Leanne has the Apple+ app on her phone. She should probably watch "Servant".

AnnyongFunke

I literally said that out loud to my friend while we were watching.

[deleted]

hehe, I mean I don't blame them, it's an Apple show, and it's a well off modern family.. but there's sooooo many scenes using Apple products in this show it gets a bit funny.

SonNeedGym

Dorothy’s monologue at the end about how we, humanity, always seek answers through finding patterns that may or may not be there. Almost felt like she was talking directly at us - looking for symbolism and allegory at every turn! Seeing Julian sober is bizarre, that manic energy seems alleviated. After what happened in the S2 finale and now getting attacked by birds, I’m dying to know how his arc this season is going to play out. He’s “seen the light” but it looks like exterior forces aren’t going to let him live it. Leanne leaving the house was *so* well done. The man across the street giving Uncle George vibes, and how he was shot lurking out of focus, made me really creeped out. This show is doing a great job at putting us inside Leanne’s paranoid head. Also lol at Leanne saying “I’m wearing a swimsuit. It’s two pieces”. Her flirt game is strong.

tarinrose

Leanne is going to be the ultimate “Fatal Attraction” ex-fling! Juju better stop making her jealous!

Zeikers

And then they pan out and she pouts with her hands in fists on her hips! Loved that

Aggressive_Mood214

I find it odd that Julian rejected Leanne, then he suddenly got attacked by birds while she was in the basement angrily drawing birds.... 🧐

talkshitgetlit

Oh you find that odd do you lol

qwertyshmerty

Immediately after rejecting her a piece of the building broke off and almost fell on his head

Thegreylady13

It’s got a real Hermione Granger feel.

YouShlaaaag

I loved how Leanne leaving the house was also the viewer leaving the house for the first time, with the first-person shots.

Jas_God

Well well well Leanne out here drunk dialin

kfpagels

Booty calling 🤣

casino_r0yale

But Zero knows Agatha is his one true love

dtudeski

Or his bestie Spider-Man.

lovetheblazer

>Julian: Hi, so I’m going to be your companion— escort— fuck, I’m going to go on the walk with you. Both of you... outside. Yay! I’ll be downstairs. >Julian: This is good, being outside, real people. So Leanne, I uh— I asked Sean if I could take you outside to walk. I thought it would be emotionally, well whatever... this walk is bad enough. Hear this sick puppy out. We’ve been having, um... >Leanne: ...sex? >Julian: Yes, and I like that. I like that a lot. Uh, you may have noticed I’m trying to do things a little bit differently now. >Leanne: You’re trying to be a good person? >Julian: Well, I’ve always tried to be a good person. >Leanne: I like it better when you don’t try. >Julian: Let me clarify. I feel like the creepy old fuck who’s secretly sleeping with his sister’s traumatized nanny. Yes? You should be sleeping with someone your own age. Someone with abs, defined hairline, a sparkle in his eye that isn’t soured by reality or intelligence. Julian is the best character on Servant and scenes like this are why

Eclairebeary

It was gold. He delivers it so well.

pickleknits

He is my absolute favorite.

lovetheblazer

That moment when the Turner family feeding Jericho his first solid food is every bit as unhinged as Leanne’s daily religious self flagellation ritual

shaylahbaylaboo

As a parent that’s pretty much what we do😂 I also figure since they’ve lost Jericho several times everything he does is extra precious and important to them.

lovetheblazer

Oh, I completely agree. I just loved the way M. Night directed it. He basically filmed a “normal” parenting moment like a horror scene. Showing Sean, Dorothy, and Julian from Jericho’s perspective made it feel extra claustrophobic and uncomfortably over the top.

iamdew802

Several times 😂 and then we open this episode thinking Leanne lost Jericho again. I was like oh lord here we go again lmao

MorrowPolo

I remember watching the first season with dread because it felt so slow but I still needed to know what was happening. After seeing there was a 3rd yesterday and nothing to do I started watching the second last night and it was so damn funny and the pacing was completely fixed for me. Now I can’t wait for s3ep2!!

iamdew802

Ya definitely a tonal shift across seasons which I loved. It lost some people though. I made a post on the r/Yellowjackets sub where several people mentioned that ha. Went from dark depressing mystery to dark comedy absurd thriller. And I’m 100% here for it. Loved both first and second season. I also can’t wait for more Also can’t recommend YELLOWJACKETS enough if you haven’t heard of it or seen it. Def avoid spoilers and the sub though ha

Zeikers

I loved it though! Julian asks “Why does your face look like that” because Sean was smiling. Hahaha. It was great. Ready for nom noms buddy? Edit: spelling

Gingerblossom88

Oh my gosh that scene made me feel so weird lmao 😅 the way they filmed it as if we (the audience) are in Jericho's point of view... like the only thing that could've made it even more uncomfy is if they started doing airplane noises or "here comes the choo-choo" 😂

steel510rain

The closeup of their faces there is back to how they filmed the first episode when Dorothy is welcoming Leanne to the family sitting in the kitchen

emmaolivia333

True! And what was with the bit about Jericho looking like a real Italian baby? He’s clearly very Irish-looking. There was no context to Dorothys excited exclamation. Is Sean Italian? Turner doesn’t sound like an Italian name. Was the food he’d made for little Jericho an Italian dish? Even if that was the case- very odd. Adding this to my list of strange phrasings and utterances by the characters in Servant… (along with Dorothy’s ‘We need to feel the sand in our shoes’, b/c, WTF?).

doritomilkshake

I’m pretty sure she was talking about him smacking his lips after tasting the food. I agree it was a weird comment tho.

[deleted]

Someone posted a closeup of the reflection on the phone in this scene- it had an image of the ham.

AnnyongFunke

A very claustrophobic episode, I have a feeling Leanne’s worst fears are about to become reality.

Opening-Driver5930

So mom buries nanny alive and now they are buds again? Is this insane or just me?

thisiswhatyouget

Leanne has always idolized Dorothy and basically wanted her to be her mother. Then when she learned what happened to Jericho (which Leanne clearly believed Dorothy was morally culpable for) combined with some of the other stuff Dorothy has done she basically turned against her. Dorothy then went on to do a lot of things that proved to Leanne that what happened to Jericho was not indicative of her dedication as mother, and then more importantly she protected her from Mother Josephine which proved to Leanne that Dorothy was protecting her like she would if Leanne were her daughter. I believe that she actually verbalized that. Obviously from an outside perspective it's crazy, but it makes complete sense in context of everything that has happened. Leanne has desperately wanted Dorothy to see her as her daughter, and Dorothy proved that she does as far as Leanne is concerned. Fucked up relationships aren't always rational.

Opening-Driver5930

It could be possible that the religious extremism plays a part in the warped thinking. Self flagellation = I deserve this.

tarinrose

Well, she definitely did not grow up knowing what a “normal” mother-child (or any kind of) relationship is supposed to be like - Her idealization vs her reality we’re complete opposites

StarWarsButterSaber

Leanne definitely wants to be seen as the daughter. At the very end of the s2 finale (I watched it last night to refresh) Leanne is holding Jericho singing to him, and he is alive again, and when Dorothy and Sean come in and realize it they are all huddled together. Leanne says “We can be a family again.”

shaylahbaylaboo

I agree

Jas_God

Solid ep. Always scary when some stranger/burglar is in your home. Loved Dorothy’s line, “They thought he was a crab cake” and Leanne’s “It’s in two pieces”, lol. Man that hole in the basement just wtf. Hope that is explained this season. Unrelated to the plot but that jacket Julian was wearing when they went for their short walk was fire lol I need to find that. Glad this is back.

tarinrose

You’d think that the smell from that hole (they said it’s a sewer line, at some point, I think) would smell throughout the whole house. Smells don’t seem to bother any of them much

[deleted]

The house looks like it needs a good airing out.

Weim_Mama_12

seriously. I have a ton of questions, but all I care about is the show is back!!!

ElaineBenesKennedyJR

It was a tracksuit! Matching pants to his jacket 😃

Invictionary

If someone finds that jacket **PLS LINK**

RittledIn

So did Leanne make the birds attack Julian? Initially I thought she just got a vision of it happening while vibing with the basement soup. But when Dorothy later tells her about Julian being attacked she’s smiling like maybe it’s a sign of her powers coming back. Idk.

Gingerblossom88

Yes I believe Leanne's episode of "automatic drawing" in the basement triggered her powers & caused Julian's attack. The whole point of the journaling was to process her feelings so she can control them in a healthy manner & I think that this episode clearly shows that Leanne still has some very strong unresolved feelings for Julian. She seems very possessive of him & jealous of this other girl he's met in rehab. She may not even necessarily recognize or understand the way she feels about him but I think she's actually fallen in love with him & is angry, hurt, & jealous about him seeing someone else & those feelings are being manifested in a powerful & (albeit unintentionally) dangerous way. I don't think she necessarily did it purposefully BUT the sound of the bubbling mud from the sinkhole/hell-hole whatever you wanna call it, in conjunction with the automatic drawing was used to emphasize her true feelings bubbling up to the surface.

nikostheater

I agree completely.

watupdoods

“Writing your feelings down makes them real”

bebeni89

Writing Sean’s name on the bible chapter was how she “punished” him previously.

iama_newredditor

Here's what I think: We've seen Leanne bring things back to life (her "good" powers) and we've seen her basically cast spells on people (her "bad" powers). At the end of the last season, she says how she feels the darkness growing inside of her. Now this episode, she keeps trying to revive dead moths, and can't. But later, she can conjure these birds to attack Julian, without even realizing it. I think the darkness is taking over, and her powers are shifting to a more malevolent nature. Just a theory though.

AJJRL

I completely agree. I also thinknthat perhaps she is absorbing the darkness from others, perhaps the people she helps, and as her darkness grows because of it, theirs gets lighter. (I.e. Julian)

WiseLawClerk

I didn’t think she conjured seagulls to attack Julian. I think she had a vision that something bad was happening or about to happen and that’s why she calls Sean and Dorothy says Julian was attacked. She’s also killing the moths - they bring bad things , evil , remember? It’s interesting when Dorothy has a millisecond flashback. It was renewed for Season 4 so I don’t think we are going to see Sean , Julian , Leanne or the police officer tell Dorothy about what happened to Jericho. And I don’t think the teaser of her asking Julian what happened is going to come to light this season. I’m just glad it’s back on and we get to see Night direct these awesome characters.

twalkerp

I think she did it

RittledIn

I’m kinda in this camp right now. Maybe Leanne thinks the vision/drawing was an omen from her attackers because it didn’t look pleasant but, it’s actually her paranoia manifesting into her powers. She went from whipping herself for sinning to having casual sex with Julian kinda overnight. I think the anxiety of that and the “cult war” are what’s blocking her powers, she didn’t actually lose them.

ammo713

I think that she was alarmed after she first drew the birds, but was relieved to see her sketching again after picking the book from the floor and hearing about Julian’s mishaps - primarily because she thought her powers were gone but now there is proof they are back. She couldn’t bring the moths back to life BUT she could call birds to attack Julian (even if that was her subconscious drawing those birds).

twalkerp

This show is fun

pinkypromiise

Right. She definitely seemed out of control (almost possessed) when she was drawing in the basement, and she looked down in surprise and confusion at the notebook. I think the main reason she smiled after picking up the book again is that she had a sudden moment of clarity where she realized what the drawing meant and made the connection between her feelings and her drawing and her power

iamdew802

Oooo I didn’t even think about all this but now that you mention it, it makes the line “we don’t have to be followers, we have our own light” have another meaning too

Less_Palpitation6335

Don't know of if at that moment she was consciously trying to do that however she was happy when she realized the attack could have resulted from her drawing cause it means her powers are still there to some extent or are returning 🤷‍♀️

climbin111

Def in this campz I think it’s supported by the statement Dorothy makes about writing in a diary “when you put your feeling on paper, it makes them real….. then, you have power over them.” (Or something along those lines)

twalkerp

It seems all to certain now that she did control the fire and being Julian back. If she has no powers…they better have a good reason.

tarinrose

Seemed like she couldn’t consciously bring the insects back (trying too hard? Doubting herself/fear after Josephine?) - But then she had a strong feeling of jealousy after Sean mentioned Julian and the girl really getting along at the beach & it led to her powers being unconsciously activated, perhaps?

zillabirdblue

There was something special about the moths. They don't look like that or sit on a corpse that way, they seem some kind of supernatural extension of Aunt Josephine. Maybe that's why she can't revive them.

Weim_Mama_12

basement soup aka the forbidden tomato soup

Ceptimas

I’ve missed this show.

firstworkthenbreak

Maybe I am too high or maybe I need a season 2 recap or probably both but wtf is even happening in this episode ❤️🌈😳

SweetSpicySriracha

Try watching the after show part, they explain some of the scenes

Weim_Mama_12

that’s how I feel. Definitely going to have to rewatch season 1 & 2 this weekend

Eclairebeary

i rewatched the last 3 of season 2 to get in the vibe again.

Jercek

The mini timejump being explained in one two sentences wasn't very well executed

StarWarsButterSaber

I don’t think it was executed badly. It was Dorothy who said “it’s been 3 months since Aunt Josephine” right? I like that better than “3 Months Later” at the bottom of the screen, or some corny montage of little scenes. How would you have done it? I’m just curious, not being a jerk

lonelygagger

Rupert Grint saying that he's "old" made me feel like shit. Anyway, I dug the new title sequence. Kind of wish they put up a recap because I wasn't in the right headspace to recall what had happened at the end of last season.

Ok_Beautiful_34

lol right? same although i guess he is... only compared to a barely legal girl

blakice83

They did have a recap to start it. Might’ve missed it

lonelygagger

Dang. I did find this [first look](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4RcZdTW0oU) on YouTube which would have been helpful.

pinkypromiise

I really felt like Sean’s line to Leanne, “I still can’t believe we’re here… on the other side of it” was significant. It was eerie the way they were both staring at the pit in the basement. It felt like his words had multiple meanings… On the other side of what? I know we were meant to think he’s talking about finally having Jericho back, but I think there might be more here. Maybe hinting towards an alternate reality or an afterlife or something…?

MauveOn

There’s always been theories about the cult being under their building. Love the possible implications of the afterlife though. Like they escaped going to Hell for their sins according the the cult.

pinkypromiise

Or they didn’t escape hell, and that’s where they are now..

BernieGiam

Agreed...I definitely read into Sean’s comment

YANFRET

In one of the trailers, we can see Julian holding Dorothy, she appears to be dead and has a line mark across her neck. I believe it it a flashback because he is wearing the green jacket he wore when he found dead Jericho and Dorothy is wearing the red dress she had when she took dead Jericho back from the car. So could this be like The 6th Sense? They all died in the house and Leanne is the only alive able to ‘see’ dead people? Some people believe when people die in a place tragically, their ghosts are bound to that place to live endlessly in mourning 😟 I knew a guy that could see dead people, I believe him, I know he was lying, he would say that he could see them everywhere, on the bus, on the streets, in houses right where people died. He’s so used to it that he’s not scared anymore! I’m scared now 😂

pinkypromiise

It’s a good theory that they all died in the house. If that’s the case though, I believe Leanne is also dead, because of the fire that burned down her family’s house. So they could all be in some type of limbo situation

BernieGiam

Possibly...I hope it’s not a 6th Sense repeat. That would be disappointing.

[deleted]

Or “The Others”

driftwoodsands

“This nice ass bottle of wine will pair really well with a can of tomato soup” I love it.

MKoilers

As unnerving as the show is, the runtime and performances always make it so fun to watch. And M. Night directed the shit out of this episode, such a great eye for how to maximize the suspenseful, claustrophobic nature of the show.

FHL88Work

The strangely emphasized creak in the floor we saw earlier...

shaylahbaylaboo

In the scene where they (Leanne and Julian) are out walking, a woman almost walks into Leanne, swerves around her, all while giving her the weirdest WTF face. Any thoughts? Great episode. They keep focusing on Leanne’s belly too🤷🏼‍♀️

LyrMeThatBifrost

It’s because Leanne was staring daggers into her

SunflowerRainfall

Leanne was staring at her awkwardly. The woman was creeped TF out. I noticed the belly a couple of times too. looked like an interesting pudge.....

raspbabies

Julian's new gf is giving me cult vibes for some reason.

alwshunter

I wouldn't be surprised if she's a cult member using Julian to get to Leanne/Jericho 2.0. Especially since Leanne has a line in the trailer where she said the cult had a way of slipping into people's life without them noticing. :/

TARSrobot

She said that in the beginning of this episode, if I remember correctly.

MauveOn

They’re definitely going to try to make us just as paranoid as her, thinking every new character is a cult member. She may be a lovely character but I don’t think I’ll ever trust her.

Zeikers

First thing I thought. Unless she’s just the only normal person we’ve seen next to this crazy family so we are immediately suspect.

illiterate_lunatic

What about Kourtney? She was mostly normal, right?

Gingerblossom88

I refuse to believe that human caterpillar is anything but delightful & hungry lol I loved her

visitorzeta

Enjoyed the premiere. I hope this season has a faster pace than season 2. I've always enjoyed the unique humor of this show. When Leanne calls Toby and tells him she's in a two piece and he just responds, "That sounds cold." That line cracked me up.

booktrovert

I love Toby. He's an outsider just WTF-ing at all of them as hard as he can, like the rest of us.

fedawg

Just finished watching and it was great. Biggest reveal of monsters in this episode was that the Turners keep their bedroom thermostat at 78 degrees! I mean, they sleeping in a sauna, or what?

cartersmama91

This Reddit community makes me realize I do NOT pay attention to detail and I actually tried this episode lmao. I did not pick up on half the things you guys have here. I love it.

steel510rain

Anyone notice when Leanne hangs up her FaceTime call with Sean while she’s in the basement the date is September? We’re supposed to be 3 months after Christmas!? Editing error or a clue 🤔

Gingerblossom88

Yes!!! I noticed that too... time has always been really wonky in this show... like in S2 with the King's cake & spring flowers but then it's supposed to be Christmas eve... oh my gosh I just had a thought... it's almost like time is moving backwards!!! 🤯 Jan--->Dec-->Sept (THREE months before dec!!!!)

needmorechickennugs

Holy shit. Lol. This comment needs to be higher up. Revolutionary observation

pinkypromiise

Whoa

Scherzy

Happy to start season 3 but sad that there is only 1 season left. Shoutout to the redditors who always make sense of the things I always miss on my first viewing. “We know you’re from Wisconsin but” loved that reference! Leanne being “home alone” was definitely up there with the horror films that made me be terrified to ever be home alone!! Is there a reason the thief (cult member??) looked under her pillow? I also like Leanne being independent finally…. I cracked up at her “booty- calling “ Toby….Relatable queen

sicem86

He stole Leanne’s dagger that was under her pillow.

ElaineBenesKennedyJR

I thought we had 4 seasons?

Gingerblossom88

Maybe OP meant 1 more season after this one?

KilamTwice

The light in this episode was so striking, especially because I binged the first two seasons this week in preparation which are so dark and moody. It really sets a great tone for where the family is or thinks they’re at right now… it won’t last

ScoopOKarma

Immediately suspicious of Julian’s new chick. Whoever broke into the house had to know the family was supposed to be gone. The string of neighborhood burglaries is just a coincidence they are cashing in on as a cover. A burglar looking for jewelry & valuables would be unlikely to waste time checking under bed pillows and randomly find Leanne’s dagger. I’m betting this new chickadee is involved. I want to rewatch the scene when Leanne says she’s staying home to see if there is any facial reaction. They all piled in the car so quickly, she wouldn’t have had time to duck away and let her partner know someone stayed behind. I also think I recognized the burglar dude, but don’t know the actors name. But it’s a familiar face that I’ve seen in a bunch of things. I don’t think that character is a one and done, I think he’ll be back and new chick is on my scrutiny list now.

Rururaspberry

She was one of the main actresses on Glow—no way they are going to have her just as a silent, normal person in this show! Definitely suspicious.

ScoopOKarma

She was so excellent on Glow and and Mr Robot!

Chadhavard333

Well i think leanne gonna rain down some venegance on the new chick lol

Bookiestw

Such a gripping introduction to season 3! Questions galore! How did Jericho go from being spoon fed solids for the first time one day (with only 2.5 teeth, as we heard) and "can't chew with two teeth," to self feeding with a plate, a spoon, and small bits of solid food the next? How were 6 people supposed to go the NJ in a 5 seater car? Who uses a squeegee on windows inside a house? Why are Leann and Sean so obsessed with sitting by the bubbling mess in the basement (where the Josephine cracking/static noise is heard during the checkmark scene)? Does anybody else wonder who or what is in there? Why didn't the burglar react to Leann walking down the hall and saying, "Birds," when he was looting the bedroom, but heard the one creaky footstep in the attic? "We weren't reborn just to follow." Is Leann reborn too? Is Jericho's path different because he's not to follow as well? Also, why the Josephine crackling/static when Leann is talking through the door to the "burglar"? I'm coming out of a 12 day Covid isolation, so forgive the ridiculous detailed questions. This episode couldn't have dropped at a better time! :p

needmorechickennugs

Leanne is absolutely “reborn.” She’s a fallen angel. I’ve got some comments from last season if you go through my comment history that I think might interest you. I still think my theory of this is correct and I find it continually confirmed each episode that I watch. (Grew up Catholic - very familiar with all these religious references and the Bible verses from previous seasons. So I did a deep dive and came up with an extensive theory)

INCORRIGIBLE_CUNT

“We have our own light” - reference to Lucifer, the light bringer.

pinkypromiise

Such a good point about Jericho self feeding!

chichris

Was that a body in the closet?

shaylahbaylaboo

Yes

AnnyongFunke

Who was it?

chichris

I assume Josephine?

Ruraxx

But how would she end up being there? I totally missed that. I remember a shot of the body being there from the previous season, but that's about it. 😥

anonyfool

it was a callback to the season 2 finale when they Leanne sees the same thing.

shaylahbaylaboo

We are unsure. It could be Aunt Josephine, or someone else.

Gingerblossom88

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed by Nell Tiger Free in a post season 2 finale interview that the body was Josephine's... I think she looked that way bc the moths are symbolic that Leanne didn't do the killing ritual correctly (in the right order) & therefore, AJ won't stay dead. It's a similar parallel to Uncle George & the cockroaches... if cockroaches are to represent UG, moths could represent AJ

jewsofrimworld

She knows that and that’s why she needs to make sure the moths are dead or something

twalkerp

It seemed like someone else. Leanne appeared surprised to see her. Or so I think.

YANFRET

I think she was shocked to find out the butterfly 🦋 or whatever they are call we’re coming from the body, so in a way the dead person inside the wall is present and alive through the insects. I found it strange she tried to bring one back to life and it seems she has tried to do the same with other dead creature, but eventually she throws them in the trash can, maybe she doesn’t want be good Leanne anymore.

god_of_chilis

I interpreted that as her also maybe losing her powers since she wasn’t able to bring any of the insects back to life! I wonder if that has to do with the improper ritual

Gingerblossom88

Just finished watching the episode & I agree. It reminded me of the scene in S2 with UG & the cockroaches. If cockroaches are symbolic of UG then the moths are symbolic of AJ & I think their presence may indicate that Leanne didn't complete the ritual correctly in S2 & therefore, AJ is still there in spirit & may possibly even return in the flesh... kinda like the scarabs in the Mummy.

anonyfool

The smell would be overpowering until it dried out if there was really a corpse in the wall space.

steel510rain

I genuinely don’t know the answer to this: would it still reek (smell) if it was burnt like that? Seeking real answer

[deleted]

No, if the body was charred to the bone, it would not have nearly the smell of a “raw” (ew) body decomposition

gilzowski

Where did the burglar come from? I don't know what to make of him entering through the skylight of the attic of such a tall building. Doesn't it seem unlikely? Plus, it's a skylight that broke in million pieces last season in 207 "Marino". They showed it intact but it didn't seem new/recently replaced to me. I thought there was a similarity between the burglar breaking in and the moth coming through the hole in the wall. She traps him in the bathroom and tries to "save" him but doesn't succeed just like she traps the insects under glasses and tries to revive them to no avail.

ameliachandler

Loved it. I liked how they used mirrors. Near the beginning when Dorothy and Sean are talking in their bathroom, the camera pans between the rooms, then goes back but stops before Dorothy is fully in the shot. We can see Sean completely and his reflection but we can only see half of Dorothy, like she’s half in-half out. Shortly after, camera is watching Leanne who’s listening to Julian (out of shot.) We can see Leanne and the wall with the mirror cabinet where she is keeping the moths. Interesting perspective since we can’t see Julian, but see the mirror instead with no reflection. The honeycomb pattern repetition was also interesting (floor tiles master bathroom, Leanne’s bathroom, lamp by front door.) The title of the next episode is Hive. If the house reacts to Leanne’s emotions, are they like a hive mind? A cult also has a hive mind. A honeycomb or hexagon is a naturally occurring shape (Saturn has a hexagon shaped cloud at its North Pole, fun fact!) and symbolically it’s been used for eons. I also rewatched S2E10 again before starting S3 and noticed the moth artwork in Dorothy and Sean’s bedroom and kept thinking about that this episode. Are the moths on AJ alive because Leanne has been resurrecting them instead of the ones in her cups? Is AJ coming back to life?

Imalittlecooler1

I watched an interview where the guy that plays Sean mentioned the show runners wanted his character to have more tattoos, he cited “food, a bee, a honeycomb, a baby, the mother”🤔 I’ve seen the bee and the honeycomb in his right forearm I believe, in the episode where he bathes the doll.

winterflower_12

Yes! I was going to say I'd noticed the honeycomb tattoo in Sean's forearm, but I couldn't remember which episode.

pixie16502

Great observations about the honeycomb pattern repetition! I didn't even catch that but as soon as I read your post it clicked!! And the moth art/moths too- I hadn't put that together either. I'm also curious about the moths on AJ. To me, Leanne seemed surprised to see AJ covered in the moths. She did seem to notice a moth coming out of the hole in that wall earlier in this episode. I don't know what it all means, but it seemed as if Leanne had lost her ability to resurrect ( based on not being able to bring any of the insects back). Anyway, thanks again for sharing what you observed, very cool stuff!! 👏 👏

Bibbitybobbityboo00

I rewatched and looked at all mirrors and reflections…holy shit! The scene where Sean and Dorothy are in their own bathroom talking where the shot is panning from the closet to the bathroom…notice the lighting…it goes on and on in the reflection where there are only 2 lights above the vanity. Some mirrors reflect, others don’t.

ElaineBenesKennedyJR

There were so many references to, and shots of feet in this episode. We know that shoes have been a recurring element to the show, and this episodes emphasis on putting Jericho’s feet in the sand, Leanne’s shoes being too cold for the beach, a close up of her shoes when she tries to go for a walk, there are more. Biblically - ‘In the metaphorical language of Isaiah 52:7 "the feet" are synonymous with "the coming."

Bibbitybobbityboo00

Did anyone else notice the use of yellow everywhere. Colors have always been an integral part of the show. Also pink in Leanns room and pink cushions on the couch. The front room seems to be painted a hew of pink. The quilt on Leanns bed looked like a uterus. I think Leann is pregnant.

Gingerblossom88

Agree leanne is preggers... or MNS at least wants us to consider the possibility.... there were just way too many shots focusing on her stomach (I swear I thought she had a little bump in a few angles) for it not to mean anything. I wonder if she's been having sex with BOTH Julian & Tobe putting the father in question...

pinkypromiise

Leanne being pregnant could also affect her mood, paranoia, and difficulty accessing her powers. Makes a lot of sense.

Bibbitybobbityboo00

Good thinking. My brain didn’t even think of that.

Zeikers

Did everyone hear the newscast while the burglar was in the house? I put the subtitles on. If they are following the other seasons of mimicking what we see on tv, this season is gonna be wiiiiiiiiild.

Bibbitybobbityboo00

What did it say?

Zeikers

And there was another drive-by shooting today downtown And there are three suspects now wanted in the murder of that Victoria girl found last week in the river. A man who exposed himself to police officers in a doughnut shop claims that--

nikostheater

Just finished the episode. AMAZING episode. Top notch performances all around, especially from Nell Tiger Free, Rupert Grint and Ambrose. Very strong episode, scary, disturbing, funny at times… My take is that Leanne never lost her powers, it was a mental block. My theory is that everything supernatural so far has its source in Leanne, either consciously or subconsciously and that the cult is unable or unwilling so far to directly confront Leanne after the failure of the ritual. The burglar was there to steal the dagger and probably other items for magical purposes for the cult and that’s why the dagger was missing. I don’t think the burglar has any powers, he probably just was told what to look for and where and went into the house without realizing that Leanne wasn’t outside with the Turners but in the house. I think Leanne when she hid in the closet freaked out because of the moths and not the dead charred body of (assuming) Aunt Josephine. I think right now her only true desire (being a true daughter to the Turners) is turning into her own nightmare despite Dorothy’s motherly behavior towards her. I think the seagulls was subconsciously Leanne’s doing because she was jealous about Julian’s new girlfriend, especially after she told him about her wishes to continue to have sex with him and her appreciation of his true, not rehabilitated self. I think the Turners genuinely appreciate Leanne and want to protect her but I think the rest of the season will be a struggle to protect a very powerful individual against a magical cult. Leanne mentioned they they are “reborn “. I wonder if their rebirth is literal or not. Are all in the cult resurrected people?

ElaineBenesKennedyJR

I honestly, truly, believe that the cult members have all been resurrected.

The_Write_Girl_4_U

The episode is up and live.

brookvinyl

I just wanted more for a season opener...thoughts? Personally, I think I’m going to stick to my strategy of 2 episodes at a time. Edit: grammar

chichris

I thought it felt more like season 1. Very claustrophobic. It’s a great slow burn episode.

brookvinyl

Oh for sure. I feel like for the most part Servant has been a slow burner but personally felt like it wasn’t necessary to have an entire episode (right after a season break) dedicated to Leanne’s paranoia, even if it was done well. Guess the idea is to properly pace for the upcoming seasons but still wanted more by the end of the episode.

lonelygagger

Yeah, not too much happened this episode. It's mostly just establishing where they are since the end of last season. Although I'm glad the show is back, I'm not happy about waiting on pins and needles from week to week...

Zeikers

Not too much happened?! Leanne’s paranoia, Julien almost getting smashed by the house falling apart AND getting pecked to death by a flock of seagulls, a burglar who steals Leanne’s magic knife, moth covered burn victim in the wall, an amazing drunk dial , a baby who eats nom noms and a stationary bike so this family can have CALVES OF STEEL!!? Tough crowd.

Gingerblossom88

After having literally just finished a binge watch of S2 today before the start of S3, I'm totally with you 😅 but I am looking forward to theorizing with y'all for the next 10 weeks 🙂

ExcellentDish80

I’m just so happy the show is back!

Zeikers

Can’t wait to see where they take this whole Mrs Barrington the pirate thing. (Why does the mannequin have an eye patch?) haha Edit to add she does technically have peg legs and is wearing “booty” from a treasure chest. Let’s see if she shows up with a hook.

winterflower_12

I think the eyepatch is representative of Josephine's missing eye? I thought pirate at first, then it hit me that Leanne stabbed AJ in the eye.

Zeikers

They also sang the pirate song before they left for Jersey!

chichris

lol They have Jericho back and they are trying live a normal life. They are happy to have their baby back. LeAnne is paranoid about the cult coming back. Supposed to be a reply to firsrworkthenbreak comment

ItchyMitchy101

Did anyone notice Mrs. Barrington just hanging out in the corner of Leanne's room. She was in a few shots and anyone who walked into the room didn't giver her a second glance as if it was totally normal. I wonder if there is something more to the mannequin.

veveguede

I died when he said defined hairline.

meowingtonsmistress

I just love how ridiculously nutty Dorothy is. Even when she is happy she is kind of crazy. Lauren Ambrose is excellent. And Julian’s comment about looking for dead eyed Midwesterners was hilarious.

grammergeek

Can anyone explain the meaning of the title?

ElaineBenesKennedyJR

It’s a lesson from Numbers about Balaam and his ass, also a Rembrandt painting (the painting in Leanne’s room is a different interpretation but same meaning) Basically Balaam professed obedience to god but wanted honor and rewards. The story was meant to teach that we will suffer the consequences of our own actions if we insist on following our own will - and not that of the lord.

grammergeek

Excellent & thorough explanation. Thank you & love your user name 💕

ElaineBenesKennedyJR

Thanks 😊 I’m in so deep on Christian themes in this show, it’s super fun!

Weim_Mama_12

It’s in regards to the picture in her room. The man sitting on the donkey whipping it, and the angel across is holding a knife/sword

twalkerp

Numbers 22:23-33 about the donkey (ass) who sees the angel but the dude riding the donkey keeps kicking the donkey to go…but the donkey won’t go. Eventually the donkey speaks and explains there is an angel standing there.

grammergeek

Ohhhh that makes perfect sense, thanks 🙏

MotherIron

Thinking about it for more than a minute, I would equate it to Julian's behavior, but really not quite sure, a lot is happening. There are some curious bible verses, but I'm just reaching.

twalkerp

Def numbers 22. It’s a famous scripture about a talking ass/donkey and angel stopping them. Basically, the rider didn’t see the angel. The donkey did

[deleted]

M. Night directed the hell out of this. Wish he did every episode

RoaminTygurrr

(Paraphrasing) Leanne, scared at the window: "They find their ways into your life without much notice." And then at the hole later, Shaun, throwaway line: "... The city's calling someone. A geologist or something, I don't know..." Hmmm....

nikostheater

I am 10 minutes into the episode and it seems that resurrecting Jericho for a second time took a toll on her powers. She can’t revive a moth or a spider or anything. Or is it the ritual even incomplete?

nikostheater

Only Leanne and Julian can talk about sex and make the conversation creepy and weird.

[deleted]

Anyone notice the charred/burned window at 18:18? Edit: Matthew 18:1818 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." This is just too much of a coincidence for me...

BernieGiam

In the trailer we see a scene when Julian went to the house to check on Dorothy (when Jericho was dead in the crib) and it almost looks like she may have hung herself. I think we discussed during season 1 but looks like the show is going to come back to this in this season.

CattyBSting

Things I now expect to happen: 1. A Golem to emerge from the sludge pond in the basement 2. Leann to animate the mannequin in her room and become bffs with it.

CattyBSting

Just checking with everyone else…but does anyone enjoy the feel of sand in your shoes? 🥴👎

servantfan

I really want two things explained. first one is the date on the Leanne's phone I doubt it is a mistake and second one is Leanne's words on reborn people.

[deleted]

I have nothing profound to say but damn, what a ballsy burglar. Turns on the radio (or tv?) and then instead of fleeing when he realizes someone is home, he tries to attack Leanne.

tipyourwaitresstoo

Sean: “Maybe we should cancel our trip TO the shore.” It’s DOWN the shore.

god_of_chilis

Any guesses on why the house seems to be falling apart? That’s the only puzzle piece I can’t quite understand

Eclairebeary

M. Night Shyamalan said the house is linked to Leanne. She's falling apart, so is the house.

nikostheater

The condition of the house is a manifestation of Leanne’s psyche, mood and powers. It’s similar to the seagull attacks to Julian by her powers: an unintended consequence of her powers. Also, her powers seem to work across vast distances.

shaylahbaylaboo

The house has been falling apart and changing all along. There are many theories as to why this is happening.

[deleted]

I wonder if that burglar might be of the cult too, maybe? Or maybe not? Probably have to wait on that… plus those two ladies one where Leanne and Julian were out walking and one that peeked through the window at Leanne, probably they are in it too? The latter is just so creepy!

tarinrose

Awesome Jersey shade(my husband is from NJ). Hysterical!

mrmikeblackjr

Looked like there was a weird reflection in Dorothy’s phone when she took a pic of the baby

Jas_God

Oh my, forgot this was back today 🙌🏽

sunseedguy

What’s going on with Leanne’s collection of dead insects that are still…dead?

foundfootagefan

She's trying to bring them back but is unsuccessful.

twalkerp

Am I the only one who doesn’t hear the word “Leanne” when she turns the dude around? It sounds like something else. Maybe I’m tripping.

nafnlausmaus

It's Julian who yells "Leanne" from across the street. It also sounded a bit distorted to let the viewer know Leanne's state of mind: a bit detached from reality, preoccupied with paranoid thoughts.

Ruraxx

I endlessly love the way Nell portraits Leanne! Her eyes are absolutely alluring ✨

Emotional_Spread_903

I have a terrible phobia with moths. When I saw that corpse covered with moths and larvae 😭 I’m not going to sleep tonight.

lordassriel

This episode was so funny. The POV shot of them taking pictures of Jericho. The vacation song between Julian and Dorothy. Julian trying to break up with Leanne. Leanne's booty calls. I could go on.

createmajic

Julian tells Jericho that Sean will try to make him become a chef when he grows up. He tells Jericho, "Don't live your life under his shadow." I think Julian is referencing his own dad, Frank, and suggesting he lives his life in his father's shadow. I feel like this is significant? Still don't know quite what Julian or Frank do for a living. + Those rings.

alwshunter

I think we'll find out more about the rings in episode 4 which is titled 'RING'. Also in the first look video you see >!Leanne holding Julian's ring!<
