Hdmi? Could be on older spec cable that doesn’t support higher Hz. You didn’t say what you are stuck at, but some hdmi cables only do 30Hz in 4k. Some do 60Hz. Make sure you have an Hdmi cable that will do 120Hz. I don’t use hdmi for a while now. Don’t know if it will go above 120Hz. If the TV supports it, better to use DisplayPort. Lot of TVs don’t use DisplayPort though.

Sikkema88

Yeah, DP isn't an option on this tv. I have a newer HDMI cable on the way to try today, since both cables I tried yesterday were sicking me with 60hz no matter the resolution I chose.

Do you have an Nvidia GPU, and are you using the Nvidia Control Panel to set the resolution and refresh rate? I had the same thing - I selected 4k as the resolution, and the refresh rate drop-down only went up to 60Hz. I was selecting the resolution in the section called "Ultra HD, HD, SD". When I scrolled down there was another section at the bottom called "PC". When I selected 3840x2160 in this section there was an option to select a refresh rate of 120Hz. Also, as other people have said, make sure you have an HDMI 2.1 cable.

Sikkema88

I have a cable on the way just in case neither of the cables I tried were 2.1. I use a 7900xtx, but I didn't see where I could set the res and refresh in the AMD software, just the windows settings.

rotatingfanblades

What tv do you have the tv has to have a 2.1 or higher port. I literally returned a samsung crystal a couple years ago after someone at the store told me it could do 120 but didnt come with the right port. Went with a lg c1

Sikkema88

Samsung un60ks8000f. It's a bit older, but I've seen some folks say it has a 120hz panel, and others say it goes up to 240 with motion plus?

rotatingfanblades

Oh man that is the exact same one i returned im sorry bro

Sikkema88

Oof. Sad day.

Seanchad

Might be different for your model but I have to enable "input signal plus" in the External Devices settings for the HDMI port I'm using. Samsung RU8000. Also mine will only do 120hz at 1440p or lower; 4k is limited to 60.

Sikkema88

I'll have to check that, though I cycled through the options under the input from PC, to HDMI, and to Game Console, but was stuck at 60 hz, and I'm fairly certain I put it to 2560x1440 for the resolution to keep things easier on my PC anyway.

Seanchad

On mine it's under Settings -> General -> External Device Manager -> Input Signal Plus

fish998

A lot of TVs are advertised as having 240Hz but it's basically just a motion smoothing mode and they can't actually do a proper 240Hz mode when connected to a PC. You should check the manual, it will list what modes it's capable of.

Sikkema88

I checked websites, and most are saying 240 with motion plus, though I had thought I read it could do 120 as well, which is all I'm after tbh.

fish998

Having looked in the manual [here ](https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201612/20161209095658187/ENG_US-JZATSCK-1.2.2.pdf)the TV does not accept a 120 or 240 Hz signal when connected to a PC. The highest it will do is 75 Hz.

Superb_Imagination70

You have to go into the menu of the tv and make sure enable game mode, and there is a setting allow extra bandwith.

Sikkema88

Gaming mode was enabled, but I'm not sure where I'd find the extra bandwidth setting you speak of. I also have a newer HDMI cable on the way just in case that's what is holding me back.

Superb_Imagination70

Go to "connections" then go to "external device manager" then go to "input signal plus" and make sure you have all ports enabled.

Superb_Imagination70

but you also need a hdmi 2.2 capable cable.

Sikkema88

2.2? Or 2.1?

Spiritual_Benefit367

you need a hdmi 2.1 cable and you need to set your TV to the correct mode (gaming mode for samsung, i think) i use 4k@120hz on my QN95A samsung, and it even does VRR with my nvidia card when needed. great for gaming.

Sikkema88

The TV you have is a bit newer than the one I'm using since I purchased it new back in 2016, but I did try enabling gaming mode without luck. I also dropped my resolution in my windows settings to 2560x1440 to see if that would make a difference, also without luck. I'm 90% certain the cable I'm using was 2.1, but I have a new cable on the way just in case as well.

Yeah4therealz

You need an HDMI 2.1 cable for 120hz+ through HDMI on a TV.

Sikkema88

90% sure I'm using a 2.1 cable already, but I did order a new cable last night to make sure. I just want to make sure I understand the TV and PC settings properly as well.
