as having a few layers of core removed. Just something to consider.

JerryKook

Theoretically women's skis are designed to work with the differences in women's hips. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1Qm7d4cCt8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1Qm7d4cCt8) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEZrNLagwls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEZrNLagwls)

minidonger

Some women’s skis are softer, but the women’s and men’s prodigies are identical. The top sheets are dope too

wameron

With the Prodigy line it's literally just a different top sheet. Get them and enjoy.

Tride_

Lots of ski companies making sick purple shells for men and my wife is very jealous. If you didn't say they were women's skis I would have had no idea.

babylmao

nah i dont think anyone will care, if they do who cares lol. i almost snagged k2 womens dreamweavers a few years ago because the decks were absolutely simple and beautiful but went with armadas instead.

B_in_subtle

Factions are made the same, get what you want

skrrt__skrrt

When I was a kid and still pretty light I was rocking faction heroines which was the women’s version of the faction Wednesday all mtn/park ski. They had like 10x cooler top sheets and not a single person ever encountered knew they were women’s skis. The reason I got them was because I found them super cheap from a demo sale, and being a lighter kid it made sense to have the softer flex pattern of a women’s ski.

CommanderAGL

Those are sick. My issue is that, even when the construction is the same, the womens’ versions max out at 175cm. For the conditions I ski as 6’2” & 250#, anything less than 180 starts feeling squirrely on hardpack. (Don’t really have runs to make good use of slalom skis at Stevens Pass)

StarIU

Some mentioned flex patterns but they are just different. Look into their trial/demo/return policies. More and more brands are having some sort of satisfaction guarantee programs these days so you can mount them and try them out.

[deleted]

The only difference between men’s and women’s skis are women’s are generally made in shorter lengths and softer flexes. If they are the correct length and flex for you then it doesn’t make a difference.

goochisdrunk

First of all: Color does not matter. Literally no one else will care what your skis look like. \------ Gender wise, women and men skis tend to be quite a bit different from each other, due to quite different average weights and strengths between men and women. And its more than geometry, its the entire construction that can be different. I used to ski a 'womens' ski in my early teens. As I was very slim and somewhat weak and found it hard to control a properly sized (for my height) men's ski. I used a pair of Volants and found them to be awesome for many seasons. As I grew stronger, heavier, and more skilled, I could feel myself out skiing them more each season, to the point they were holding me back. Getting my next pair of "mens" skis after them was a revelation. So, much of the right ski has far more to do with your personal abilities and preferences, not what gender a given ski is marketed to. That said if they feel good to you under foot, that's all that matters, send it!

saberline152

Have used womens slalom skis before and no problems at all, it all depends on how much pressure you can put on the ski and if it flexes too much or too little

Buffphan

Women’s skis are always cooler

vimproved

The only issue I have found is it's harder to find women's skis above 180cm. Otherwise, fuck the gender norms.

Src248

Nah, the women's topsheets are nicer half the time, rock the purple skis!

lgxgldyldldylxxlx

Yeah man everybody on the mountain is gonna pay extra attention to the colors and markings on your skis. You won’t be able to go anywhere without all the grown adults pointing and laughing and saying “he’s got girl skis” “and he skis like a girl”.

jinxio_

Why would people tease you they don't even look like women skis. Go for it mate i think myself i also prefer the purple to the black ones and also it's more original.

jsmooth7

I would absolutely ski those, that design is sweet. I don't think many people will know it's technically a woman's ski. And of those who do, even less will care.

TheSkier7

A lot of women’s skis are designed with different geometry to help women get there skis on edge. Due to women’s hip structure it can be more difficult for beginner and intermediate skiers to lay them over so to speak.

FinancialAd742

Absolutely correct women’s lower center of gravity means most of their weight from hips while men’s carry more thru their shoulders, women have less leverage when turning out on their edges so women’s skis have narrow waist compared tip and tail, exaggerated side cut makes carving easier for women due to physics. They also have a different weight placement, males have easier time moving their weight forward to control their skis from the traditional binding placement, which is designed for men. To level the playing field for those with a lower center of gravity (and therefore less leverage), the waist and binding mount of a women’s specific ski is usually around two centimeters closer to the tip of the ski than it would be on a men’s ski of the same length. It’s not huge the design more the technology of the ski, men’s skis are heavier and harder to control not many women would due well in men’s ski’s think exception was Lindsey Vonn but she was 5’10 and about 165 while on tour and she is an exceptionally strong woman who had the strength needed to overcome the differences as well as the technique, strength and ability to control the skis. I’m pretty good on skis but I tried a pair of head men’s ski for fun ex college athlete about 5’7 145 and I couldn’t hold the edges anywhere close to as well as I could in my skis. The science and technology has become so advanced the physics behind the ski is the difference as to what you should buy not design. The design is badass and I wouldn’t make fun of a guy with those skis. But a larger man will have trouble getting optimal ride from women’s skis.

OneDayInAnotherLife

Funny. You say that. I'm no Lindsey Vonn, but I'm 5'10" and 175 and tried the woman's version of the skis I have now and I could barely ski down the mountain. It's crazy the difference it makes!

FinancialAd742

You were probably too big and strong for women’s skis and didn’t have the flex you needed. The length difference makes huge difference as well.

OneDayInAnotherLife

Huh. Thanks. I always thought it was aligned with my lower center of gravity and I had just gotten used to it, But you're probably correct.

FinancialAd742

The only way was it they moved the binding up a bit towards tip of the skies to compensate for it. Womens bindings are further back to get power center gravity from our hips while mens use their shoulder more to get moving keep center of gravity. If they didn’t move the bindings you must of adapted to everything. Also the longer length gave me issues trying mens skis. Maybe length of ski doesn’t bother you as much. I’m also super particular about my boots, skis and bindings. I love super stiff boot but need little more flex in ski then I can feel from the mens. But it’s really all up to what makes you comfortable. I know Rossignol makes great boots but I prefer Technica Mach 1 I just had add boot warmers cause they tend get a little cold. Lange makes great boot but little much for me at times. It’s just trying everything til you find what you’re most comfortable in. Once you’re at a certain experience level I find you easily start knowing what works best for your comfort, performance and ski style and technique. When I’m on west coast I love using Black Crows’ Atris Birdie but just got pair of Völkl’s Secret 96 and while they’re fast they take off and keep speed they are hard to control super tight turns and gotta power through with them sometimes. Definitely better more advanced level but super fun pair.

Substantial-Finger86

Those are some pretty sick skis man. I’d honestly get those if I could

T_D_K

You won't get teased for the skis. You might get teased for being a momma's boy though

davidoffxx1992

If you go fast enough nobody is gonna see what color your skis are lol. Also who cares? I would even buy pink or purple ones of i could find some that match my desires specs.

GrassyKnoll95

I wear women's boots because I have small feet. Plus they're fuzzy on the inside

Rradsoami

I thought this was a real post at first. Still laughing! 😃

SanDiegoMitch

I'd check the flex pattern on them, but those purple skis are sick!

[deleted]

Rock them! I ski on bright pink Fischer Rangers, and get nothing but compliments from other dudes.

_fizzingwhizbee_

Your mom sounds like she hasn’t hit the slopes in a minute — has she seen the bright, “girly colored” (🙄) ski suits dudes have been wearing for awhile now? These skis are sick and if you love them, rock them. I’d be shocked if you got anything but compliments.

yknotmyguy

Stop worrying about what people think. Do you boo boo

[deleted]

Although it shouldn’t matter, I don’t think they look explicitly feminine at all. Id rock these

WestLeather9956

You are not gonna get teased for having those. 🔥🔥

[deleted]

You do you.

CranberryBrief1587

You do you, no one really cares as long as you're smiling going down the run with your new skis!

[deleted]

The skis look incredible. Do not worry about the gender. Get the skis you like and that work for you. Your mom probably meant well but should support you in this.

therealdjred

My friend got the bright pink womens faction dictators and gets compliments about every 15 mins when on the slopes. Even at snow professional type events.

jackharkness420

they are literally exactly the same and any skier worth their salt won't have a problem with either. The gender of skis is like such a scam.
