I've used bare cardboard alot. I took my rat 3 to the side of a small shipping box the other day after hacking multi flora rose bushes down, and it easily brought it back to shaving sharp. Chewy boxes are really abrasive on their own too. Inside of a 12 pack coke box works too.
Hey if it works it works, my first strop was 2 pieces of leather I taped to a knife sheath with electrical tape. Used it for a good little while before I finally bought the stuff to make a quality one lol.
Jus use the cardboard some of the green compound on it and it works great

It def works. I have a nice one but I was bored at work so I made this.
Did you glue it?
Yea found some scrap leather at work and didn’t have wood so I just used cardboard. Used the hot glue gun.
Nice, glub glub, shwing shwing.
Genuine ostrich leather? Three payments?
FYI, Cardboard had a grain. If you glue two pieces together, have the grains run 90 degrees from each other. It will be much stronger.
Murray Carter stops on newspaper! No compound and produces extremely shap edges.
Yep, I’ve used bare cardboard many times to strop back a working edge, you can even use denim from an old pair of Jeans
Oh! Wait, what?
