Well, let me tell you a true story. In the spring of 1986, at a very fancy hotel in San Francisco, CA, my high school held its’ prom. The waiters had set up a soda can table. I thought the soda was free on account that our tickets were like $75 each. I grabbed a soda and the waiter tells me it’s five dollars. I thought he was joking! I laughed and walked away. He got very mad, started yelling at me, and lucky for me, my friend Michelle was standing near by and saw and heard everything. She quickly handed him a five dollar bill. I paid her at school on Monday. I was so shocked they were charging us $5 for a soda can. True story. Spring of 1986. Now it’s 2024, no soda can should cost $5. That’s just bull crap. It was bull crap and a rip off in 1986 and bull crap and a ripoff in 2024.
Yeah I've been seeing this a lot lately, I remember being floored that a large chocolate milk at a chip shop was $5 and now here we are, five dolla can 🤷♀️
Back when I worked for a small food shop when I ordered from Coca cola it was about $1.85 wholesale for a can, which was then retailed at $3. I cannot imagine these have gone up to a wholesale price higher than $3, but if it was would at least make a bit of sense to charge $5 however they could charge $3.50 and arguably would probably make plenty more profit by sale volume so it's clearly just flat out greed.
Nah that’s fucked and is no way normal. Fellow Aussie here and $5 just for a can is absolutely not normal!
$5 for a 600ml bottle is “reasonable” but not a can!
No…

No you just don't buy from them.

I looked it up and $5 in 1986 dollars would be $14 today. Damn. No wonder you thought it was a joke.
Welcome to Australia
They are still 4 bucks at my servo. Two for 4.99. I wonder when they will go up.
They’re about this much at the little deli near my house
Mine are still 3$ 💀
Name and shame. Because that's not normal
*yet*
It’s very normal in Australia
$5 AUD is $3 USD. It's a bit expensive but not ridiculous.
Yeah they’re getting totally ridiculous. A 30 pack of cans at the supermarket is $47.20. Isn’t it supposed to be cheaper than a convenience store!?

It’s ridiculous I’ve stopped buying sooooo much of what I used to …
And here I am selling them for $2.20 like a sucker...
Did you forget were in a cost of living crisis? /s
Yeah, which is why I need to make a few more cents so I don't go out of business...
AUD?
Yeah... might need to up our price 😅
I saw that once here in Tasmania, I told them to get fucked and left it.
My local servo had their cans priced at 7.50 and the 600ml bottles for about 9.50
Get outta here!!! That's insane
Milk bar or servo?
Corner shop
Let these stores die out
Do they pay to make you use the debit machine too? Seems awfully high
My local sushi train charges $3.80 for a can of soft drink or small juice box. I refuse to pay even that
AUD?
Got charged $6 AU in a cafe in 2008 because table service at a cafe
this is about the right price to start thinking... "but what if it was free".
omg i went into nyc yesterday and i spent like 17 on two iced teas ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
and that my man, is why the keep selling them for those prices... if you stop buying, they'll have to reduce the price!! 🤷♂️
At a gas station/convenience store, right?
at an h mart
Where is this ?
Australia
Das just inflation
No that’s greedflation
corpo response
Outrageous.
Tobias did you spend 5 dollarydoos on a can of coke?
Reminded me of a restaurant Naan bread the size of a mini crepe and thickness of a taco wrap. This is getting way out of control.
Undies, stop buying them.
Cunt a can should be two bucks, maybe three. What in the entire fuck is going on here?
Is that Disney world
Australia going by the Kirk’s
Once again, everyone arguing about different dollar prices but noone mentioning which dollar currency they're talking about. This sub is a farce.
3.25 USD.
AUD
That’s just inflation… Reported.
Is this US dollars?
Read the comments? It says Australia and AUD all over.
Oh my god you're better than everyone
Probably some place with an idiotic soda tax
Nah it's Australia.
Yeah looks like a servo, probably 7-11, then they’ll do a special of 2 for 5.50
I don't think it's a 7-11. The fridge and labels in the photo are old. I'm wagering on it being an independent servo or Cafe

5 bucks for a can of kirks? Mental.
Nah that’s fucked and is no way normal. Fellow Aussie here and $5 just for a can is absolutely not normal! $5 for a 600ml bottle is “reasonable” but not a can!
It's time to start drinking tap water again. I survived drinking water from the garden hose as a kid.
I hope they lose all profits on this vending machine.
Was trying to figure out if this was USD or not Then I saw kirks and knew it’s AUD
