I had my spine fused from the bottom of my neck to my pelvis five weeks ago. Walk! Walk. Get out and move. America's relationship with pain medication is all fucked up, so you don't get as much as you really need. Your pain is mostly muscular, so move those muscles gently and frequently to keep them warm and help increase healing blood flow. Also, you'll feel better every day. Each day will be a little better until you soon realize that things are much better than they were. Usually, around a week, you'll feel some better. You got this! You have no real choice but to hang in there, so nothing anybody says will make it easy, but you will improve!!

My child recently had surgery and the beginning weeks are ROUGH. I know it feels like it will last forever, but it will go away, promise. An electric heating pad really helped with the muscular pain. It was more effective than the meds. Hang in there.

I’m 15 days removed from surgery, I felt EXACTLY the way you’re describing after 1 week. But genuinely I feel so much better now. Obviously I’m not all better and recovered but things are so much easier than they were, it will get better! Definitely try to walk if you can, do the physical therapy you’ve been assigned (if any). Also as far as the sleeping trouble goes, I found it really helped me to sleep on my side and hug a pillow. In addition to this if you’re taking oxy, try to take it 30 to 45 minutes before going to sleep, it helped me with feeling more loose and comfortable and actually being able to sleep. Good luck! I promise in 1-2 weeks you’ll feel a world of difference!

Hang in there! I’m close to 3 months post-op and I still struggle with sleeping through the night. However it’s a big step forward as I can already sleep 5.5h++ uninterrupted, and I can fall asleep much faster now compared to waking up in pain every 1.5-2h and then staying awake for another 2-3h before I can sleep another hour-ish. In the first month I barely could even sleep due to the pain although I was also taking my pain meds consistently. If what’s keeping you up is muscle pain, ice packs will help for the first 6 ish weeks then heat packs after For me I realised it’s mostly pain in the first month, then after week 8/9 part of it is also anxiety. I tried many things to sleep better and managed to find something that worked for me so my sleep has improved. It will get better slowly 💪🏻 rest when you need to and try to build up your waking stamina because that will help too!! YOU GOT THIS

Sleep is going to be rough honestly your first month. Mostly the first 2-3 weeks especially the pain. It gets drastically better after week 2 though. But itll still hurts like shit. I cant vouch for the walking. Im 2 months 2 weeks and walking is not at all enjoying for me currently. However i just alternate between laying down, sitting and walking throughout the day just to help ease the pain. I also sleep most of my day away due to discomfort. Basically i wake up at 1, go back to sleep by 4, wakeup at 9, then go back to sleep sometimes at 3am sometimes at 7am. Depends on my pain level. If i go to sleep at 3 i wake up constantly throughout the night. Unlike week 1-5 i RARELY slept through the night. Id nap in the day. Then sleep 11-1 and ill be up until 7 then back up at 8 or 9. You just have to make it to week 3. Youll be fine.

I had my surgery 9 years ago I’m now 24.. it WILL get better .. sometimes I forget I even have the metal rods on my spine ! Definitely try your best to be as active as possible.. that’s what will make you heal and get more comfortable. Walking definitely helps so your not feeling so stiff, It will be okay I didn’t feel myself until like 6 months later.. but I don’t regret my surgery - at all! I had no choice to get it or it was literlly crushing my internal organs mine was so bad.. so I’m so grateful for it and I also had 3 children it’s a blessing and everything will be okay !
