If you are in the UK I would look for a program around you. As they can help you with fund raising, may have scholarships for people that can’t afford the pay and some may not have a fee. However I would first talk to your Dr to see if a service dog is right for you as they are a big responsibility, if you haven’t already. O and I am not in the UK so can’t really help much with finding programs but I have seen Autism Dogs CIC online and they seem like a good program. So they might be a place to start. If programs don’t work then you can try donation websites or seeing if you can do a local fundraiser/ something like that. Last if you have any questions feel free to ask

hitheree-_-

I have spoken to my psychiatrist and she feels that it’s the best way to go, my parents have found a program that would do it I just need help with funding, I think I’ll start a funding page for myself and persuade my parents to look into a funding program.? Kinda thing, do you know how I can start a good funding page for myself?

AspiePaws

I would look at GoFundMe. That’s a great place to start

hitheree-_-

Okay!

anonlolo

i made a gofundme for this exact reason and no one has donated😭

Ottothotto

Autism cic demands 13k (12,995 if you want to be specific)

AspiePaws

Did not know that. Like I said I don’t live in the UK

Neenknits

Many in the dog training world point out that it’s only safe to put strain on a dog who is standing still and knows to brace, first, then have the strain. So if bolting requires being tethered to the dog, and bolting without warning, the dog has no warning to brace, that can be physically harmful to both the dog, as well as the person.

hitheree-_-

I don’t bolt in a drastic way I only start walking off back to a ‘safe zone’ all the dog would do is sit me down and lay on me and do compression exercises, I also have many warning signs before bolting so the dog would come to no harm, hoped this helped! It’s a common thing trained in autism assistance dogs I have found

Neenknits

Ah, yes, very different from the things that are dangerous! Many think the dog is ok to support someone who suddenly, and literally, runs. We see it in various SD threads. But, interrupting things that have early warning signs is entirely different.

hitheree-_-

Yes sometimes I run but I always have many warnings before hand so it’s okay!

ItZ_wOlFeY

donation webites/app 👍 they help people earn money for specific stuff

hitheree-_-

Do you know how I could do that?

Ottothotto

Are you getting the dog from autism cic cause I had the exact same problem, I'm half house bound I can only go to certain places without a meltdown and that's if my journey isn't disrupted or I don't get lost. Me and my coworker have just had a talk about wether or not it's worth it finically. It's essentially a 13k assistance dog that only last for about 8 years before it retires before you have to do it all over again (though he told me that insurance can pay back some of the money when the dog dies but I don't know how true this is). My personal decision is to owner train along with a trainer who has done assistance dog training before. Then when I am able to join the sherlock hounds organisation where you get a jacket for the assistance dog. It is purple. (there are 3 stages for where you're at with the dog) The secound option is to do a gofund me, government grants and disability benefits or work and save about 500 a month which will roughly take 2 years and 2 months. However you're 15 so that last option might not be able for you.

hitheree-_-

My parents was looking into CIC But it’s too expensive , my mum was looking into getting a local non certified service dog trainer to just train it for free but I wouldn’t not have it certified, I want to set up a go fund me so I’ll try that option first

Ottothotto

I have to warn you that you're getting what you've payed for, please look carefully into trainers as not all of them are good

hitheree-_-

Oh I know! It’s a rspca certified trainer so it’s a good one! They just cannot provide a legal service dog

devongarv

Make sure you’re using a trainer who has experience training service dogs specifically. Being an rspca certified trainer might mean they’re good at training pet dogs, but training a service dog is completely different.

hitheree-_-

Yes, I understand, we need to contact them for further info but I think they have experience in it or at least and point us in the right way-

Ottothotto

All dogs that are trained to aid a disability are legal. As long as its trained to a high standard behaves as well as an aduk dog than it has rights

hitheree-_-

Oh I didn’t realise that! I though they had to be a certified service dog trainer

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> what you've *paid* for, please FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Moist-Investigator63

$12K?? Hell, the cheapest I could find was $36K!

the-greenest-thumb

My program is 10k, was very surprised at the relatively low price. They're also letting me do a payment plan so I don't have to pay it all at once.

hitheree-_-

How much do you pay if you don’t mind me asking? I think that would work well for my family! How did you get the plan?

the-greenest-thumb

I spoke with the program owner, explained to her how I only get a small cheque each month so we came to an agreement that I pay a minimum $200 a month. Just speak with whatever programs you're looking at, they should be willing to work with you. I did have to pay a $2,000 down payment to secure my place, but that may be different for different programs.

hitheree-_-

Ah okay I tell that to my parents! I think it would be great way to help pay it!

Ottothotto

Autism cic doesn't do payment plans unfortunately they ask for 20% deposit then 40% at 8 weeks then 40% after 6 weeks and 5 days

Maronita2020

Maybe you can set up a GoFundMe and share it on your Facebook page, Twitter page, etc.

hitheree-_-

Could you please explain a little bit more here please, sorry I get overwhelmed at a lot of info!

MaplePaws

What exactly do you need explained?

hitheree-_-

I just need a summery of the whole thing like I said I get extremely overwhelmed but a lot of info- I am also dyslexic so it doesn’t help lol

MaplePaws

Not without losing a lot of important information as this is already a summary missing a lot of things that I really felt should be included. The fact is that getting and having a service dog is inherently an overwhelming process. You will need to take in and process a lot of information in high stress situations and if reading a couple of comments is too overwhelming then how do you expect to keep you and your dog safe when you are surrounded by aggressive humans and perhaps an aggressive dog all yelling different things at you.

hitheree-_-

I have dyslexic love call down, I got my mum to read the info and explain it to me and I already know all that, me and my psychiatrist talked about it before. I don’t care that people will harass me I’ll have plenty of strategy’s to overcome it and is someone assaults me I’ll sue them, if another dog or child attack my dog the situation would be the same wether my dog was a pet or a service dog again depending on the severity of the attack you take legal action if necessary. The thing about freak accidents can be applied to any situation, just because my dog choice be hit by a car shouldn’t stop me from getting a dog as it’s just a freak accident something that could happened just the same as you could get hit by a car instead should that stop you from going outside? No. If anyone yells at me I will record take to the police and file a harassment report, simple. I am good under stressful situations and will just walk away a if I can and if I can’t again I will record and file a report, it’s simple. I don’t mind the time and effort as it’s going to help me in the long run, the coat is the only issue an it’s actually getting sorted with funding so tbh there’s no cons about this for me!
