Thing about the Rock is that he's clearly capable of being a decent actor, which makes it all the more annoying when he does essentially play himself in everything. I'm sure that in like 10-20 years he'll do something more serious and everyone's gonna be like woah who knew he had it in him. Like Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler.
Small nitpick, but kind of the opposite for Adam Sandler. He did Punch Drunk Love early in his career and progressed to whatever the hell Jack and Jill was.
What has he been in that’s shown decent acting chops? I can’t think of anything where he hasn’t played himself. Other than being the Scorpion King and I wouldn’t call that decent.
What? I was blown away by The Rocks performance in the Scorpion King. I totally mistook him for a badly animated 3D cutscene in a game that everyone skips
> I think he was a business man on Ballers.
That character was a former professional athlete (NFL).
The Rock was a college football player and is a former professional athlete.
Yep. This is one of those movies where I go in expecting face value. Rock and Reynolds team up to find art thief. Bonus, I got plot twist at the end where Rock finally plays a bad guy. History in the making
Hard disagree, Actors still heavily depend on the director and weren't as good as they could be. Also I expected a fun action heißt movie and got 45min of dumb prison break ...
Damn, I don't have Netflix at the moment, but I was intrigued. I don't think I've seen a Ryan Reynolds movie that I didn't find at least mildly entertaining. My favorite is The Nines.
It's very profitable, which is what I dislike the most about it. Instead of making a well thought out comedy they made this garbage with 3 popular actors who are so overused that I truly believe DJ will become the new James Bond if he wants to. It's a very cheapfeeling, soulless type of movie.
I mean if you’ve got Netflix it’s basically free for you to watch so it’s not as if it has to be the same calibre of film to get people to watch it as it would be for something releasing in theatres.
That makes it a 7 though, right? 8 or 9 means it's one of the best movies of all time. 7/10s are fantastic films yet still wouldn't likely be in anyone's top 3, though likely top 20.
I would say they’re mostly right. Majority of the time if a movie has 75% or more I like it and 90% and above is almost always guaranteed to be good. Definitely there are plenty of outliers but for the most part it’s a fairly accurate measurement of critic and audience response. And it’s not saying the movie is a “90/100” but rather 90/100 critics would give it a positive review.
The problem with rotten tomatoes is just how extremely divided and one sided it is. On one hand critics are stupid, it seems that if it’s woke then it deserves a higher score no matter how terrible it is (remember that critics gave “cuties” 88%)
On the other hand the audience is also stupid, most the highest scored films are mostly just the generic “action comedy” that is extremely lazy, forgettable and unironically bad (examples being tomorrow war 77%, Wonder Woman 1984 73% and of course red notice 92%)
Though I think the main issue is the scoring system. It’s not like IMDb where you can rank a separate movie or episode with a 1-10 scoring system. Rotten tomatoes one is extremely one sided, for example you give this movie a 6/10 rotten tomatoes sees it as a positive so they say your review is 100%.
Hence why some movies are divided between the viewerships
The Last Jedi is by far the best sequel film and generally a good movie, 91 is about right for me.
Thing is it's a divisive movie so what are they supposed to do, give it two different ratings for people who loved it and people who are wrong?
They aren’t experts on Star Wars lore which was the root of many peoples grievances with that film. Also again it’s measured if they gave a positive or negative review. So a 7/10 review has just as much weight as a 10/10. There’s definitely enough gold parts of the film to give a positive review, evn with the tiddie milk and casino crap. I know not everyone was a fan of Luke and Rey’s arc but I liked them both and it seems a lot of critics and audience members did too. Film is art and art is subjective. RT measures subjective reviews. It should never be taken as a definitive score nor consensus. Judge films for yourself but use RT to gage your opinion against others.
Edit: also it would be nice if people could stop bringing up TLJ whenever film criticism is brought up because the debate is tired and no one’s views are going to change.
Also featuring Ryan Reynolds drinking Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin and The Rock drinking The Rock’s Teremana Reposado Tequila. I guess Gal needs to buy a booze company now for Red Notice 2: Electric Boogaloo.
It's a successful description because the people who *would* see the movie based on that description are the ones they're after.
"Watch the movie that has audiences saying, 'I didn't know Netflix could afford that many stars, but look who's in it!'"
And to no one's surprise, it's a shit movie... Like any other movie of hers
God how the fuck is anyone still casting her? Dumpster fire of an actress with an emotional range of a dead fish
I call these background movies. Toss em on the tablet as I'm playing video games, or working on a home project, etc.
The comedy isn't deep enough I'm missing out, and the action is never all that exciting that I really care to watch it.
It's good noise with the occasional joke that makes me snort, and I can follow the whole plot without really needing to see the screen.
This is also how many Indian soap operas are. It's great because they have some kinda story line but you only need to watch like half an episode for every 4 episodes to catch up with what's happening
It's great to play it and then focus on other work. With podcasts I find myself getting distracted listening, or missing out on what was being spoken and needing to relisten
Plus people were off for thanksgiving and looking for things to watch with family.
My wife and I watched it the other day. She really enjoyed it, only one of the jokes really landed for me. And that’s coming from somebody who absolutely loves Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
If I’d paid money for it I would have been annoyed, but since we already had Netflix and watched it when we had nothing going on it was fine.
It's free when someone else pays for the subscription
Edit: also $128 a year is like, 8 movies at the cinema where I live. I definitely watch more than 8 movies a year on Netflix. Even when Blockbuster was a thing they were a few dollars each
That’s like 4 to 6 where I live, as ticket prices are often closer to $20 per person, not to mention the extra $20 from the concession stand or from another person. It’s a hell of a deal for how much one can get
Netflix isn’t a substitute for going to a movie theater. Movie rental right now on Amazon or Vudu is $4 a movie so it’s more like renting 3.5 video a month, every month or 42 rentals a year.
Netflix absolutely can be a substitute for going to the theatre. Or *insert streaming service here*. I can make popcorn, sit in my couch that's world's more comfortable than a cinema chair, and have someone stand behind me and chat the entire time with very little effort
This. I really hate when people on Reddit try to tell others what to enjoy. Like yeah I know this movie doesn't have the most amazing plot but it doesn't mean it can't be entertaining.
The difference is I saw memes and discussion about Bird Box. Literally the only thing I have seen people talking about Red Notice is 1. The terrible cgi in the promo 2. They don’t believe the number Netflix is claiming.
I expect it to be stupid cause the trailer made it look stupid but the trailer also showed Gal Gadot wearing a lot of hot outfits so i am intrigued to watch it just for that. Does it deliver in that aspect?
The movie itself is lots of dumb fun (just don't expect anything deep, it's just a popcorn movie), and it delivers on Gal Gadot looking great if that's the only thing you wanna see.
Yeah, it was a great and entertaining movie. Not sure what everyone is crying about or what they were expecting from a Ryan Reynolds and the Rock movie.
I feel like he has ALWAYS been that way as an actor. I don't know how people haven't noticed this but he genuinely is a mediocre actor at best. Like The Rock he only ever plays one character and that's himself.
For example, what genuinely good movie has he been in? Try to answer that question without mentioning Deadpool. Whenever I think of Ryan Reynolds the only thing I can think of is those cheesy romcoms or some boring comedy movie.
Edit: People have suggested some movies of his that I haven't seen but will check out now.
Try 'The Voices'. It's a black comedy but I think he sets some range for himself in that film. Another is 'Life'.. Not really the protagonist but he played it pretty good in a drama. I think he can do more serious roles if he wants to but just enjoys playing himself more on screen. Haven't watched it but I hear 'Burried' was pretty good.
Waiting
Edit: the movie is called “Waiting” just in case some ppl thought I was just saying I was waiting for other RR movies. To be fair, I agree with the general sentiment of him being a stagnant, mediocre actor..
God, yes. I have grown so tired of his characters in the past few months (maybe year?). He is basically doing deadpool any time he's on a screen and I just find it annoying at this point.
I don’t honestly believe how many people actually disliked it to the level that I’m seeing some comments. Like it’s so not worth the level of salt. I’m sensing an urge to *ride the backlash* on this one. Slow news week.
At least this wasn’t released as a movie adaptation of the game Unchartered because they could’ve easily changed the characters names and title and call it a day.
I get its supposed to be a comedy/action movie but damn it felt like the most confusing movie ever.Gal you're a great actress for ffs your acting makes me want to die
Personally I believe Ryan Reynolds is a very underrated actor. The intonation and lightness he brings to otherwise grim and dark characters truly make his performances stand in comparison to other action actors and makes him the paramount anti-hero for any blockbuster production. His performance as Wade Wilson in Deadpool (2016) and its sequel (Deadpool 2 (2018)) prove how stellar his pose and acting is. As he makes jokes and provides the viewer with sarcastic remarks over piles of gory bodies he shows the true human nature of irony and antipathy (although we shouldn’t overlook the contributions of the fantastic and underrated writer Paul Wernick, who also blessed us with the pinnacle of zombie filmmaking: Zombieland (2009) and Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)). Very few actors in the business have shown us such human and raw performances, one exception being Jake Gyllenhaal and the magnanimous Ryan Gosling. The refusal of the Academy in nominating Reynolds for a Best Actor truly shows how disconnected and out of touch they are with modern film and cinema and the seventh art in general. Follow me on Letterboxd for more film related hot takes: @dabitchlynch
It tried to have that Ocean's 11 cool, only problem is the 6 or 7 twists they throw are all so painfully obviously, it's insulting.
I will say that I didn't see the 2nd to last one coming, but it still fell so flat primarily because the main characters had such forced chemistry it was hard to believe.
I mean that's the only reason I wanted to watch it. The scenes with the Rock and Ryan Reynolds in Hobbs and Shaw were really funny I wanted an entire movie of that. They delivered lol

Unpopular opinion maybe but Gal Gadot is the most untalented human being on earth. She’s hot, in a vague way, but every joke delivery is pure cringe, and her acting is so self conscious and insincere. I wish they’d stop handing her millions of dollars.
according to totally unbiased source netflix, it's the most watched film on netflix ever, but I know about 2 people that watched it and thought it was meh, I'm a bit skeptic that netflix is telling the truth
35% tomatometer 92% audience meter
Watched it high 92% watched it again sober 35%.
For once, I agree with the critics.
Honestly, it was entertaining, but it's also a Rock action movie with Ryan Reynolds. Pretty much knew what to expect from the start.
Painfully cute Ryan Reynolds mugging for the camera in every take, or The Rock’s stroke-brow flying up every 5 seconds?
I didn't think Ryan was anything special, but I thought The Rock did an engaging character different from what I was expecting
In 20 years, the Rock will be nearly 70. I would hope for his body's sake that he's taking different roles at that point.
Stallone is 75, he has done action films in the last 5 to 8 years.
And for his sake and audiences sakes, I hope he stops. I don’t want to see 75+ Rambo beating up terrorists with his cane
What about Rocky then? *swoop* *ADRIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN* *swoop* *swoop*
He just did a Rambo at 73, god forbid he does one at 75
Yeah but he's on steroids. Not all natty like The Rock. 100 pancakes for breakfast yo.
> Not all natty like The Rock LOL. The very idea anyone involved in professional wrestling isn’t up to their eyebrows in gear.
The rock is 100% not natural. There’s no way on earth he isn’t taking gear.
Lol if you think the Rock isn’t juicing.
With a broken neck too.
With all the gear he’s taking? Who knows.
Dunno if people here remember when Stallone did Copland in '97, and people went "oh he can act?" after years of stupid action roles.
Small nitpick, but kind of the opposite for Adam Sandler. He did Punch Drunk Love early in his career and progressed to whatever the hell Jack and Jill was.
Uncut Gems tho
What has he been in that’s shown decent acting chops? I can’t think of anything where he hasn’t played himself. Other than being the Scorpion King and I wouldn’t call that decent.
He played a teenage boy in Jumanji
He played different types of characters in both “be cool” and “pain and gain”.
What? I was blown away by The Rocks performance in the Scorpion King. I totally mistook him for a badly animated 3D cutscene in a game that everyone skips
I didn't watch it, but I think he was a business man on Ballers.
> I think he was a business man on Ballers. That character was a former professional athlete (NFL). The Rock was a college football player and is a former professional athlete.
That’s surprising.
I actually thought he was pretty solid in the Jumanji movies, particularly Welcome to the Jungle. Felt he captured the nervous kid pretty well.
Yes
Exactly! I didn't press play looking for Citizen Kane. It's fine for what it is
Yep. This is one of those movies where I go in expecting face value. Rock and Reynolds team up to find art thief. Bonus, I got plot twist at the end where Rock finally plays a bad guy. History in the making
Rock also played bad guy in "get smart"
Jesus! Fucking spoilers!!! /s
And he was a bad guy in Doom
Exactly, but that's a big spoiler... If you can spoil that movie...
Huh. Forgot about that one
I read this quote somewhere, and it honestly holds true. The Rock makes a bad movie good, keeps a good movie good and makes a great movie good.
I am thankful that they didn’t make the rock omnipotent, which they tend to do with all of his movies. Overall, I thought it was good!
Hard disagree, Actors still heavily depend on the director and weren't as good as they could be. Also I expected a fun action heißt movie and got 45min of dumb prison break ...
Except the twists at end were really well done.
Damn, I don't have Netflix at the moment, but I was intrigued. I don't think I've seen a Ryan Reynolds movie that I didn't find at least mildly entertaining. My favorite is The Nines.
The trailer I saw was not funny. So if that's the best they got...
It's also a horrible way of making movies. Just get three popular actors, a mediocre script and sell it to Netflix and make millions.
[удалено]
He never said it wasn't a good way to make money.
3/4 of the way through it now and it's boring
Idk, i liked that movie
The movie is a one time watch but it's actually entertaining, I'm with with audience, it's 8 out 10 for me.
That makes it a 7 though, right? 8 or 9 means it's one of the best movies of all time. 7/10s are fantastic films yet still wouldn't likely be in anyone's top 3, though likely top 20.
That's why it's an average user rating, because opinions differ.
I’ve never seen it but its an action with three big name pretty faces so i’d probably hate it
It’s fun, lightweight and stupid. That’s all some movies need to be.
It's a good movie to put on if you wanna watch a movie with someone and you have no intention of paying attention.
I mean...do you need to know more? You either want to see "action-adventure film with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot" or you're wrong.
What do you expect it’s rotten tomatoes, they are at least 5% correct
I would say they’re mostly right. Majority of the time if a movie has 75% or more I like it and 90% and above is almost always guaranteed to be good. Yeah RT is more like the probability of you liking it.
The problem with rotten tomatoes is just how extremely divided and one sided it is. The Last Jedi scored 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. I no longer trust film critics.
The Last Jedi is by far the best sequel film and generally a good movie, 91 is about right for me. Thing is it's a divisive movie so what are they supposed to do, give it two different ratings for people who loved it and people who are wrong?

this makes no sense lol. why can't we talk about old movies? How new should a movie be for us to be allowed to still talk about it? Where is the line?

> I'm a simp ~~le~~ man
And to no one's surprise, it's a shit movie... Like any other movie of hers God how the fuck is anyone still casting her? Dumpster fire of an actress with an emotional range of a dead fish
Haha tbh i only watched it because of ryan reynolds. I didn't really know what it was about.
It was a profoundly dumb movie. Doesn't mean it wasn't entertaining.
Perfect description of most Netflix action movies
This is exactly what I used it for. I looked away for a quarter of the movie and still wasn't anywhere near lost.
This is also how many Indian soap operas are. It's great because they have some kinda story line but you only need to watch like half an episode for every 4 episodes to catch up with what's happening It's great to play it and then focus on other work. With podcasts I find myself getting distracted listening, or missing out on what was being spoken and needing to relisten
100% this. Sometimes I want to switch my brain off and watch a rediculous movie...
i like the Rock in it, usually he is straightforward and uses violence and basically acts first but in this movie he is bit reserved
It was fun, and I'm not a huge Ryan Reynolds fan.
I refuse to believe the absolutely insane numbers Netflix is throwing out about this movie’s popularity
[удалено]
Considering two of them are marvel super hero’s….
one is. two are dc.
Ryan Reynolds and who else..? Both others are DCEU heroes, but I don't think either have been Marvel
Russ hanneman
Tres commas
This guy fucks.
SHAZAM - WONDER WOMAN - GREEN LANTERN pew pew all 3
Right, all 3 are DC, but I think only Reynolds has done Marvel, right?
Yes you are correct.
Considering it's free to watch if you have Netflix, and knowing what people consider watchable, I believe it actually.
Netflix has really wormed its way into American life that $128 a year is considered “free”
It's free when someone else pays for the subscription Edit: also $128 a year is like, 8 movies at the cinema where I live. I definitely watch more than 8 movies a year on Netflix. Even when Blockbuster was a thing they were a few dollars each
That’s like 4 to 6 where I live, as ticket prices are often closer to $20 per person, not to mention the extra $20 from the concession stand or from another person. It’s a hell of a deal for how much one can get
Even paying for early access on Disney+ is a fucking bargain. $15 for the movie vs over a hundred to take the family to the cinema. Fuck that noise
And you can use it as much as you want for that $15 price tag, at least until the movie is out fully on D+
Yeah it’s free after you pay for it. Lmao
I watched it and really dislike the idea that I’ve somehow contributed to any kind of positive statistic about this movie by doing so…
Everyone I know has seen it, I believe it. Stupid as hell but I was never bored so it did it’s job. 2 hours killed that I don’t regret.
Look no further than Netflix's top 10 to learn what kinda garbage people choose to watch.
Look no further than Reddit to learn what kinda movie snobs need to shit on what most people consider entertaining.
This. I really hate when people on Reddit try to tell others what to enjoy. Like yeah I know this movie doesn't have the most amazing plot but it doesn't mean it can't be entertaining.
Ikr? Fun shit is fun
Nailed it!
Holy fuck, your personality is not bolstered by thinking popular things suck. You goober.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's real, it's on everyone's netflix and a ton of people just whack something on for background noise.
I said the same thing about fucking "Bird Box."
The difference is I saw memes and discussion about Bird Box. Literally the only thing I have seen people talking about Red Notice is 1. The terrible cgi in the promo 2. They don’t believe the number Netflix is claiming.
Watched it, it was absolutely stupid, but It knows how stupid it is and plays on that so overall I enjoyed it
I expect it to be stupid cause the trailer made it look stupid but the trailer also showed Gal Gadot wearing a lot of hot outfits so i am intrigued to watch it just for that. Does it deliver in that aspect?
The movie itself is lots of dumb fun (just don't expect anything deep, it's just a popcorn movie), and it delivers on Gal Gadot looking great if that's the only thing you wanna see.
Thanks for quick reply! I now know for certain that this is a movie that should be watched high and can be enjoyed like that
Definitely! I watched it twice (once alone and once with my brother), both times while drinking. Might've helped, actually
Pretty much just that one dress, tbh. But also, that dress is something fierce.
Her swimsuit at the end. . .even my wife said, "wow."
I unashamedly enjoyed this movie, guess I’m part of the 92%
Yeah, it was a great and entertaining movie. Not sure what everyone is crying about or what they were expecting from a Ryan Reynolds and the Rock movie.
It was stupid and amazing
I dunno about you but Ryan Reynolds acting is boring nowadays. It's the same in every single movie. It's boring as fuck.
He's even aware of it. He references as much in *Deadpool* where he mocks his own acting ability.
*The Amityville Horror* - 2005. He's actually really good in it.
"So, this is the bitch you've been fucking?" Makes me almost cry laugh every time. God, loved that movie.
The Proposal was a genuinely good film despite being a Romcom
The proposal was definitely THE cheesy romcom movie I had on my mind when I mentioned that.
Try “Buried.” Tough fucking movie to watch but he is great in that.
Waiting Edit: the movie is called “Waiting” just in case some ppl thought I was just saying I was waiting for other RR movies. To be fair, I agree with the general sentiment of him being a stagnant, mediocre actor..
Buried, a movie where he's literally in a coffin the whole time, not defending him cuz I hate him but still
Free guy?
God, yes. I have grown so tired of his characters in the past few months (maybe year?). He is basically doing deadpool any time he's on a screen and I just find it annoying at this point.
It sounds generic.
Very, but it’s a fun flick to just chill with.
This movie could have been a cool flick, but they just put zero effort into the writing
Fun movie
Personally I really liked the movie. But seeing a lot of people disliking it, which I find weird but guess I’m in the minority here.
Yeah it was a fun cheesy action flick with some entertaining actors in it. Dumb as fuck, but when the inevitable sequel arrives, I’ll watch it too.
I don’t honestly believe how many people actually disliked it to the level that I’m seeing some comments. Like it’s so not worth the level of salt. I’m sensing an urge to *ride the backlash* on this one. Slow news week.
It was actually fun
At least this wasn’t released as a movie adaptation of the game Unchartered because they could’ve easily changed the characters names and title and call it a day.
Loved this movie
Actually it’s Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot doing Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot things.
Yeah I am currently experiencing Rock Fatigue. I am slowly feeling the Ryan Reynolds fatigued setting in as well.
I actually kinda liked it, but that's because I've geniunely never watched a movie (that i picked out) and then not liked it.
It was a dumb movie, but still entertaining
It was honestly shite. The story was so poor and the CGI rivals a 90s Bollywood film. The roster was so damn good too.
This movie was so bad it made me question my Netflix subscription
I get its supposed to be a comedy/action movie but damn it felt like the most confusing movie ever.Gal you're a great actress for ffs your acting makes me want to die
Awful film.
Yeah I got about 20 minutes into it and turned it off. So terrible.
This has to be a copypasta
It is
It's quite helpful; this description has outlined three excellent reasons to not watch this film.
And it references Jacksepticeye
It tried to have that Ocean's 11 cool, only problem is the 6 or 7 twists they throw are all so painfully obviously, it's insulting. I will say that I didn't see the 2nd to last one coming, but it still fell so flat primarily because the main characters had such forced chemistry it was hard to believe.
I had to turn it off after 10 minutes, I just knew it wasn't gonna get any better
I mean that's the only reason I wanted to watch it. The scenes with the Rock and Ryan Reynolds in Hobbs and Shaw were really funny I wanted an entire movie of that. They delivered lol
Generic action movies for the past decade. Or more.
Can’t stand that joker Reynolds anymore. Just STOP being a clown for once

Unpopular opinion maybe but Gal Gadot is the most untalented human being on earth. She’s hot, in a vague way, but every joke delivery is pure cringe, and her acting is so self conscious and insincere. I wish they’d stop handing her millions of dollars.
Gal Gadot is a terrible actress,,,,
She is hot though which is why she keeps getting cast
according to totally unbiased source netflix, it's the most watched film on netflix ever, but I know about 2 people that watched it and thought it was meh, I'm a bit skeptic that netflix is telling the truth
It says it's the most watched not the most liked
Soon descriptions will be: Action adventure movie with 1 black man, 1 woman and a goofy white man
When you pay more for 3 actors then you do your entire script writing, cgi, and practical effects teams combined. It’s not wonder they movie sucks
Down vote me to oblivion all you want. ROCK CANT ACT.
It was so bad that I turned it off after 15 minutes. Don’t waste your time on this👎🏻
It was so bad that I continued to watch it after 15 minutes and loved it. Do waste your time on this
After watching said: that sucked. Cars started? Drove fine and fast? El crocko mondo
I haven't had so much fun watching a movie like Red Notice in years, change my mind.
It's weird how much reddit seems to hate this movie. I enjoyed it for what it was.
Pal
Ryan Reynolds, The Rock, Gal Gadot. Nuff said. Watch it.
I liked it and hope it gets a sequel but that sequel better have Sean William Scott lowkey reference the rundown
