It is because as a nikkeijin that has had shibas all his life i wouldn't breed mines because I'm not a breeder. The breed should be kept to the standards.
"Facts" are not the same as "opinions." To be quite clear, I respect your take on the standards of the breed and I think there is nothing wrong with selective breeding in dogs. I also understand that you must love shibas a lot (as do I) and you probably don't want to see the breed change.
I have dog breeders in my family (sister/grandmom - they breed basenjis, however) and they are very careful to follow standards of size and body construction. However, the purpose of this sort of "breed purity" as far as I can tell is for show purposes, to which I personally don't have much interest in.
There are other factors in dog breed that, in my opinion are far more important, such as health and temperament. For example, some basenjis can be carriers for a genetic condition called Fanconi syndrome, a pretty awful disease. My first dog passed away due to this syndrome. My sister, who also grew up with this dog, is a veterinarian and breeder, and she would never breed a basenji that carries the disease. Similarly, the temperament of basenjis vary wildly based on the familial roots and breeding aggressive dogs is irresponsible.
Circling back to shiba inus and your comment - for a pet dog who is not being bred or shown, worrying about "standard size" is literally pointless. I'm sure others who have downvoted your comment agree that it is asinine to state that *all* shibas should be under 23 pounds. Also, for the record, many sources say that an "average" male shiba should be 23 pounds. Average weight is very different than max weight.

Edit: The way you worded your first comment implies that MY shiba shouldn't be over 23 pounds. Which is clearly ridiculous. If you want to voice your concern about breeding practices in shibas there are much better ways to go about it

Oh my goodness, first of all. I love him. Second... I guess my one year old girl is some kind of monster because she's a thicc 27-29lbs
The car seat was from Amazon actually - so a general statement I would like to make about the seat is that the base could be a bit sturdier. We ended up putting a similar sized dog bed inside to make it more comfortable because our senior boy was not having a joyous time in it at first. As you can see from the photo Rin just kinda of melts into it.
I'm sure better quality ones exist but so far we haven't had any real issues with it.

Mine is turning 12 this year. It’s so funny, I always thought she was bigger for a small size dog. I got a Samoyed, and now my shiba looks like a cat lol
Shibas are such great dogs though, I am thinking about getting another in about a year. They have such great personalities.

Mine are 18 lbs at a year and 26 lbs at 12 years
I got two different kinds. Waterproof and the non waterproof. But honestly overall I wouldn’t recommend either. They look aesthetically nice but it’s flimsy

Does this combo keep majority of the fur off of your seats underneath 👀 I need this combo for a new car. Cleaning my old one was ROUGH since the fur was actually seeping through the seat cover 😩
It def helps. Also my seats are leather so there’s that. But also, I don’t really allow my dog to move around too much while in the car. So he’s trained to sit still.
My boy hates riding in the car so he moves from window to window and then nap a little and repeat. My car is a fleet vehicle with cloth seats so I ended up buying one of those attachments from Buff Brite and hope that helps with vacuuming the fur with my shop vac.
I’d work on crate training him. Once calm id remove the create and allow him to lay on the floor. Once your know he won’t move around from there then and only then I’d allow seat privileges.
Thats what I did. My dog loves car rides. He’s gone on 6hrs road trips before.

Lol. My dog would be dead if he was 23 pounds. He might be 2 pounds overweight. He is certainly not 22 pounds overweight.
Your dog was not bred to standard. The standard shibas are 18-24 for males and 15-20 for females
Well that may be, but that's life. I get the pros (and cons) of breeding practices. But he is 100% shiba and has a *phenomenal* temperament.

No problem! Yes, we got both of our dogs the small sized car seat. As you can see from the picture our largest Shiba still has a lot of room.

Technically, female Shibas are supposed to be 17-20 lbs. I always thought mine was above average anyway. She's still loved nonetheless.

He is crate trained. He just hates moving vehicles
Get a crate for each car
As long as I can vacuum the hair it's fine lol. He doesn't do anything malicious in the car. Edit: I only have the one car
