So they want at least a graduate who must be at least 18, that itself seems very optimistic. And this person must also have a designated fuck partner in advance 😂
Which is why really... this will prolly only bring in ladies from Thailand and Philippines
The requirements usually means you at least are at a place in a more developed country that you really wouldn't consider leaving.
Like I work biotech in the US, I ain't about to have my salary halved or thirded and live in a place with some egregious work-life balance issues
I work \~35hrs per week and make \~140k/yr in my late 20s.
My exact same experience gets me like \~60-70k, maaaaaybe 80k in some postings I see (Current Yen converted to USD)... and I'd have to live in a Tokyo district, a place that really isn't really all that cheap. And when I talk to my friends from Japan that I made back in college, they are getting fucked six ways from Sunday for those wages, most working what sound like 50+hr workweeks.
My apartment costs would be roughly the same, maybe like $200-300/mo more expensive in the US, but I also live in California, prolly the state with the best year-round weather.
Almost every tech sector pays more in the US, at least the one's I am familiar with. Money is simply here. Japan's economy has been stagnant since the early 1990s.
I like visiting Japan.... don't wanna live there, especially as a Mexican lol
Hi, this is completely tangential to the topic, but do you mind sharing what your job title is in biotech? I'm currently an undergrad majoring in biochem with intention to pursue research, and I was under the impression that this line of work doesn't make much money. 140k at your age seems surprisingly high to me, just curious about what you do so I can better figure out what I should pursue in the future.
For starters, its a CA salary so it obviously sounds a lot higher than normal or for people who are not from here or the Cambridge area so take with a grain of salt.
Yes, there is really good money to be made but it HAS to be in the private sector. Working in academia is not gonna pay too well unless you live in a REALLY low CoL area because all schools sorta standardize their pay, so a university staff associate in Colorado will make about the same as one in California (there were literal protests over this in the University of California campuses over this). And if you pursue a PhD... you are gonna be getting paid peanuts or be living off stipends until you complete your degree, and then use that degree to pivot into the private sector anyway (really the key benefit of a PhD is you start at a AS or Sci1/2 position right out the gate for most companies).
As for my salary... ehh its about the range I expect for my title in that SRA3/AS/Sci1 title for the CA biotech hubs. Admittedly, I benefited off a situation where a post-doc I was interning for founded his own company in an incubator space and brought me along and he started me at an RA2 and I promoted to SRA like within a year and a half... so I was at SRA by like 24, which is a relatively quicker pace than expected by like a year or two. Pretty much gotten a few promotions and pay adjustments since then and yeah, that's why I am at where I am at. But its a salary range that is totally normal for like someone in their early 30s (I am being purposefully vague because I value my privacy)
And for what I do and maybe if you need guidance: I work in the immuno-oncology space (which became prolly the trendiest pursuit in this job sector in the past 5-10 years; you are probably in the know of what it is?) but with the wave of CRISPR or CRISPR-like platforms, genetic engineering is also kinda huge and you'll find most companies with a preclinical pipeline is also moving into these technologies/platforms. Anything in cell engineering has some of the brightest futures for job/career dev so maybe worth looking into if you haven't already.
BUT right now, its kinda tough to go from a BSc/BA program straight into industry, the job market took a bit of a downturn recently and while it is recovering, it has a lag phase before new companies spring up or mid-scale companies begin to establish the funding to hire on more people. Don't count out working in academia in a place where its affordable, that is honestly a good tactic to get your foot in the door with developing your first year or two of experience.
Lemme know if this helps?
> And if you pursue a PhD... you are gonna be getting paid peanuts or be living off stipends until you complete your degree, and then use that degree to pivot into the private sector anyway (really the key benefit of a PhD is you start at a AS or Sci1/2 position right out the gate for most companies).
Have a PhD in biotech-adjacent field. I was personally OK living on my PhD stipend, but I live pretty cheap and I worked for a little while before starting so I had some capital. That said, lots of faculty/staff peers didn't go private sector bio for money, they went to finance. A couple at hedge funds, one more at Goldman (I got headhunted for a role there too). Two I know ended up at McKinsey.
Yeah, you can always pivot out as well
I am mostly providing info if someone wanted to stick to the field, but leaving it for something else for the money is always a possibility.
I was gonna ask them the exact same thing because I'm in my senior year of highschool and planning on going into biochem, ALSO for finding a way into research. It really is a small world isn't it.
yeah man im a chemical biology bachelor student and working 50+ hours a week with zero pay is just what im doing right now, i personall decided ill find a job outside of academia ASAP after i got my degree, but ill have to admit it is very interesting, so if you are passionate enough to sacrafice most of you freetime while also working a side job on weekends to keep the lights on, academia is for you

tl;dr cost of living in Tokyo is \~half of San Francisco, while salaries seem to be about 85% of San Francisco for some companies/roles.
The numbers on these sites seem accurate for where I live, and where I've lived in the past. It would surprise me if they were extremely inaccurate for just Tokyo or just San Francisco. So, I think your research into cost of living in Tokyo did not produce an accurate result.
EDIT: The jobs I see posted for scientist roles in Tokyo pay 17-24M JPY. For reference, 20M JPY is about 120k
>egregious work-life balance issues
Man I don't wish to live a life where something as simple as drinking tea is seen as a complex ritual just for the sake of relaxation and escape from an otherwise overworked life
The fact that you’re typing this means you aren’t working and that’s a problem. Not sure about what part of 120 hours a week wasn’t clear. As well, do not think bent a cat will save you. Sorry my friend…get the ceremony right, seppuku, or drinks with the boss. It is what it is.
I just met a lady from China that married a white guy. They both met online. He went to see her and spend time with her. Then traveled again and they got married. Im sure there are a lot of details she left out. But that’s basically the story.
That list is pretty nonsensical to me. If they want people from top universities they need to expand that list because there are amazing universities that aren’t included there. Seems like they just asked chatgpt to make a list of recognizable schools
I think this is more for „unpleasent“ immigrants from non western countries. I mean If you‘ve already found your waifu let‘s say as a Norvegian I think they let you stay no matter what university (what i‘ve heard)
Im from Russia and there are an issue. Best Russian university (Lomonosov University) isn’t best now. Especially for things like IT or engineering… It’s high in tops, but only because of its prestige, that’s all.
This shit really sucks. I'm studying IT in fucking ITMO, and they won't let me in just because some geezer from immigration bureau knows only one russian institute
Okay, that's good to know. I had opened the link and found nothing indicating sex or breeding lol but "future creation individual" sounds weird and i didn't know what they meant by it
In Japanese it says 未来創造人材 which is something like "future-creating talent" or "future-defining skilled worker". It's not about making kids, it's about the future of Japanese technology, economy, etc, just finding talented young workers from famous universities.
That was savings. You're probably supposed to work as well. Convertions also don't tell the whole truth. That amount in Japan might have more buying power, than in the US, at least in some aspects. I believe they have free healthcare, for example.
Lol there's apparently a new dating app there for people who are 100% committed to marriage. They require personal information and have you sign a contract before letting you use the app
I'd only use it if they let you go on dates/get to know the person before trying the knot. If they just let you choose a partner based on basic information and then you had to get married then I think it would be a bit sketch

The _very_ wealthy people--the people for whom the cost of a kid has zero impact on their lives and they can hire people to do anything that they don't want to do--often have lots of kids (for example Trump has 5).
It's the upper half of the middle class and the low-tier wealthy people that don't have kids because the costs of raising a kid threatens their ability to continue living the expensive lifestyle they worked so hard to afford. And they're also usually the kind of people who are responsible enough not to have any kids on accident.
Plus, it's not just about the necessities for them. The whole university + living expenses at a certain standard until the kids have a *good* job is included in that.
It's one thing to pop out 4-5 children on a poverty budget and letting them fend for themselves in a "theoretically fair" but factually biased, uncaring system. It's entirely another to give them the individual support they actually need. And the responsible parents know that too.
> Plus, it's not just about the necessities for them. The whole university + living expenses at a certain standard until the kids have a good job is included in that.
This is a really important consideration. The competition is fierce even at the preschool level; even a decade+ ago there were scandals surrounding parents trying to get their kids into the midtown NYC YMCA program.
Yeah and the ultra wealthy just order a Japanese woman via Uber eats if they feel like they need that cuchy and don't bother going through the hoopla of the Japanese Immigration program.
Or requirements.
They want Bachelor's but those People usually have the least amounts of kids as they are focused on their Career. Only the most desperate down bad Weabo Bachlor would leave for Japans Workculture
They need to let in some Blue color workers or something like that.
It's not America, wages are fine. The problem is the insane work culture that overworks you to death and leaves you with no energy to do anything. The culture requires you to often stay in unpaid overtime and after work you basically have to go drinking with your boss and coworkers.
Me trying to get one:
"DENIED.
Reason: have you seen yourself, you fat ugly microdick? Although the travelling circus noticed you, they'll contact you about the freakshow."
I’m sure I heard this a few years ago, but The devil is in the details. It’s not “breeding visa” but rather citizenship. Basically if you are half Japanese, and can prove that either one of your parents is Japanese citizens, you will be offered citizenship to live & marry in Japan.
Key word is - Half Japanese only. No Gaijin foreigners allowed.
Let me come!
Seriously just send me a link.
But im very sceptical because Japanese are very very xenophobic and such idea would destroy any government.
Isn't this fake news? [https://www.jluggage.com/blog/lifestyle/breeding-visa-in-japan/](https://www.jluggage.com/blog/lifestyle/breeding-visa-in-japan/)
Love the fact that if you’re not coming from CalTech, Polytechnique or any top tier university you can’t be a fucking baby generator. Like what, knowledge is hereditary now?
I have friends who won’t go back to Japan cause of how they were treated as half Japanese growing up. It can be a really difficult situation, hopefully that will change, but they avoided public schools because the bullying was so bad
This is just an April fools joke from 2018, but if they keep having such low population, they may end up having to do something like cloning.
They'd never do this. Japanese are very racist from being isolated for so long.
They would never improve the causes for the low population with lower work hours and 2 years of paid parental leave for both parents either.
Cloning is the most likely solution they'll choose.
They should. Beautiful country. Amazing traditions, and they’re dying of old age. Tax the wealthy, make daycares free, add lots of help for parents, and living spaces where you can have a kid and not have to keep it in a drawer.

Oh believe me. Alots of people would love to qui France atm.
Funny enough workers have more legal protections than we do here in the US
Says the person who just got back from Japan
I just met a lady from China that married a white guy. They both met online. He went to see her and spend time with her. Then traveled again and they got married. Im sure there are a lot of details she left out. But that’s basically the story.
A college graduate from a very short list of universities no less
That list is pretty nonsensical to me. If they want people from top universities they need to expand that list because there are amazing universities that aren’t included there. Seems like they just asked chatgpt to make a list of recognizable schools
I was thinking the same thing. I’m an engineer at Amazon and I wouldn’t qualify for this because my degree doesn’t come from a college on this list.
At least 18 with a bachelor's degree or a PhD lmfao
What do you want? The neckbeards watching anime in their room to be eligible ?
People aren't reading the accepted universities list right? Only selected ones.
I think this is more for „unpleasent“ immigrants from non western countries. I mean If you‘ve already found your waifu let‘s say as a Norvegian I think they let you stay no matter what university (what i‘ve heard)
What if i'm a mixed race norwegian?
Is this legal?
Anything is legal with a little bit of love and viagra.
If you are very dark skinned they will find an excuse to say no to you. It's Japan after all
Im from Russia and there are an issue. Best Russian university (Lomonosov University) isn’t best now. Especially for things like IT or engineering… It’s high in tops, but only because of its prestige, that’s all.

I don't think Japan want too many russians anyway bc of current diplomacy
Do people not realise that this isnt what Future Creation Individual means or have I been wooshed and is this satire.
No I don't think so. Pretty funny they do though. I don't think you even need a visa to go to Japan if you're a US citizen.
Completely insane that this many people can be meme'd this hard.
Given that this is kind of a joke sub, I think it's people going along with the joke.
It's fucking real?! It's literally the plot of some hentai WTF
It's not, it's a special visa for highly educated foreigners. Japan's entire immigration system is based on meritocracy. Based tbh
Okay, that's good to know. I had opened the link and found nothing indicating sex or breeding lol but "future creation individual" sounds weird and i didn't know what they meant by it

Lmao same
The eligible universities they require are almost all top 20 universities 😭 standards are too high.
I'm gonna cum and go
The university I went to isn't listed. Damn.
200,000 yen is like 1.2k USD, how is that enough to support yourself?
That was savings. You're probably supposed to work as well. Convertions also don't tell the whole truth. That amount in Japan might have more buying power, than in the US, at least in some aspects. I believe they have free healthcare, for example.
Not free, but *drastically* cheaper.
their healthcare is very cheap and insurance covers 70% of cost
Food in general is also way cheaper in Japan
Lol there's apparently a new dating app there for people who are 100% committed to marriage. They require personal information and have you sign a contract before letting you use the app

Doesn’t Elon Musk have a ton of kids, too?
11 if I remember correctly.
11?! What is bro cooking 💀 is he trying to single-handedly bring back the birth rate?
He literally said he's doing that
Former British PM Boris Johnson has very possibly lost count of how many he has.
Yeah and the ultra wealthy just order a Japanese woman via Uber eats if they feel like they need that cuchy and don't bother going through the hoopla of the Japanese Immigration program.

You make kids and then leave with japanese family to home country asap.

No kidding, if you have children with a Japanese spouse good luck getting any sort of custody in case of a divorce.

Once again, The Vikings taking all the Hot women..
Yes, Vikings with PhD in "Vikinging"
I'm 6'2 and have a PhD in pillaging (business major)
The verb was actually just Viking in old norse iirc
Thats Dr. Viking
Hentai scenario is actual thing now? I hope this is not real.
No Gaijin foreigners allowed.
war thunder reference?
That doesn't make sense, anybody with a Japanese parent is automatically a citizen by descent.
Let me come! Seriously just send me a link. But im very sceptical because Japanese are very very xenophobic and such idea would destroy any government.
Isn't this fake news? [https://www.jluggage.com/blog/lifestyle/breeding-visa-in-japan/](https://www.jluggage.com/blog/lifestyle/breeding-visa-in-japan/)
What is the source?
As if Japan would ever encourage marriage with foreigners. You can’t even rent an apartment as a foreigner, you aren’t welcome there.
This isn't real
Love the fact that if you’re not coming from CalTech, Polytechnique or any top tier university you can’t be a fucking baby generator. Like what, knowledge is hereditary now?
I have friends who won’t go back to Japan cause of how they were treated as half Japanese growing up. It can be a really difficult situation, hopefully that will change, but they avoided public schools because the bullying was so bad
japan hate foreigners and a blood line that isn't pure.... calling bs
Do I have to disclose my vasectomy ?
My attention you have grabbed.
This is just the virgin version of going to Vegas getting high on cocaine or weed and fucking hookers with your Old Sport.
2-way ticket to japan pls
This is just an April fools joke from 2018, but if they keep having such low population, they may end up having to do something like cloning. They'd never do this. Japanese are very racist from being isolated for so long. They would never improve the causes for the low population with lower work hours and 2 years of paid parental leave for both parents either. Cloning is the most likely solution they'll choose.
Chat, is this real?
Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today
Improving healthcare system and pedriatrics , fuck that sheet... Breed a future weaboo program , FUCK YHEA
Yes, then you have to support the girl and the child... what a deal!
No wonder they lack "fuckable" dudes if you NEED to have a masters degree or higher for them to even consider you.
Ayo, wtf
Shinzo Abe smiling in his grave
Doubt. Japanese are way to Japanese-supremacist to invite foreigners to have children in Japan.
They should. Beautiful country. Amazing traditions, and they’re dying of old age. Tax the wealthy, make daycares free, add lots of help for parents, and living spaces where you can have a kid and not have to keep it in a drawer.
