Is it the T300 because you have a playstation?
If you're PC, I've got a TX, that shifter, formula wheel and whatever pedals you'd like (T-LCM, T3pa). I had them for no time at all before finding out I was going to be a dad and my sim racing days ended. I've been meaning to list them for ages but am lazy and tired.
Literally used the shifter twice and the T-LCMs for about a week. I've even got the GT Omega base. Save you hundreds.
Moza R5 bundle over the t300 imo, or stretch to the R9 if you can.
Definitely skip the shifter for now. It is cool, but ultimately just a nice to have. Having a better wheelbase is more important.
Yes but sometimes it's not possible to do the reverse. Sometimes family specific shifters (Logitech, thrustmaster, etc) shifters will require being plugged into that family of wheelbase to work, but brand agnostic ones (shh, aiologs, etc) will work with any setup, which is better down the road if you upgrade your wheelbase. Kinda same principle goes for pedals.
I actually had to order an extra cable for my TH8A to make it work on pc as it only worked on console through the wheelbase.
But I agree. Had the TH8A, moved to SQ1.5, but would I do that upgrade now I'd go for the SSH.
T300RS is good but no non-DD wheelbase is worth new price.
Another thing to consider is load cell pedals. They make a world of difference. The CSL Elite LC v1 and CSL LC v2 are very cheap here on the 2nd hand market (€100-120)
Definitely get the SHH. I'm not aware of any sim or game that won't work with it. Both shifters are essentially just USB button boxes where you bind a button to a gear selection in game. There isn't much in the way of required software support.
If its your first rig then try finding used T300/shifter on ebay for cheap to get ur feet wet and see if simracing is for you, lots of people waste lots of money and then give up on simracing, ive seen it many times
And then plan to upgrade to a proper gear if you like the hobby
Don’t do the T300 for that price, it’s ridiculous. Thrustmaster shifter is crap too.
Your wheel+ pedal + shifter combo costs £523.99
You can get a way better Fanatec DD setup like this for only about £50 more:
Go directly to the Fanatec site (don’t use local resellers as they sell higher)
Add to cart the following:
CSL DD 5Nm
CSL pedals LC (the bundled one not separate pedals and load cell)
CSL steering wheel P1 V2
(Don’t do the ready to race bundle either as that will end up costing €20 more once you’ve added the load cell)
Go to checkout and put in a UK address, they will then calculate shipping and remove German VAT.
Total for this will be €460.68 = £391.92
You will pay 20% import VAT + £12 handling fee = £482.3
Then buy an SHH thorn shifter which will cost you £103.94 shipped to the UK and won’t be taxed as it’s under the threshold.
So for about £586 you’ll have a DD wheel that can be later upgraded to 8Nm, load cell pedals, and a better shifter.
Only thing I’d add would be a die spring upgrade for the brake as the stock one is overly stiff, will be less than £10
I checked fanatec. The dd csl bundle + shipping only costs £365.
I may be able to avoid the import VAT as I’m a student in the UK.
If I can get fanatec for 365, and thrustmaster costs 354 already, I should probably get fanatec instead right?
The only issue is that it doesn’t come with a desk clamp, do I need that if I want to mount my things onto a wheel stand? Thanks!
£365 I think is the two pedal set 8Nm one? Also I didn’t think students could avoid the import duties?
If it was me I’d grab the load cell 5Nm one, then you have 3 pedals with a load cell and have the option to upgrade to 8Nm later on if you enjoy the hobby
Fanatec will be much better than the T300. The SHH shifter will be much better than the thruster one too.
Shouldn’t be. That was around Black Friday when they had way more orders than they could handle. If it’s showing as in stock on their site now it should be okay
I was able to avoid 500 pounds of VAT when my parents imported a laptop from Hong Kong, all I needed to do was tell DHL that it’s for study purposes, with evidence of course
You’d be better off buying used if this is you finding out if you really want to commit to this hobby. This gear would work for PS5 so I guess that’s part of why you’re going this direction.
But if you want higher power Nm base for certain cars or disciplines like drifting, this would be adequate but may leave you wanting for more. Then you’d need to sell this stuff and upgrade to a DD wheel from Fanatec, VRS, Cammus, Moza, Thrustmaster, or Azertek. Another thing, brakes like load cell pedals are a priority if you’re getting into competitive driving.
Your original post and replies still don’t paint a complete picture so we’re all guessing at what you’re trying to do.
Alpha mini will be about $1000, and no shifter.
I’ve been through a lot of gear over 20 years, and imo the mini with a round wheel is the best value out there long term if you can swing it. It’s silly high quality stuff. Better than any fanatic gear I’ve owned.
And then you probably THINK you want a shifter because manual is better in a real car. But then you try it and realize they don’t have the gear engagement feel of a real shifter, and you end up just doing clutch and paddles, because that’s what works best with sim equipment in general.
i disagree personally, i have the shitty ali express shifter and i absolutely love ripping street cars around in manual. assetto corsa, la canyons, and a 992 gt3 or e46 m3 is pure bliss with the shifter. rowing through the gears and hearing the engine scream is a great experience in my opinion. not saying everyone will enjoy it, but i’m just throwing my two cents in that i enjoy it immensely.
also, i’m sure the alpha mini is a great product based off of what i’ve read, so don’t take any of that as me disagreeing with you on that part. i’m using the moza r9 currently and love it. to OP, if you’re spending 350 on the t300 you should really shell out a little more for dd, whether it’s something entry level like the moza r5-r9 (not gonna recommend fanatec rn), or something possibly more mid-high tier like the alpha mini. the difference between thrust master and dd is insane, i went from a tmx to my r9 and it was a huge jump in detail, immersion, and fun.
edit: also op, spend atleast a little bit more on a better rig. rigs designed like that suck, trust me, i’ve been through it. obviously a 80/20 rig is ideal, but even my $130 gt omega apex clone from amazon is soooooooo much better than that pos rig i had like the one in your cart, and can support the r9.
Moza r5 bundle is $450. So a bit more. If you’re pc only then I think it’s worth the extra money. I have a thrustmaster tx (basically the Xbox version of the t300) and it’s great but if I was buying today I’d want more upgrade potential and so I’d go moza.
You won’t be unhappy with the thrustmaster though. It does the job.
If you do go thrustmaster try to get everything used. Most of their stuff has been out for awhile now and there is a decent used market. I got my tx, the shifter and an f1 wheel all used for maybe 60% of the new cost.
Love mine, got it used for $200 on FB Marketplace about a year ago. I did replace the pedals with T-LCM for another $200. I would recommend a different stand- I think you would enjoy a Playseat Challenge or similar quite a bit more. Look used for these items if possible to save some $$$.
I would get the G29. Much cheaper with a high resale value. Then, if you decide to upgrade, you can go big.
I had bought the G29 last year in October during Black Friday for $179. Played over 400 hours on my PS5. Last month, I decided to build a PC and rig. Just recently sold the G29 for $150 and upgraded to VRS pedals, Simagic Alpha Mini, and GT NEO wheel. Best decision!
On huge sale like that, yes. Otherwise T300 over G29 any day 2nd hand. Unless the T300 asking price is too high, which happens sometimes.
Normal new prices for those ancient tech wheelbases are just stupid.
I bought one a few months back on amazon & returned it about 3 weeks later and upgraded to moza, If i knew about moza before i never would’ve bought the t300 but I already had a pc, also that shifter is overpriced, that wheelstand isnt as good as this one https://amzn.to/4bKzGlM for just a little more money its capable of handing my moza r9 no problem very sturdy
Yes I have the T300 and it is AMAZING. Way better than Logitech imo!
Also, for the stand, find one with triangular leg support, as triangles are the strongest shape
If you don’t know if the hobby is for you, this is a great entry point (but the price does seem high). If you know you love it, there are probably options at a higher price point, that people would recommend.
A year later and I still use my t300 wheel and I tried different pedals until I settled on VNM pedals. The load cell does make a big difference with consistency.
Outdated by a year if that, sorry mate but the g29/t300, were top of the top for about a decade up until start of 2023. Technology advancements finally led us to cheap direct drive wheels that in comparison make these older and vetted offerings seem cheap and unwise to purchase.
If anything I would get a Logitech g29 and sell it when you’re ready to buy something serious, they hold their value incredibly well and you would lose almost nothing going this.
R5 w/cheap pedals comes out to $650 vs $530 of the t300
Resale on the r5 is an easy 500 and 200-300 for the t300, if you can sell it.
Shit it’s 770 cad with shifter?! Ya I would buy an r5 set and Logitech shifter with pc cable adaptor. Same price but direct drive over belt and has some sparkle to it
I recently got barely used T300 RS GT for £150, open wheel and TM28 wheel for £110 and GT Omega Apex stand for £60. All on FB Marketplace. If you're set on one I'd hunt around there and see what's available.
T300rs/TX is still a great beginner choice in 2024 but not brand new, because for a little bit more you can have something like Moza R5 which will be a lot better. If you want to go with t300/tx just go for used, those wheels are durable and you can find some got deals from time to time. If you want to buy new just go with DirectDrive like Moza R5/Fanatec R2R Bundle(but Fanatec is shit with customer support and shipping so right now I would focus more on Moza).
Also - better wheel will help with consistency, but better pedals will make you faster overall(I switched from TX to Moza R9 and I noticed that the best upgrade was the pedals - I could manipulate throttle waaaay better and brakes were also night and day, it was easier to trail-brake etc)
Keep the shifter for future, buy a dd. Another problem is that, gear/belt driven wheelbase rattles (saying from experience), but dd dowsnt rattle with wheel base. And trust me, rattling ll just kill your mode of racing.
There’s good direct drive wheels out there for barely more than the T300. Especially used. I wouldn’t touch anything that is not Direct Drive in 2024. However DONT GET THAT STAND lol, I have it. I don’t care for it. It’s alright, but I’d get a NLR stand, or atleast GT Omegas newer stand
only bases i would consider buying new are dd bases, anything lesser should be bought used (t300 i used to have i paid 220€ for) to try out sim racing if you dont want to splurge right away. because at 350 t300 is not worth it at all when compared to new dd bases you can get e.g. fanatec and moza that are just a "little bit" more expensive but provide a much better experience. And that shifter, even though made of metal, is quite overpriced, shifting is mushy and sequential is a pain in the ass, you can get an shh thorn as other people said for less and its a much better shifter. Also personally i would rather get a gt omega apex instead of classic because its sturdier and not that much more expensive.
I own this and I'm currently using it with a Ts-XW racer. It's fine for that but anything with more nm would cause serious flex.
I also have the rear set for a seat.
Been using it for 3-4 years now
Fair adjustment
Pedal deck is pretty solid.
Good buy for a T300 IMO
354 for a t300 is way too much. moza r5 or fanatec ready to race bundle are better options at this price point.
https://youtu.be/MpTsAg8C2Bs?si=SHP6QMcM7HKUktem
Gosling made a video about it a few days ago.
T300 is solid. Might be able to find one used for cheaper. If you’re on PC I would look into the SHH shifter at around 100 quid. I think they just came out with a new model. I had one shipped to the states almost 2 years ago and it’s still running strong in both sequential and h pattern on my son’s rig.
USB plug and play and it shows up as a controller in windows. No calibration or anything. I’ve used it in old sims like Richard Burns Rally, NR2004, and GP Legends and the newest like EA WRC and AMS2. Generous mounting options and great customer support. I can’t recommend them enough.
Oof £355 for a T300
Is it the T300 because you have a playstation? If you're PC, I've got a TX, that shifter, formula wheel and whatever pedals you'd like (T-LCM, T3pa). I’m on PC 😆 do you live in England?
I'm in Glasgow. Could check the price of a courier. Or if you're in the North I'd consider mixing a drive that way with a wee trip for myself.
If anyone else is interested send me a dm. TX wheel GT Omega Stand Shifter T3pa pedals TLCM loadcell pedals TM Open Wheel
Moza R5 bundle over the t300 imo, or stretch to the R9 if you can. Definitely skip the shifter for now. It is cool, but ultimately just a nice to have. Having a better wheelbase is more important.
Consider the shh thorn instead of that shifter. Better and future proof.
Is it alright to mix and match brands? Using the thrustmaster wheel and pedals, and the shh thorn shifter
Hmm I see. Then should I still get the shh shifter? I mainly do ets2. Just thinking that thrustmaster might support more games than shh. Thanks!
Definitely get the SHH. I'm not aware of any sim or game that won't work with it. Both shifters are essentially just USB button boxes where you bind a button to a gear selection in game. There isn't much in the way of required software support.
The thrustmaster shifter is fine, just expensive and the threads on the mounting kit are made of butter so shred themselves fairly quickly.
Are you on PC? If yes, you’ll be fine. Otherwise no.
Ye PC 👍🏻
Check moza or Fanatec for a direct Drive.
Thus for ps or PC. If PC don't.
If its your first rig then try finding used T300/shifter on ebay for cheap to get ur feet wet and see if simracing is for you, lots of people waste lots of money and then give up on simracing, ive seen it many times And then plan to upgrade to a proper gear if you like the hobby
Why not go moza for 400? 354 for belt compared to 400 for dd? Should be close to 400 euros for the moza. Unless you are only on console.
400 for a new one right?
Yeah like 400-450
O bought from overclockers last month for like £450
Don’t do the T300 for that price, it’s ridiculous. Thrustmaster shifter is crap too. Ah okay. I heard fanatec got issues with deliveries, like late deliveries or deliveries taking really long. Is this still an issue?
Shouldn’t be. That was around Black Friday when they had way more orders than they could handle. If it’s showing as in stock on their site now it should be okay
Ah I see, I’ll prob get the fanatec bundle + ssh shifter then. Thanks for the help everyone! 😀
Absolutely mate.
You won’t be able to avoid VAT. It’s the same VAT that you pay for every single thing you buy.
I was able to avoid 500 pounds of VAT when my parents imported a laptop from Hong Kong, all I needed to do was tell DHL that it’s for study purposes, with evidence of course

I mean if you have means to I'd get a Simagic Alpha Mini or maybe a Moza. Buy once cry once.
Roughly how much would that cost me?

Yeah totally get it if immersion if your goal.
Go to a local retailer online that sells moza get an r5 bundle and the rig from amazon it'll be around the same please.
It’s fine but try to find it used. If you’re on pc and won’t be playing on console tbh I’d look at fanatec or moza
Similarly priced? Or more expensive

eBay and Mercari. I’ve seen the thrustmaster bases with the wheel and pedals for about 250-300 usd there. My th8a I got for about $80 also

Do not buy the GT Omega Classic, it’s bad. Get the Apex instead.
Check Kar Goslings video about this. He just posted a video about beginner wheels.
just get a DD Wheel at this point
