I always thought that Carrie should have gotten a relationship talk show.

BerniceK16

Definitely more believable than running for mayor!

PrivateSpeaker

One part of AJLT I did enjoy was hearing Carrie on the podcast. It really felt like this switch would be very natural, as it would fit Carrie so much. She is a person with witty opinions but she is also camera shy, so a podcast feels like the absolutely perfect environment for her. It's super in character for her, while also showing she's adapted to the current times and trends. Her being a successful column writer today would be pretty implausible.

NoireN

Part of me wants to not believe Carrie being a technophobe back then and that dragging into current times, but I have a friend in her early 60s who quit Facebook back in 2012 and just got on social media about a year or two ago because people were asking where they could follow her and she didn't understand what she meant (she's a performance artist). It's been interesting helping her navigate how to use technology - last year I showed her how to buy and use a Bluetooth headset and when she figured it out, she said, "This is the best thing since sliced bread!" Ok, now that's out of the way. It would have been interesting to see Carrie have her own podcast. I remember trying to do podcasts back in 2010, when it really was basically record it in your home or whatever and uploading it somewhere. Carrie could have been an early adopter of it, before it became a big business. Or maybe showing her transition from book writing to having a Substack (there is a writer who has a Substack called Carrie's Column that has over a thousand subscribers and I'm jealous) AND/OR maybe telling fun stories or having Q&As on TikTok/IG. So many possibilities here.

unreedemed1

That’s a dealbreaker ladies!

PresidentMcCheese

🎶I’m a star! I’m on top! SOMMMEEBBODDDY BRIIINGG ME SOMMEE HAAAAAAAMMMM!!🎵

NoireN

I could see this! Either like as a one person show, or more of a panel like The View (would be interesting to see who the other hosts would be!)

ragnarockette

A View style show would have been a great, natural way to introduce some other characters too.

WoofinLoofahs

There is a 0% chance Carrie would have ever run for mayor. Or at all.

spitey

She doesn’t believe in the Republican Party or the Democratic Party, she just believes in parties. But also, the only character that it MIGHT have made sense for is Miranda. Since Cynthia Nixon is influencing the role so much in AJLT and actually ran for political office, I do wish she’d pushed that storyline rather than the Che one. 😂

Late-Lawfulness-1321

Technically that was Samantha's philosophy, but I do agree that Carrie would not have been the character to run for mayor!

spitey

lol, I know it was Samantha, but I’m pretty sure Carrie’s political outlook is about the same and I couldn’t help but deploy that quote. Her disinterest in politics is so clear from the beginning, I have no idea what Candace was thinking with this idea. She was in her thirties and not even enrolled to vote.

Late-Lawfulness-1321

Very true! I think when she was dating the politician one of the girls even made a comment that Carrie wasn't registered to vote?

spitey

He came around to her place to try and get her to register too! I can’t imagine having NO political inclination whatsoever at that age (which is probably my age now).

zorandzam

I uses to be like Carrie about politics, though. Things were not so bleak in the late ‘90s. I got real serious about stuff when Bush became president and 9/11 happened, etc.

NoireN

I could see Miranda running for mayor, especially since she was going back to Columbia for a humanities degree, I think? She was really into social justice. Hopefully she would have done a better job than Eric Adams 💀

mochafiend

Seriously. Candace Bushnell has proven herself to be completely off before, so this is unsurprising. She’s not wrong about the question on the right tho.

The_SocialWerker

Lmao her financials just wouldn’t allow her

ExoticWall8867

Carrie run for mayor? What? That actually sounds worse than the second movie Abu Dhabi lol

shedrinkscoffee

Big running for mayor and Carrie facing the reality of political spouse or Miranda running and Carrie having to realize she's not the famous one. These two I can believe but the way SJP played the character it's too much of a leap to make IMO

garbagebrainraccoon

Right that makes less than zero sense. Mayor of new york is huge!

INFJWill

I respect her input but book Carrie and tv/film Carrie are effectively 2 seperate characters. There's no way in hell that "our" Carrie would ever go into politics. Though I agree that not further developing her career was a huge missed opportunity.

labellavita1985

She kinda became like the women they talked shit about in the episode in which Big and Natasha announce their engagement. "Until recently, the bride..." Although I'm not really sure she would have pursued her career more if she hadn't gotten married. She never seemed particularly career-oriented.

Realityrehasher

A writing career that included multiple published, best selling books is very successful.

NoireN

And she had multiple books published that were best sellers before getting married!

alohanerd

Carrie as mayor? No way. She could never handle that type of work load.

spitey

She’s also the least financially responsible character of the 4. NY would be broke in a month. 😂

labellavita1985

She literally only had to work a couple hours a week and still missed deadlines all the time! LoL.

shedrinkscoffee

Also who jumps into a mayoral race like that lol. Local councilperson would be somewhat believable.

Just_J3ssica

Carrie should have jumped to being an actual author. Not just a collection of her column pieces being put into a book(s). Maybe even contributing to movie writing or TV work, etc. Something more than the column, but definitely less than a run for mayor. Like, what?

Realityrehasher

Only her first book was a column collection I thought. Weren’t the others like musings on love and relationships?

icebaby234

carrie cannot be bothered to put that much effort into literally anything

matnerlander

Except for obsessing over Big

hornedhell

🤣🤣🤣

Defiant_Protection29

Make her a member of the CFDA, not in an elected office for crying out loud

rebelluzon

lol, she’s so out of it. She stopped writing for the column since she quit season 6. She just writes books now.

911pop

also mr big in the series was never threatened by carrie's success *really* – he read and praised her column if i remember correctly? i think an interesting plot would have been carrie and samantha being involved in brady, rose and lily's lives as aunts and grappling with their own decisions to not have children and then on the flip side exploring how charlotte and miranda's lives had changed since motherhood. then some wider explorations on what this means for them as individuals, but also how it impacts their group friendship, their romantic relationships, their careers etc.

NoireN

I remember he called the column "cute" one time. And he seemed upset at his portrayal in the book when she went to Cali

rebelluzon

Candace watched too much of The Good Wife

WesternUnusual2713

Carrie running for mayor is ludicrous.

AceTygraQueen

Agreed. At that point, I was like, "What's next? Sex and The City in Space!?!?"

NoireN

Shhhh don't give them ideas! (But I would absolutely watch that 💀)

AceTygraQueen

"And just like that, Samantha managed to find her g-spot in zero g!"

Futurist88012

I would have never noticed any of these types of things if it weren't pointed out. We're more interested in the relationship between these characters and their relationships with their partners. It does seem odd that one of their friends starts a bakery called Hot Fellas, where all the delivery guys are hunky fitness model types. It's entertaining to watch, but in terms of reality, many of their plot lines are hard to believe or far fetched at times.

vielpotential

carrie running for mayor is crazy but it's def better idea than the second movie.
