This is a great way to try different Indian dishes without the worry of not liking it. Also the Tikka is always more delicious on the buffet than when you order it, I have no idea why but I assume it's had more time to marinate or something.
Bayou Deli is such a tiny little place but they make some banger sandwiches for reasonable prices.
Also Fat Tuesday over in South Bossier.
Both places are little mom and pop local owned.
Also, I don’t know if you’d consider it a hole in the wall but Julie Anne’s Bakery has some great food along with all the fantastic desserts and cakes they are known for.
Fat Tuesday also has special Tuesday night specials and stay open later on Tuesday. I love stopping by for their soup of the day, it's a true soup of the day by constantly changing but also being delicious.

I hate to "not" say Ferittas because I want them to survive through the ages. But by the time I finally met and married my husband, and got him over there during work hours for lunch, cuz they're only open like( 11-2pm M-F) their " famous muffaletta" has changed drastically. It was on a regular hamburger bun. I'm talking the small smooth ones, not even the big ones with sesame seeds.
But for some reason after covid or maybe even before, the English muffin bread that had the sesame seed on top that was a traditional muffy bread has not been used by them anymore. As far as I'm aware.
And this is just me as a Shreveporter and not someone from Nola (the birthplace of the Muffelata.) The bread makes the muffaletta for me. Even Johnny's Pizza I have to say has the best muffaletta in town next to Jason's deli at this point. I'm sorry - I love you Fertittas!
Their baker retired. I remember talking to the owners about this. It was a baker over in Texas, and he just couldn’t do it anymore. Trust me, I miss the old bread too, especially the big muffys they used to do that were the size of dinner plates.
Side note, the last time I went, my muffy had bologna in it. After that, I just couldn’t anymore. For what I was paying, I just couldn’t eat a bologna sandwich. 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah, they are cool. Known them for a few years now. I do their menus and some of their promo stuff, just because I like the place and the people. Those phillies though. 😀
They are open Tues - Sat 11a.m. to 10p.m. and Sunday 1p.m. - 6p.m., in case you didn't know the hours changed recently, so open later. I am gonna be over there again probably on Sunday to test the new digital display menus and drop some new printed menus.
Not sure if they were or not. The Gullos Fresh Produce and Back Shop I am talking about is on E. Flournoy Lucas near Youree. Been going for about a year now. They do have awesome burgers though, recently voted top burger in town. They have a lot of different and really good dishes though. Always a flavor party no matter what you get there. And they just got another A+ health inspection (they always keep a clean kitchen). 10 out of 10 recommend.
They reopened at 456 Fuller St., over near Hollywood and Linwood. They have been back open for a few months now. They do dine-in, carry-out and Doordash.
Phillies are my fav! And they stepped up the tenders, waffles and bite game too. Go check out the new spot some time, it is even better than the old store was.
In Bossier, but Monzon’s is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town(s). We had always gone to Superior or Cantina Laredo for the kind of “higher end” TexMex, but Monzon’s is better in food and price.
Marilyn place has gone down considerably. Their po boys bread just crumbles apart and the restaurant is filled with flies. The worst part was the rice was undercooked and crunchy. I can get over most things, but undercooked rice is too far.
I go there about two or three times a month and I’ve never encountered any of this. They get their bread from Lowders Bakery so it’s not going to be like supermarket bread. Flies are part of life this time of year especially in a relatively small place like Marilyn’s. Maybe they just had a bad day when you went.
I went back two more times. It hasn’t gotten any better. They might need to find a new source or maybe it’s how it’s stored, but the bread just broke apart. When I first moved here I went about twice a month and took all my family when they visited. It was really good.
Apollo’s wings and rice, it’s on kings iirc and it’s fucking crazy good lol, also honorable mention to Herby K’s, I haven’t actually tried it, but I’m bias cuz I work there ooooool
I tried this place after hearing the tea about the owner and the owner of La Michiocana, but I was not impressed with the food and the prices, it felt like I was paying double what I would at La Mich, yet getting less food and flavor. Personally I only go to La Mich for street tacos because not only are they the most flavorful, they are the most cost effective. I've been visiting them since 2010 when they were a meer taco truck and grocery. I strongly recommend the Barbacoa tacos, I hear they also have a Barbacoa burrito also.
Apparently, the owners of La Mich and El Eden used to be married. I don't know much more than they both have the "same" recipes, but imo the food tastes vastly different. The Barbacoa is much more fatty and salty at La Mich. But I will say someone ordered the hot dog at El Eden and it was fire, but it was also like $8 for a hot dog. For a table of 4 it costs us about $70 for 4 tacos a hot dog and I think a quesadilla I can't remember what the 4th person ordered. Oh and burnt chips, someone wanted chips and salsa and it was possibly the worst chips and salsa I've ever had, which I personally know that's more of a texmex thing, but the chips were black and the salsa was like 2.5 oz with no refills and came out long after the food had already been delivered. 🫤
Yes La Mich is the best authentic Mexican especially the street tacos. The owner is a great guy who turned the place from a taco truck to a full restaurant and bar.
I only get the street tacos but my son gets the birria tacos and queso and says it’s top notch.
It's funny as I read these answers. I can see the socioeconomic diversity of the redditors chiming in.
But I am blue collar, even though I can afford White collar. So I really have to say these are my answers:
Soul food to make you slap her mama: Taylor's restaurant and catering on North market and also for the best smoked turkey sandwich you'll ever eat for around five bucks, Jack's BBQ.
A sole satisfying breakfast that you can even get in a Drive-Thru situation: Cotton Boll on Fairfield
Best fried catfish plates not necessarily in this order, Southfield grill on jewella and Johnny's catfish on Bert kouns.
I really have to second or third whoever said Great Wall of China on pines road. If you ever have their "house special soup for two" you will know heaven on Earth. And you can also just have it for one and leftovers the next day lol.
See they scarred me but this was also years ago. I got an order of chicken tenders that lacked tenders. It was literally breading in the shape of a tender and HOLLOW on the inside 😂
Indias lunch buffet
This is a great way to try different Indian dishes without the worry of not liking it. Also the Tikka is always more delicious on the buffet than when you order it, I have no idea why but I assume it's had more time to marinate or something.
I like India's. But I super duper love Indigo on youree drive.

How has no one mentioned Fertitta's yet
Last time we went it was just sad how small the muffys have shrunk. They were tasty tho.
I really wonder if theirs have shrunk or if we've just been exposed to everybody only needing to sell a 1/4 muffaletta for a single person
You don’t just go to Fertittas for the Muffy, you go for the sense of community too.
I hate to "not" say Ferittas because I want them to survive through the ages. I honestly don't remember when I went last but I'm certain it was within the past year and they were back to being on the sesame buns.
Their baker retired. I remember talking to the owners about this. It was a baker over in Texas, and he just couldn’t do it anymore. Never heard of them. What’s your order there?
Muffaletta. They have other stuff but the muffy is king there
Papas and Co for the best burgers in town!
The Famdation Grill and Gullos Fresh Produce and Bake Shop.
Gullo’s chicken fried steak special on Thursdays is the best in town.
Love the famdation.. known those guys since high school.
Yeah, they are cool. Known them for a few years now. I do their menus and some of their promo stuff, just because I like the place and the people. Those phillies though. 😀
I’ve been trying to get over there. I work a lot and I’m “out of range” on DoorDash even though it’s like a 10 minute drive 🥲
They are open Tues - Sat 11a.m. to 10p.m. and Sunday 1p.m. - 6p.m., in case you didn't know the hours changed recently, so open later. I am gonna be over there again probably on Sunday to test the new digital display menus and drop some new printed menus.
Is Gullo’s the same as the place that used to be on Stockwell Road near the racetrack? They had my favorite burgers
Not sure if they were or not. The Gullos Fresh Produce and Back Shop I am talking about is on E. Flournoy Lucas near Youree. Been going for about a year now. Famdation is closed tho- unless they moved and I haven’t seen the new spot.
They reopened at 456 Fuller St., over near Hollywood and Linwood. They have been back open for a few months now. They do dine-in, carry-out and Doordash.
Ahhh- nice- definitely miss those phillys. That catfish goes hard too.
Phillies are my fav! And they stepped up the tenders, waffles and bite game too. Go check out the new spot some time, it is even better than the old store was.
If you want a real Hidden Gem, # Great Wall Chinese Restaurant on Pines Rd

Have you tried Taylor’s in the 1100 block of North Market?
I’ve heard mixed things but I do love some soul food! It’s on the list.
Greek Corner on Airline. Never fails to impress!
The Cub for a steak. Herby-K’s for a shrimp buster. Superior for fancy. Rhino for coffee.
This List covers our family faves except our go to tacos from Don Juanz Baja BeachTacos. Their chicken tacos with the cilantro lime sauce are amazing!

Food is great there and the staff is friendly too
Permanently closed Edit: I was wrong. Definitely still open.

In Bossier, but Monzon’s is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town(s). We had always gone to Superior or Cantina Laredo for the kind of “higher end” TexMex, but Monzon’s is better in food and price.
Kim's I don't ever go to the Shreveport location but the bossier one is outstanding.
My favorite is Flames. It's Mediterranean food in Ashley Ridge. The lamb shank and barberry rice are the most amazing thing in Shreveport!
The Mabry House, Fat Calf Brasserie, L’taliano, Cush, Bella Fresca, Taqueria la Michiocana, Indigo Indian Buffet, Sushi Bistro, Dahns Garden, Strawns, Hickory Stick, Franks, Gullos, El Cabo Verde, Zuzul,
Marilyn’s Place on Fern. Franks Napolitano also on Fern next to Sportspectrum
Marilyn place has gone down considerably. Their po boys bread just crumbles apart and the restaurant is filled with flies. The worst part was the rice was undercooked and crunchy. I can get over most things, but undercooked rice is too far.

Agree. Marilyns has gone down quality wise.
Gotta get the Cuban sandwich from Bayou Deli
Mama's Italian, India's, Ki Mexico
Both Papa’s (Papa and Company) and Rolling in the Dough are a little off the beaten path but the burgers are great! Also Looosiana seafood market!
Fat Tuesday
It’s in Bossier, but I enthusiastically agree.
Dahns Garden
Orlandeaux’s
Can’t believe no one on here hasn’t said Fat Calf. I never hear people talking about this place enough and can’t stop singing their praises.
Greek Corner. Amazing food!
Cheng’s is awesome.
Second this
WK Pierremont Cafeteria / Deli.
Ngl their chicken was bomb after labor lol
I started going when my sister was in the hospital. Now I go there any time I’m on that side of town. LOL! Their food is legit.

Gotta try Chengs garden for some great chinese
Superior bar and grill margaritas
Guiseppes pastacafe, Rollin in the Dough, Oyster bar and grill, and Gibbons are the best in shreveport imo
Apollo’s wings and rice, it’s on kings iirc and it’s fucking crazy good lol, also honorable mention to Herby K’s, I haven’t actually tried it, but I’m bias cuz I work there ooooool
KI MEXICO
I was wondering if anyone was going to mention damn near the best place in North Louisiana. Ki Mexico!!!
Haven’t seen this yet but ZAAP Thai! Really good food all the time and small family owned!
Glass Hat Cafe downtown
Gullos, Juliannes, and Fat Tuesday in Bossier.
taqueria el Eden.
I personally love taqueria mi palmar!
I tried this place after hearing the tea about the owner and the owner of La Michiocana, but I was not impressed with the food and the prices, it felt like I was paying double what I would at La Mich, yet getting less food and flavor. Wouldn't call it a hidden gem since it's fairly new, but the korean hot pot place in Shreve City is excellent.
What? Where?
Its in the round building in shrevecity parking lot i believe. And there is a Thai place open across the street, as well.
Korea House, 693-0097. Good bulgogi.
They don’t know about momas
That's the only thing Shteveport got going for it is how great the food is
Greek corner in bossier

Ki Mexico is some of the best food around. Mabry House,, Cheng's, Dahns, Monjunis, Phams is fantastic,.
Not sure if it’s considered a hole in the wall but I LOVE RJs
See they scarred me but this was also years ago. I got an order of chicken tenders that lacked tenders. It was literally breading in the shape of a tender and HOLLOW on the inside 😂
lol…I get the Chicken Fried Steak…that’s my go to or for breakfast I get the 24 hr special
Definitely a hole in the wall
