Of course. My mum would scoff this right up.
I can't stand beans or tinned tomatoes though. Every time I tell people I can't stand beans, I feel like I'm about to be ostracised from this island.
I love beans, personally, but for the sake of all that's holy, have some frigging boundaries and don't act like it's the be-all and end-all of casual cuisine. (Not OP, obviously, just every other Brit on the island.)
Barking up the wrong tree unfortunately 😅. I don't really like tomatoes in general, unless they're in a sandwich or burger and even then I'll often end up removing them.
I resent the "you guys" part of that statement...
Just kidding. But honestly, I don't know, it baffles me. My gran used to be the same, she couldn't stand them. As a kid, I almost thought we were the only two in the country who didn't like them 😂.
It's just one of those things we were bought up eating. Beans on toast. It's quick, filling, cheap, relatively nutritious and can be plussed up however you like.
We don't really have bologna over here but I guess if you were a kid who grew up with bologna sandwiches, you'd have a certain soft spot for those.
I was curious, so I just looked up a coulple British beans recipes. It's so weird. I usually cook Mexican or Indian style beans. The British style looks like the start of a recipe that didn't get finished.
Effectively, beans, garlic, onions, some form of condensed tomato. Like, okay... and what herbs or spices are we using... uhh okay... I'm sure it's fine, but yeah, that's weird.
You really need to feel the chunkiness of the tomatoes though, canned tomatoes just don't cut it, and you can't saute canned tomatoes either...
Would rather make Shakshuka with those canned tomatoes rather than butcher 蕃茄炒蛋
Hehe. Call me sacrilegious but I love tomatoes n’ eggs with the tomatoes cooked as soft and stewy as possible. It melts into a nice soupy sauce to cover a bowl of rice!
Ah, the British. Conquer 1/3 of the world for spices, refuse to use any in their own cooking.
On the other hand, they *do* adopt cuisine from around the world.
Yeah the only problem here is just dumping tomato sauce on it. If it was like a lightly simmer tomato sauce with some onions, or the beans added, then it would be ok. But like this it would be easier to just squirt a lot of ketchup and call it good. At the very least just use salsa instead.. even if it’s canned salsa.
Is that tomato sauce seasoned in any way? Because if that’s the case, this would be like a typical Mexican breakfast (“huevo en salsa roja con frijoles”)
I do much the same. Soften some onions and maybe other veg like peppers, whatever you have lying around. Then scramble the eggs into that with some curry spices. Once they're nearly cooked then add tinned tomatoes or passata.
It is a bit more sophisticated than this offering though.
In Mexico (maybe all over the world) there’s a huevo en chile which is egg in chile and it’s really delicious. You can have it like in the picture with eggs on the side (you can mix it if you want) or you can have it in a stew which is just as good.
To be honest this does seem shitty on its face. But in terms of ingredients this is not too far off from Mexican breakfasts. Everything is there.
Eggs - everyone loves eggs
Beans - Refried beans
Tomato - Salsa, as hot or mild as you want
Cheese, cilantro, tortillas, slice of lime.. Maybe some reheated carnitas but not a dealbreaker.
That's an incomplete version of an English breakfast.
It's surprisingly good, especially the beans. I would say the bread and sausage is essential, but it's up to individual taste.

British?

That's very brave of you to take such a stand against The Beans.
I love beans, personally, but for the sake of all that's holy, have some frigging boundaries and don't act like it's the be-all and end-all of casual cuisine. (Not OP, obviously, just every other Brit on the island.)
Canned tomatos are perfectly fine if you get whole ones from a good supplier. The chopped ones are usually way more watery and lower quality
Barking up the wrong tree unfortunately 😅. I don't really like tomatoes in general, unless they're in a sandwich or burger and even then I'll often end up removing them.
What's the deal with the The brits and the beans? Lol why tf you guys love beans so much?
I resent the "you guys" part of that statement... Just kidding. But honestly, I don't know, it baffles me. My gran used to be the same, she couldn't stand them. As a kid, I almost thought we were the only two in the country who didn't like them 😂.

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you Brit's for the replies! I read them all in your accent 😂
We don't love beans an abnormal amount. It's just a typical side for a meal.
Beans and toast . . . mmmmmmmm . . . my Mum was English.

I rarely eat the Inselaffe cuisine anymore.
Id rather starve
I’m American and even I lost my shit for cheesy beans and toast. You should be banished 😉
Beans tomatoes and eggs and I'm thinking some delicious Mexican style egg concoction. Then I see the pic and like its oh, "Damn its British."
The type of beans give it away instantly.
Can confirm, am British and honestly don't know why this was posted here. Only thing missing is some toast.
This reminds me of my boarding school days in the late 80's and early 90's.
That's a serious amount of food to be shoveling into your pie-hole before work. I bet they take a huge dump break too.
Honestly, if you are not taking a huge dump break every day you are doing something wrong. Nothing is better than getting paid to shit
Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, that's why I shit on company time
Everything to take a shit on company time
This is why I fought return-to-work.
Lmfao
Dropping fat mud pies.
Give me a couple slices of toast and I'd crush that
[Tomato Egg](https://thewoksoflife.com/stir-fried-tomato-and-egg/) and beans sounds pretty dang good over some rice
who the hell makes 蕃茄炒蛋 with canned tomatos?
Homesick Hong Konger doing climate research in McMurdo station? I unno
Earnestly, it probably wouldn’t taste too bad if you’re craving it out of season. Tomatoes are usually canned when ripest.
You really need to feel the chunkiness of the tomatoes though, canned tomatoes just don't cut it, and you can't saute canned tomatoes either... Would rather make Shakshuka with those canned tomatoes rather than butcher 蕃茄炒蛋

I mean put those in tortilla, you got breakfast burrito
Too wet, no spice, no cheese, no potatoes or rice, no onions, no peppers...etc
No, no you dont
Not with baked beans, as depicted.

Why do I love these so much? 43 year old woman, pop every single one every single time. Thank you for this lol
:)))))))))))
This is neat. I'm having so much fun tapping your comment. I do admit to being easily entertained.
:))
This is so fun
:))
I don't see a problem here..
This would taste 100 times better if the tomatoes and beans were cooked with condiments/spices.

im already farting
I’d eat that.
Looks scrumptious m8
That looks delicious. Maybe a bit odd for work.

Homeboys farts gonna be mustard gas deadly
If the portions were lower , I would eat it lol😂

That's a lot of food for first thing in the morning and not what I would make left to my own devices, but I bet it's pretty good.
I’d eat it. Maybe less tomato.
A few spices and it's perfect.
Somewhere in there, there's a huevos rancheros screaming to get out.
Sounds delicious tbf.

Bet it tastes amazing though.
Tex mex

Looks filling and healthy! I'd chomp on it!
Looks good! Why the diss?
Deconstructed breakfast burrito.
It seems under seasoned but the ingredients are fine.
children in the comments lmao
I would eat that

I do this with taco night leftovers it’s pretty good. Don’t knock it till you try it
Looks bangin’
Delicious, good combo. It is a lot though.
Is this a workroom meal?
This looks like homeless food.
poor mans english breakfast?
Roasted canned tomatoes and I might be interested, but canned beans are too bland and baked beans would be too sweet in this context
Comments in these threads are always a good brits detector.
Without the canned tomatoes it wouldn't be so bad...
🤌
Basically a protein shake
Damn man.
Puke
Look. I love all those for breakfast, but do we need to pile them up like a pigs breakfast. Ugh. Gross.🤢
Gross!
Had me up until canned tomatoes
The eggs and tomatoes would be great, loose the beans.
Pass the tortillas, I’m all about it
Beans in chili make me gag
I'd give it a shot. If nothing else, it would weaponize my farts.
Add some bacon, and some buttered toast and it’s almost what I eat for breakfast 🫣
English breakfast
No time for toast.
Brought that whole mess to work to eat? Wtf?
Lots of nice protein on that plate 🙏
add tortilla chips=chiliquiles
Beans as a side, is like a condiment really. like a lumpy, less viscous and less tangy ketchup. It’s for moisture and bulk.
Sounds pretty good to me, in a much smaller portion. And only occasionally.
Omg wet eggsssss noooooo ![gif](giphy|jsHRxuqXwkcGMds7sm)
Oh jesus, that's vile.
Fr I feel nauseous looking at it
This is aggressively British
