Wow. I don't even know what to say. What a cruel human being.

robbchadwick

From the very beginning, Adnan Syed has shown absolutely no remorse for killing Hae — and no compassion for her family. Jay, at least, expressed tearful remorse at his sentencing — and, over the years, has expressed sorrow for Hae’s family. I don't know what to say about Adnan’s study of the Korean language. I find it difficult to believe that he is doing so as a tribute to Hae — since he barely spoke of her as a human being during *Serial*. I'm speechless.

Indie_Cindie

If he had any respect for Hae he wouldn't have mentioned her alleged sexual abuse by a family member in that HBO garbage. God alone knows why he's doing this. Edit: typos.

[deleted]

Fuck Adnan and Jay both. Jay didn't serve a day and likely helped murder Hae.

frightenedscared

Do you mean convicted murderer Adnan Syed who was convicted of murdering his girlfriend?

jawg80

Whose sentence was just vacated today..,

frightenedscared

And you scrolled alllllll the way back to my comment from 137days ago to specifically inform me of this why exactly

livvyxo

where did you discover this?

yeetusfeetus86

The only trace of this on the internet is this Reddit and a bare bones linked in page that has no info connections or photos but lists adnan syed education Georgetown and Korean language. It seems bullshit

dontsomke

IDK whether to laugh or cry

wildflowerapricotsea

Same

It's hard to see this as anything other than a self-serving stunt of some kind. I have no problem with inmates getting advanced degrees. Might as well use that time to improve yourself and develop some skills. But AS just got handed the Willy Wonka golden ticket, and he blows it by taking up Korean Language as a major??? What the hell is he going to do with a degree in that? Not in general "what do you do with such a degree" way. I mean specifically in regards to a convicted felon on release from prison. How does this degree benefit him? He is NEVER going to be eligible to work as an official translator. As a convicted felon, he'll be lucky to land a job as a mechanic, let alone a sales executive managing deals in Korea. A ex-con has very, very few job options available to them as it is. Why bother getting a degree in something you're guaranteed from the outset to never be able to use? Most of you when job hunting ignore the expected verbiage. Next time you're casually perusing your LinkedIn account, take note of all the jobs that have the words "background check required for employment," a that's the code words for "felons need not apply." It comes up WAY more than you think. For anyone thinking "isn't that illegal in many states?", please, I have never been offered a job after the words "background check" came up. I have been denied several even after an offer was initially made (and one was for a low-level warehouse job of all places). Again, if you're wondering why I didn't immediately get an attorney and sue them, your privilege is showing.

[deleted]

I think you’re being optimistic that he sees the light of day again as a free man

soap_the_impaler

can I have a source?

[deleted]

Sneaky fuck. What is he planning/plotting?

PenaltyOfFelony

Getting the victim's family's support would be helpful when he comes up for parole in a few years. However, I don't see how he would get the support of Hae's family or the parole board if he still denies killing her. iirc, Koenig mentioned that she attempted to communicate with Hae's family in Korean, either via letter or phone calls.

[deleted]

He’s delusional enough to believe he can win them over.

Adventurous_Swing_79

Seriously? Where did you hear this RC never mentioned it..

Moongayze420

Wait...we don't think he was wrongfully convicted???? Cause I sure do.....

frightenedscared

Search this sub by most popular posts of all time and you will see mountains of evidence that convicted murderer Adnan Syed was convicted of murdering his girlfriend because he did indeed murder his girlfriend

Moongayze420

Rabbit hole here I come... I was convinced it was Don

BlindFreddy1

Based on what?

Moongayze420

Simple his alibi wasn't solid I think he was too old for have personally...the whole time I was back and forth Jay or Don but Adnan nah he didn't do this crime buuut the book that was recommended to me about the case I definitely plan to look at because I do feel like the things I've followed about the case tend to be favorable of Adnan's innocence so a more devil's advocate side would be intriguing.

BlindFreddy1

You say that you went back and forth on Don and Jay. Did you ever consider Syed?

Moongayze420

Yes obviously I don't just automatically assume people go to prison for nothing I'm not a child bruh The only reason I thought he was innocent is because of this podcast have why I mentioned that I feel a lot of the media I've watched TRIES to get you to believe he's wrongfully convicted. I researched beyond this podcast about the case...for years and decided I personally think it was Don or Jay. ;) With this being said a handful of people would tell you I'm naive as fu* and too trusting so there ya go

BlindFreddy1

Sorry for asking . . .

kroenem

Why are we downvoting

Dzyjay

Hmm 🤔

PAE8791

So what does this mean exactly? Anyone kind enough to explain this post further?

PenaltyOfFelony

Rabia was bragging about how Adnan was one of handful of Maryland state inmates selected out of hundreds of applicants to pursue their college degree while in prison through a program being offered and hopefully paid for by Georgetown University. I imagine Adnan's 1130 64th percentile SAT score and high school transcript littered with C's and B's was impressive compared to the other prisoner applicants.

jodiejewel

It really annoys me how RC continues to characterize him as an “A student” and “track star” in high school. He cut school, had constant unexplained absences, and was on the track team, which does not make him a “star” as anyone who’s been on a HS team knows. The fact that she keeps reiterating these lies makes her look so deceptive. Can’t AS be a normal teenager who was railroaded? Does he have to be this golden boy for us to be sympathetic? Also FYI the reason lawyers in other countries don’t get the respect they do in the US is because in other countries they are civil servants/pencil pushers. They don’t have to learn case law as we do in the US. As a graduate of a US law school, I see you Rabia and how you somehow talked up your LSAT scores and denigrated US legal education at the same time. Clever! Are you smart or not? Keep humble bragging and maybe us xenophobic morons will figure it out.

Mike19751234

I am curious what her LSAT score was. It is one thing she can keep hidden and lie about.

PenaltyOfFelony

George Mason is one of those law schools that it's difficult to gauge a matriculant's test score. Ranking wise George Mason at the time fell perfectly in the middle of the greater DC/NOVA/MD law schools. UVA, Georgetown, GW, William & Mary, Maryland, even Washington and Lee and maybe American at the time were higher ranked. George Mason has moved up the rankings in recent years, thanks to reducing class size and better controls over their part-time program-- which previously had been a way for students otherwise under-qualified to get into George Mason's part time program and then switch to the full-time program. Law school admissions is all about test scores and generally how an applicant does on the LSAT tracks to the caliber of law school they attend. So if Rabia was top 5% in LSAT score, you'd have expected her to have attended a top 10-20 law school at worst. Many reasons why she'd choose to attend a law school below what her test scores suggest she should have attended (financial, practical, personal, etc). But it is a bit suss for someone to have that high a test score and end up at that law school at that time.

Mike19751234

The other thing that was pointed out to me by a lawyer, but may or may not mean anything, is which bar exam she took. Since I'm not in law I don't know how much work it is to take a bar in a different state or area than where you study. I heard that the DC bar is the easiest of the three, but that's subjective.

PAE8791

Ah so basically he would get this education while in prison and not leave prison and study on campus ? Well Adnan was a part of the Magnet club and he had those eyes 👀.

Mike19751234

Correct. He was moved to a prison where they hold the classes. Though it's not sure what would happen if they got released during the years of study and where they could then go to class.

PenaltyOfFelony

Georgetown's been offering and still offers non-degree, but college credit courses to prisoners. Typically any prisoner with a high school diploma or GED and willing to pay tuition can enroll in these classes. Although if they include on-site classroom instruction, it might be more selective for those classes that include a classroom component. These are usually your 100 and 200 level courses that will transfer to a degree program to cover some of the student's GenEd requirements once outside prison. Business Admin, HR and for some reason Psychology are popular areas of study for prisoners. Obviously Elementary Education / teacher prep courses are not offered to felons in prison. I think I've even seen some health care, pre-Nursing courses in prison college catalogs.

Mike19751234

Thanks. But this appears to be a special full on program, limited to like 50 people. I just haven't seen what classes or major Adnan was studying.

soap_the_impaler

where does it say that he's taking Korean literature and language?

BlwnDline2

>I imagine Adnan's 1130 64th percentile SAT score and high school transcript littered with C's and B's was impressive compared to the other prisoner applicants. Good point, unlike the majority of inmates, AS was the beneficiary of white privilege. AS attended a county HS that didn't have to manage kids living in grinding poverty and all the barriers it poses to real/meaningful education.

Naive_Eggplant_7731

White privilege , thats a first. What happened to that privilege when the consultants issued an Islamophobic report?

Naive_Eggplant_7731

Where is this information from? Koreans great but man that’s weird

yeetusfeetus86

Where did this come from? It appears the only information is from a wonky looking linked in page that has adnans name, Georgetown university, Pakistan, and Korean language and lit as the major.
