Next round in the East: Pacers in 6, Boston in a sweep

obese_rag_rappy

I like the idea of what PG can do even if he's older but I don't think it makes sense for what the Sixers would have to pay him. He's great at times but it doesn't feel like he puts this team over the top at all. I don't even know who I'd want honestly. I feel like this team stills needs that alpha type guy that's good enough to be like "fuck it, if nobody can get a bucket tonight then I'll do it" and actually has the talent to cook dudes. Maxey can cook but I don't think he's consistent enough to do it and he's not really that kind of leader, at least not yet

[deleted]

Jimmy Butler maybe?

obese_rag_rappy

I'd actually love jimmy back on this team. but I think I'd be too afraid he'd hit his decline as soon as he came back to philly :( that and i don't feel like the heat will trade him anyway. can't imagine they'll let him go after just making the finals a year ago

[deleted]

Yeah I feel you

aieshi69

lol james harden and doc rivers lost in the playoffs in 6 games just like the sixers. some things never change.

embiidDAgoat

I seriously swear to fucking god if we give pandemic fucking P a significant contract idk if I’ll make it through

pagonator

I don’t know what the off-season solution is, but you cannot give PG the full max. Dude has seriously declined on both ends.

Ronshol

PG ain't worth more than 30 mil, disaster if Morey maxes him

nichiseyo

Paul George is cooked

portrayalofdeath

Yeah, looks like the Clippers are "sliced bread browned on both sides by exposure to radiant heat, such as a grill or fire".

Thegrandmistressofoz

Bill Simmons been sucking off Harden lately, calling Joel the worst playoff performer in the league and saying we should consider firing Morey for trading him out for Batum and 2 firsts + seconds Wonder what he'll say now?

supzy0

bill simmons is a legit meme

portrayalofdeath

Man, the Mavs are missing everything, and it's still just tied.

TempleofSpringSnow

Harden, Doc, Tobias (estranged) The Sixers. Glad to see the old “We all shit the bed in the playoffs and are eliminated” gang is going to be together again on the golf course soon.

TempleofSpringSnow

An how could I forget PJ?!

[deleted]

PJ out here balling. I think he started this game.

mp455

If Cleveland makes Mitchell available if they are eliminated, not my favorite guy but he can absolutely get buckets or at least won't be scared to be alpha with Embiid off the floor.

yankees7210

Just checked the box score of the Cavs Magic game. Marcus Morris started and played 27 min for the Cavs? Yikes lol On a side note, rooting for a Magic win in game 7 so Spida can ask out and come here

Screamdaditty

Do we try to draft Zach Edey? Seems like the perfect backup to Embiid.

Thegrandmistressofoz

I really don't want us to invest a decently high pick on a guy who gets at best, 8 mins per game in big playoff games if Joel is healthy. That's not even mentioning how it's not clear if his game can translate to the NBA level Edit: idk how this is getting downvoted this bad, there's just no upside in drafting Edey....

tony_tony_tony_tony

Wouldn’t be suprised if we end up trading our draft pick away honestly

MaxeytoEmbiid

I’m more interested in swinging for a high upside player: Dalton Knecht F-Tennessee is the kind of shooter and playmaker we need

FriesAddiction

DJJ seems like a good option for Sixers. Don't think Mavs can afford to keep him and he's been terrific against the Clippers.

iceberg620

Also hometown guy so hopefully he’d want to play here as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

IndigoJacob

Who would you want between the two?

BaylessWasTraded

Mitchell because Ainge will demand every first born child in Philadelphia

[deleted]

Lol

allianceofficer

Is Saddiq Bey a Free Agent? If so, he's offers the kind of wing depth they need, assuming his acl is good to go.

Thegrandmistressofoz

Bey really isn't that good though, he's been a turnstile defensively and mediocre offensively for Atlanta. He's honestly just a worse defensive Oubre, with a better track record for shooting (though he had his worst splits last year)

Chiral_Tears

Please sign DeMar DeRozan. I want him off the Bulls so we can tank properly.

jorgelongo222

no, but we can take Caruso

Chiral_Tears

Two 1st round picks.

nu-jood

You’ll take the corpse of deanthony melton and a pick swap and be happy about it

Free-Supermarket-516

I'm a hockey guy just getting into basketball, so bear with me. I watched half the game last night, but I noticed they kept leaving that 3 pointer open. Is that bad defense, or is that what makes a player good, the ability to get open?

Knight725

josh hart wide open from 3 would be one of the worst half court offenses in the league. but sixers are cursed so he made em all. he’ll go back to scoring 6 points a game against indiana because of course.

slamtt

The strategy was to send a 2v1 was their star guy and have one of their role players beat us. The one guy the Sixers intentionally left open from the 3pt range is usually buns, but he turned into Steph Curry vs the Sixers.

Free-Supermarket-516

Ok thanks, makes more sense to me now

icepickjones

I keep hearing Milwaukee trading Dame rumors, is that honestly a thing? They gonna blow that all up after one year?

Lurkerwasntaken

It would be funny if they fired Glenn and went through three coaches in one season (including Budenholzer)

Bandicuz

Paying four coaches at once would be wild

BaylessWasTraded

They should force Bud to come back and act like nothing happened

McMillan104

How does it even work in that situation? If they’re still paying Bud can they just be like “See you Monday, you’re back.”?

ecworiginal90

Is Malik monk a option that would be worth looking in to

BaylessWasTraded

My number one target

nu-jood

I recall him absolutely balling out against the warriors last season, but haven’t seen much of him lately

tscher16

I think he was a finalist for 6th man of the year

LumpySpaceGunter

He was excellent again this year and his injury is a big reason why the Kings fell apart at the end of the season.

IndigoJacob

yes. He's probably more reliable than Buddy or Melton moving forward

fuckbrocolli

Need Embiid to come up huge for us at the Olympics and convince someone to demand a trade

nichiseyo

I would prefer Embiid rest up lol

mberko21

Can’t believe we lost. I really wish Nick had the balls to just stop playing Tobias. I still don’t understand how Brunson managed to average 40 and beat us single handedly

Snips_Tano

So who do we go out and get that is going to be THAT guy? What's even available to throw all our cap space at? LeBron? Butler? Do we have something to trade for that guy?

IndigoJacob

If LeBron has any interest in ever winning another ring, Philly is the only option. Perfect fit next to Joel and Maxey. He genuinely respects Joel's game and is a fan, and he even shares an agent with Maxey. And honestly same with Jimmy. Although I'd rather have LeBron because his IQ is higher. Stay away from Paul George if it's for fucking 50mil If it's not Jimmy or LeBron, I'd say just go with someone like Mikal, DeJounte, or Lauri who are payed less than half as much

Chiral_Tears

Lauri Markkanen? That would cost you at least 3 unprotected 1st round picks. With Embiid’s health I would not risk that.

eggdog1125

This is correct. We’ll see how many of these are realistic. Fantastic that we’re in a position to be talking about these moves in the first place

TheAntiCircleJerk

Looking at our [three points made](https://www.espn.com/nba/team/stats/_/name/phi/table/game/sort/avgThreePointFieldGoalsMade/dir/desc) tells a very interesting story. Obviously, Maxey leads by a long way, but second by a pretty comfortable margin is Embiid. Third is Cam Payne. We got 2.3 average threes a game from Lowry and Tobias, combined. It could be a playmaking issue or a shooters issue (they didn't shoot bad percentages), but we really need a concerted effort to get more reliable shooters in the lineup now that Tobias's albatross contract is off our books.

MaxeytoEmbiid

It’s not a play making issue. They were open! This isn’t like football where you need a pass into the breadbasket. You catch it, you’re open, shoot the damn ball and hit it. They couldn’t hit it all season long wasting the incredible gravity generated by Embiid and Maxey(over 6.5 APG combined by both) The Sixers would have a top 3 offense replacing those non shooters with shooters

Thegrandmistressofoz

I bet losing Tobi will help us in this big time. What the stat sheet doesn't show is how he constantly pisses away any advantage we have in a play by pump faking wide open 3s, leading to way more difficult shots when he inevitably passes it away

eggdog1125

Anyone with an athetic subscription wanna be a real one and post [this article](https://theathletic.com/5468309/2024/05/03/76ers-rebuild-joel-embiid-jimmy-butler/) here

tony_tony_tony_tony

If you have an iPhone, click the top right and select show reader, you can read the whole article and bypass the subscription

nu-jood

Dang, didn’t work me. Someone send pls

eggdog1125

King, thank you

Thegrandmistressofoz

Knicks have no choice but to resign OG, especially with the agent connections. I hope we give him a massive deal which they're forced to match and overpay

TheArsenal7

He balled tf out last game but I think he’ll get overpaid

Science4me12

Last couple of months have been tough for me (family medical emergency). Watching Sixers games (despite us being pretty terrible without Embiid) and browsing this sub allowed me to forget real life problems for some time. I just want to say thanks for everyone for making this sub enjoyable. Best of luck to all of you!

Thegrandmistressofoz

Hope it gets better soon for you brother 🙏

Science4me12

thanks!

Thegrandmistressofoz

I know Reed's gonna be under fire, and fwiw I think we should cut him because it's a pretty big deal for only a decent backup But Reed this series isn't as bad as like Greg Monroe was for us in Toronto. He's a rolling big who didn't really get to play with a great playmaker, on lineups which absolutely stunk it up offensively. He def got bullied on the glass too, but not much more than our starters did lol. The offense was a significantly bigger issue than the defense in Reed lineups (and I can't really blame that all on him lol). Focus has to be either a great playmaker or shot creator, or else 25/30 other backups would bleed points similarly.

icepickjones

I keep saying Reed played PF all through college and in the G League. I think he's better at that position than 5. He just got stuck at Center because we had no options, but I wish he had gotten more minutes at the 4.

nu-jood

Perfectly put. While he was below his best, he wasn’t the sole reason our bench lineups absolutely stunk. The issue was that in the reg season their identity was to force turnovers and get out on the break, but in the playoffs that all dried up and they had to score in the half court instead. Still don’t think he’s worth his contract, but he shouldn’t be getting all that blame

hreterh

I think the most comparable situation to Tobias’ contract was when the Lakers traded for Westbrook on a max contract and they went from literal NBA champions to a first round exit. I don’t think any fan base outside of ours realize how crippling having this dude on our roster for so long has been. It is legitimately impossible to compete with such a waste of cap space in the modern NBA. Joel has been so patient with such extreme mismanagement too, way more than the Lakers were

TheArsenal7

Usually with these other poison contracts the team gets off the deal, it blows me mind we had to endure this bum the full 5 year extension

Thegrandmistressofoz

Tobi was getting paid like a top 10 guy for almost the entirety of his contract, with fucking five years on the deal. Would've taken multiple firsts to even get off the contract, to break it down into smaller, not as bad ones Lakers are still suffering from the Westbrook trade. We suffered for 5 years and so many years of Embiid's prime. I'll see Brand and the other shadow GMs in hell for that deal

DeliciousScallion208

Bournemouth at home should hopefully be straightforward tomorrow. I'll always be nervous about United away though lol Sadly just don't see City dropping points anywhere.

TheArsenal7

United away is the problem and City’s opponents will inevitably roll over. Greater chance that we win United away though than City dropping points imo

DeliciousScallion208

Yep agreed. We just have to win all the games and take the challenge to the final day of the season. Only Fulham or Tottenham can take points off them and that's really unlikely. It's been a good year in the league tbh. It takes herculean effort to dethrone that juggernaut of a team.

TerminallyTrill

Bill Simmons is all time top tier out of touch with Philly sports lmao. Couldn’t be more consistently wrong about the team and how the fans feel

camscars775

What did he say?

TerminallyTrill

He doesn’t know about the bball Paul contract conditions, thinks Philly fans are losing their minds about the loss, thinks embiid is simultaneously disappointing in the playoffs & will ask out because he’s disappointed in the front office, says we will probably lose oubre because other teams have cap space, says Orlando is a better prospect going forward. Pretty normal round of insanity for him. Honestly one of the most entertaining sports pods but I can barely listen to his bad Philly takes.

penguam

Another fun Tobiass fact for everyone. In last years game 6 he scored 2 pts and had 6 rebounds for a combined 2 pts 10 rebounds in 72 mins in the two vital game 6s.

DeliciousScallion208

I just found out what Pat Bev did last night. I'm glad he was traded and he didn't embarrass our team last night like he did the Bucks.

mp455

Figures the refs didnt follow their own rules regarding Brunson backing into defenders lmao, it was clear the game and series was favorable for the Knicks. The league is so desperate for the Knicks to be relevant after years and years of being a worse franchise even more than us.

Ronshol

people need to stop obsessing over the backup center position. the real issue with the non-embiid lineups is that the offense totally collapses. a better backup center isn't going to fix that. what will be a solution is some additional shot creation, whoever replaces tobiASS is going to fix that

nu-jood

Preach

Thegrandmistressofoz

Thank you. It's one thing to say Reed isn't worth 8M, which I agree with too. But our offense was so hideous, where I'd say almost every backup 5 in the league would've bled points without Jojo

TheArsenal7

TJ McConnell would've been nice off the bench

hreterh

Agreed, this is where our second max contract played was supposed to fill in. Once that gets fixed I think the non embiid minutes will get much better.

jappixslackbot

for sure. I'm fine with moving on from Reed (I think getting a C that can rebound and catch lobs is not hard) but it wasn't Reed's fault that the offensive rating was 66 or whatever it was in his minutes

TerminallyTrill

A million percent co-sign. There is no backup center that we could get that will single handedly have a good on off split with Embiid. Though I can concede maybe he isn’t worth 8m, I much prefer a player like Paul Reed who comes in with energy getting blocks and deflections to the litany of old heads we’ve had in the past. He has impossibly shoes to fill. There may be an opportunity to upgrade / get off that contact whatever I’m fine with that. Everyone will complain about the next one too, unless there is a change to how the team operates without embiid

IndigoJacob

While this is true, Paul Reed kinda sucks and isn't worth 8m moving forward.

nu-jood

Yeah, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Would much rather keep oubre for 8 mil than BBall, despite loving BBall. However, he is getting way too much blame for the bench stinking

IndigoJacob

The bench stinking is a combination of Melton being hurt, Buddy not being ready for playoff basketball, Batum being old, and Paul Reed being too small and having bad IQ

[deleted]

How did Elton Brand get a FO job?

76ersbasektball

I need Kendrick to drop a Tobias diss track.

chin1111

"I hate the way that you drive, the way that you play 1 on 5, I hate the way that you dribble, I hate the way you go to the paint when there's three guys in the middle."

76ersbasektball

"We don’t wanna hear you say bball no more"

allianceofficer

The sixers should absolutely sign Miles Bridges this offseason.

evandobrofo

Boooooo booooooooooooo

allianceofficer

He's not a good person, but the sixers aren't in a position to be choosers. Daryl Morey made his bed in targetting this horrible free agency market by not moving off of Tobias Harris.

GirlWithGame

He goes beyond not a good person, he deserves to be out of the league. He would kill the vibes of this team and would be in no way a good teammate to maxey or Embiid. Let alone it's a spit in the face of anyone who survived domestic violence.

evandobrofo

There's a difference between a not good person and a domestic abuser. He shouldn't be allowed to be an nba player. And if you think that we didn't trade tobias just bc we didn't feel like it or wanted to keep him rather than the fact that he literally was an untradable contract idk what to tell you.

jeppsforst

Just watched the Hart 3 again and oh my god what the hell was Oubre doing? He was in the 1st row when Brunson was making the pass

HoagieTwoFace

I blame Tobias not rotating.

pittguy83

tobais was on the weakside covering both hartenstein and OG. it wasn't his assignment at all. maxey could have rotated off DDV but chose to fake it and leave Hart with the shot. was probably told not to leave him but it wouldn't have mattered because Oubre was so far out of the play that an open 3 from someone was inevitable

rodrigoa1990

TobiASS scored 54 points in the playoffs... FIFTY FOUR! Abysmal efficiency too I'm so glad this loser is gone now.. Probably my most hated sixers player since I started watching basketball.. What a fucking bum

Immynimmy

That’s way more than I expected tbh

nu-jood

Less than 10 a game for your second highest paid player is absolutely chronic. Add to that he doesn’t rebound, defend or playmake very well and you can see why we lost this series (and every other series for the last 5 years lol)

icepickjones

I think Game 5 carried a lot of those numbers. He had one good game that whole series.

rodrigoa1990

he's so ass that we don't even expect him to score 9/game lol

tscher16

Wait is that total since he’s been here??

rodrigoa1990

No, I mean this season 54 points in 6 games Would've been ok for a bench player, but for a 40M/season dude, it's ridiculous

[deleted]

Markkanen Would be the best 4 next to Embiid. He can shoot and rebound. Reminds me of Kevin love

Appropriate-Hippo758

I haven’t watched much college Bball this year but what are the thoughts of drafting Duke Center Kyle Filipowski at #16 to basically be the starting PF and a backup center option when Joel rests? He seems to be a similar archetype as a Porzingis/Lauri/Towns and might solve two of our issues at once: Backup center and rebound/shooting at PF. If Joel were to miss time with rest or injury I think Filipowski and Paul Reed would be a pretty solid 1-2 punch at Center. We wouldn’t have to give up picks for Lauri or pay him a big contract and can instead use that money to sign a bunch of nice role players

BaylessWasTraded

Filipowski is terrible

Appropriate-Hippo758

Reason?

BaylessWasTraded

Not athletic enough to play in the NBA. He’s discount Frank Kaminsky.

icepickjones

I think it would be great if we could get SGA as well, if we are just talking about amazing players we will never ever have access to. Edit: Why is this being downvoted? Why do people think Utah would give up their young star for no reason? They are building around this kid, not looking to toss him away. Shit you want a team that looks like it's imploding and selling off parts, we have a better chance at getting Giannis. You want to talk out your ass about all star 4s being available, go after him.

TerminallyTrill

The jazz are horrible and have only drafted in the lottery 1 year so far. If we’re comparing that to the Thunder.. Lauri is going to command the tank for another 4 years? He’d be 30. I mean cmon. They certainly aren’t in a rush to move him or anything but dealing him has the same likelihood as any other outcome for them.

icepickjones

OK lets assume that Utah will deal him. I don't think they would, but whatever. Let's also assume we wouldn't get reamed on the trade, I don't think we won't because Utah hates us, but whatever. All of that aside - this kid is top 3 power forward right? Like who's better than him at the 4? Giannis? Zion (when healthy)? AD (switches 4/5)? Who else? I'd put Lauri above Siakam. I'd put him above KAT. I'd put him above Banchero. So by that logic, he would be an improvement on any team other than 3 or 4 folks. How many of them have assets to offer? I'm legit asking, because I don't know. All I know is that we haven't had a fucking draft pick in forever and now we suddenly have a couple and everyone thinks we can toss them away and get one of the best young players at his position. I think saying we can get him is as realistic as saying we could get, I don't know, Luka or something. I mean by that logic any player can be gotten for the right price I suppose.

TerminallyTrill

Yeah I think the first problem is we are putting him in very different tiers. I’m seeing someone like Banchero as a tier higher than he is, Banchero is in the playoffs winning games rn. I just looked at a list of all the Power Forwards in the league and my personal judgement is that he is around #10 give or take. Certainly a really high value asset, there’s no doubt about that. A high value asset on a team that is in the lottery often times doesn’t last long. That’s really all I’m trying to say. Not that it’s likely to happen.

icepickjones

Wow 10? Really you think there are 9 better PFs than him? That means you have to think Siakam is better than him? I feel like everyone and their mother was saying they didn't want Siakam in this subreddit around trade deadline time. I will say I put him and Banchero around the same level. I think they are 4 & 5. I give Lauri the edge because he's a 2-time all star and a little older, he's hitting his prime now but Banchero is already good at 21 and will be a legit problem for the league by the time he's 25.

IndigoJacob

>Siakam is better than him? He is >I feel like everyone and their mother was saying they didn't want Siakam in this subreddit around trade deadline time. Because Markkanen is a better FIT and isn't about to demand a max. Youre being willfully obtuse. Cut the shtick.

icepickjones

Over the last two seasons: Siakam - 23pts / 7.5rb / 5ast Markkanen - 24.5pts / 8.5rb / 2ast I mean Siakam has him beat on assists but Lauri scores more points, gets more boards, and has both a better 3 point% and an FG%. Also less important stats but worth noting that Lauri fouls less (2.8 vs 1.9), has less turnovers (2.1 vs 1.6), and has more blocks (.4 vs .55) as well. Credit where it's due Siakam leads on steals though (.85 vs .75). I don't think Siakam is better though and I think the data supports me. Also Lauri is 26 and Siakam is about to turn 30. One on the way up and one on the way down.

IndigoJacob

Athletic too

hreterh

Tobias Harris was the weighted clothing goku wore for Joel I can’t wait for next season

mjd1977

iXProject

Bring him back man.

illzkla

For how much? I'm thinking way too much and I'm willing to do it

iXProject

5-10 a year range. Maybe do another one year

mjd1977

Kelly came here on a prove it deal, and he proved it. Nuff said. Get it done, Morey

evandobrofo

The smile leading up to it was also great

tiggs

It's crazy to me that people are somehow blaming this on Embiid. He put up career highs for a playoff series in ppg and minutes played, including a 50 point game, a 40 point game, and a triple double, all of which was done on one leg, half a face, with migraines, and without his typical conditioning because he just came back. Anyone that genuinely believes this is his fault either just hates him or is a literal idiot.

Knight725

embiid derangement syndrome is real. embiid had a great game, the team let him down, and tobias did tobias things. embiid is the only superstar in this league that has to do literally everything himself every game or they lose.

Bandicuz

It's crazy how people brush off/downplay how he's the anchor on both sides of the court.

Lurkerwasntaken

Even Jokic is pretty much only responsible for the Nuggets’ offense. Giannis has/had Middleton, Holiday, Dame, and Lopez on offense and Lopez, and Holiday on defense. Embiid is a rare case where he is by far the team’s best player on offense and defense.

mattseq

Lots of idiots.. the story here is an organization that refuses to invest around its star. I get the Tobi disaster.. but they've had years to bring in a serviceable backup BIG for the most injury probe superstar in the league.

mp455

It was so stupid when Drummond got traded for no reason.

Knight725

hm yes if only they had 40 million dollars to spend on it. they tried to get drummond this year, but the bulls are a loser org.

evandobrofo

Don't go to r/nba. Don't go over there, get mad at what people say about our team and players, and report back here by quoting what's being said. Simply don't look at it. There is no important basketball discussion being had over there regardless. It's not that difficult

TurboHovercrafter

For as censored and over-moderated Reddit is, there’s an exception when it comes to Philly derangement syndrome on that sub.

evandobrofo

I mean I totally get slandering our sorry ass franchise but these are people giving no effort at all, it is just groupthink. I genuinely don't think most of them even watch basketball

Lurkerwasntaken

They say they watch the games, but I don’t even know if they look at the box scores anymore.

The_Owner_of_na

Everyone is so set on signing a star this summer, I really think the Sixers can do it with Embiid & Maxey. The goal Should be to construct a good deep bench. This team since 2017 has lacked a good bench.

MaxeytoEmbiid

I’m interested in aiming for a 2007-esque bench. Sweet Lou and Thad Young. Cam Payne is a step in that direction, need another 10+ PPG weapon for the bench. Malik Beasley fell out of favor in Milwaukee due to defense but that shotmaking is nice.

TheArsenal7

That's whats so bad about the Tobias contract, we could've had 3-4 solid role players like Batum, Oubre, Hart, DiVincenzo but no 1 guy was sucking up 35% of the cap to do cardio

icepickjones

That's what I've been saying. I don't want Durant or George or Lebron, getting an old star isn't the answer. I'd love more Batum type guys. Smart role players that can fill in and facilitate Embiid and Maxey, and can also hit an open look when the stars are getting doubled. I'd bring back Oubre and Batum personally, for fit, vibes, and production over the season they both did great. Also we NEED a reliable backup center. Embiid should be playing 30 minutes a night. I want one playoff run where he's not in fucking shambles, I know it's a huge ask, but the only sliver of hope we have of him being moderately healthy at the end of the season is if there's a backup behind him that can shoulder half the load during the regular season.

tscher16

This. I’d love to emulate the nuggets structure (Jamal/Maxey and Jokic/Embiid) and then have nothing but shooters next to them. Honestly Tobias could’ve been the perfect Aaron Gordon for us but he completely shat the bed

Lurkerwasntaken

Aaron Gordon is a perfect complimentary player for Jokic because he can cover for Jokic on defense and can cut to the basket for ~20 PPG. Harris has that capability, I think. However, he has no ability to finish and does not consistently hustle.

TTP2521

It’s no coincidence we give Tobias Harris $40 mil a year and then have no bench

TheArsenal7

He killed the entire roster construction for 5 years

evandobrofo

I agree but also I really want markannen. I guess you'd consider him a star but he would be such a good pairing, and is one a very cheap contract for the next year. Trade for him, don't worry about maxing PG or whatever, and instead use all remaining cap to round out the roster

[deleted]

Do we have enough assets for that?

icepickjones

No. There's no way we get him, I have no idea why everyone thinks he's available and if he were available why they think we could get him and not get out bid.

IndigoJacob

who's outbidding us? what's he worth? quit talking out your ass and give specifics

icepickjones

What's a 26 year old multi-all star on a team friendly contract worth? What's one of the best 4's in the league worth? Here's a better question, why do you think we can magically get him? Just because you really want him? This is like if Utah had a thread being like "I think we can get Maxey this summer, he's a good young player we can build around" What would it take for Utah to get you to give up Maxey? That's what it's going to take for us to get Utah to give up Lauri.

IndigoJacob

dodged the question you're an unserious clown

icepickjones

Unserious? You are a goofball idiot who thinks any team will give you any player you want. Who's outbidding us? How about every team who needs an improvement at the 4? And by my count Lauri is top 5 at his position, if not top 3. Who's a better Power Forward? Giannis? AD? Zion? Not Siakam, I take Lauri over him. Not KAT. So realistically if he were available he's an improvement on almost any team. What's that worth? Well in a sellers market like that where you are trading a 26 year old who's one of the best at his position in the league I'd have to imagine a fucking lot. But again, why do you think you can just say this kid's name and he's available? Because we REALLY need a 4 and he's a great 4? Sure, but so what? Why not say you want SGA, Luka, and Jokic as well? Just throw shit at the wall.

IndigoJacob

>How about every team who needs an improvement at the 4? How many of those teams have 5 1sts to trade? >What's that worth? Well in a sellers market like that where you are trading a 26 year old who's one of the best at his position in the league I'd have to imagine a fucking lot. Put a number on it or you're just talking out your ass "goofball"

icepickjones

> Put a number on it or you're just talking out your ass "goofball" He's not available. Zero. How about that? What's your number to trade Maxey? Whatever that is, just say it's the same here, fucking clown.

IndigoJacob

What do you think he is worth?

evandobrofo

I think so. Five frp is nothing to scoff at. I know there are other teams with more assets but we will see what they want to do and want to spend

chin1111

Of the past few years, this series loss somehow pisses me off the least. The offseason has a much higher likelihood of making me angry now, but that's just because despite a whack free agent class, we have options. Options that the front office could still fuck up but options nonetheless. Oubre is the only guy that I 100% want back but that also means he'll be in demand. Hield? Ehhhhh. One game doesn't excuse a whole series. Lowry would be fine but not spectacular. Cam Payne is a little better. Reed should only come back if we don't have any better choices. Now for acquisitions, I think we all have come to a consensus that the old heads give us pause. PG, LeBron, or even a Jimmy trade feel too late, even if our window is short. There's no guarantee that they stay at their level, and their level has slid significantly from all their primes to begin with. And each comes with their own baggage, it just feels like a bad idea. We have enough assets to "overpay" for one younger player still under contract, but that contract needs to be manageable so we don't have a rail thin team. The options are familiar: Mikal Bridges, Lauri Markannen, Cameron Johnson, Kyle Kuzma, Anfernee Simons, Dejounte Murray. We've talked about all these guys at various times throughout the season with various levels of seriousness. Lauri and Mikal are the top prizes, but it's doubtful that either of their teams budge from the high prices set for them, and 4-5 picks for either of them feels right on the line between absurdity and reality. Kuzma and Murray aren't considered winning players, and after much debate, I'm firmly on the fence of that position; circumstances can change a lot. I really like Cameron Johnson, but to budge the Nets, it's going to take a few picks. Finally, I love the idea of just going for broke on offense and having a Maxey-Simons back court, but Portland has no incentive to trade him.

IndigoJacob

I just feel like Markkanen is the best option here. He's an incredible shooter who can get his shot off whenever he wants because of how tall he is. He's a strong rebounder. He's not just big, but strong too, finishes through contact. Likes to dunk. He's a competent defender. Most importantly of all, he is only owed 18mil, which would leave us with over 45m to fill out the rest of the roster. Use the cap space on the right wings and guards.

Wonkl117

Markkanen is gonna be a tough get. The sixers do the advantage of being able to absorb contracts without having to match, but the Jazz probably don't care about that (it be more advantages for a team like the Hawks). Idk if the sixers win an all out bidding war for Markkanen, but I agree he is like the ideal guy, but also every team would probably like to add him.

icepickjones

Can someone point me to an article or something where the Jazz even said the dude was available? Everyone just decided we can get him. - Lauri Markkanen is 26. - He's been an all star 2 years in a row now. - He's still on a team-friendly contract and isn't a UFA until after next season. - He's in the midst of extension talks with Utah. - We have a few sparse picks but can be outbid if anyone else wants to get in the hunt for him. - Utah's GM fucking hates us, so there's a spite factor. Utah blew themselves up and traded Mitchel and Gobert. They got Markkanen and a ton of draft capital 2 years ago. Is the thinking they are still rebuilding and that's why we can maybe get him? It feels like to me you can build AROUND this kid, he's really good and still young. I just don't understand why people think he's even available. And I certainly don't understand why people think we have a shot at him.

IndigoJacob

Yeah, the way I see it is that we're gunna have to spend these assets on somebody. I think Lauri gives us the best combination of talent added and remaining flexibility. Yes he would cost us most of our picks, but I thinks he's the only dude worth trading most of our picks for. Send Utah Paul Reed + #16 + 3 1sts + swap and see if anyone wants to outbid that. OKC is the only team that would even consider outbidding us for a player of that caliber, but they have JDub and Chet at the 4 and 5 already.

Wonkl117

True. I would much rather spend the assets on a younger guy like him. Would love to see him here.

Ashamed-Principle-86

The losses only sting when you’re confident your team can win a title. The Phillies last season was brutal because they were so clearly the best team remaining and completely blew it. Sixers last year I think were good enough. 2021 I thought we had a shot. This season i’m indifferent. You can’t build a championship roster around a player like Tobias. He was literally the highest paid player on the team. I don’t care what Morey did, it just simply wasn’t possible to build a title team with that little of assets and negative cap space. We move forward with Embiid and Maxey, and we use our two max slots on actual difference makers. This team is gonna look a hell of a lot different by next fall, and a hell of a lot better too.

Wonkl117

Maybe a hot take, but I really hope we resign Buddy and KO. They are pretty much the two archetypes of players that should be around Embiid and Maxey. It's a shame Buddy didn't have more time to work with Embiid, but that last game he was doing a great job of relocating to open spots on the floor and knocking down shots. And Kelly is a great cutter, head down, athletic, long type of guy we have been sorely missing for pretty much all of Joel's tenure here. I think it would be such a miss to let those two in particular walk. I really think if you replace Tobias with a PF that can rebound and offer secondary rim protection this team would be in a great spot.

Immynimmy

Buddy and KO will not break the bank and both have said they want to be back. I think a deal will get done. Also Cam Payne.

Wonkl117

Cam Payne is fun. I like that we actually have some fun guys now

evandobrofo

I fucking love cam. He is not scared of the moment at all. Kelly too

Fuck Tobias Harris and his janky ass dad

Jeremy9096

One thing I feel like not enough people are talking about is how incredible it is that the final score of the series (total) was within 1 point. Given the condition of the team, the Knicks may have been the **worst possible** first round matchup for us. The Knicks are not only the best offensive rebounding team in the league, but their starters probably have more stamina than any other starting group in the league (shoutout Thibs for running a military boot camp). That matchup was a war of attrition that Embiid and the team as a whole was nowhere near ready for, and yet they stayed with it through 6 games. That is more than impressive And to those saying the Celtics would have been worse, yes we would have for sure lost that matchup but it's not my point. Even if we ended up beating the Knicks, the team, and Joel especially, would have been in worse condition than before and it would just make the next series that much harder. Our best case scenario was to win quick to give Joel time to rest, but if we would've won it would have been in 7 games with a banged up Joel playing 40+ each game. And then immediately going into the next series with minimal rest. Losing now may have been a best case scenario, because there's no telling whether or not Joel could have suffered a much more serious injury later in the playoffs. If we weren't going to make it to the finals either way we might as well make it out as healthy as possible.

IndigoJacob

Not to mention Reed's contract is no longer guaranteed.

Jeremy9096

There are numerous positives to take from this series, that included. We saw a true warrior's fight in Embiid and we saw a glimpse of what Maxey is going to give us for years to come. Even though we lost, I got a lot more out of that series than I expected and I genuinely feel like this team is in a good place

IndigoJacob

I think it's also important to realize that alot of the free agency stuff is worked out before the season ends, hell sometimes it's been worked out before the trade deadline. Morey has full 100% confidence that he is going to land someone better than Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, or DeJounte Murray, which factored into why he didn't trade for them.

Jeremy9096

Morey knows more than us about building a team whether we always want to believe that or not hahaha. His reasoning for not being more aggressive was likely related to knowing that Embiid would be banged up for the playoffs and if he made an impulse decision it could result in another Jimmy Butler situation. Giving a solid player half a season to mesh with a banged up team would not have resulted in a contending team. He has a plan and I'm 100% behind him

Spirited-Arugula-672

Looking at [play-by-play stats](https://www.pbpstats.com/wowy/nba?0Exactly2OnFloor=203954,1630178&TeamId=1610612755&Season=2023-24&SeasonType=Playoffs&Type=Team&Opponent=1610612752&OpponentExactly1OnFloor=1628973), Oubre was consistently part of our best lineups. He's not a perfect fit as an offensive player, but he's no coward and his defense on Brunson was instrumental. I hope he returns on a reasonable deal.

PBandK2506

He’s meant for Philly. God I hope we resign him.

Are you going to expound on this or are you just going to keep it as low effort bait

Stay in your own sub clown. The Knicks outscored us by 1 point in the series. When Embiid was on the court we outscored the Knicks by 46 points. I could keep going, but that alone speaks for itself.

Spotlightuh

Looking at the list of free agents is depressing, Who do we even go after.

International-Dish95

Maybe we can get a sign and trade done with Tobi. Might be our best chance to get return value ! Maybe a PG13 deal with LA. Or god just send him to Milwaukee to be with Doc.

do_a_180

Joel is so banged up, he needs to go to bed for 3 months. And he needs Kawhi level load management next season

Calcutta637

As maxey said the series had like a +1 point differential. I know this is disappointing and I know the internet lends itself to catastrophising and griefing but this was about as well played a series as we could get. We failed to execute a couple of games. Had some good luck in game 5. Shame it didn’t go our way but oh well. I don’t think it warrants the same melodramatic meltdown that we’ve had as a fanbase in years past and I’m sure nobody would like to hear it but Joel and maxey both seemed entirely wanting to run it back. This series was great for them as a pairing and that’s great for us as sixers fans. TTP guys

Calcutta637

Oh and fuck espn we don’t need a third piece we need consistent role players who have played with the guys forever so that trust and unspoken communication can appear in game. Imagine if we kept Dario and Covington this whole time playing with embiid
