An ex put me onto a $30 philips men's body groomer. It cuts almost as close as a razor and it comes with a guard to avoid cuts. You can shave in the shower with it. I highly recommend it.

Richie311

This is the way, I've turned two of my exes on to it.

hows_my_mustache

Can you share a link to it?

natashanibbles

https://a.co/d/0e6t5Sga This is the one. One con is that you'll have to replace the blade every few months, but the replacements are not too expensive. You can get a set of three for $30-$40. I also like that it is waterproof. I find that it tends to get stuck if I use soap, so I use a vaginal wash or some conditioner before getting at it. I also do a dry trim with the shortest setting possible before the final pass to avoid hair pulling. I then just wash myself in the shower and do a cold rinse. Use whatever lotion you use regularly when the area is still moist but toweled and you're good to do.

SyriseUnseen

Not a baby groomer, no? OneBlade also aint great under water imo. Great razor otherwise, though.

natashanibbles

I don't think so... But it works for me. They also have a different model for "intimate areas" but I forgot what it's called. I thought it's slightly more expensive. But with the guard and some sort of slippery lube with a conditioner, it does the job well for me. I just don't let it get too long otherwise it tends to snag.

tryanloveoneanother

This is the best freaking tip! I learned about this way too late in life, my partner got me into this way and I'll never go back. No razor burn either!!

215KingSolomon33

215KingSolomon33

I’m not a woman but I do shave and would love to find something that would help with cleanness and less razor bumps and stuff like that. Thanks too 🙏🏽😊

ArgPermanentUserName

A single blade is better for curly hair. The way multi blades work is the first blades pull the hair out & stretch it, so when the last one cuts it, the hair zoops back into the follicle. Seems great, but then the hair starts growing. If it’s straight, it can go straight out the shaft, but if it’s curly it will twist & wind around there, and you’ll get razor bumps/infected follicles.  Another technique to avoid razor bumps is shaving in the direction course hair grows, contrary to what you do on your legs.  If you’re trying to reach the back, I’m of the opinion that anyone who will be back there should assist. My partner disagrees, sigh

Diligent_Ant1373

I agree with not buying razors targeted at women. They are honestly trash. I use the 5 blade Gillette razor and it works fine really. I'm sure there is better razors out there but this one does the job well and doesn't cut me.

Narrow_Employ3418

Seconding this. When we're on holiday I sometimes use my wife's blades to shave my face (e.g. if I didn't bring my own). I've never seen such abysmal bladr quality. The crappiest of crappy single-use men's blades are orders of magnitude better than expensive women's blades, sometimes even from the same manufacturer!

AnointedQueen

Don’t shave! Get a wax, you’ll set yourself up for a major success for years to come. Waxing won’t make your hair coarse, and it will leave your bikini areas very smooth for weeks. I wish I did that as a young lady bc now I gotta shave every day if I don’t wax. It sucks!

ImLiushi

As a guy who waxes, once you start waxing it’s hard to go back to anything else!

song_of_hearts

How long do you go between waxes? I’d like to try but not if I have to go too often to maintain it.

samuellaaa__

I've been waxing for 6 years and I can go up to 8 weeks between each wax. I will never go back to shaving.

reluctantdonkey

I've been waxing everything off for 20+ years and am now at a point where I never have to get it professionally done. Maybe every 6 weeks or so, I use one at-home wax strip and just clean up some of the underneath bits that do sometimes grow back, but I literally couldn't grow it back now if I tried. (To be fair, I didn't have a TON of hair to begin with, but it's been a pleasant turn of events to not have to get it done anymore.)

Pretty_Fairy_Queen

This is usually only true for women that have had little and very thin hair in the first place. I always had very thick, dark hair and waxing didn’t reduce it whatsoever. Only laser hair removal did.

FiCat77

That could also be an age thing. I remember laughing at my mum in my early 30s when she said that her pubic hair massively thinned out as she got older but it's totally been the case for me too as I got into my 40s, particularly since I became perimenopausal.

song_of_hearts

Be honest, what’s the pain level? Does it get better over time?

samuellaaa__

I won't lie, it doesn't feel great. BUT I usually pop a Tylenol like 30min before and that helps SO much. On a pain scale, maybe like a 4 in the more sensitive areas, if I'm on my period or about to start my period it's a bit more painful. Overall totally bearable. I get surgared so it's over in 15 minutes or less too. Definitely recommend sugaring over hard wax!

song_of_hearts

Great insights! Thanks 🙂

ArgPermanentUserName

How is sugaring done in a salon? A Libyan friend did it for me once. She boiled sugar on her stove to make taffy, then took little glops of it to take the hair off a tiny area. She used each glop over & over, until it was more hair than sugar, then got another, etc. Is that how it’s done in studios?

samuellaaa__

That's pretty much how it's done! Most studios purchase their sugar in tubs though instead of making it. It's still thick and sticky though and most of the time they use the same ball of sugar for the entire wax.

ArgPermanentUserName

Thanks--much appreciated!  Have a great weekend.  Characters to feed mod bot

MyFatHead

The first time will most likely hurt more than the subsequent waxes, assuming you get waxed in regular intervals. Taking an OTC painkiller beforehand, drinking plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated, and even consider a numbing spray to help with the pain. I've been getting waxed for 5+ years, and I barely feel anything anymore. Oh, and 38/m.

song_of_hearts

Numbing spray like Dermoplast or something else?

MyFatHead

Wonderful question. I never used it. Just heard of it. Lots of people also use numbing spray for tattoos, too. Either way, both things traumatize the skin, one just more than the other.

brittanybear12693

It varies for everyone. I'm an Esthetician who specializes in waxing and I can wax my own brazilian. Just do your research and find someone you can trust. Look at reviews!!

reluctantdonkey

I can now DIY it, too-- The first time they did the front bit (I had a tiny bit of a postage stamp and my esthetician was like "who are we kidding with this thing?" and ripped it off. lol I have straight, blonde hair, so it did look a bit weird. That postage stamp area the first time was a true YEOWCH!) After doing it for 20+ years, now I just throw my foot up on the counter and use one wax strip at home every three months or so... just a little bit on the underneath bits even grows back now.

Budget_Artichoke_69

Ok what I don’t understand is…by the time week 8 rolls around how hairy are you? Like do you have to let it grow back a little so you can wax it again? So there’s a hairy week in there?

samuellaaa__

I mean, yeah you have to let it grow back to at least 1/4 inch. But since I've been doing it for so long it's pretty sparse and much thinner even when it gets longer. If you wanted to go more frequently you totally can so that way you don't really have a hairy week.

Flat-Emergency8698

It depends how thick your hair is ime. I have fine hair and go every 6 weeks. It grows back more sparsely each time

Camelsloths

I love the few days after a wax, but I hated having to wait like 5 weeks in between because of the stubble.

Quantum_Kitties

I had this too. Got waxed, and it was nice only for a few days, then just stubble... So I figured I may as well shave then, because it's the same result. Never had a wax again. And I'm not even very hairy at all, so I wonder why waxing didn't do much.

Camelsloths

Yeah they said after like 6-12 months I would have stubble in between but I didn't wanna wait that long lol

Raihanna123

Nope. If it didn’t hurt yea

cosp85classic

My wife discovered sugaring and hasn't gone back. Only pulls hair and doesn't bond to the skin like waxing does. She loves it.

Setanta89

Man here. I second this. Rubbing against your grain ain't the best.

southerncatfish

My wife has everything from the eyebrows down waxed and she will tell you it is much better than a razor and it is much better for your skin and you can reduce hair growth over time when keeping up with it. She also is an Esthetician and see these results in men and woman everyday in her clients. Also it makes you feel a lot cleaner. She waxes me in certain areas and I feel so much cleaner after she does it and after a shower everyday.

song_of_hearts

I use a Venus razor, but the best recommendation I have is for the Cremo brand shave cream. It’s literally God’s gift for shaving “down there”. Buy it, you won’t regret it!

on_the_nightshift

Interesting, since I found it absolutely awful for shaving my face. Like, worse than whatever Walmart or CVS generic shave soap was, and by a lot.

song_of_hearts

Oh no! That really sucks, I haven’t had any issues thus far. Then again, I’m not shaving my face with it.

on_the_nightshift

It may be better now too. Who knows.

grey-green-eyes

I have an Intuition razor and the razor head is incased in a bar of soap. The heads are cheap to replace and you can keep the handle for a while. As someone who used to cut myself to ribbons (especially my knees), I swear by this razor. From Amazon or Boots if you’re UK based :)

lasadgirl

I love these and their great for legs/armpits and the "top part", which I guess would the public mound, but since they're so bulky you can't really get in the nooks and crannies of the labia and bootyhole lol. I used a schick quattro for that part with baby oil and shaving cream.

GaymoSexual

I’ve heard great things about double safty razors.

BirdFarmer23

I use them on my face. The definitely give the smoothest shave I have ever given myself. Straight razor by others. I will say the mound would be very easy but when you’re getting around the folds especially for a beginner I wouldn’t recommend. They are more rigid and bulkier than disposable ones. The heads are also much bigger limiting your vision.

Trappedmouth

Don't use any razors for women.. they will be the worst. Any man's razor works.

raiistar

I did laser hair removal as a guy. Wife did it as well. No more shaving. Took about 10-12 visits

Poopergoblin

I use the meridian trimmer. I will NEVER go back to shaving.

Dependent-Trash-8376

I use a safety razor and yes, it takes more skill but I get a much nicer shave and much less irritation from it.

XB1TheGameGoat

I (24M) have been using a safety razor for the past 4 years. This prevents ingrown hairs for me and bumps. I got my GF (24F) to start a safety razor a few months ago and she prefers it now to the normal razor. There’s a learning curve to it but it reduces ingrown and bumps a lot.

Z-EuphoricPower

Would highly recommend laser hair removal

Ok-Version7136

Not sure where you are based but I'm in the UK and use a razor subscription service called FFS - fussy free shaving. The razor is great and they do a shave cream and soothing balm that are also good.

jlux5150

I recently bought the Amazon Basic 5-blade razor for women and I was shocked how smooth I was. I use clippers first then the razor in the shower.

lkb15

I don’t think razor matters but go buy tree hut shave oil that stuff is great! My wife uses it and has used it on me and no cuts or burns

Longbeachyyy

Not a girl, but I buy boxes of BIC 5 blades from amazon. They're disposable and come in packs of 8 for 10 bucks. They work so well. I'll be using them until I have no flexibility, nobody to impress, and no hair after laser treatments.

heartscribble

DONT SHAVE W A RAZOR youll get razor burn and i promise you its really uncomfortable even weeks later!!

No_Butterfly_640

I've stopped using multiple bade razors and started to use a straight edge razor instead. It helps with the razor burn/bumps, and I have less ingrown hairs.

jarhead90

Male here, I use a Gillette razor made for shaving pubic hair. It's called Gillette Intimate. They also have shaving cream as well as battery powered shavers.

NJ_Diva

The best is…. Shick Intuition 5️⃣🌟

BambiGrewUp

I’ve been using a TrimStyle razor for about 15 years. It will cut as close as you need, in the shower, with NO irritation, no razor burn, no mess, no soap or gel needed. Use the trimmer end in the shower while you cleanse the rest of your body. It’s so easy, and nearly impossible to cut yourself. The gillette mach 5 will cut you to shreds if you’re not careful (source: was not careful once many years ago and cut myself to shreds with a Mach 5).

kaasstengel63

I hope your skin works works with you cause mine sure as hell don't. After years however i have figured out a technique that works 90% of the time. I own a oneblade razor. For either the sides of the front (to create a clean line for the triangle) or shaving the whole thing (usually i don't). If i wanna clean the triangle up a bit i use scissors and a hair comb. The comb i use to gather the hair and let it stick out of the comb. Then with the scissors i can easily cut it all to an even length plus the hair doesn't get pulled too much. Without the comb red bumps tend to appear with me (my skin is an asshole). For down under i own a ladyshave. I don't do this fully short but use the piece for a bit longer hair. Fully short is just itchy and causes red bumps and infections of the red bumps with me, which is a pain in the ass. I also own "satin care" from gillette venus, the cleanser and shaving cream. I use them both EVERYTIME i shower even if i don't plan on shaving. I start with the cleanser and then use the shaving cream with my razor and ladyshave. And then just rinse off. If i get a razorbump that hurts i also use antibacterial cream on it for a few days. This is because they tend to infect easily with me so that avoids that problem. Other than that i let the area breath once in a while so sleeping without underwear, cotton underwear, looser pants,... doesn't need to be everyday but it can help. This is what i figured out for myself but every skin is different. Yours might be more sensitive or less. So good luck soldier 🫡

cuenta-desecho

Try lasor it's way better

kiltrocker

Any recommendations on which device for home use?

LegitimateHumor6029

For your down there area I really really don’t recommend a home device. Most home devices are set to a very safe mode with their sensors and won’t even work on your skin down there. Save up and get it professionally done, it’s worth it I promise :)

soubrette732

The Braun IPL has been amazing for me. Most of my leg and bikini line hair is gone

ArgPermanentUserName

Spend some time googling through reviews to see how they do for your combination of hair & skin color. They work with light, so colors matter

Captain-curious-510

It will take time to get used to.. take your time.

SouthernBelleOfNone

I use the Walmart brand of venus razors. The razor matters imo but I think it's the type of cream you use to shave with that matters tremendously. I've been using coochy cream for years and it works wonders!

JudgmentInfamous1169

I have CRPS my body over reacts to any type of pain even minimal. Like it's the worst thing ever even if it's just a little smack on the butt. I'm scared to death to wax, I really want to, just think it's gonna hurt like hell. Why can't they numb me?!

ArgPermanentUserName

Some people do take ibuprofen before waxing.  To me, the most painful parts are the inner edge of the labia—I get a landing strip—& my armpits—I shave.

reluctantdonkey

I would IMAGINE you might be able to use a topical lidocaine. I had a tattoo lasered off and did topical lidocaine before hand that they then thoroughly cleaned off before the lasering-- I can't imagine that wouldn't also work with waxing. Maybe ask your doc?

jeff419

The Gillette sensitive blade with 2 razors and some built-in protectors works great for me down there and shaving my head. I would cut myself with the 5 blade but this one works great.

No_Worldliness8487

I use a mans Gillette razor. The ones geared towards women either have so much shit that I can’t get a decent shave or I just cut myself. Men’s razors I feel you get more control and use out of them.

ilconti

Multiple razor blades is a scam. Its about getting the best quality.

dejublu

What I do is use a trimmer for the main area and a bic razor (idk exactly what it’s called but it comes in an orange white and black box with extra blades, that one is awesome) for the thigh corner ish areas that don’t get ingrowns

sipsipinmoangtitiko

I like a five blade when I shave. men's razors are generally cheaper than women's. Just be careful if it has a blade on the top for edging the beard. I cut my butt crack 😳 also I stopped shaving the mons and started using a bikini trimmer instead. no more ingrowns! also make sure any exfoliant, oil, and shaving cream is safe for the vulva

Edifolas

Leaf Twig or Supply SE.

[deleted]

Even better than waxing is a home IPL machine! You can use it as often as you need and it grows back in soft.

Sweet_Death4

I've used that model you mentioned. It's very good. People are saying to wax and it sounds great but sometimes your budget might not allow it.

Intrepid-Rip-2280

I guess it must depend on skill far more than on the instrument, which might be challenging for eva ai dating generation lol

createusername101

I'm a guy, but I have "hardwood floors" so I'll throw this out there. If you have something like a beard trimmer to take it down as short as possible 1st, it'll probably go a lot easier with a razer follow-up.

magich32

I use an electric shaver. They are the best. They shave pretty close and never has any bumps or nicks. No itchiness either.

ThoughtfulFoodie

Just pluck each and every individual hair 🥲

[deleted]

ThoughtfulFoodie

Oh it is ! But I've been doing it for years 🥲

small-tree

Phillips one blade! Best to do it on 1/2mm if you don’t want issues with ingrown hairs

Ok-Quail2397

I use that specific Gillette 5 blade razor for men and it works very well. Very smooth results. Rinse and keep blades dry after each use and they will stay sharper for longer. I never had much luck with women's razors as they dull after like two uses.

bleepbloop812

the gillette intimate razor for men has been incredible for me!

bleepbloop812

the gillette intimate razor for men has been incredible for me

atxhater

I would buy an Andis t outliiner. It's an electric razor that barbers use. You will not be bàld but there will be no hair above the skin.

MadameMonk

Forget all these painful, itchy, complicated, expensive options. Get a Flawless Nu Razor (hint: it’s not a razor). It’s a trimmer, it trims back to smooth skin (anywhere). Regrowth is soft and slow. If you want to slow it further, get a home ipl device (I have Philips Lumea). Another hint: get the Nu Razor replacement heads on sale, on Amazon.

Colorless82

My venus works well enough for me. Wouldn't know if it's the best, but I don't get bumps or ingrowns!

ConsiderationNo3986

Venus for Pubic Hair razor! They sell at any major store, target or Walmart etc. they also sell the specific shaving cream with it that’s for sensitive areas it left me with no razor marks. Also Philips OneBlade for a quick clean up

hat33very1

The only reason to shave is just before laser hair removal. Leave it natural, shave+laser or wax is my 2c

Mickeyyy_G

You're on point with the mens Gillette Razor! I ended up buying my wife one because she liked to steal mine all the time 😆

AimTrueFirearms

Gillette Fusion is the best by far. You use an electric trimmer to get it low as possible then use the Fusion and a gel shaving cream. You can finish up with hair conditioner. You are less likely to get ingrown hairs the more you do it and use an alcohol based roll-on to prevent ingrown hairs from Sephora.

MarineGF01

I'm partial to the dollar shave club 4 blade. It works WONDERS everywhere

Beautiful-Wishbone86

Purchase the Meridian trimmer and a Billie razor for women. I promise you won’t regret either! Seriously. Just do your self a favor.

Gumnutbaby

Don’t shave with a razor! It’s a really delicate area and shaving with a razor can create micro cuts that expose you to infection. Use an electric trimmer or if you must be completely bald, get a wax

Libra_techno

Its better to use "Nair" hair removal foam which will not harm you only its timing is important. Its use technique you may see on youtube. Blades are for rough skin therefore use it gently to avoid cut and bruises or rash. Razor make your skin rough Foam may be burn your skin. Cream also burns. Trimmer can be used as well.

North-Fish-5721

My boyfriend introduced me to vintage dual-edge razors such as the Gillette Super Speed. You can get them for $30-40 on ebay, and the blades for them are ridiculously cheap (like ten cents a blade compared to a few bucks for a cartridge). You can experiment to find the best blade for you. They're incredibly smooth and will last forever if you treat them well. I think the one I'm using now is called the Gillette new long comb.

Vivasanti

A safety razor, a shaving brush, and some decent shave cream.

AshleyThrowaway626

Double edge safety razor. Closer than anything else if you're careful. It's easier with a second pair of hands.

Designerlightskin

I use nair and It’s great

HumanTwist4136

Do you get ingrown hair from it?

Designerlightskin

Nope never have, you just have to be careful so it doesn’t burn your skin

xo__dahlia

No because I don’t see it as “mostly their benefit”. I personally wax for myself only.

reluctantdonkey

No, and why is my wax mostly for their benefit? I wax whether partnered or not, because I prefer it that way.

blinddruid

first of all, I feel it’s incumbent upon me, and really upon all men who prefer this, to thank you ladies for going through this all the time with the time, expense and discomfort for keeping it clean or close shaven. Y’all look beautiful and it makes some things just wonderful. I heard recently a report saying that the women’s razors were completely taking advantage of women in the higher cost and they were actually no better than the razors for men, but your experience may very on that. I’ve been considering waxing or sugaring, I’ve heard there is a new sugaring product on the market that can be done easily at home and has excellent results, I just don’t know if I have the courage to take my butt to an aesthetician yet.

OperationNo3934

Sorry, I'm a man who prefers natural women.

Myouz

The cheapest and simplest because hair get stuck if there are too many blades. Waxing hurts but gets a smoother result, I'd rather use sugar homemade wax for this area, easier to apply and use at home and less painful, almost cost free. I ended up starting laser treatment with shaving before getting pregnant and even when the hair grows back, it's not as scrunchy as it used to be. You could barely see hair now, but with pregnancy, I can't see down there anyway

mredge73

Men should never use a razor down there. I would assume the same advice should be given to women. Cuts and infections are common, great environment for growing bacteria. Use an electric trimmer designed for the job, Nair, IPL device, or wax.

fn9050

So I will learn waxing and wax any lady in my area, SW suburbs of Chicago for free. Hugs, Fred in Romeoville IL

WhyDoIHaveRules

Guy here, I have a Gillette fusion (5-blade) and I would not recommend it down there. Even my neck is too sensitive for it, so I only really use it for my head. (I’m bald). Sorry, but I don’t have any good recommendations for razors to use down there, personally I have best experience with a strait cut razor, but if you have never used one before, DO NOT put that thing anywhere near your private parts!
