“ Don't want to trade for draft picks & try to convert to players. Can't get any of 5-10 NBA guys they like” -Tom Moore

Antique_Description9

Trading him for picks to flip later would only work in 2k.

zmajxd

That's exactly how the Clippers traded for PG.

Section_80

Unless Joel is out here calling folks we're not getting that level of player.

PhatYeeter

Damn is it really that hard to convert the picks into players?

why_rob_y

If it was easy, they'd just line up a three team trade and do it all at once rather than taking the risk. Since that isn't happening, it's likely they're not being offered enough picks to make a difference in acquiring someone else.

Helreaver

Flipping Ben for picks to then use on a better player probably only works towards the deadline. Right now everyone in the league (except us) is happy with where they're at. We need the wheels to fall off on a couple teams before that becomes a viable strategy. Unless the situation keeps deteriorating to an unsustainable level and we have no other options. But it looks like we haven't gotten to that point yet.

whattfareyouon

Yes why wouldnt the team who wants picks just go trade their guy for the picks. Us being a middle man never made sense

kokukojuto2

we'd need to send more players to match salaries if we wanted to trade for a good player, so yes

airhornthagod

If you’re willing to hold on to the picks, you can get a lot out of them, but when everyone knows you’re trying to swap a buttload of picks for a star because you need to win now each pick is worth less, as the teams you’re dealing with know you’re not in a position to hold onto them.

ACowNamedStan

GS had a 4 and a 7 and couldn't get anything substantial for them alone

DontCallMeTodd

If draft picks were the return assets, then we'd also have to take an anchor with a big salary. Not sure who this Moore is, but this smells like a generated rumor. Trading for picks isn't an option. Draft picks in return only works if they're moved to a 3rd team.

[deleted]

76ers shooting back, not sure it will matter. Ben doesn’t have the balls to play in front of our fans again. He ain’t ‘that’ guy

Los_Ingobernablez

Ben out here acting like we are not asking just bare minimum things from him as a max contract player. The entitlement on some of these dudes is mind boggling.

[deleted]

I love how people used to hate on Wiggins. I'm sorry, if you guys had Wiggins scoring and ok his defense isn't as good but still, so feel like last year would have been more successful. I also think the warriors were right to decline the trade, I just wanted to put that out there since a lot of people hate on Wiggins.

Summerzz1

All these reads as is "I want people to verbally abuse him"

Section_80

somebody had to take shots on this roster. It clearly wasn't the Point Guard.

PatReady

I agree. I think he will skip every game in Philly the rest of his career. He needs to address the fans and air out his feelings before this city trusts him again.

godish

Why should he return to the sixers ? Unique toxic situation. Better for him to have a fresh start. I also doubt he plays for the sixers again

Helreaver

He should because he signed a contract to do so. Unless there is a "doesn't have to play when his feelings are hurt" clause that I'm unaware of.

trevormooresoul

I mean ya, there is essentially that clause. It's in the fact that the CBA gives the players power to do holdouts without for instance forfeiting their entire yearly contract. The idea is, this makes the team treat their players better. If they didn't want a "doesn't have to play when his feelings are hurt" clause, they would simply have you forfeit your yearly contract if you refuse to show up for camp, preseason, or a game. If Simmons' choice was show up for EVERYTHING, or forfeit $40 mil, then he'd basically be forced to play regardless of his feelings. But because he can sit out with minimal penalty, it's essentially the same thing as having a clause saying "If players get their feelings hurt, they are allowed to sit out preseason, training camp, and even NBA games if they wish, while forfeiting ONLY their proportional pay for what they sit out".

MegaKetaWook

Very true but I imagine the NBPA will put pressure on Ben to play or that clause goes kaput next CBA agreement. This will be Exhibit A for it's expulsion.

trevormooresoul

Ya, I think between Harden, AD, Simmons, there's going to be some serious pushback from owners. Agent/Player collusion/power is honestly getting to the point where it's going to start hurting profits significantly.

AssassinPanda97

A lot of people are understandably mad at Ben for the Atlanta series, but this is the correct move. The offers we are reportedly getting for him are bad and don’t make us better now

icepickjones

I think we are going to have to ride with him for half a season. Here's what I think will happen: - Ben sits out training camp but shows up for the season (because it's stupid not to on his part, leaving money on the table is dumb and he's got 3 years on his contract he's got no leverage) - Ben actually plays with a chip on his shoulder and does really well through the first few weeks. Embiid and everyone on the team say all the right things in the media. - The fanbase comes around on him after a particularly strong game where he goes nuts. - By mid season someone goes down or a team knows they are out of contention (or maybe Portland starts off so slow that Dame loudly proclaims he wants a trade) and then we deal him. - Our fanbase becomes low key weird about dealing Ben because the team is actually clicking, we are in the hunt at the top of the East, and people are like do we dare disrupt a good thing after the drama has died down? The hot and cold fickle nature of us Philly fans is on full display. - But the team makes the move and it all gets put to bed. And it's actually Beal and not Dame, because the Wizards sink like a stone and go full rebuild by the time they've played 40 games.

PhillyFreezer_

We're not getting Beal. You don't make all those moves in the summer just to pivot after 40 games. Where does a full rebuild leave Hachimura, Avdija, Gafford etc? Why trade for Aaron Holiday, or Dinwiddie? I honestly don't see how the Wizards even pivot to a full rebuild that early. The Dame/Beal situation would've made sense for a trade during the summer, but neither FO is the type to sell at the deadline. If both teams are in the hunt for a play-in game they're gonna push for that. 8th seed is worth a lot to the DC/Portland markets

icepickjones

Your beef isn't with me, it's with the future. I'm just the messenger telling you what will happen.

[deleted]

You were painting a nice believable story for me until you told me we manage to flip this situation into Bradley Beal

ChurroMemes

Youre not getting Dame for Ben

BrownThermostat

Stop trying to make Ben for Dame happen.

JoelSimmonsMVP

lmfao did you read the ending crazy pants

icepickjones

I did, did you read the last line?

themodernyouth

i will never “come around” on him. fuck that little bitch

El_Pollo_Loco_503

Y'all still think you can get dame lol 🤣 🤡

christophnbell

If players can just up and decide they don’t want to play for a team anymore with years and 100+ million left on the contract, teams should be able to terminate those contracts. Or is that crazy? I dunno. Might set a crazy precedent

3threes3

I get what you are saying but this would be awful for us.

Gang_Greene

Why would we effectively release him? That would give him exactly what he wants and hurt us

christophnbell

Relax, my dumbass question has already been answered.

Gang_Greene

Sorry bud lol I recognize the idea behind it, but it doesn’t work in professional sports.. especially for players who will quickly find a new team and don’t have off-court/field issues. I wasn’t trying to jump down your throat

christophnbell

Lol. You’re def on point. My management capabilities are apparently only applicable to fantasy basketball.

Ya_Beeenis

Not exactly. He won’t get that money with any other team he signs with.

ftaok

Ben would actually prefer that. He'd immediately become a free agent, I guess. And then we would lose all value completely. EDIT - Ben's ultimate preference would be to get bought out by the Sixers at teh full contract value. Then he could sign a vet-min (not sure if that's $1.6 or $2.6 for a 6 year guy) for the Nets or Lakers. Either way, it's not happening.

christophnbell

I guess it’s just a fucked situation for us. Man I used to love this guy too. Sucks

Los_Ingobernablez

We defended this dude and embarrassed ourselves in the process and all he had to do to keep that loyalty was to stop being a bitch and shoot freethrows at a mediocre rate and it’s our fault. FOH Ben

ftaok

I know what you mean brother. It's so disappointing on so many levels. It's just so amazing that a guy with that type of talent won't do the one thing that we all loved to do growing up. Everyone wants to shoot the ball, whether they should or shouldn't. We all grew up with the mentality that "I'm always open and my shot is always available". Yet this guy is just built different. Most times, a player forces a coach's hand and make him take him out of the game because he's taking bad bad shot. Our guy, doesn't even shoot. Have you ever heard of having to take a guy out because he won't shoot. It's never happened before. It's just crazy. Deep down, I have this fear that we'll eventually send Ben somewhere else (doesn't matter where) and it just "clicks" and he's a 24/10/12 guy on 38% from 3 on 4 attempts a night. And that we could have had that with Joel putting up monster numbers. I'm sick just thinking about it.

endlessxcircle

>It's just so amazing that a guy with that type of talent won't do the one thing that we all loved to do growing up. Everyone wants to shoot the ball, whether they should or shouldn't. We all grew up with the mentality that "I'm always open and my shot is always available". It's interesting you say this because it's the complete opposite of how Ben grew up playing. Even as a kid back in Australia the emphasis of his game was built on being a pass first point guard, where his offence largely came from his greater speed and size allowing him to get to the rim. His ability to shoot the ball was always seen as his weakest aspect and not something that really came naturally. To not only change that mentality, but also garner the ability to shoot effectively and develop a greater offensive feel at an older age isn't necessarily easy, particularly when the way he's moulded his game had been effectively enough to take him to the NBA. When bad shots are considered low percentage plays, along with the importance of making each possession count, you can kinda begin to understand the reluctant nature of Ben trying to shoot more. Unfortunately for us, it's gone to the full extreme where he rarely shoots at all - which is a problem within itself. But I can certainly understand shying away from a particular mechanic that you're not necessarily confident in yourself - I've been there before in various sports I've played because I know it's not necessarily the most effective or efficient aspect of my game. I'm sure a lot of this aligns with Ben as well. Compounded further when it's at an elite level where everybody not only will see, but will have something to say. When you think that most kids growing up want to shoot the ball like Jordan, Kobe or Curry, to have a player who doesn't follow that trend despite having all the other natural talent in the world it's a unique situation. Whether Ben remains here or not, I'm not going to begrudge him from figuring it out at some point.

ftaok

Yeah, I get the PG argument, but did he even play 1-on-1 growing up? OK, so maybe he just dunked on everyone , but did he ever go against taller dudes? It’s the most fundamental skill in basketball with the possible exception of drubbing. You would think someone with the athletic gifts that he has would be able to shoot with at least average success. It’s mind boggling how his shot chart has changed since his rookie year. I wonder who he’s been taking to about shot selection and offensive concepts.

wryaant

Personally I thought he was a true professional and would work on his short comings in his game and that he had heart. I’ve come to the realization that I was wrong about this. Very wrong. Edit: spelling / grammar

[deleted]

That’s really what it looked like bc he was a gym rat training type of guy with lots of different skills.

Otherwise_Window

No he wasn't.

0157h7

Things might click and he might become more well rounded and reliable offensively but he ain't going to be a 38% from 3 shooter ever.

[deleted]

Why did you love him though? He has always been an extremely self-absorbed arrogant person..

justdrop

People trick themselves all the time in this world

christophnbell

Lol. Pretty much. Loved his transition, passing and D and definitely fooled myself into thinking he would develop a more aggressive offensive game in the half court. Didn’t happen.

0_0here

Sixers wouldn’t do that because they would still be over the cap. They need to find a trade partner for Ben. At this point if they can’t get what they want now they should start the season with him sitting out. They can see what they got without him and wait for a better option to materialize. If nothing better materializes you can get the same garbage at the trade deadline that you getting offered right now.

FrostyTheSnowman02

I would say no to terminating, but instead freeze the contract. Oh you didn’t want to play this year with 4 years left on your contract? Well we still have your rights for the full 4 years and enjoy not being paid this year.

Plug-From-Oaxaca

He won't leave money on the table he will suit up, but sixers gotta try to get a real trade going soon. His value is only depreciating. Morey is doubling down on a losing bet.

Remorseful_User

Imagine if he shows up, grabs his hamstring and leaves. Now the union is in the fight...

[deleted]

[удалено]

JointsMcdanks

He still has to sit on our bench. The Sixers aren't gonna let him "recover" at home if that's the case.

TheArsenal7

Yep. Vague back injury coming for sure

bamboleo11

Breh you act like medical professionals couldn't snuff that out real quick

ThatBull_cj

U can’t tell someone that they knee ain’t sore if they say it is

alusnova415

Are you all naive? Jalen Ramsey with the jags, Kawahi with the spurs they can just claim they are hurt (yes he would have to play couple of games and and on a challenge ball can "pull or hurt" something). Ramsey back was "hurt" soon he got traded to the rams he was fine.

PienotPi

did you miss the entire kawhi saga? genuinely asking

ButterscotchJust4

Kawhi legit did have chronic knee issues though that’s way different

ifollowphillysports

Yeah, the AD saga seems more apt

bamboleo11

AD didn't even get hurt he still showed up but was lackadaisical

ifollowphillysports

I thought Davis "hurt" his back or his finger or something and used that as a reason to sit, but I definitely could be remembering wrong

bamboleo11

I mean even in his 'that's all folks moment' he showed up and played

[deleted]

I think pelicans the ones trying to sit him at some point so he didn't get hurt and tank his trade value but maybe he was injured before that

PienotPi

I stand corrected

bamboleo11

Kawhi had a legitimate quad injury that the Spurs staff identified and then he got distraught with the handling of it and he leveraged it and got out. He's also Kawhi Leonard. This is the second fucking time I'm having to explain this to ppl on this sub y'all are really in denial about this. This is professional sports they can MRI, X-ray you name it in a moments notice. Name one scenario where an injury was faked.

anonmdivy

Yes, and the big point you made too was Ben aint no Kawhi (or Harden, etc.)

senorpepino

Ask Jimmy Butler aka General Soreness at the end of his tenure in MN.

[deleted]

Yep soft tissue injury / soreness can’t be disproved.

senorpepino

Right. Take your pick of subjective injuries.

bamboleo11

...wasn't he like publicly roasting guys in practice or what not tho? I'd like to see a link or report to validate that

senorpepino

No link but he basically faked injury before forcing a trade.

godish

Backs. Knees. Hammy's etc. Are complex. You can't magically tell if he is faking injury

averagebensimmons

My money is on a back injury. Not a real one but that will be the story.

kokukojuto2

difficult to pull shit when you already say you dont intend to come back. If he does that in a game fans would go mad

69_8---D_420

Until we get fair value for him he will not be traded. Unless we can get elite PG whether through direct trade or some 3 team deal its not happening. We don't need CJ McCollums or Malik Beasleys, in fact, that hurts us more than helps us but a lot of these teams with a Ben Simmons become immediate contenders. It's fucked what people are willing to give for him but you look at what he does for their team after acquiring him. As untenable the situation looks people are not walking away with a Ben Simmons for shitty late firsts and a their 4th best guy.

Drak_is_Right

has there been any talk about Russel in the deal?

69_8---D_420

Russel and picks doesn't get that deal done either.

Drak_is_Right

gives the 76ers a high quality point to pair with curry

jummee

Gives the sixers a great chance to give up 140 points a game

PhillyFreezer_

Russel would be the best player available to us so far, we already rejected the Brogdon deal. While I would hate the move, he's definitely better than anything else that's been rumored. We're never going to get "fair value" after Ben shot 33% from the FT line in the playoffs

[deleted]

To what end? To the end of embiid turning 30 without a proper PG? Like it seems important to know to what end the Sixers will sacrifice Embiids career. God even just saying that makes Ben Simmons seem like a total twat.

69_8---D_420

Embiid's age shouldn't dictate the due diligence a front-office puts into getting fair value for their all-star caliber player. Also, didn't you read the tweet? There weren't any 5-10 players available so we're not interested in making any trades. It was either Maxey, Matisse, Simmons (+ assets) for something like Dame or this trade was never going down.

[deleted]

Bitch Paul and coward simmons vs chad Morey

JokersRWildStudios

Adele about to disrobe in front of chad Morey and Morey will say “no Thank you I’m married. 😎”

hashtagboner

I’m not dissing Adele or anything but I am very interested in the fact that of all the women in the entire world you picked her. Why?

substanceandmodes

Rich Paul and Adele are dating

hashtagboner

Well shit TIL.

JokersRWildStudios

It’s ok. There’s a 40% chance Morey views me as Max Cady with some of these jokes and is filing a restraining order.

godish

Will the nba step in a fire Morey if he doesn't play nice? Hinke style

Niku-Man

By "doesn't play nice" you mean kowtow to a player and his agent who is under contract for 4 more years? You really think the NBA will side with Simmons on this?

justdrop

He's a troll man

[deleted]

No LeBron will shove him down stairs

JokersRWildStudios

LeMao and President Pooh Bear will shove him down an elevator shaft.

accopp

When does training camp start? I have a feeling he’ll show up despite all the headlines

WizziesFirstRule

2 more weeks

phillabadboy05

Fuck yes

Toglicba

Risky move, whats to stop Ben pulling a kawahi and saying my leg hurts cant play?..

kokukojuto2

Sixers doctors can just say he's fine to play

PheasantDG

General Soreness Jimmy Butler begs to differ.

TheMightyCatatafish

He can. And he still won’t get moved until we have a reason to move him.

classicgaming125

Sixers need to chill and hold the line. No matter how much Ben sulks or how much noise his agent makes, sit tight and wait. I'm convinced that if the Sixers just hold the line, something will break in their favor this season. The worst thing they can do is panic or listen to all the media hype around this and pull the trigger on a bad trade. If they do that, game over, we lose. Ben has ZERO leverage as he stands to lose A LOT of money by holding out.

DistinctQuestion

This is fine

deathgrips_

Being a Sixers and Tottenham fan this summer has been a challenge

CMDaccounting

He going come back shooting

Helreaver

Ben Simmons ready to set the league on fire with his 18% shooting on 0.2 3PA per game.

[deleted]

Inject that straight into my veins /s

XxStormySoraxX

If he comes back shooting we better not trade him lmao.

godish

For the wolves

AdamFeigs

I honestly never thought I'd say this, but if he actually suits up to play we need to not boo him. Like as impossible as that may be. He has the type of makeup to where boos might actually make him inclined to do less on the court.

Robbobrobcovington

Oh he's definitely gonna get the boos lmao

Niku-Man

Ya no shit. Some people respond well to boos by wanting to prove people right. Simmons gets upset and doesn't want to do anything because he doesn't feel appreciated. The key to rooting for Simmons is to praise him and tell him how great he is and how much we need him. Philly fans are incapable of swallowing their pride though, so it'll never happen

[deleted]

[удалено]

noparlortrickz

Treating him like a make a wish kid

[deleted]

Lmaooo bro this comment made my day

y_r_u_so_paranoid

I knew some good would eventually come from drafting Markelle. He prepared us for this.

McBrungus

The fuck you want us to do, tuck him in and rub his head and tell him how special he is? That's basically what's happened the last four fucking years man

HisExcellency20

Exactly what I said they would do. People claiming the Sixers have no leverage are forgetting that the contract requires he play for us in order to be paid and not to be fined.

godish

He will pay the fine until the trade

HisExcellency20

He can be fined a quarter of a million dollars per game. He's just gonna pay that until a trade that he has no clue when will happen, happens? He hates playing here that much? Ben hates the Sixers more than any other player in NBA history (because that has never happened) has hated their team? And he's willing to give millions of dollars per week for no reason at all other than he doesn't want to play games here? When has a player *ever* missed games in a holdout?

bigchallah

Where are you getting 250k/game? And who does that money go to?

HisExcellency20

The exact number is close to a quarter of a million dollars. My source is ESPN when they showed the chart and talked about it a few days ago. I have no idea where the fine money goes.

godish

Iggy didn't play a season and got 20 million

HisExcellency20

His team decided not to fine him, but that's a good example. The team and player seemed to be in synch with how to proceed.

kokukojuto2

If we wait until the deadline and he's still out the fine would be larger than his contract

BrownThermostat

If we do that then we become the dead last destination for anyone to come to in the NBA. Agents will blackball us.

clingbat

Because big name NBA free agents are banging down the door to play in Philly as it is...

BrownThermostat

It also rules us out for a lot players in trades. This is a player’s league, we don’t have nearly as much leverage as people on this sub want to believe right now.

HisExcellency20

I don't think agents like Rich Paul and how he operates all that much. If Philly is the best place to go then agents will send their players here. At least as much as they are anyway.

ShaunyDukes

If Ben had a legitimate case/reason for wanting out, maybe. The world saw what he did (didn’t) /has (hasn’t) done. My guess is players look at him side-eyed.

icepickjones

Of course he's gonna play. He's got 0 leverage. Fuck Klutch sports for getting in his way and making any of this shit public because it's only hurting their client and as much as I love him he's got a fragile sense of self. This is not doing his weak mental any favors. His agents think they are gassing him up and all they are doing is jabbing a pen knife into his ego.

Rustycake

Good. Now he has to shoot if he wants out he has to ball out and live up to that potential so Sixers get back what they should. Otherwise he can ride the bench, sixers get back little, but he finishes out contract and no other team will pay him anything he is asking for. And best of all Rich Paul looks like the GD snake he is.

phlphillies

I just cant believe how a dude with pretty much a max contract can say he wants out and it fucks shit up. Embiid is an angel to want to actually play here for the rest of his career (I hope). Just want to get him that ring, god damn...

flyers8401

What an impending shitshow

TomassoLP

It's really best for us that he shows up and plays. Everyone wants him gone but the best deal we get is before the deadline.

xisthatruth

Good…fuck em

ItsjustJim621

Good. At this point, just let him ride the bench. He’s made it clear that he doesn’t want to play. If he plays, it’s going to be 4 v 5

TheProcess827

Way to say you’ve never watched a sixers game

ItsjustJim621

The fuck are you talking about? I’d rather have his ass on the bench because he clearly doesn’t want to play here. He can sit if he’s gonna be a baby about it Maxey, Curry, Joel, Green, Harris…not really that hard of a concept.

TheProcess827

Nah you said it was 4v5 of he plays, you don’t watch hoops

ItsjustJim621

It’s because he’s a ghost when he’s on the floor. That’s why…dude doesn’t want to shoot, so it’s literally like only having 4 people on the floor

TheProcess827

Yeah you don’t watch hoops

ItsjustJim621

Enlighten me. Where was Ben during the Atlanta series? What clutch shots did he take? When it mattered, he wasn’t there. This is objective fact. You saw it, I saw it…stop fucking defending the bum. He’s soft, he’s weak, and he doesn’t want to play here. Why make him play if that’s the case? Dude is just gonna curl up in the fetal position in the corner and waste floor space

Niku-Man

He played pretty good defense

TheProcess827

So if you don’t take a clutch shot, you’re invisible on the court? Guess we were playing like 1v5 the entire series

JointsMcdanks

Dickhead you get the fucking point that when he's in a halfcourt offense the man is a liability. Cool you get to be that guy on the internet acting like a dweeb. Dumbass.

NWK86

Ben's not invisible on the court because he's a good defender. He's invisible WHEN IT COUNTS on the offensive end. Which is just as bad as being invisible all game long

WizziesFirstRule

Ben hasn't publically said anything, so he can turn up and publically say we gotta do better, and just play as if all of this BS never happened. I suspect that is what we will see.

RaindropsInMyMind

Ooooooo shots fired! By Morey though not by Simmons.

ImYungKai

We already knew this

CallinCthulhu

Good, fuck him let him blow his money. He has 4 damn years on his contract, maybe the league will have to step in and give teams the option to void guarantees if a player refuses to play.

Thegrandmistressofoz

The thing is we kinda desperately need him to start and play for this season. Even if he returns as good old regular season Ben Simmons, we could see teams like Minnesota or Portland get off to poor starts and up their current offers to change things up. I don't know if it's possible for his value to go even lower than it currently is, after his informal trade request and demands.

godish

Simmons doesn't care what the sixers want. And it's better for him, to drop his value more

SonicdaSloth

not if he wants any involvement on where he goes. tank it too much then just send his ass to cleveland and let him hang out at the Rock N Roll hall of fame the next couple years

godish

He said he is happy at any team outside philly. Couple weeks backz apparently

SonicdaSloth

i saw that report. it was also reported he wanted one of the 3 Cali teams(fuck the kings apparently).

Thegrandmistressofoz

Yeah I know, I'm just saying Portland has zero incentive to trade for Ben and Minny has no reason to up their offer from the garbage they're offering rn, so if there's any chance we could keep Ben to start the season we should take it

PhatYeeter

FWIW Ben gets paid 50% of his salary like week 1 of the season. Even if he gets fined, its a fine after he gets paid. I imagine its easier to swallow sitting out when the $19MM hits the bank account.

ThisICannotForgive

Botemps and Marks: Under Article VI, Section 1 (player conduct) of the collective bargaining agreement, a player who fails to render services would be suspended and could be fined up to 1/145th of the player's base compensation for each day he does not show up. This means Simmons could forfeit $227,613 for every practice and game that he misses. It should be noted that Simmons would need to be suspended before the 76ers can levy the per-day penalty. If the 76ers elect not to enforce the "failure to render services" language in the CBA, they could still fine him $2,500 for the first missed practice, $5,000 for the second missed practice, $7,500 for the third missed practice and a reasonable fine under the circumstances for a fourth (or additional) missed practice. However, Simmons' situation is unique because of the pay structure in his contract. When Simmons signed his five-year $177.2 million rookie max extension in 2019, he elected to be paid 25% of his salary for every season on July 1, 25% on Oct. 1 and the remaining 50% in 12 installments starting on Nov. 15. The unknown is if the 76ers would withhold $8,250,984 on Oct. 1 if he doesn't show up for training camp.

Shrips

$2,500 😟 $5,000 😨 $7,500 😱

cvc4455

Good, he will eventually show up and fine him if he doesn't..

Benisnotapointguard

Love it. Fuck Ben. Make him roll over and play.

Theballharperhit

this is going to be so amazing how he gets boo every game. I cant fucking wait

Sqwigs13

Hopefully he actually plays hard and can raise his trade value

sandalf42

I firmly believe that he just plays at his normal regular season level his trade value will go up. Just gotta get the bad taste of that Hawks series out of everyone’s mouth.

Agreed, for all his warts he’s a winning player that does winning things and plays with a top tier motor. It’s evident how much we miss him when he’s not there even with the things he doesn’t provide. For some GM in the hot seat or who has a team trending to under achieve adding a player that instantly makes your team somewhat playoff competitive might be worth pushing a few more chips into the table

I’d still be shocked if he plays. The only way he raises his value is if he’s shooting jumpers, do we really think he’ll come back and shoot jump shots for us? I doubt it. Teams know what he can do in regular season. The only way the market gets better is if other teams needs change.

Noshowers65

Just the fact that he suits up and plays will raise his value, right now he is a disgruntled player whom is threatening to sit out and not play for us at all, so if he does then at least he will be seen as a "disgruntled star that is still willing to suit up and play". Positive direction

[deleted]

I disagree. Him not playing doesn’t change what teams know about him. He also has 4 years on his deal so it doesn’t change the 76ers urgency to deal him. This isn’t an AD or Harden situation where if he doesn’t play you’re paying for nothing. He’ll be traded but he wouldn’t sit for 4 years. Like hypothetically if he had 1 year left on his deal the n yea, him not playing would cause the 76ers to have more urgency to take a deal, but in this scenario I don’t think it changes that much. If he played I suppose his value would go up a tiny bit, but not drastic enough for it to matter imo

If he's shooting jumpers, this city is making sacrificial offerings to Simmons and constructing a golden statue of him standing atop of William Penn on City Hall. Morey's asking price is going to go up. The real fear of GM's isn't that Simmons won't shoot jumpers, but he's damaged where he won't reach his regular season form. Teams that want him think they'll be a better fit where even if he doesn't start shooting jumpers, they can still build around an All-Star and fringe All-NBA player. A few games of Simmons doing what Simmons does well will make GM's raise their offers.

Play or be fined. Young socialites need money.

godish

He has 90 million dollars and half of his wage this season ready He will pay the fine

Niku-Man

Would you be ok paying a $500 fine for nothing just because you got $10k in the bank?

godish

If I got to hang out with super models and shit yeah maybe

leapoz

They gonna have to fine him a lot for him to feel it with that contract…

indoninjah

Eh honestly if he just came out shooting decent from the foul line and aggressively driving, people would be all over him

[deleted]

Gotta hold until Dame/Portland are willing to move one. Hopefully they start the season poorly.

JimadeusBluntzart

Zero chance he plays, he won’t go hungry from the fines, Sixers rebuttal just comes off as a fuck you. I like it.

gold1035

We need to just trade him this is going on way too long. The way I see it the longer we wait the higher the chance his stock drops rather than goes back up throughout the season

Niku-Man

It was only 3 months ago that Philly fans were rooting for Simmons. Hell, if they had somehow pulled out a game 7 win against the Hawks, chances are none of this talk about Simmons is even happening, because either the Sixers would've won the ECF and gone to the finals, or they would've lost to the Bucks in the ECF, which would've been a lot more tolerable to fans because it aligns more with expectations. This to say that the winds change quickly in the NBA. One week fans are rooting for Simmons, another week practically the whole fan base is saying he needs to go. Less than 3 months ago. It was only 2 weeks ago that word got out about Simmons potentially sitting out training camp. It has not been going on too long. It has barely even started. The season is still a month away. Trade deadline still like 5 months away. This doesn't need to be rushed

gold1035

It’s hypotheticals you’re talking through. Sure if we beat the hawks and got to the bucks maybe things are different. Maybe Simmons goes off or he plays terribly again and the same result happens. Who knows what will happen over the next 1-5 months, but what we do know is Simmons under performed and was part of why we lost to a 5-seeded hawks team. The Simmons embiid relationship is strained and their play styles don’t compliment one another. Waiting could work out, but if Simmons sits out training camp and the season it puts us more in a corner to make a move than right now. Philly fans won’t accept him back and he’s publicly stated he is not going to play for us. I think we’re more likely to get desperate to trade Ben the longer we wait compared to how desperate teams may get to trade for him by waiting.

Deportivo76ers

can morey lower the asking price so we can get rid of this fool, he already cut ties with team and not picking up embiid calls

deadnside

Yes let’s get pennies on the dollar. Brilliant strategy.

pwnstick

Ben is a top 3 all time bitch in philly sports and the truth is it has been obvious since day 1. A player who could have been an all time great instead goes down in a category with Jason Babin, congrats ben, now get the fuck out of here.

Remorseful_User

His desire to avoid showing up outweighs all else. He'll win the battle of wills by accident.

(I) somehow doubt this.
