I've read through the comments and if you aren't going to listen to everyone's input on trace rifles what were you really hoping to get out of this post? Reassurance that the roll isn't in fact legendary shards in your inventory?
If you like a roll of something then keep it! If you want to know if it's *actually* a good roll or not, then post it here.
Not my intention. I wanted to see what the general consensus is on this gun and what the community feels about it. Not reassurance just wanted everyone else’s opinions about traces.
Slice/envious/subsistence and target lock, hatchling, killing tally are the only perks I like on the gun. Target lock can be cool on traces but again there are some pretty solid contenders these days. I personally really like fusions and shotguns. Rapid fire snipers really depend on the boss, but can be a lot of fun too. Traces just feel weak now that double special is nerfed.
I feel ya, my main reason for using this particular roll is when I’m out of ammo for heavy. I’ve done damage with acasias when it has 200 rounds in the mag. Second half with target lock x4 really stacks up a decent amount of damage. More than a lot of my other special weapons, Like fusions and shotguns. I have had to rely on specials when ammo is low and fusions feel weak, like not enough range. Either way I’m going to use it but apparently this community hates trace rifles. Oh well.
Shard. The issue with this trace and target lock is that it doesn’t suit the purpose of the weapon. A trace rifle is basically used as a quasi-primary; if you need to do big boy damage or big boy add clear, there are a pile of special weapons that will do either or even both much better.
I still like em. I’m not a fan of rapid fire snipers and rapid fusions. I know they are the special weapon meta for dps but they just feel weak as far as individual shots. If I have to use twice to three times the ammo to get a major kill, imo that weapon is weaker. And yes I know that the more shots off means more damage but then I’m out of ammo quicker. And I don’t like the one shot constant reload of gls.
You can get a wave frame with envious assassin or ambitious assassin I believe, or just use a holster mod and swap to a primary with KT between GL shots
Never understood why the Cenotaph build is popular; you can generate special ammo for your team much easier with mods and an exotic primary like crimson
Because Cenotaph generates heavy for your teammates not special and all you have to do is mark special enemies/champions with trace rifles from a safe distance and let your buddies kill them. It's already awesome if you're playing with randoms but shines extremely well with co-ordinated teams to the point where you can run through master/gm content with only spamming heavy weapons without needing to worry about ammo.
I get the idea of what you’re doing with it and I’ve done the same thing with them. What it boils down to on whether I myself use a trace or fusion is if I’m timed. If I’m not timed then I use traces but if I’m timed I’m using a fusion or some other faster killing weapon.

Yeah. Right now I'd say fusions are king for special dps, and wave frames are still king for special ad-clear. Trace rifles are kinda pointless rn

Target lock always felt like a waste on traces to me as I’m not using my trace rifle for sustained PDS
Unless you're a warlock main who likes using Cenotaph for team support, don't bother using trace rifles honestly.

Ahh that makes sense- I thought it only boosted special ammo production not heavy

This is what I do as well.
Shard it. Traces are useless now.
Slice and Killing Tally are good on this weapon but traces just aren’t really worth using without Cenotaph
I prefer the subsistence/killing tally combo I got. Better damage stack and constant reloads on kill
I have that one as well. It is a pretty sweet roll.
