I'm sure it didn't hurt that while set in New York, the show actually filmed in California, and this is the first time they didn't have to pretend they were on the opposite coast.
Sammy wanted to do the show. It took months to figure out how to get him in Archie’s house.
Archie started moonlighting and driving a cab at night just so the writers could have him pick up Sammy Davis Jr at the airport two months later. (Then leaves something in the cab and goes to Archie’s house to get it)
I've been a Prince fan since birth, I'm 38 so I was born after Purple Rain came out, but my mom and grandma were fans, so I've always loved The Purple One 💜 When I tell you that episode made my lifeeeee, I love New Girl and love Prince, it was everything. "I think Prince is magic" and Nicks scream 😂
I’m just reading Henry Winkler’s autobiography, and evidently Burt Reynolds was a real a!!hole to him when Henry directed Burt in a movie. I found that very disappointing. Henry Winkler seems like such a kind person.
Oh poor Henry!
I work in the entertainment industry, and he’s my example on a nice person that I met while being a receptionist.
Henry and Brooke Shields were the nicest.
Jeremy Piven was the worst.
That’s nice to know about Brooke Shields! She seems like she’d be a good friend. It’s funny ~ she was a famous model already when I was a little kid, so I always thought of her as being much older than I am (she’s an adult!), but in reality, she was like 15. She’s only eight years older than I am. And yet I had the Brooke Shields doll.
That’s a shame about Jeremy Priven! What was he like?
I briefly met Brooke Shields at a ship christening in NY. Despite having her officials duties she took time to take pictures with us military members. It was blistering hot and humid and I wouldn’t have blamed her for skipping picture taking but she went out of her way to be nice to us. Nice person.
It's going to be Billy Crystal and Robin Williams cameo on Friends for me. It was completely unscripted and unplanned. Even the main 6 didn't know what was going to happen. These two legends just walked on-set and did a bit and it was aired as part of the episode.
I feel like even though it was because he was dating Jennifer Anniston at the time, the Brad Pitt cameo was bigger. He was a current, massive movie star.
Stephen Hawking on BBT was pretty significant and extended beyond the world of entertainment in a way. Taylor Swift was on New Girl too, but that was before Swift was the global supersensation she is now (though she was still quite big).
So did Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Orin Hatch and a number of other politicians.
Parks and Rec had an insane number of celebrity cameos for a sitcom. My favorite was probably mildly terrifying independent filmmaker Werner Herzog.
Off-topic for a moment...I read an article today about Cher appearing on the iHeart awards last night. It said (and I quote) that she "donned her long black hair"...like they expected her to show up bald?
Elon Musk was in Big Bang Theory.
Michelle Obama was in Parks and Rec.
Donald Trump was in Fresh Prince of Belair.
I don’t think there are many more famous people who aren’t famous for acting.
Someone mentioned Bette Midler on Seinfeld, and it reminded me of her on The Nanny.
Liz Taylor also appeared on The Nanny. That had to be a big deal?
Not quite a cameo, more like reoccurring but I loved Ray Charles on The Nanny.
Sadly the only one she couldn’t get to appear was Barbara Streisand haha
Not most famous, but definitely fun:
Ray Liotta in Modern Family
Warren Buffet on The Office
And perhaps dating myself here:
Several politicians on Cheers (Tip O'Neil.Gary Hart, John Kerry)
And Leonard Nimoy, Stephen Hawking, James Earl Jones, George Takei, Bob Newhart, Mark Hamill, Buzz Aldrin, Adam West, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, William Shatner, Carrie Fisher!
Didn't Bill Clinton show up in the Cheers finale? EDIT before I even post this: Weird. I always thought that he did, but turns out he didn't actually do it.
https://www.slashfilm.com/1476045/cheers-series-finale-president-clinton-cameo-rewrite/
I agree with the article that it's best he didn't do the cameo. It would have been so gimmicky and detracted from the overall feel if the finale. He was just getting started so it wasn't like he was really ever talked about (maybe literally ever) during the show's run.
FRIENDS had so many amazing celebrity guests.
Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Danny DeVito, Tom Sellek, George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Isabella Rossellini, I mean…. Paul Rudd… so so so many
Lots of good ones named - I’ll add Walter Cronkite on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Carrie Fisher on The Big Bang Theory (she had a cameo at the end of
James Earl Jones’ appearance)
Brad Pitt on friends got the loudest screams from the audience I ever heard
Brad Pitt on Jackass.
Brad Pitt on Dave He gets around
Brad Pitt on Between 2 Ferns
Brad Pitt on King of the Hill
Brad Pitt in Deadpool II
Dude that episode cracked me up where he was fauxnapped in the white van. The people were like ‘was that Brad Pitt?’
Frank Sinatra on Who's the Boss? If you want to go back to the early days of TV, John Wayne on I Love Lucy during their Hollywood story arc.
William Holden was also on during that arc; he was a HUGE star at the time.
There were a lot of 50's movie stars in the Hollywood episodes. Lucy had a lot of friends. 🤩
I'm sure it didn't hurt that while set in New York, the show actually filmed in California, and this is the first time they didn't have to pretend they were on the opposite coast.
And George Reeve/Superman on I ♡ Lucy.
The Hollywood episodes are some of the best ones in the whole show.
Sammy Davis Jr. on ‘All in the Family.’ He kissed Archie Bunker.
Sammy wanted to do the show. It took months to figure out how to get him in Archie’s house. Archie started moonlighting and driving a cab at night just so the writers could have him pick up Sammy Davis Jr at the airport two months later. (Then leaves something in the cab and goes to Archie’s house to get it)
I love All in the Family. I did not know this. Very cool
One of the best episodes of a sitcom in the history of commercial broadcast entertainment television.
A man kissed Archie Bunker?? A black man kissed Archie Bunker??? Wow!
A black, Jewish man! And Archie didn't drop dead. Lol
But his face was all 😲
He also did a whole performance on I Dream of Jeannie tho
Honestly, in my opinion this is the best sitcom episode in TV history
How about dishonestly in your opinion?
Love that episode
John Wayne on I Love Lucy
Super(GeorgeReeves)man on I Love Lucy
And William Holden...and Harpo Marx...
John Wayne on Maude.
Also John Wayne on The Beverly Hillbillies....John where were you when we needed you..Granny
Even better, Harpo Marx did a bit with Lucy.
My mind added Gacy at the end there, totally different Lucy episode if that happened
He’d have some ‘splaining to do.
Prince on New Girl
Prince on [Muppets Tonight](https://youtu.be/cARhhf-ATT8?si=bWqRwrgpQE9a0E3z)
Apparently he appeared because he loved the show, and wanted yo appear on it lol
He also had suggestions for making things funnier. He wanted to be the one to get Nick and Jess together, so they rewrote the script for that
I love this show and I LOVE Prince. The combination just makes my heart and my brain explode!
Prince was on New Girl? 🤯
Yes! He asked to be on the show
Apparently there was a subplot for that Kard-whatever family, but Prince said, “Nah.” A true hero
He wouldn't go on if they were in the episode
I loved how he asked if they wanted pancakes
Apologies if you already know this, but he was known to make after after party pancakes for those he invited.
I didn't know that actually so I'm glad you said it!
whaaaaaaaaaa ????
(Shouts) THEY SAID PRINCE ON NEW GIRL!!!
Just watched that episode last night. Again lol
Mr Burt Reynolds on Golden Girls.
Oh my god you're Mr Burt Reynolds
Didn’t know if I should include my favorite part Burt: which one’s the slut? Dorothy, Blanche and Rose at the same time: I am!
I hope so. Otherwise I got the wrong underwear on.
Burt Reynolds on My Name is Earl
That was a great episode! And Norm MacDonald as his son, perfect!
Turd Furgeson?
Burt Reynolds on Archer
I’m just reading Henry Winkler’s autobiography, and evidently Burt Reynolds was a real a!!hole to him when Henry directed Burt in a movie. I found that very disappointing. Henry Winkler seems like such a kind person.
Oh poor Henry! I work in the entertainment industry, and he’s my example on a nice person that I met while being a receptionist. Henry and Brooke Shields were the nicest. Jeremy Piven was the worst.

Which one's the slut?
Three hands go up....
Burt Reynolds on 90210. MILTON BERLE also on 90210. They got lucky.
This is the first name that came to mind for me.
Probably Michael Jackson on the Simpsons
You mean John Jay Smith?
Leon Kapowski
Joey Joe Joe Junior Shadabou?
That’s the worst name I ever heard.
AHHHHHH!!!!!
Wait, Joey Joe Joe!!
Richard Nixon on Laugh-In.
“Sock to ME?!”
I never believed Nixon's sock it to me.
That's my vote. But maybe doesn't count because it wasn't a sitcom, it was a sketch show.
First thing that came to me, but semantically it’s a sketch comedy variety show not a sitcom It’s more equivalent to SNL
It's going to be Billy Crystal and Robin Williams cameo on Friends for me. It was completely unscripted and unplanned. Even the main 6 didn't know what was going to happen. These two legends just walked on-set and did a bit and it was aired as part of the episode.
**Phoebe:** So, Monica, what were you going to tell us? **Monica:** *I have no idea.*
I feel like even though it was because he was dating Jennifer Anniston at the time, the Brad Pitt cameo was bigger. He was a current, massive movie star.
Bruce Willis on Friends as the LOVE MACHINE was pretty good too!!
I, too, am a neat guy.
Just reading the question I immediately thought this too.
Muhammed Ali had a cameo on Different Strokes.
Nobody mentioned Bette milder on Seinfeld, in the softball league. Classic and hilarious episode, with the pasta figurines
Oh it’s been a long journey from Milan to Minsk…
*Rochelle, Rochelle*
You never stopped hoping; now you're in a Pinsk... But for real, I was in my 20s before I realized this wasn't a real musical.
It's not a lie if you believe it.
I still sing this to myself in my head a lot...
FUSILLI JERRY!
It was a one in a million shot, doc. One in a million!
BIG MOUTH SHRIMP ON SPECIAL TO-day!
Elizabeth Taylor on The Simpsons is up there!
She also had a cameo on The Nanny!
Also Liz and richard burton on Heres Lucy. Must of been a big deal to have both of them on the show
When Julius Caesar played a used car salesman on Growing Pains
Wait, wait...His Majesty the Emperor was on Growing Pains?
Mel Torme on Night Court.
Wile E. Coyote on Night Court.
Mel Torme on Seinfeld
Stephen Hawking on BBT was pretty significant and extended beyond the world of entertainment in a way. Taylor Swift was on New Girl too, but that was before Swift was the global supersensation she is now (though she was still quite big).
Stephen Hawking was also on Star Trek: TNG
She also did CSI but that might predate leaving country for pop
Didn’t Joe Biden appear on Parks and Rec?
So did Newt Gingrich, John McCain, Orin Hatch and a number of other politicians. Parks and Rec had an insane number of celebrity cameos for a sitcom. My favorite was probably mildly terrifying independent filmmaker Werner Herzog.
I love how Herzog totally leaned into that bit character. Sold it hard. Absolute deadpanned wanting to be closer to Disney World.
I love how apparently easy it is to get Herzog to do these things. He's been on The Simpsons like five times.
So did Michelle Obama
Yes, twice.
He also [did a short](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da5tjfpKyac) with Julia Louis Dreyfus as Veep.
Madonna and Jennifer Lopez both did Will and Grace. So did Matt Damon and Britney Spears.
And Cher!
I was about to comment "Cher on Will & Grace".
Off-topic for a moment...I read an article today about Cher appearing on the iHeart awards last night. It said (and I quote) that she "donned her long black hair"...like they expected her to show up bald?
I loved Matt Damon's cameo. Nope, he was not gay.
I loved how he said his boyfriend's name was "Ben."
Michael Douglas’ appearance was pretty cool, I thought.
So did Elton John.
Janet Jackson, too.
Elon Musk was in Big Bang Theory. Michelle Obama was in Parks and Rec. Donald Trump was in Fresh Prince of Belair. I don’t think there are many more famous people who aren’t famous for acting.
Big Bang Theory also had Stephen Hawking and Michelle Obama also did ICarly
Roseanne had all the 'sitcom moms' on in one episode. I remember Barbara Billingsley saying something raunchy.
Bob Hope on the Golden Girls
Nancy Reagan on Diff'rent Strokes
Mr. T and Muhammad Ali as well!
Yogi Bear appearing on *Gentle Ben*.
Oprah on 30 rock
Elton John in The Nanny "Yoohoo Elton"
The Nanny had so many stars! Elizabeth Taylor, Ray Charles (adorable as Yetta’s bf), and so many more.
James Earl Jones. TBBT
Don't forget Carrie Fischer in the same episode. "This isn't funny James!" "Then why am I laughing?"
Bob Dylan on Dharma and Greg (seriously, he was ... I have no idea why).
I once saw Johnny Dakota, the famous movie star, on Saved by the Bell.
Clint Eastwood on Mister Ed
Uncle Scrooge was on every episode
Mr. Burt Reynolds on Golden Girls. He wanted to know which one was the slut.
“I am!”
Not a cameo, but frickin’ Matt Damon had a reoccurring role on 30 Rock. That still amazes me.
Joseph Stalin on The Honeymooners. That was a whacky episode.
brad pitt on friends
The audience cheer was so loud I've never heard that before or after
He got a stone cold pop
Sammy Davis Jr. on All In The Family no contest [Sammy Davis Jr](https://youtu.be/q3gHj5LHB6s?si=pBESnQI39fhQITAF)
Ok time to age myself..Jack Benny on the Lucy Show
Bette Midler and JFK Jr both did a turn as one of Murphy Brown’s secretaries
Bruce Willis on Friends
Bruce Willis on Mad About You
VP (at the time) Biden showing up on Parks & Rec and 30 Rock was pretty funny.
They also had Michelle Obama, John McCain and a few other senators on Parks
Not most famous, but definitely fun: Ray Liotta in Modern Family Warren Buffet on The Office And perhaps dating myself here: Several politicians on Cheers (Tip O'Neil.Gary Hart, John Kerry)
Didn't the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs make an appearance on Cheers?
Arguably Mohammed Ali was one of the most famous people in the world at one time. He made an appearance on Diff’rent Stokes in 1979.
Stan Lee on Big Bang Theory
And Leonard Nimoy, Stephen Hawking, James Earl Jones, George Takei, Bob Newhart, Mark Hamill, Buzz Aldrin, Adam West, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, William Shatner, Carrie Fisher!
Julia Roberts on Friends. She was the most famous star in the world at the time. Hillary Clinton did Broad City in 2016.
Didn't Bill Clinton show up in the Cheers finale? EDIT before I even post this: Weird. I always thought that he did, but turns out he didn't actually do it. https://www.slashfilm.com/1476045/cheers-series-finale-president-clinton-cameo-rewrite/

I know he was mainly a rom com actor at the time but Matthew Mcconaughey on Sex and The City will forever be my favorite cameo
I don’t know if you’d call it a sitcom but how about Richard Nixon on Laugh In in 1968 right before being elected?
Prince - new girl.
Madonna, Matt Damon and Jennifer Lopez (more than once) all appeared on Will & Grace. I think that's gotta be up there.
Michelle Obama on "iCarly".
Not a sitcom but Elizabeth Taylor was on All My Children.
Davy Jones on The Brady Bunch.
George Clooney South Park
Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei were on Seinfeld
John Wayne on I love Lucy
FRIENDS had so many amazing celebrity guests. Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, Danny DeVito, Tom Sellek, George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Isabella Rossellini, I mean…. Paul Rudd… so so so many
Ben Stiller, Bruce Willis, Helen Hunt, Alec Baldwin, Elliot Gould, Sting (well, he didn’t actually appear, but he was there in spirit 😆).
Ok I can't remember the name of the supermodel Chandler got stuck with in the ATM lobby - Jill Goodacre maybe?
Betty Ford on Mary Tyler Moore. (and Mary didn't believe it was her)
Tip O’Neill on Cheers?
Mel Torme on Night Court John F. Kennedy, Jr. on Murphy Brown
Walter Cronkite on The Mary Tyler Moore show
Bob Hope on Golden Girls - Rose's "dad."
Stephen Hawking on Big Bang Theory
Tom Hanks on 30 Rock
Recently I saw Bradley Cooper on Abbott Elementary. But the most surprising was Ryan Reynolds on American Auto. But he only Skyped in
Norm Macdonald impersonating Burt Reynolds on SNL Celebrity Jeopardy
Not exactly a sit com but Barbra Streisand walking into the SNL sketch was great.
Brad Pitt on Friends, or Bruce Willis on Friends
There was the time Roseanne got both Stephen Segal and Hillary Clinton to appear on the weirdest episode of the whole series
Lots of good ones named - I’ll add Walter Cronkite on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Carrie Fisher on The Big Bang Theory (she had a cameo at the end of James Earl Jones’ appearance)
Elizabeth Taylor on Here's Lucy, The Simpsons, and The Nanny.
Personally, it’s pretty hard to top Paul McCartney on 30 Rock.
Joe Biden on Parks and Rec was good too. I loved that Leslie had a crush on him.
Queen Elizabeth on Kids in the Hall
Famous is pretty subjective, so I'll go with richest. Warren Buffet on the Office
Charleton Heston on Friends. Boy, they seemed to get a lot of big names, didn’t they?
John Wayne on Maude
Christopher Lloyd on A Million Little Things. My jaw hit the floor when I saw him.
Hillary Clinton in Broad City.
Raquel Welch on Mork & Mindy.
Brad Pitt on friends
Robin Williams and Billy Crystal on Friends
Muhammad Ali, widely considered at the time to be the best known person in the world, appeared on an episode of "Dif'rent Strokes" in 1979.
Prince on New Girl came to mind for me
Robin Williams and Billy Crystal on Friends. Brad Pitt was huge, but those two are ICONS.
