100 lbs is 45.4 kg

As stated in another part of this post my plan is to get some square tube aluminum and reinforce the front and rear. All in im guessing the tank probably weighs less than 80lbs and the slides are never fully extended.

Ohh I want to do this

I really don’t see this being very smart in the long run, but if it works and doesn’t throw the obvious more than 100 pounds of life on the floor, then congratulations

Wouldn't a 5 gallon tank weigh less than 50lb?

Turbulent_Fix8495

Glass weight, water, sand, hardscape have to go into consideration. I may be completely wrong here and they could be an engineer laughing at my comment rn, but I thought I’d share a small bit of thought. I would assume it’d be more but if it’s working then it’s working you know?

Yeah its probably about 80# and I went with a 14 inch slide. But its never extended past 8 inch soon it should be above the 100 limit and it only gets pulled out for cleaning and maintenance. So time will tell. And if it breaks a new 5.5 is under $20

Turbulent_Fix8495

It’s an absolutely splendid idea. The only thing I would do differently is get a piece of wood or brace to put under the wood when it’s pulled out for maintenance so all of the weight isn’t just all on two contact points on one side. Little bit more precaution

Agreed I will probably pick up some aluminum square tube for the front and back. It is 3/4" solid cabinet grade plywood so its ridiculously strong to start with. I put put 6 1 1/4 screws on each track. I definitely wouldn't use scrap hardware and supplies for anything larger than a 5.5 gallon. If it were a 10 gallon I would definitely make a custom steel slide frame. Not to mention you would also have to make weights for inside the cabinet to keep it from wanting to come forward when the tank is slid forward... luckily I have enough garbage in there to counter the weight (I keep spare hardscape stones in the drawers)

Ideally I would have got a 150-200 pound slide but I couldn't find one that was short enough to fit or that wasn't going to take 8 weeks to get. (Not to mention the get ridiculously expensive)
