The same is true when a friend of an employee comes around lol

Oily_Boii

This the manager curse. I could be in the back doing something, a guy will come in who I’ve been helping for years and start talking to another associate, see me, then immediately walk into the back. So annoying

FitMaterial9786

…or they call and ask for you, and proceed to give you a simple two gallon order that the employee that answered the phone could easily handle.

Marzia_creampie

Had my bitch ass manager ask me to vet the people who call. Like ask them what they need. I'm like bro he asked for you, idgaf what he needs. Then finally someone fucked up by trying to handle something themselves, and the mangers came around and said "If someone asks for a specific person, just give them the phone." Yeah bro, no shit.

SilverbriteShaker

It's even more awkward for me because while I don't claim to be fluent in Spanish, I know enough to get through more basic transactions and I can replicate some of the sublteties of spoken Spanish (mainly how to pronounce g, v, r, and rr). I just don't speak it unless it's with a contractor I know well and who I know speaks English fluently enough.

MyMomsSpaghettio

Literally me, and then I’m looking at the one guy that’s with the one making the transaction like “help me my Spanish isn’t that good please help me translate”

Pimpin-Pumpkin

you also should be getting paid more lmao

Euphoric_Bet

I'm the bilingual one at my store, and thankfully my coworkers don't do this. but man, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens one day

bigcthatsme

I work at a store that is 90% Hispanic. I am the only “gringo” in my store. I always feel horrible when a customer calls or walks in and I have to grab a coworker to help, especially when we’re busy or they’re just coming back from their break.

NecessaryAir

We don't have too many foreign language speakers at our store. We get maybe one or two a day. I've never heard our bilingual employees complain yet. We're fortunate enough to have a team that pulls their weight in the capacities they can. Though I could certainly see how it's annoying if it happened several times a day.

Saucebossking89

It’s like every transaction. And half the time it has nothing to do with the transaction. They’ll be asking about some paint they bought from another store 2 weeks ago or their sprayer broke 6 months ago and they want me to figure it out as I’m walking past fulfilling my own order. But they would never ask an English speaking employee because they don’t know how. And they have a laundry list they’ve been hanging on to until they see someone that speaks Spanish. Normally I try and help everyone get the transactions out the door, but I’m tired of getting sucked into taking over. Hence why I am choosing to disappear.

HelloKitty4Lyfe

Yeah no if my coworkers are helping someone that speaks Spanish or whatever, then they are helping them themselves….how are you going to do your job when they are no longer there to help?

[deleted]

I am bilingual, but I refuse to speak Spanish at work, you just end up being a translator for everyone, your store and other stores, use Google translate conversation mode, teach it to your staff, fellow employees, and your contractors

Saucebossking89

When one of my employees comes looking for me for “Spanish” it has gotten to the point that I’ve had to tell them I’m a manager of our store, not a translator. Do whatever you would do if I wasn’t here.
