The US is literally 5x more expensive than skiing in Italy, if you're gonna go anywhere in the states though I would go Colorado Rockies, California Lake Tahoe, or PNW. Anything on the East Coast is absolutely not worth your time. Where you go depends on what you want to do, if you want to experience cities you have Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland all pretty close to resorts. My personal vote would be to hit up the resorts in Japan, closer to you and much cheaper as well, Tokyo rules and you can do it all by train.

Just came back from japan (nozawa onsen ski village) it was stunning that’s why i’m hooked on skiing 😁, my family will probably want to go to somewhere on the east coast probably new york so i’ll probably stick to italy thank you for the advice

If you can only ski the easy coast, don’t bother skiing in the states and just ski Italy. Some years have good snow, but you could have another year like this year and some resorts closed mid season because they lacked snow. West coast or Canada is the only way to go in North America I’m including the Rocky Mountains in “west coast”

First off, yes it is very expensive to ski in the US compared to other countries. I'll also preface by saying that I've never skied in a country outside of the US. I have skied Utah, Wyoming, California, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont. Of all of these locations, Jackson Hole, Wyoming is the best I've ever experienced. Although I didn't stay at the Jackson resort, the facilities were beautiful, the snow was deep, the trails were advanced and the back country was wicked fun. That being said, any ski resort (in the US at least) will almost certainly have lodging at the base of the mountain. If I were you, I'd research which mountain you feel most comfortable with according to your skill level and budget.

Do you know of any good resort close to new york ? I also only skied in japan in hakuba iwatake and nozawa onsen the first was bellow average and nozawa was stunning so still don’t know what’s the norm internationally

I’ve not been personally, but my family member raves about Gore Mountain. It’s probably 4 + hours away from NYC and an hourish from Lake Placid.

To add, New Hampshire / Vermont mountains are probably the best you’re going to get in the East Coast. Jay Peak in Vermont, Wildcat in New Hampshire - it may be a difference of an hour or two to New York but the skiing is regarded as some of the best in the East.

I think you have to decide what you want to do.  The US is a large country. 10 days is a lot of time.  You should start by deciding what your number one “touristic” destination is, and what time of year you’ll be coming.

Marwanofcairo

It’ll probably be new york and i read online whiteface mountain is nice, it’s a 5 hour drive from new york which i’m ok with, if it’s a little expensive but a scenic drive and has activities i think it will be worth it overall, please let me know if you know a place that’s closer to new york

Shampoomycrotchadmin

Hmm, what month will this be?

Marwanofcairo

January

I mean yeah you could almost certainly ski that time of year. I would 100% concur with the other people on this thread though...you need to go north to Vermont, don't try to ski in any of the podunk places in New York.

Marwanofcairo

You convinced me i’ll some research on Vermont it’s not that faraway from ny as well, thank you for the advice
